A beautiful desk makeover using a brand new colour!

- I'd been keeping this desk for something special and I didn't know what that was until I saw this brand new shade of Silk Mineral Paint from Dixie Belle Paint Company. There are 7 new colours being released in early 2024 and they're all named after National Parks so they're all rich earthy tones inspired by nature.

For me, I would’ve added a little bit of wax for shading & added a bit of gold gilding wax to the high points on the carvings…to me this piece just lends itself to those little extra embellishments…just a thought 💭 💭💭

Looks great! I’m curious why you added the big mommas butta to the stain for the inside? I dont know that I knew this was even possible. But I really like the result.

It just makes a tinted wax-stain so some properties of wax but with a stain added in. This way it just tints the colour of the wood but you don’t have the drying time of the No Pain Gel Stain since it’s been mixed with a wax. When you buff and remove the excess it gives a rich sheen and nourishes the wood too 😀

@@faffdesigns I love your work. The crazy thing is, I usually prefer natural wood in furniture, but your pieces are just so dang fun and happy. If I ever live in the UK, I will be in so much trouble. The only thing that keeps me in check is knowing how difficult it would be to get furniture to the US.

Definitely want this colour also thankyou for showing the gel stain problem. I’ve been wondering if it covered sanded areas as I’ve seen videos of people using it and leaving them patches visible but wasn’t sure if the item was still wet. Now I know thankyou xx
I didn’t have much success with the top doing it that way but I know other have. The wood underneath the old varnish was super dry so it may have been that which caused the problem

Do you recommend painting over staining these days? mostly for resell. I have an old desk. Probably from the 60s. Looking to paint but do not know what color would sell faster. what color do you see people want?
It depends massively on your location. A lot of my customers love colour and quirky pieces but I ship a lot of it to London and other big cities. I very rarely sell anything locally
If you don't have any dixie belle primer what is a good primer to use with dixie belle panint (also with the silk paint line)?
Any water based primer should work but it’s always best to test the compatibility in a scrap of wood first 😀
I love it. The colors are amazing. However, you are not using PPE while sanding and that is dangerouse, for you AND your dogs.

actually your not doing anything different, and to much time spent showing me the obvious, removing hardwear and washing, appears as thought the finish is nice, plz get creative!

Did you already know about the stain wax combo? That was new to me! PS You know there's a little button you can slide to fast forward thru parts ;)
