Wow! I'm blown away to see that people are still discovering and enjoying our music nearly 40 years later. Very gratifying. Thanks to Prog Line for keeping the music alive and to everyone for all the wonderful comments. - Steve Parker (bass & vocals, 1974-1980)
Glad to hear from you ! There are many true music fans of this genre who just cant get enough !
+Edouard De Callagan Yes, it's really me. I can't think why anyone would want to impersonate me!
High praise indeed. Thank you, sir! I will relay your comments to the other musicians. I"m certain they'll be as surprised and humbled as I was to read them.
So kind of you to mention my bass lines. All were played on a stock 1973 Fender Jazz bass through a Sunn Concert Bass amp with the signal split to also run a direct line into the mixing board. I was part of the group when all of these songs were recorded but I only appear on tracks 1,3,4,5,6,7,8, and 11; the other 4 songs don't have bass or vocals. For a more detailed reference, as to who played what, click on the "show more" link below the video window.
Thanks again!
The players in Hands came from varied musical backgrounds in classical, jazz and rock, so quite naturally those styles influenced our compositions. Some critics have said that's why we weren't more popular - our style was too varied - but that variety was what appealed to me as a player.
We were inspired by the progressive giants of the era - King Crimson, Gentle Giant, Yes, Jethro Tull, Frank Zappa, to name but a few - but we worked hard to create our own sound within the genre rather than just emulate those bands. I like to think we succeeded to a large degree.
The members of Hands are deeply appreciative of your support for our music. Thank you for sharing it with others.
p.s. I think your English is quite good!
Dude your bass lines are epic! i absolutely love this album, thank you.
Had a dream this album was on sale on vinyl at a local shop for $1.25 but I didn't have any money on me and all the coins I could rummage in my pockets were from other countries.
What no credit card?
@@thomasmazur6916 Becouse he probably had a nightmare instead just a dream.
My life is genuinely enriched from this music. Thanks to Hands, and thanks to Prog Line for exposing me to them!
Hi, this is John Rousseau (drummer) Thank you for that wonderful comment - So glad to know our music still affects people all over the world - Blessings to you!
@@fullcircleenterprises3059 How it was to make music at that time?? thanks for allowing us to listen to this for free, this album started playing the other day while i was high on weed haha and it was an amazing trip, I heard it sober today again and it was great again, thanks from Argentina!
@@fullcircleenterprises3059 This record is Seriously Awesome!!!!
@@fullcircleenterprises3059 Thanks from Russia. I adore such kind of music. Very cool....
@@fullcircleenterprises3059 WHERE Y'ALL FROM.
NICE DRUMS THERE.
This album is a masterpiece. How has this eluded my attention until now?
¿Maybe because it wasn´t EVER released?¡Hahahaha! (I mean it. I learned that this was never put out neither in LP format at its time, nor in CD format afterwards. I believe the only source is a cassette!!)
@@apataye9148 If you look up on Discogs. It has been released on CD (1996). A few for sale ($30 and up). : - ) Cheers!
Don't worry Mr ! It's in human's nature to keep discovering things until the end :)
To which there is none.. 😁
Michael Salisbury you must be a genius!!!!
My friends are always amazed at my knowledge of music from mid-60s to mid-70s. Stumbling upon Hands is humbling in the best way imaginable. Incredible musicianship and song construction! I read many that connected Hands to Tull and Gentle Giant. I won't disagree, but it's still fresh.
such original melody, so far ahead of your time. the flute is understated and more pleasant than tull.. wish there was more hands music, you shoulda been huge, kansas huge. thanks for this much, and not a note was wasted, and no guitar noodles!. move over, shulmans, hands down my favorite new find..and here i thought that first wave prog was crushed by the synth-pop eighties, the distraction of grunge and metal...this album is superb, front back and sideways, w5
Thank you for the very gracious comments! It's gratifying to know that our music still finds new ears decades after it was made. - Steve Parker, bass & vocals 1974-1980.
Wow....i really really love this!!
To many 'Progrock'bands/artists from the US in the seventies sounded many times as the brittish counterparts like you know....Yes, Genesis etc....without an own identity. But this is just fantastic and it sounds like no other. Amazing!
Bro that first track got me creating imaginary victorian-steampunk worlds on the moon and shiz holy moly I dig it :O
The Lonely Rocker digs this kinda music!
