Genesis Trick of the Tail and Wind and Wuthering - definitely in my top 10 of albums. I did a vinyl of the month for Wind and Wuthering. I was a little late to the party with the 2024 vinyl tag but I finally got around to it. Great choices.

Nice show of FSOL! I used to have a huge wall poster of their Lifeforms album on our loft wall back in Uni. Quality electronic. I picked some Autechre for fave 90s pick in this Tag. Nick Cave, Genesis, Joy Division! Great picks man

Thanks very much. I did manage to find a vinyl copy of 'Lifeforms' recently, so I've filled most of the gaps in my FSOL collection. Now to dig-out my old CD singles, the ones with the multiple mixes.

First time viewer David - really enjoyed your response to this year's tag.
I'm a big electronic music fan, but not keen on dance rhythms - however I do really like FSoL - the Lifeforms album is excellent. The first Environments album is a good one too.
Great choices with Genesis, BJH and Joy Division.
I've somehow got the booklet from the King Crimson comp, but not the album itself!
Love that Move compilation. It was one of the very first albums I ever bought back in the 70s - still have my copy. MFP also did another excellent Move compilation of later material that's a must have.
Remember seeing that Beckett album at a record fair a few years ago. I passed on it, and by the next fair when would have bought it it was gone - shame.
    All the best...Pete

Hi Pete, Thanks for the comment. That second MFP Move album passed me by. I wish I had it. Going to chase it down. I do have a double comp of theirs that was released in the '80s, so I'm guessing the tracks might be included there. But those MFP pressings were great.
I've just acquired a vinyl copy of 'Lifeforms'. The cartridge on my main turntable finally gave up, after ten years, last week and when I ordered a replacement at my local hi-fi shop, the owner gave me 'Lifeforms' for free! Thrilled to bits.

For some reason, I have never heard anything from the Future Sound of London. Those are both fabulous Geneis records, and I, love Joy Division. I donlt think I have ever seen that King Crimson 7" record. Your dinner party sounds intriguing 🙂 I don't have a copy Hotel California! Thanks very much for the shoutout, David! I appreciate it. Cheers Brian. Given that you like Eno, Bowie, etc, I think you'd enjoy FSOL. 'Lifeforms' is probably the one to get (think Bowie's instrumentals from 'Low' and 'Heroes' as a starting point), but the vinyl version of the more recent 'Environments' series are also great.
Can't believe you don't have 'Hotel California'!

Despite my wisecracking, I'm regularly (and pleasantly) surprised by some of your choices VR, not least your love of early BJH! They were great back in the day, and although sedate in performance, the music was well sound. They were the second or third band I ever saw (Uriah Heep was equally the second or third), but that was much later, in 1975. Less White Album and more Abbey Road-influenced by then, I reckon.

Hello Brian. Thanks for commenting, and for your question.
I was just explaining to friends the other day that, these days, much of my listening is 'head music', rather than 'Limb music'. In other words what appeals to me most of the time is music to concentrate on, to pay attention to, and to contemplate all the components of the music. This is as oppose to, say, dance or high energy music, where the rhythm is dominant.
I do quite a bit of late night listening and it's very often music from the ECM label. Crisp, clean, often ambient, jazz/neo-classical. Perfect for creating a relaxing, but not soporific, atmosphere. It's usually superbly well-recorded, and has enough twists and turns to keep my attention. Jan Garbarek, Tomas Stanko, Bill Frisell, Pat Metheny/Lyle Mays, and Keith Jarrett are all good examples of the genre (and the label).

