Really excellent, thanks.
#lavender is marvellous! The first one I've really paid attention to. Somehow it is in my queue with all the Skyhooks songs.

Back in 1987 I almost died in a motorcycle accident. I was 17 then and a frind of mine gave me a copy of this album (it was a tdk cassette copy). I listened to it almost every day during the five months it took me to recover. I learnt the lyrics by hard, I used to sing them aloud with tears in my eyes and a smile in my face. I feel exactly the same now every time I play it again. Greetings from Argentina.
Greetings Argentina!!

Thank you 80s for giving us this music
I still remember seeing Marillion at Wembley Arena - sublimely brilliant gig. And Fish said: “The bad news is we’ve only got one song left.” Crowd: boos. “The good news is, it’s Misplaced Childhood.” Crowd: ecstasy… The whole album, live, in a single hit. Just amazing.

I called 1 of my daughters kayleigh after the song. Sadly I lost my gorgeous daughter aged 15 God rest her little soul. Can't listen to that song anymore without crying for her .such a great song as well.
I AM SAD FOR YOU GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR DAUGHTER
Stay strong and Shine on! You deserve to feel good
My support and thoughts are with you from one mother of an angle to another ❤😢
So Sorry, bless you.
After hearing this song, I too, named my youngest daughter, Kayleigh. I saw Marillion a few months before she was born. For months, my wife and I listened to this song nearly every day before she was born. After already having had five children, Kayleigh was to be the last child we would have. She was an absolute joy. A perfect, beautiful baby. At the time, I was taking night classes in International Business Administration to finish my BS degree at the University of _ _. Three months after her birth, while I was in class, someone from the office came and said I had an important phone call from one of my neighbors. I was told by this neighbor to get to the hospital as quickly as possible without telling me why. Upon arriving at the hospital, I found that Kayleigh had passed away due to SIDS (sudden infant death syndrome). The grief and loss my family experienced still exists today. To anyone who reads this ... LOVE your children, spouse, family, and friends. You never know when someone you love is taken away. Forgive petty squabbling, serve each other, be kind and considerate, and live for others. That's all I have to say. Peace, Blessings, and Grace
To everyone who has left a positive comment about this masterpiece of musical brilliance, to every soul this album has touched, you all have something very special about you. It's 2020 and this album is an absolute CLASSIC and a stark reminder of what REAL music should sound like... Peace & Love!

Marillion ,pink floyd, dire straits, etc the list is long.
Great to hear ,that so many people feel the same.
Nice one merry 😊
I’ve posted this before but most people cite Morrissey as the greatest lyricist of the 80s .I personally feel Fish is the standout wordsmith of that era.
In terms of progressive rock bands, I think that Fish took over that responsibility once Roger Waters left Pink Floyd. Although there are some similarities with Genesis in parts, to say that Marillion were derivative of Genesis is just lazy journalism. Genesis never produced anything as powerful as Misplaced Childhood or Clutching At Straws. Steve Rothery is a real rock fan's guitarist and Fish inherited Water's crown.
Bob dylan is my go to .but yes fish and morrisey deserve a place in lyrics also pink floyd..
@@PAC-fp9hyThe Musical Box, Supper's Ready, Fifth of Fifth, The Cinema Show, Carpet Crawlers, Ripples and Dance on a Volcano/Los Endos are pretty powerful and intense.
No way
@@PAC-fp9hyAs an early fan of both Genesis and Pink Floyd (I'm 59), I love unconditionally Misplaced Childhood and Script for a Jester's Tear and the great scottish poet Fish. Honestly, I find more Genesis than Pink Floyd in this music. Yet, I wouldn't say that Marillion are more powerful than Genesis, simply because it can't be true (all tracks in Trespass, Nursery Crime, Foxtrot, Selling England by the Pound, The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway, and some of the following songs), are timeless classic of unbelievably high skill and power under any profile.
I was in the U.S. Air Force in 1985, and was stationed in England. That summer I went to the Monsters of Rock concert in Donnington Castle. I watched ZZ Top, and Marillion, and many other groups that day. This brings back such great memories.
AF rocks. A witness of history

Sadly, Fish quit after their fourth album. He was getting into some nasty habits with nasty substances and simply couldn't hack it anymore.
@@FrozenHero2010 But there were some very good creations in his solo career. SHADOW PLAY to me is one of the strongest of them, and some more mentionable, for instance LUCKY, CLICHÉ and some more. Marillion was never the same since he went away, but, nevertheless, have some fine songs over the years. AFRAID OF SUNLIGHT was a very fine album and OCEAN CLOUD is one of the most impressive progrock pieces ever written.
If I may extend your horizon, listen to MOSTLY AUTUMN who were founded about a decade later than MARILLION. Pieces like WINTER MOUNTAIN, THE NIGHT SKY, THE GAP IS TOO WIDE or MOTHER NATURE will burn into your mind and never let you go again.