This could easily be in the top 20 prog albums of all time. NO JOKE.
A beautiful and enjoyable album from the best music era (IMHO). Time to time I am discovering new gems from the 70s and I love almost any single bits of music I am particularly bound to. That's my inspiring music style. Bravi
great sounds - missed it earlier! now 72 years old enjoying for first time, many thanks.!
Antarctica is my favorite song from this album. It is like a story with many changes on the way..
Triangle of a New Flight and Mindgrind are also exceptional songs. The whole album is a MASTERPIECE !
I've been listening to this album for years, and every listen re-enchants me, and re-affirms my love for the magic of Hands.
What amazes me though is how through Prog Line's upload a "bridge" was formed between the members of Hands, and everyone who discovers and loves this album as I do.
It allows us to finally show our appreciation to the well-deserving authors of this work, and even get insight on it in return!
This might be a pipe dream for now, but I'd love to see a new, high-quality release of this album.
There's even this Japanese label called Belle Antique, that re-issues old and new prog both via importing releases and creating their own in a CD-sized LP sleeve style, I believe that they distributed the very first Hands CD release back in the 90's.
wow, probably one of the best and purest prog albums i have listened to so far
This might be the best prog album I heard so far
Yes a real gem that has floated to the top many years after it was recorded. One of the most satisfying prog rock recordings by any band outside the known first division of prog. At least on a par with the very finest examples of the period like Acquiring the taste, Close to the edge and Trespass.
I created a petition for the LP reissue of this album. There is a good chance for the album to be released on vinyl if it meets popular demand. So if you are interested in owning this LP, take a minute to sign this.
www.change.org/p/the-band-hands-album-hands-to-be-remastered-and-released-on-vinyl-form
Very nice, never heard of them but the Tull, Kansas and G. Giant influences are strong which is always a good thing!
You said it. Totally agree.

Hands - Dreamsearch is A FUCKING MASTERPIECE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Been listening to this album ever since it was uploaded by Prog Line and it never gets old. You guys are an amazing band. 27 years old, there’s a few in the younger crowd that love this stuff.
One the best albums I've ever heard.
All these bands that were before they're time, the time has come,,,timeless!
One of the top 10 albuns ever (super underestimated). I always listen to this one and it's a new surprise everytime. Tecnical, criativity, versatile, etc.
The late 70s was a hard time for any progressive rock band, but especially hard in the US because many of them came after the more popular phase of prog from the late 60s through mid 70s. But this Hands album is FANTASTIC, and it's a shame it wasn't picked up by a healthy label and given some real promotion. They have all the chops and songwriting skills of the best the 70s had to offer. I'm just glad I found out about them, even if it was late in the game. THANK YOU HANDS.
Thank you for the kind words. It's nice to know there are those (with good taste, such as yourself!) who are still finding this album and enjoying it - John Rousseau (drums & percussion)
@@lawamba My pleasure John. I heard this album many years ago but don't know why it didn't grab hold. My tastes have expanded so maybe that's it. A lot of the USA prog from the 70s doesn't do much for me, but Hands is quality music! A little HTM or GG influence. I need to track this down.
A truly incredible album
I grew up in the 60s and 70s and loved and bought tons of prog albums however this one slipped under the radar for me. I'm liking it. Thumbs up.
Just when u think u know all the top tier prog the universe reveals another album to take u off ur high horse. This is really incredible - the greatest prog doesn't resemble the stuff u know (too much) it's just another completely unusual and unique thing of true art and beauty.
Hi Ezra. Thank you for the very generous compliment. I will share it with the other members. Pleased to know our music touched your life. Best wishes for a peaceful and prosperous 2021. - Steve Parker
@@steveparker1804 A true pleasure to hear this from u - u have my thanks - I have been listening intently and enjoying thoroughly - It is a stunning work. If I can compose music of even a fraction of this callabur I will be content.
Never heard. Amazing; dig it a lot. So prog! What a great pick!
Greetings from Brazil!
I got this album in the 1990's...
I asked the universe once in the early 1980's that Prog would come back with so much quality musicians and bands that I couldn't keep up!
Well starting in the 1990's I have experienced that granted wish for 30 years now!
F.A.N.T.A.S.T.I.C.!!!! Congratulations, Prog Line is a Genius, very thanks.
