Hi Stuntrock, Just a quick message to thank you for tuning into French Vinyl Addict's livestream yesterday, and for posting comments and questions. It was tricky to keep track of what people were posting, as I didn't have access to the comments as they appeared, but I hope you felt the thing worthwhile and that we made a decent attempt at responding.
I noticed very late your question about Techno. I honestly can' say I followed its development. My nightclub years had long passed when Techno showed-up, so I only heard it casually. There were so many sub-genres in dance music, I just couldn't keep up. I'm always open to strong recommendations though, particularly those that deliver in a solo listening session, as oppose to the dance floor.
Cheers, David
Vive l’alternative ! Merci, Stunty....Happy New Year
Great list Stunty! I will jump on this one soon. I esp. like your question 11, its a good one and also I saw Bandulu many years ago in the 90s live a rave in Montreal. Also really liked the cover art on that first question you did. Bonne Année
It's the first time I listen to one of your video. Definitely not the last. Straight subscription for me. I got a feeling you are going to make me discover a lot of interesting music.
Well, let's hope I live up to the hype ^^
Dumitrescu is amazing. Pierres Sacrées is a favorite
Is it the one on ideologic organ? Iirc, it’s much more electronic than his early stuff, right ?
Wild and eclectic bunch of records man. Really enjoyed that & I'm jealous of every record you showed except Slint, because I've already got it. Really interesting stuff. Cheers...Ben
Cheers Ben, I've been curious with many of your showings myself ^^Let's hope for more crossover in 2024!
Super une nouvelle video !
Bon courage pour le froid !
Heuy man! Great seeing you on Rachel's stream yesterday! Can you tell me what city youre in? We are planning a trip to Europe maybe next fall? If you make it to the states lmk! Do you go to any record fairs in Europe? Which are your favorite? I am going to try to make it to the Austin one this year, which is our largest in the states. And youre not forbidden to travel here by Brexit!
Hey hey. I'm in Stockholm, ad the next big fair in Europe in the fall would be early November, Den Bosch, 10-12 times bigger than the Austin one, if not more. It's where all great international dealers reserve their best stuff for. There are tons of other fairs, obviously, but these days, lots of crazy music lovers reserve their budget for that bi-annual one. I'll let you know for sure, and let me know if you want more advice or help, for that trip. There is a chance I'm going to the US later this year, actually, but probably east coast.
12:00 Giuseppe Morrocchi cover... Another good vinyl tag that Rob Walker set in motion in 2023 addressed album covers. So I can relate this vid to that one...
Rectangle proportions in the centre of the Giuseppe Morrocchi album cover = scaled-down A4.
Inside that scaled-down rectangle, those ~~~wavy lines are what used to represent, within old comic panels, texts of type in notes or articles.
e.g. Bruce Wayne reading a newspaper in an old DC comic: other than bold headlines, the rest of the news article might be ~~~~~~ standing in for sentences.
So the artist/album title above & outside that rectangle is like a *pull-out quote* from the imaginary ~ sentences.
Like a grudging concession to literal representation because the artist & the album has to to be CALLED something so that we can request it to buy it.
(You know how an editor samples key sentences in a printed article by pulling out that sentence in bold inserted like a headline between paras? Like so.)
And painted wispy scarlet & blue skeins on white around the rest of the album cover is outside the dimensions of the scaled-down imaginary A4 page: *Beyond words* . The painted skeins represent the music inside, not the imaginary sentences that are diminished to ~~~~ in their incompetence.
This could be bad news for writers!
Depends how you read it.
You could also say the ~~~ imaginary sentences ARE conveying the music, represented by those wispy skeins escaping from inside the scaled-down A4 like an elusive aroma, evoked by the imaginary writing.
If you spin a turntable at 78rpm, & drop scarlet & blue paint onto it, the splashed watercolours roiling mid-air would leap off that plinth onto Giusseppe Morrocchi's album cover.
One reading of that album cover might be: The music within, being abstract, is beyond the capacity of a *music review* to cope with!
Or it could be a rejection of analysis altogether.
Or it could mean, the nature of ALL music is beyond *literature* to approximate, & therefore any music review is never going to get close to conveying an experience of the album, because to experience the album, you have to listen to the album.
I'm not happy with this interpretation - - I don't like selling writing short as a poor relation to music. But it could be true whether I like it or not: it could be true, literature is a poor relation to music.
I surely never moved anybody with my writing the way music moves people every day. But I'm hoping that's my shortfall rather than the shortfall of the medium. Maybe both?
I have a few good books about music - - *Geoff Dyer's BUT BEAUTIFUL* is a fine evocation of some musical figures like Mingus & Monk, evoking their musical style by giving a sense of their attitude.
But therein is the limitation maybe: Music directly accesses parts of us that literature seems only to imply indirectly, like a distant relative one step removed.
My own solution is to describe rather than explain.
But that doesn't mean description is as effective in engaging the reader's consciousness as wholly as does music.
Paradoxically, there's an article in there somewhere! An article about whether an article is pointless other than a telegram to the music listener: *Hey there's a good Giusseppe Morrocchi album out!*
VC vids seldom show books about music, let alone talk about the book in any detail beyond "This is great."