“Jumper union”…priceless. I had a laugh at that as I was of course thinking of the Winter 2024 David Atkinson fashion collection. Your comment on Genesis was perfectly said. I think one of the first vinyl community videos I saw was your Genesis rankings. “Closer” is so incredible and I still have my original copy. I also have that King Crimson set with that booklet. Sinead 😢. “Debbie might have to stay over” 😂 I saw Rage Against The Machine at the Lollapalooza Festival, Summer /03 in the Toronto area. What a weekend that was! Maldives sounds perfect. Thanks David. I do occasionally overpay for records, but I’ve found a heck of a lot of bargains, it’s swings & roundabouts. The PIL single in that condition is a delight & one of my favourite ever tunes. Big fan of Future Sound here. One of my prized possessions is my 12” of Papua New Gunea which was my most played back in 1992, one of their slightly more danceable moments. Just been watching your cycling is like jazz video, very entertaining. 😊

Excellent video once again David. I don’t have anything by Nick Cave so would you be kind enough to recommend a few CD’s as a taster or something to download so I can give him a try. I noticed that there are quite a few albums that he has done with the Bad Seeds that are not too expensive.

    • @davidatkinson-lifematters4826
      @davidatkinson-lifematters4826  8 місяців тому +1

      Hi Tony,
I think there's a distinction to be made between 'edgy' Nick Cave and 'reflective' Nick Cave. If you prefer 'edgy', then the earlier Bad Seeds albums are great, along with 'Dig Lazarus Dig!'. I prefer the more sombre, reflective, even inspirational, Nick Cave. The albums I'd recommend in this vein are:
'The Boatman's Call' - most people go for this one, but I think the production is too austere, and he easily bettered it later.
'No More Shall We Part' - the next one. Slightly more varied sonic palette, and 'God Is In The House' is a beauty.
'Push The Sky Away' - fantastic. My favourite. The title track I could listen to all day on a loop. Stunning. Warren Ellis starts making a big difference to Nick's music - sound effects, keyboard washes, spacey violin.
'Skeleton Tree' - Like 'Push the Sky Away'.
      'Ghosteen' - Beautiful. Moving.
'Live at KCRW' - wonderful, intimate performance.
'Live at Alexandra Palace' - solo at the piano. A bit samey without the help of Ellis, but if you're in the mood, a great listen.
'Australian Carnage' - latest live offering. Another winner.
      Happy New Year!

@@tonyjedioftheforest1364 Good luck in your search Tony. One thing to add about Nick Cave....he reminds me a bit of Dylan - not to everyone's taste, requires patience to differentiate between the albums and his changing style, but truly rewards focused attention. I'm sure he's a very edgy guy to know, but in his reflective moments he's surely full of wisdom and has a good heart.
I'd also recommend checking-out his 'The Red Hand Files' website, where he gives frank and sensitive replies to fans who ask him questions. It's a nice place to hang-out for an hour or so, every so often.

Fantastic video. As a lover of female vocals with a bit of a different voice you have given me two new ones to look up, The Unthanks and Anais Mitchell so thanks for that Nearly dropped my glass of wine when you put the Becket album up. I have that and the accompanying single. There is a great clip of them on OGWT on youtube unless its been taken down. I wrote a review of the Back Street Crawler albums on my written blog about 10 years ago and Sless commented on it. We are now connected on Faceache and he regularly gives me info about stuff that happened in the 70s. He is still singing and is now the singer in Geordie the band Brian Johnson was in before AC/DC. He has another band where he has a young guitarist who plays the Kossoff style really well that's called The Band Plays On and they do Free/BSC tracks. He also does a Rod Stewart tribute act! Hoping to get him on my channel when it's got enough viewers. Incidentally all the way through the first part I was thinking I recognise this blokes voice from somewhere and then you mentioned the record cleaning video and that was the one I had seen. It was indeed very informative. Apologies for the long reply. Subscribed so I don't miss any more gems. Cheers!

That's brilliant Martin. It's so heartwarming to see old troopers like Terry still out there, doing his stuff. And amazing that he's fronting today's version of Geordie. Not exactly a 'full-circle' thing, but hilarious that he and Brian somehow have been in the same band. One of my brothers is a drummer in the North East scene, and knows some of the personalties. He's met Brian, but not sure about Terry. But what's great is knowing that the old guys keep going, paying tribute to some excellent, but mostly forgotten songs. Terry always had a fine and soulful voice, and I particularly like 'Second Street' and the first 'Crawler' albums - a crime that they're not more widely celebrated. I'd love to see him perform before he finally hangs up his boots.