The 1970s and 80s were a wonderful time for albums and the economy made it very profitable to make the best albums for many bands. Now they have to tour to get the big money, and it does not produce the same kind of concepts.

It has been a long time since I listened to this one. Welcome back old friend, welcome back!
What a power this is …. Rooooots
The best Musik ....will never die becausethey Set a symboland Theywasfar ahed❤
Haven't listened to "old" Marillion in awhile and had almost forgotten how awesome this album is.
Jeremy Cox same here,its brilliant
I’ve only just discovered it after hearing a track on a vid haven’t stopped playing it for 2 days
Every time I play this album, I say to my self (and my wife) that this is the most beautiful album I own. This music brings you in a higher atmosphere.
Absolutly
Was born in 1986 but was brought up with this album and still love it to this day 🥰🏴
I just wanted to listen a few seconds... couldn‘t turn it off, I had to listen to the whole first half. I still know every single word, every note. There is no album in the world that meant more to me than this one. Even after 35 years...unbelievable!
I agree and for me it´s "only" 34 years...
I know what you mean.....just one song....and the rest! 🤩
Listened to Marillion for almost ten years in a row......Marillion,Marillion,Marillion.......all their albums were fantastic and the live was the best livealbum ever produced(normally l don't like live albums at all) Fish is a brilliant poet and a great person.....watch him now every friday on his channel "fish on friday"He tells about all his adventures...he speaks as good as he sings .Still a great performer....love him forever!
I had the same experience. It had to be 25 years since I last listened and then I played it and remembered every single word (even the French words!) and notes. For me it's my favorite album ever. I just wish I hadn't denied myself for 25 years.
This brought back memories when you could listen to a story through an album and hear all the words. Great stuff 👍👍👍😃
So freakin' powerful & BTW, did they borrow David Gilmore for this?
Being a child born of " meaningless collisions" I still want those times back even in my late 50's get nostalgic. And, starting college in '81 lived in a dorm named Lothian hall. Guess i acquired a heart of aforementioned...
Nobody asked but, 30 years ago I was playing in a band in México, we couldn´t resist the temptation to play Pseudo Silk Kimono-Kayleigh-Lavender, it used to be a great connection with all band members while playing this set.
A wonderful time of my life!!!! An important part of the soundtrack of my life!
I must be blessed with a 'good ear' having listened to Marillion from the beginning, Gabriel era Genesis and Rush in my teens in the Eighties.
I'm 64 and been listening to this kind of music all my life..Genesis, Floyd, Marillion..how lucky have we been ....
The guitar on this album is truly amazing. Brilliant from start to finish.
Rothery. Still great.
I would even say it's as close to a "perfect album" as you can get.
DEFINATELY !!
Rothery has one of THE cleanest guitar sounds on every album. His playing itself is poetry and precision at the finest.
I’ll have to think about this.
Just put your earphones on and listen to this magnificent album..
when it turns to lavender...that POWER, when it builds up. makes my cry. makes me think of my past. GREAT shit. just GREAT! i cry every time when it hits me :) anybody else like this?
The best album ever made.
Not really, it's just "an excellent addition to any progrock music collection" :)
"Pseudo Silk Kimono" and "Kayleigh" bring tears to my eyes.
Kimono and Lavender do the trick for me
it's Lavender for me... but also any other song on the first side
And don't forget 🔵Blue Angel🔵.....
Beyond Legendary!!! Kids - THIS IS REAL MUSIC!!!
This album was my gateway to Prog Rock, Prog Metal and soon all kinds of Rock and Metal. I'm nearly 19 now and this was only 3 years ago, but it changed my musical taste a lot to the positive. Thank you, Marillion!
I know, I know ... there are albuns like Pink Floyd "The Wall", Nirvana "Nevermind", Jimi Hendrix "Experience", The Mission "Carved in Sand", Concrete Blonde "Bloodletting", Rush "Presto", Lynyrd Skynyrd "Golden Platinum", etc. I love them all... You can also say the legendary albuns for the Rolling Stones, Beatles, Eagles, Clash, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Jethro Tull, Metallica, Dylan, Iron Maiden, U2, etc. etc. Gorgeous!!!!! however to me, personally speaking, THIS IS THE BEST ALBUM OF ALL TIME !!! I´ve listened these songs for 30 years and I can´t get tired of it. Peace!
amen

