    BTW, jumbo prawns have a texture and an oh-so-sweet flavor more closely resembling a lobster tail. And if you saute a jumbo shrimp in lobster bisque then slit it down the center lengthwise along the mud vein channel, and give it a minute or two beneath the broiler slathered in melted butter, and then finally sprinkle it with a few squeezes of fresh lemon juice you will be hard-pressed to tell the difference.

    Don’t know why there are so many videos of poor man’s lobster using cod. You are lying to yourself if you are saying it tastes just like lobster. Lol. The texture is totally different and the cod still will flake. Follow the same cooking method, and use monkfish!!! Thats the best fish to use! Texture is exactly the same as lobster. And of course cooking with the lemon, sugar, salt etc., mimicks the taste of the lobster. Please try monkfish if you haven’t already. :-)

    • @C3BFA
      @C3BFA  3 роки тому +4

      We don't catch monkfish here so thought give it a go with cod it's something different yes the texture is softer. But it definitely has a hint of the same taste as lobster.

    • @philiple8890

      Ok yeah, I guess Monkfish is an Atlantic fish. Yeah if you ever get the chance on Monkfish if they sell it anywhere, try it. But thats awesome that you cook what you catch :-) Yes, exactly . . Because of the cooking method it has a hint of Lobster taste. Cooking the cod the way you did, is still delicious. But I just tried with monkfish recently with same cooking process for the similiar taste, but the monkfish texture was right on the money! Thanks for the video! :-)

    Tried this recipe last night with fresh cod. Nice way to cook firm white fish, but hardly "lobster"! Yes, you get perfectly cooked fish with a nice texture. Sure, it's one way to sort of get more flavor into white fish (many of which don't have strong flavors of their own). This and dozens of similar recipes abound on YT under "poor man's lobster". Nice fish, poor lobster substitute, IMHO. YMMV, of course.

    I just wished you didn't have to put so much sugar in the water. That would create a problem for diabetics or keto people who normally could eat cod cooked most any way. What is the purpose of using the sugar.?

    • @C3BFA
      @C3BFA  3 роки тому +2

      That is very true. I'm really not sure what the purpose is of the sugar, it's part of the recipe I have a followed. I suppose it could be made without and see if it works and tastes ok.
      I have thought about cooking the fish in a normal way i.e oven or grill, then soaking it in the butter.
      The sugar is to probably add sweetness to the fish replicating the lobster taste as it has a slightly sweet taste. I can't imagine it helps to hold the fish chunks together, so it is worth trying without the sugar.

    Seriously? Isn't shrimp the REAL poor man's lobster? They are both crustaceans too. This recipe is just poached cod, a fish, but it sounds better giving it a fancy name, I guess. Poached cod is tasty, I agree, but it doesn't really taste anything like lobster nor does it have the texture of lobster, not even the claws. It's the butter and lemon that add to the illusion I suppose. I have eaten my weight in lobster tails over the years. My favorite Sushi restaurant had it on the side menu every Friday for an extra $5 until 2020. Not recently since the price of lobster has nearly tripled since COVID. But, large prawns and cod are still a relatively good buy and they're priced the same per pound where I buy my seafood ($8.99). So, why settle for cod when you can have the next best thing to lobster, its cousin the prawn!??!

    • @C3BFA
      @C3BFA  3 роки тому

      I could this cod I didn't buy it so wanted to try something new instead of the traditional UK dish battered Cod and chips.
      I'm not sure what the original poor man's lobster dish is but thought I would try it. It tastes amazing and does have a hint of lobster taste it's odd maybe its the sugar I dont know
