Hey dude , just wanna let you know the effort you’re putting into your videos is showing. Great video quick / informative good shit bru keep posting
Thanks Zee I really appreciate that 🙏
Not sure if you watched the original video. This summary butchered some of the more fascinating technical details by talking over video snippets that didn't match the context.
Dude, I genuinely appreciate this short breakdown of the recent news. I follow VR stuff, but some of those videos were just too long for me to sit down and get through. I wanna be in touch with the latest VR developments and this 100% got me there without tossing out 1hr of my day. Thanks. Subbed!!
thanks I appreciated that and your sub!
I like that they have their eyes on the end game. They’re developing technologies that will take many years to come to fruition, but are necessary to really take VR to the next level.
This is so cool! I'm glad they're taking years to research this and give a serious upgrade rather than doing a new headset every year with iterative upgrades like you see with smartphones.
The smartphone has already been pretty much perfected and any meaningful R&D was solved years ago. VR is still in its infancy. Meta is working to get it to the point of mass adoption, and they want to own the hardware that gets it there. Just like apple and the smartphone
Quest 2 is a great base line consumer device, but I don't think the 3 is too far away, considering cambria is on the edge of launch. Probably 2 years max until the next headset comes out. The sandwiched super headset of what they showed off here will probably be around 10 years in the future.
@@clydedakota1875 Is just that fully touchscreen is complete azz and the 70% glass based device that is used to carrying everywhere as well as water resistance not in every single phone are a huge flaws in the modern Smartphone design. They could have add pressure press on top of touchscreen and make the screen flexible and resistance to scratches so I considered to pay over $100 for the phone.
I still don’t understand why they needed to rebrand Oculus to “Meta” and change the Oculus logo to the Meta company logo. It’s like if Microsoft would rebrand the Xbox to “Microsoft Box” and change the Xbox logo to the Microsoft company logo. The Oculus name is synonymous with VR and is the most established name in the VR market, why not just have “Oculus by Meta” on the packaging instead?
You know, they pay a lot of money for people to figure this out. Someone in Facebook, who gets paid millions of dollars figured this out. And perhaps your question was already answered many many years ago. So in short, this product isn’t about you, it’s about the future.
Wow burn
Because Meta is Oculus... Why wouldn't they want to associate their brand with the brand they now own? It's the same brand now too, there is no "Oculus" name anymore. Microsoft didn't buy out the "Xbox" name, they made the first consoles themselves.
Oculus is most definitely not synonymous with VR
@@Ashley-1917 You're right, that's Virtuality
3D videos on oculus quest really blew my mind. Can't imagine full retinal resolution
Honestly, I dont enjoy the Zucc or Meta very much, but you gotta give it to them, thier effort towards vr is great and ill gladly let them harvest my room and body data if it means getting one of these eventually
Your room or any room for that matter is useless in terms of data, it s just noise
@@dragossorin85 hes making a point not being literal
Same
absolutely. i hate facebook with all my soul but holy moly the zucc sure is passionate about his vr chat anime girls.
@@dragossorin85 You know, there's a quote that I see sometimes.
"you can tell someone is stupid when they miss the point and fixate on small, irrelevant details"
You're that person right now
You can say about Meta what you want, but this guys are trully pushing VR in the right direction when it comes to hardware. I use the Quest 2, but I had the the Reverb G2 (not Meta) for a while and the clearity was already amazing, i can just imagine how it would be with retina displays.
Together with the grafics of the Unreal Engine 5, or whatever comes after that, VR will become slowly better then any Monitor solution.
Also the progress in the AR direction are getting wild. At first AR wasn't a thing for me, but i start to understand the
possibilities.
POV: wearing rose-tinted glasses in a world where facebook isn't the most evil company on earth
Bastards ruined the internet and will do VR too.
@@evolicious I mean, when they start the sentence with "Say what you want about Meta" means that they acknowledge that meta is an evil/greedy company. But you cant ignore the fact that the technolagy and hardware they are producing is impressive.
'You can say about Meta what you want' ..
OK they are a cancer of society that are actively making the world a worse place.