Rush's "Presto"? That's one of their worst. How about AFTK, Hemispheres, Permanent Waves or Moving Pictures?
no love for YES? Close to the edge is a blueprint for prog done right and proper
In my age mid 50th I can say Marillion for me is in my top 5 band ever. I do think you should add Pink Floyd wish you where here & Dark side of the moon ,Styx 'The Grand Illusion' & 'Paradise Theater.
Just discovered Marillion last night. I was going through boxes of my mom's old cassette tapes bc my Caddy only has a cassette player. I think I've fallen in love...
Oh how wonderful!!!!!!! You discovered a true treasure. Marillion is more than music. They are life inspiring, will help you get through tough times. I, also discovered them in 1986 just by chance. My first evening in college in Northern NY I was trying to find a radio station. Only one would come in and it was faint at best. CHOM FM in Montreal. Kayleigh was playing and I had to put on my headphones to get a clear sound. I was mesmerized immediately and ran around the dorm hall trying to find someone who knew who this band was. The next weekend we drove to Montreal and I bought my first Marillion album. No regrets ever since!!!!
@@TheDutchskipper oh that's an awesome story! Thanks so much for sharing!!! Now that I've gone through so much of Marillion's music, I can't believe they aren't more well-known. They've become one of my favorite bands 😆
@@HD-hh7db Here in the US they didn't sign on with a record label and in fact I believe they created their own. They are fan based funded. With that the radio stations don't play their music. They don't perform in the US anymore so we travel to Montreal to see their conventions......3 day conventions not concerts. What a blast!!
@@TheDutchskipper Dang, I suppose that explains it anyway. Wish they had concerts near me though haha!
@J J No, in American English the word we use is "mom"; "mum" is most common in British English. I'm sorry if I'm somehow misunderstanding you!
Sitting and listening to this album after a long while. Hit childhoods end and I find mysslf crying uncontrollably. Has been a week full of transformative decisions, of having realized I've allowed my childhood to be crushed and stolen for decades, and I finally let go and am looking anxiously at what might stand before me, hoping that I can discover that child that is still in there and find my direction. Those words just hit me in the gut like nothing else could...
To all cousins across the pond, thank you for bringing the world incredible music over the last 60 years.

I feel sorry for those who have never experienced the glory of this album.
I never heard about this group too, were they popular or rather prefered to remain out of the spotlight?
@@dandan9175 they've been around recording since the early 1980's. Great band.
It wasn't for the simple minded pop rockers...intelligent rock based from the poetry of life thought out
Ah, truer words hath never been spoken by mortals, my friend! I just found this site, yet have been a raging Marillion AND Fish fanatic since - while home on leave in 85?86? - 'Kayliegh' video came-up on MTV. I was HOOKED like a heroin addict - bought Misplaced that day - and within 3 months acquired every piece of vinyl they'd produced. I had a rough go in the service - okay... my entire life... and these blokes (all of them Fish, Steve, Aitch, Pete, Ian, Mark, Mick, Brian..I credit ALL of them) - all honesty, here - saved my life, more than once! My biggest regret in life (among many...) is, when they toured the States...last time w/ Fish (unbeknownst to us, at the time...), I was too much of a lush - missed them live w/Mr. Dick on the Misplaced Tour! Ahhh, but I HAVE seen Fish, once, live...and Marillion twice ( and, I gotta' give props, here...thanks to one those shows, I'm now also a big, big, big fanatic of Spock's Beard! Like Frosted Flakes, theyyy'rre GREEAAT! Aaaand...gotta say, here, Aitch ( & all of them) - at the last time I saw 'em live, blew me the fuck away... after about, maybe 5 or 6 songs...Mark's fingers began Pseudo Silk Kimono, & I thought, 'No way... that's Fish's'! grrr.' - BUT... Mister Hogarth won my soul that night. He put his heart & soul in it...and did the impossible...sang Misplaced like an angel...he OWNED it... I love Fish & I love Marillion. Period. And that's that. Thanks for letting me share!
@@dandan9175 They were big in Europe and also popular with metal fans.
Kayleigh was a radio hit.