When any *special deluxe edition* is shown & praised in the VC, when it comes to the *book* in the package, the book is flicked through to show how many photos there are & that's it, never to return.
And there's usually a 70/30 photos/text ratio - - like even the publishers don't believe words can deal with music!
Consider the absence in this tag & the mainstream alternative tag of a directive such as, "Show a book about music you got this year that inspired you" or even "...that failed to get anywhere near the music it writes about."
Books about music are seldom on the VC radar & *never* in any significant way. Books are wallpaper to the VC.
So it might be that the VC agree with Giuseppe Morrocchi's cover, if I have read his cover right.
Cool robe, Stunty!
appreciate the interesting vinyl tag. refreshing. lot's of sheep in this hobby ; )
You just reminded me I would love to shave a sheep, sometimes ^^
@@StuntrockConfusion on a positive note, love that Spoonfed Hybrid record. I had never heard it, but I love Pale Saints, ESP Summer, Insides Euphoria... Added to the old watchlist.
Neat, Neat, Neat. Thank you, C.
Cheers Michael, hope you had a grand 2023 digging year ^^
Nice Damned Song !
Diggin' the channel and the "other vinyl tag" concept. I will try to put one of these together soon too!
Cheers! And by all means, those are an easy and sometimes fun way to engage with more people in the vinyl community. I'm sure you'd have a lot to offer, considering your experience ^^
The vinyl tags are a great excuse to really comb through your records thoughtfully. I thoroughly enjoyed my first one and I'm looking forward to future contributions!
Tack for the Almuro info Stunty, the Clearing record you played yesterday seems like a find, the pace was perfect on that track.
@@StuntrockConfusion Bra tanke. Jag njöt at lyssna på det online och kan alltid drömma at ägna vinyl, lol
I was just listening to Spiderland the other night. In the other vinyl tag, it was the record I chose as a classic from the 90s. This is a bit more challenging because just about all your questions reference the item being acquired in 2023. Ie, the longest quest. I'll need to go through my Discogs because I generally add a record as soon as I get it. Cheers!
I do the same, so it's easy to go through what was a 2023 acquisition, and a 2023 release.
Would love participate in a Stunty Tag, showing some electronic, techno cutz.
But I won’t put myself in front of a camera.
I will have to find a white sheet to hide behind and do it in a Moodymann style 😄
You do put yourself out on IG, though, don't you? ^^ I'm sure you can find a creative way, hahah
Interesting tag Stunty, I will dig in and see if I can do this aswell :) liked the questions of course. Take care and hopefully I meet you soon again, it has gone to long already. Happy New Year and cheers
Yes, too long, you avoided me, hahah
@@StuntrockConfusion haha yes, I will give you a call my friend.
Bonne année, Stuntois.
Merci, toi aussi! Hope to see more of you this year
Stunty I was sure you were going to say you were jealous of my Jethro Tulls Greatest Hits that I found. I at least knew Slint and Golden Palaminos otherwise big surprise, I didn’t have a clue about the rest. And people accuse me of not listening to popular stuff lol. This was very good, I will see what I can do. I have seen 5 different vinyl tags now. If it gets people excited then it is alright
I awas jealous just fine, but I decided to stay polite, I allow myself one bestial comment a year with everyone, and you only had yours. People who accuse you of not listening to popular stuff are goblins.
The other Slint album is actually a bit better ..called Tweez & Produced by Steve Albini. Good old boys from Kentucky.
I used to dislike it a lot. Still have the CD, though, and I have warmed up to it, and am looking for an original. But I still think that however uneven Spiderland is, it has some stronger songs
Greetings
Great tag,
question; what was playing in the background?
Telectu?
Ha! No, it's an italian record I'll be playing in my next stream, nothing unaffordable ^^
A bientôt j'éspère!
But Robert Fithen said that there should only be one 2024 vinyl tag iteration. lol
Who is Robert Fithen?
lol. A (nother) VC channel.
@@MickSupper and what authority might he have on the matter?
@@StuntrockConfusion None. I was just making a joke, but yes, he did say that and it made me laugh.
@@MickSupper I know I know, goblins be goblins ^^ Cheers!
You’ll never catch me doing a vinyl tag. I find the idea of a bunch of people doing the same video response totally unnecessary and kind of moronic if I’m going to be totally honest. Having said this, if I was ever going to participate, yours would be the one. You’re absolutely right about the other guy having his questions ready and posted the moment 2024 hit. This is to me just self-gratification so that person can get extra views and subscribers. It’s so transparent. And people jump on the thread like a bunch of sheep. That’s unfortunately most record collectors in the so-called VC, who can’t think for themselves and need influencers to tell them about the latest Jazz reissue they should buy. Do I sound jaded? 😂😂😂😂
not jaded at all, ha! Just a realist I guess.
I hope to be the first to catch you doing a vinyl tag. 😃 They are inane.
@@VinylRundown They are, but we are humans, therefore we tag ^^
@@StuntrockConfusion Yours are not inane - just the rest are!