Wow, just discovering this in 2022. How did I miss this gem? Epic.
Hands is a brand new discovery to me. And what a discovery - WOUW!!!!
I fully understand the effort that went into the compsitions. MUST have taken some time getting all the pieces together right...
It's just SO sad that you guys never made it big - imho you are up among the big ones like... well you know who I mean.
I've sent this YT-link to all my Prog-loving friends.
Good work guys (and keep it up, And get back together and make some more of this wonderful music)
...Right! Hi, this is John Rousseau (drummer/percussionist) Blessings to you & thank you for the rich compliment!
Now this is my kind of music, man.
Now I know what Shpongle has been listening to.
Muito bom mesmo
Very good
Fantastic
King Crinson influence
Awesome. I LOVE the violin
Great stuff! Can't believe I wasn't familiar with these folks before now. Very nice discovery. Thanks for posting.
My best friend played this for me last week...instant fan. I never heard this back then, as with so many other wonderful discoveries I've made on here, but so glad I can hear it now.
THIS SLAPS. WHAT THE ACTUAL HECK
this work has everything what prog needs: GG, VDGG and some Canterbury - mesmerizing, maybe 1977 has been to late? cheers from germany!
💣😍⁉️ IF WE WHERE ABLE TO PRODUCE THIS CALIBER MUSIC
BACK IN THE 60's 70's ......WHAT HAPPENED IN THE 21st Century???.....🤔 am just scratchin me head!!!
😍🙏🏻THANKS for PUT IT UP🙏🏻😍
the illuminati took over the music biz and gave us dummed down music 4 people with a short attention span they want us all dum so we cant figure out there agenda to kill us off /enslave us futher read the illuminati insider book or listen to david icke /leak project /robert stanley n his online mag .the illuminati book says they came from heaven (space) to earth to destroy mankind after using us as slaves. they already changed our dna from 12 strands to 3 to take our power and leave us with junk dna God doesnt make useless dna!
Hello Mr. Parker, i just discovered this album and it is a masterpiece. When i search for "new" music, so many album i stop listening after a few tracks because it's boring. But this one already after the first song i knew i found something special! Thanks for this great work of art!
Just ordered the CD now...
I’m very much enjoying my first listen through this. It’s got lots of surprises. And it seems to have been pretty well recorded. I think I could listen to this many times over and continue to find new things to appreciate.
I love it! I never heard of this progressive rock band before. They remind me a little of Harmonium from Quebec, Canada. Thanks for posting this.
Hi Milton, this is John Rousseau (drummer/percussionist) Thank you for that wonderful comment - So glad to know our music still affects people after all this time - Blessings to you!
Thank you for the comments - the original Hands drummer/percussionist (on this album)
d'accordissimo. Ci sento anche un po' di PFM. Per la precisione, gli Hands sono texani.
Man! why am I just now finding this? I was in Jr high when this came out and I would have totally been into this. a year later Billy Cobham came to our drum corps practice and was blown away by Scott Johnson's snare solo.
Thanks again youtube suggestions. Different sound. Pleasing to the ear.
Several years later, some of these guys formed the elements and played around Dallas Texas. I remember seeing them at a club called Tango and they introduced themselves as a band from Farmers Branch Texas where I currently reside with my 1979 Ludwig stainless steel smoke and Fire drum set
I wonder if they were from Denton TX. North Texas State has a great jazz program in Denton.
reminds one, happily, of Anglagard
Thank you Prog Line for Yezda Urfa, Bubu, Cathedral and so many more!
Finally listening to this one, it sounds awesome.
It's hard to pick a favorite track because they're all so good 🙂
Love this album, it really grows on you the more you listen.
The Japanese composers for the 16-bit era of classic RPGs were clearly raised on a steady diet of 70s Prog!
Nobuo Uematsu is a prime example of this.
@@somejock4396 100%
When I was a child (2001) I played "Legend Of Dragoon" on PS1. I love that JRPG game and I found the soundtrack very powerful, rock and strange. When I started to listening to Prog I thought: "WOW! The JRPG songs sound like this Progressive Rock!". An amazing discovery later in time.
@@somejock4396 I'm totally sure he's a big Keith Emerson fan
Wonderful. I loved and love this stuff.
Uma das melhores obras do rock progressivo!!!!!