@@evolicious POV: thinking Meta is THE most evil Company on this planet
This is one of the best videos i've seen on UA-cam in a long time. Thanks for keeping it facts and minimal fluff.
Thanks Moto 🙏
Now that's more like it, i've been waiting for a form factor like this for a while
1:14. I love that these new headsets have Oculus branding lmao.
They are not new, they are old. They have posted these protytypes to the oculus developer blog for years.
We can’t wait to get our hands on this! We have a ton of ride ideas!
good format and realization, keep on the good work!
When this comes out it's gonna be revolutionary
It's gonna be a better version of something that already exists. Still pretty epic tho. I've skipped the quest 2, but when this new one comes out I'll probably buy it.
Hey thanks for the roundup!
Good breakdown video
Thank you!
Keep up the great videos. You have a great presentation and would like to see more.
You've just got to give it to mark and them. They are actually doing some incredible things and I cant wait to see what else they are going to do and achieve.
Bruh how tf this dude only got 4k subs this is a high quality vid and I can tell you with this kind of quality it wont take long for you to get to 100k👍
Wow straight up great video man super informing and well stated love it
🙏
I hope these design goals will become the meta in VR.
i love the new style of vr headsets but i also absolutely love the old style of them its hard to choose
Keep up the great work!
here's me still amazed and taken back, not to mention - in love... with my Rift S.
This was really cool, thanks for the info!
you bet!
Damn this is looking good
Man this tech will be amazing for Sim Racing im excited
It's great to see what is in R&D, will future head sets use this exact hardware? I think this is very unlikely, what is more likely to happen is they will find an alternate/cheaper method -- foreseeably through software to achieve similar results.
That’s legit the point of R&D.
If they put this tech in now and tried to sell it, it would cost over 2k and wouldn’t sell well.
So they have to find cheap alternative ways to achieve the same effect but with cheaper production costs.
really excited about the future of vr
Me too! 👍😉👌😇💯😁😊😃🙂
Great video! Keep it up
thanks smomby!
I like how Mike closes his eyes and looks away while talking about the future headsets
I rewatched it to see what your talking about and the man seemed to blink a bunch and look straight forward the entire time.
@@smittyvanjagermanjenson182"consumer viable" blink, blink blink.. "There is a clear path" blink, blink, blink , shut, blink

Prescription lenses is a genius idea I can’t lie
im so glad about the glasses thing because when ur wearing glasses on the quest 2 they steam sooo easily
Ive been very happy with the oculus 2, but probably cause I thought itd be like the cardboard vr. Now im excited for the improvements. Pavlov and vtol are too damn fun.
This looks awesome 👌👌👌
One of my greatest gripes with VR headsets today is that I have to get a new set of prescription lenses every time. If they can find a way to do that on the headset end, that would be awesome! Obv I care more about tech that increase immersion like varifocal lenses, better ppi, fov, eye tracking, etc, so hopefully these get ironed out an become available to the average consumer soon.
Never thought that prescription lenses for vr headsets were a thing till now, thank you lol
Mark with Meta VR feels like Steve Jobs with the first apple laptop
Can’t wait for the quest 3
All the technical stuff aside, I want a light weight headset that doesn’t feel heavy af putting so much pressure front of your face, doesn’t fog up when you sweat, doesn’t need a counterweight, one where you don’t have to buy $100+ of accessories to make it comfortable.
Agreed
That looks exciting.
ill absolutely be buying this headset.
Bought my meta quest, I love it!
With that corrective eye tech, I can see them making an eye exam program before you boot up the application to get the best image for your eyes (maybe even saved to your account since it's meta). similar to adjusting the size of the image on TVs now
Excellent video well presented info.
🙏
Mark looks better when the headset covers his face
Brilliant vid!
thanks vr reviews!
Super excited for the future of Meta
Mark from boring facebook CEO to VR advancer. I begin to like this guy!
I'm beginning* Imagine being corrected by a 13 year old. 🤦♂️
@@Aleks01499 who cares people make mistakes
@@Aleks01499 It's actually "I'm beginning"
Don't. He's a billionaire who, like all billioneres, has brought untold suffering to humanity. There are more important things than VR.
