    It’s not the being-cooked-alive part that bothers me. I think it’s that it seems so slow, and thus the potential suffering is increased. Throwing something into a pot of boiling water seems less cruel because the pain lasts seconds, not minutes like here. I love scallops and lobster, so I’m not here to say people shouldn’t eat these things. Just like how I eat chicken but would prefer for it to not be tortured while it’s alive. I still want to eat meat but I think we should strive for pain/suffering reduction as much as possible. Obviously it’s harder to do that with some things (e.g., foie gras).

    • @DeletedChannell
      @DeletedChannell 3 роки тому +4

      Of these creatures have to be cooked alive they cannot be cooked if they're dead most people either steam the scallops or they already kill him and throw him in refrigerators but that's not fresh enough you got to be careful scallops are a ticking Time bomb once they're dead that's why it's better to cook them when they are alive that way is more fresh and safe to eat

    • @simplicitylost

    Mussels are typically cooked alive to ensure freshness and safety. If they are dead before cooking, they can pose a health risk due to potential bacterial contamination. Therefore, whether mussels are boiled, grilled, or fried, they are usually alive at the start of the cooking process. While boiling them in water may mask the process of their death and might be quicker than grilling, the fundamental fact remains the same.

      @giandomenicosirgiovanni6397 3 роки тому +17

      @@thiagopagot9981 oh, you're vegan! Then it's a whole different conversation. You're only allowed the choice to live ""cruelty-free"" (in appearance) because of the way humans have profited nature to progress. You can only choose to be vegan because you live in a comfortable society, a developed country and you've been lucky enough not to live in poverty or war. So virtue-signal my ass and don't be an hypocrite, cause you're only able to perform your online activism, "sitting your ass in an air conditioned house", because trees have been cut, soil excavated and animals killed or deprived of resources (i.e. killed).
      All animals live at other animals and environment expense, there's no difference between us and them from this point of view: you're just fooling yourself into believing you can live with zero impact on the ecosystem just because you can go to the bio aisle of a supermarket. Eating animals for humans is indeed natural and needed for our health.
      When our impact on environment becomes not sustainable anymore, then here's a problem and I agree.
      But emotions are not an argument: animals don't feel pain the way we do and they don't kill just in order to survive (they do also for females, territory or plain sadism).
      Morals (to which is connected the concept of "cruel/cruelty") are a human elaboration, non-existent in nature: it's a sociocultural construct, varying depending on times and places (so you can see it's not absolute, metaphysic).
      Y'all be demonising specism when it comes to state "all lives are the same", yet the most specist argument is yours, since we're the ones supposed not to act according to our nature.
      Stop humanising them like we're in a fucking Disney cartoon, study a little bit of ethology and grow the fuck up.
      I won't reply further. You sure have the moral high ground here, so I won't bother replying either if I were you. Just make yourself an applause and fuck off👏🏻

      @thiagopagot9981 3 роки тому +10

      @@giandomenicosirgiovanni6397 the fact that you need to use irony and swear at me only shows you might be feeling guilty or something. Anyway, let me go over some of the misconceptions you brought here.
      I never said I lived a cuelty-free life, because that´s impossible. Even the definition of veganism clearly states it should be done "as far as possible and practicable". But we can both agree sitting in a restaurant and watching animals squirm as they get burnt to death could classify as a form of avoidable animal cruelty, can´t we?
      And yes, you are totally right when you say I can only worry about these things in life because I live comfortably. I am rich, I live in a comfortable home, although in a developing country. And the richer you are, the more responsibility towards the world you should have. That is why I worry about these things. I don´t expect someone fighting daily for their bread to take time worrying about animal cruelty, or the environment. They´re barely getting by. But I´m not.
      And once again, I never said I lived with zero impact. Please, don´t go so low as to make stuff up that I did not say. That´s just cheap.
      "Animals dont´t feel pain the way we do". Prove it. They have a central nervous system, much like ours. They act the same way when they get hurt. You say that just to feel better about eating them.
      "Morals are a human elaboration". Yes, they are. That is why I´m criticizing the crulety imposed by humans towards animals. I don´t criticize a lion eating a zebra. What´s your point? You got a little lost there.
      "Eating animals is natural and needed for our health". Killing other human beings is natural too, does that make it moral?
      And no, eating animals is NOT needed for our health. You can get the same nutrients elsewhere.
      Same old arguments from meat-eaters. Why is it so hard to just admit that you eat them because you like how they taste? That would be an honest answer, instead of making up all this crap.

      Has to be 25 years old. Earliest R34 was Jan 1999 so that makes it Jan 2024. Sad harsh reality but that's the way it is. There are some exceptions which are rare museum pieces that can come in under the 25 years but restricted to limited annual mileage and other garbage. They just need to re-release the R32, R33, R34 so we can finally have it without the headaches and ridiculous price.

      @@MrSplupa USA EPA exempts at 21 years. USA DOT and FMVSS require 25 years to be exempt. Canada it's 15. Anyone bringing them in or selling them before the car itself is 25 years old to the manufacturing month date is risking grey bar hotel, car getting crushed and a $100,000 fine. About 15 are legal because they're Motorex exempt and they are in collections. Only other way is like I said special museum pieces and those are restricted in usage on the streets.

    Ocean life is harsh. After seeing a seal swim around half eaten by a shark, I 100% accepted it is what it is in the sea. And anywhere else. We all consume something alive to stay alive. Whether it's in one painless bite or several horrible ones. Whether heat is applied or some type of excruciating paralyzing venom. I understand it hurts to feel empathy for anything that's being eaten, but very few people, animals, or plants experience an entirely painless existence. We all get consumed eventually by something. The food chain was not designed with empathy in mind. It is purely the transfer of nutrients from one entity to the next. We will all suffer. We will all feel pain when we die. Except the smaller percentage that passes away in their sleep or overdoses on a false-sense-of-happy drug.
