    Thanks for sharing, John. Over the years, your videos ring true with humility, frugality and down home good sense. You are awesome, Dude. And an inspiration for those of us going through adversity, which we all do at one time or another. That's why we're all just common folk when you get right down to it. Thank you. Love to the kids, Martha and especially Lupita.

    Thanks, Great Vid. I've been making that for 50 years but never knew about the sugar and lemon. Used to catch white bass on Lake Winnebago in Wisconsin. Clean and then into a coffee can of boiling water and a bay leaf over a campfire. Drain the water off and right into the melted butter to gobble up. Yummy Thanks also for the tip about Ricky Wallace. Got one of the fleshing knives from him. Going to make gar sheath Lord willing this spring. Dave

    I'm a LOBSTER LOVER and I just made this using cod fish. Not to be a wet blanket but honestly this doesnt taste like lobster. It's good mind you. I made it with schezuan spicy fragrant rice. They complimented each other. The lightness of the fish dipped in lemon butter and the spiciness of the rice was yummy. But...Naw. Doing some research I've read other fish you can use for this recipe so I'm going to try it again using either
    *Monkfish. *Cod
    * Halibut. *Bass
    *Haddock
    (Although never heard of Monkfish)
    Btw I do enjoy your recipes. Thank you.

    This is very easy to make and that is the good thing about it. If you are having someone over for dinner and want to do a lobster dish without the expense, this is a great way to do a nice upscale dinner for two.

    That's what I like about you. Down to earth, A county boy can survive!
    We do something like that but use bluegill. once its boiled we chill it with ice and then dip each piece in shrimp sauce.
    Gottta put your safety glasses on to keep from poking your eye out with the fork.
    God Bless you brother. Sure do enjoy your videos.

    I can tell ya...it’s the sugar to sweeten it and the lemon makes it pucker and causes it to become a sweet lobsterish Nugget! Hahahaha IDK! I’m teasing. I just get such a tickle out of your explanations I had to be a “dudetteologist” Just once! It’s precisely your attitude and way of thinking that keeps bringing me back. I appreciate your honesty, your “git ‘er done” and make no apologies for it attitude! Wish more folks thought like you John! TFS...definitely will try...God Bless ~Lisa

    As a person who is deathly allergic to seafood which developed in my 20s this may be a godsend! I loved seafood so much and ate it all the time.. then all of a sudden It nearly killed me. I have missed it so much but I also love life! hahaha I'm trying this as soon as I can get to our fishery to buy some white fish. :-) Thank You!

    • @MaureenKo1
      @MaureenKo1 6 років тому +1

      krista, same with my mom. After years of eating everything, she suddenly became horribly ill to seafood of any kind. Even tiny bits of oyster sauce or fish broth. She underwent sublingual drops with an allergist and overcame this allergy after about 2 years. She had to take weekly exposures but finally built up a tolerance for it. She never acquired a taste for seafood to that great extent but was able to eat pretty much everything after that. Some hope out there if you're willing to go through the trouble.

    Thanks, I appreciate your enthused attitude. Please consider providing a simple list of ingredients & methods.
    For example:
    One Guy's Poor Man's Lobster
    Cod or Halibut
    1/2 Lemon
    1/4 cup salt
    1 cup sugar
    lemon pepper, melted butter
    1. Fill a large pot about 1/2 to 3/4 full of water and bring to a boil.
    2. Add in half a lemon, cut into 2 pieces and the sugar. Stir until the sugar dissolves.
    Allow the mixture to come back to a boil for a couple minutes.
    3. Cut the fish into about lobster like chunks and add to the boiling water. Do not stir!
    4. When the fish begin bobbing and float to the top, strain them out and set on a paper towel or wire rack.
    5. Sprinkle with lemon, lemon pepper and/or dill seed (optional). Dip in butter- serve warm.
    Bye

    Hi! I did use lemon juice from a bottle - it works too, but isnt as good to put over it after it is cooked. I put a bit in the butter i dipped it in...yummo! It works, but a real lemon is always better. Good viddy, it is making me want to try it on other kinds of fish.

    Just an FYI: The acid in the lemon coagulates the protein in the fish and firms it up. Truth be told, vinegar will do the same thing but it won't taste as good as the lemon does. In many Middle Eastern dishes, salt and lemon is used in place of vinegar because it tastes a lot better.