@@Ashley-1917 And what did you do that actually benefits humanity????
When I first got the quest I knew it was going to be big
It would be nice to use VR without my glasses which required me to adjust it more than once. also maybe they can find inspiration from the other VR headsets and use it to improve the features.
Why not look into prescription lenses? I got some for my quest 2 and it made such a massive difference in comfort and visual quality. I had to do this, because the quest destroyed my last pair of glasses, by rubbing a blind spot directly in front of my pupil. That quest suffered some light scratches, but I bought another one to make up for it.
@@smittyvanjagermanjenson182 I adapted by using the glasses spacer and after some adjustments it fits over my glasses 👓
i saw an ad for that on tv last night
Thx VR quickie. We here at VR Pranksters Inc. are excited to try out this headset and will let you know our thoughts after we test it out.
I played VR for the first time yesterday and HOLY COW!!! it was amazing but exhausting xD
Lol it gets much less exhausting after you get used to it. You'll probably get a lot lazier with how much you move in vr, and your eyes and brain will get more used to the whole thing.
You can’t put bright lights so close to people faces. YOU GO BLIND.
Why don't they ever focus on FOV?? It's just as important for immersion as all of the rest, imo. After using a pimax i wouldn't go back down to something like the quest or index.
because they are trying to mimic how and what the human eye sees in stages. The first stage is the quality and physics of light, how they can reduce those heavy functions into the most optimal form factor before having to convert that into a viable wide fov model. otherwise theyd have to focus on making wide fov for each and every release which is alot of work for something that doesnt reach that 8k retinal resolution and etc blah blah. They prob wanna work on that stuff after they got something that hits the ceiling first before working out the rest of this stuff especially on a average consumer market. Thats a lot of work theyd like not to work on when making cheap affordable consumer affordable hardware.
@@mdreza3471 i get that, but there's so much to more to it all. If you have the best clarity but still looking through essential the FOV of a swim goggle then what's the point.
@@-FAFO- Well thats how reality looks like for people with glasses :-D
@@-FAFO- you cant just increase fov without solving the other stuff at the same time. you'll see odd visual distortions and effects in the periphery.
agree. FOV is mad important. Some people have really good peripheral vision.
@2:24 This is Exactly what I want from a VR headset! The capability to actually blind me if I look at a virtual sun! hahaha lol But seriously, that'd be pretty cool
I've held out on this VR thing, and I can go even longer.
Looking forward
Everyone saying mark being a lizard but looking at this it shows mark is a alien trying to help us with faster development with tech
Seems like someone trying to own the future. In the process they actively try to stiffle competition, rebrand to disassociate from past and ongoing ethical and legal issues, and so on. Mark doesn't seem like the best of people, let's not forget that he has been into the shadiest practices since the very inception of Facebook (didn't he misappropriated his mate's idea and turned it into Facebook???). It's unfortunate that this person is at the forefront of consumer vr development.
Hopefully full dive is next 🙏
Wow this is insane
Pretty Awesome VR is getting this boost to improve, and all the attention! I just have a Oculus Quest 2, but for sure i will buy a better headset later! Its just nice to being immersed into another world or just go to the Virtual Cinema to watch a 3d movie fully immersive! Cheers
Good video, With your good video you seem famous
at around the 3 minute mark all i heard was we already have the tech but you cant have it yet! I'll pay for it!
Cool!
Bright, richly coloured, high contrast retina displays with eye tracking and foveated rendering are a must. Hopefully they can increase the field of view too. Even with today's high end VR headsets, Microsoft Flight Simulator in VR is incredible.
Human eye resolution, human level field of view, eye tracking, HDR, and when PCs are smoothly handling high fps Ray tracing would be the holy grail of this tech. Amazing they already have a few prototypes before even launching their first AR HMD. If they can sandwich all of them together in 10-15 years the future is going to be insane!
I’m sorry to those of you who hate meta but I’m fn excited for the future products from them
It’s not that we’re not excited for these types of leaps and bounds for VR, it’s that we wish for two things.