First time i heard this awesome.album brilliant i have no words
Thank you! We continue to be amazed and delighted that our music is finding new ears 40+ years after it was made. - Steve Parker
this underrated album is one of the best sympho-rock albums of the era. it stands at the top together with the albums like Close to the Edge and / or Selling England by the Pound.
Long-time prog fan, and first-time Hands listener right now. I'm blown away! Classic prog, in the absolute best sense. The sound quality and musicianship are nigh immaculate.
Wow.... I really really enjoy this music!! Simply amazing! Brilliant!
Thanks Russell, it's great to know there are people still getting enjoyment from this music, that I still hold so dear in my heart. It may interest you to know that Ernie Myers (guitar, vocals), Mike Clay (keyboards/guitar) and myself (drums, percussion) were just in the studio a few months back recording some new material, which will be released hopefully sometime later this year. All the best, John Rousseau
One year later and this album gets better and better like a fine wine!!! Kick ass musicians as well! Peace Donny Ringo
as a prog fan that has not heard this... thank you!!!! been a fan of prog since 77.
It's like Kansas and King Crimson meet Zappa!! Incredible!
Agreed! Definitely hear Kansas with violin and hard rock guitar tone.
This is simply an amazing album..front to back basically.
Gracias por tantas publicaciones fantasticas..sigue asi!!.
Excellent in any case; but, it does remind one of Happy-The-Man...with a touch of Genesis in the NurseryCryme era...with a pinch of classic Kansas. Tasty!
I liked this very much, a new discovery for me ,very accomplished.
Looks like they got about 14 guys in this band! That is about 28 hands! Got to HAND it to them!
They have a brand new album coming soon. From what I have heard it stands to be one of their greatest works, up there with this one.
Sounds like Kansas at times; first time hearing this band and I like what I hear.
Yeah, I heard that Kansas influence myself! Also, I hear a heavy dose of Camel, & maybe a dash of Klaatu as well?
They are on their own terrain, influenca are normal, i think they are very original and i like when The sound slips into more aggresive dinamic even funky at times
I was born in 1973, today, is, April 30th, 2024... better late than never, as they say!
nice music!
Amazing stuff...I missed this one in the midst of the punk (and Eurodisco...) revolution. Reminds me a wee bit of Kaipa and Isildurs Bane from Sweden...and Kansas. Yet original and fresh to this day.
/J, Sweden...
thank you prog Line from France
(dmetl) #264 - some of the cutest music I've ever heard ... especially like the classical horns n woodwind instruments
you have touched me thank you
Never heard of this nice band before. Thumbs up.
Maravilloso, una joya, gracias por poder disfrutarlo
Tell you what; this is a tight band!...A bit of Giant, A bit of Camel, A bit of Renaissance...You can't wrong with those sounds...
Sentí de todo. Gracias por esta joya.

Hermoso! Gracias!
Simplesmente maravilhoso! Um dos melhores discos que já ouvi.
I used to listen to this back in the 90's. I was at ProgScape in Baltimore and a vendor highly recommended it. A true gem from the seventies.
Matthew Pumphrey Whats prog scape?
@@Cymatic18 Progscape was a prog rock music festival in the nineties. They were held at Towson State University. Baltimore had a lot of support for the prog revival of the nineties. Thanks to Chris Lamka and Mike Potter.
Matthew Pumphrey Thats awesome to know. I’m a hip-hop Producer and I mostly sample prog rock. This album in particular is INCREDIBLE.
I'm kinda scared right now. I had a dream that indirectly brought me here. The name of a band was all I could remember upon waking, so i looked it up and now I'm here. I've never heard this before and it is very far from what i usually listen to. I dig the tunes but I'm kinda freaked out too.
This album called you here. Listen to it, isn't it magical? I usually don't believe in magic, but music and this album in particular are magical, so what can I know.
It's not a dream - they still walk amongst us! (Hands drummer/percussionist) Thank you for your comments.
Just found this. Brilliant!
This album in side my collection forever!!!!!...........................
there was something in the water of the 70´s. Best decade for music. Except for Beatles, the best group - but of the 60s, all the other great music is of the 70s
Beatles was more 60s.
Simplemente excelente!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Awesome sounds!
Damn! what a great album ! Never heard about it or any of the artists..