1. We wish for more competition In The field to push this advancement even more
2. We wish the only company making any meaningful progress wasn’t the company that has been to court several times for privacy related concerns.
@@christianmccauley7340 yea Oculus seems to be the only one interested in Stand Alone headsets for gaming, Valve makes amazing PC headsets atleast
@@akiotatsuki2621 Valve Index has better spec but the reliability is none existence.
Yeah I get the hate behind meta but idgaf if they sell my data or do anything shady. As long as I’m not effected I’m fine I think it’s goofy for the people who thinks meta is like some evil corporation waiting to fry are brains and steal our kidneys 💀
@@kevwads1786 lol Let them steal my Data idgaf Google and every other company already does it in Droves.
when humanity's technology advanced enough that the lizard man feels free to introduce highly advanced alien tech
Peripheral vision needs expansion too.
insane. just insane.
Only HDR display ? Psvr 2 would like to put that one to the test
Ready player one is getting closer boys
all hail zoidberg zuka and the dystopian future!
headset looks nice tho
I'm a little nervous about the depth of field focusing. That really has the potential of screwing up some users' eyes. Even rendering blurred depth of field to simulate it can screw up, forcing the users to focus on one object when they were actually intending to look at something else.
there will be a trial soon for eyes damages, i'm sure.
good for them.
You know you have ADHD when you notice the apple watch is low power mode and you go back to confirm it 1:38
Unless you can make one of these that I can use with my eyes closed, I'm gonna pass on frying my eyeballs
Wonder how they going to keep this headset cool from overheating, I remember growing up my parents used to tell me that am too close to the tv could hurt my eyes but now laser vr right into my eyes.
Does anyone feel like this would be perfect for blade and sorcery nomad if you have blood textures and that they would not blur and feel more realistic?
The game ideas I have for it are insane
why not mini led instead of laser backlight? mini led should be able to do hdr just as well.
Does this mean no more lens fogging?
hmm what i see that these new VR glasses only have the mounting of the glasses with only horizontal band...that will press the VR glasses in your face...the best Quest 2 Pro straps releave the pressure from your face for better comfort! ;)
I have the oculus quest one I hope the improvements are very good because my eyes start to become blurry after I'm done playing in it
I want one those head sets lol a LiDAR infrared object tracking and facial recognition. And an ai that converts all those inputs into visual content and u have super vision 🤣🤣
Very well done vid. I did get a tad bit bores though halfway through. Your delivery was a bit meh, but not bad.
As long as the fov is good, I'm all in
It's crazy to think, I was in year 7 as a 10 year old kid, obsessed with early AR, voice recognition and facial recognition, would download little tester apps on my jailbroken iPhone with incydia "the good ol' days" now look, we come so far, but I'm also scared how headset info would be used against us
Hope something comes out by the next year.
55 PPD looks more like 5x that of Quest 2 than 2.5x
Quest 2 has a good resolution, it just can't handle high-quality resolutions in games during stand alone use.
Did Norm from Tested give you that footage ?
3:55 There are lasers that fit on a microchip. Using small crystal layers for lasing / gain medium.
well yes but that are 700 nm low power laser diodes and not the kind you need to backlight a display or a hologram
was expecting it to be something like Mr Garrisons IT bike
Future designs also need better battery life. If it weren't for my swappable Bobo VR batteries, I'd never be able to have a decent play session.
I've played many sessions lasting longer than what my battery life would usually allow due to charging whilst playing, if you want to have fun whilst not worrying about leaving to charge, alternate between standing up games and sitting down games where you can plug in the headset whilst you charge, most games aren't too battery intensive and you will gain charge whilst playing.
They just need to shrink the headset down to snow goggles size. Give it a polarized look in the front.
I'm very excited about the future 🤩
All this 5-10 years down the road stuff is cool. But I am still shocked they gave zero info on cambria which is supposed to release in a few months at this point.
Super cool but all feels 10 years away again :(
There are plenty on non-meta developments coming soon. Meta is overrated
psvr2 is next year
OK so let's say in maybe 8 years we will get to a next milestone.
Mike looks like a VR himself
