- The annual rite of passage, commonly known as vinyl tag has begun. 1000s of VC channels will now fight for air space to have their vinyl tag heard by all. Once the dust settles only the strong will survive. Yes, this a a violent type of tag. It is also fun as you get to here a lot of responses to the same questions by everyone which is really fun if you have the time to watch them all. Well here is my entry, Are You Entertained!!!!

Rob just assumed there was only one Manchester lol. I showed him! The 80s really opened me up to new music. If you look at my collection it is heavily weighted to the 80s, college rack, garage, post rock, paisley underground, rap, etc…. Incredble decade of variety. Vinyl Tag is all about having some fun

Wow some really great albums here and I loved your take on the funky dinner party! BTO is also one of my early post AM radio forays into rock as well! They har a hard rock band that also got radio airplay along with Grand Funk and Blue Oyster Cult! Well played Steve! This was a cool TAG! ✨✌️👽✨
Brian, it’s good to know we can rely upon your support and form an alliance. I had heard the Mikes were talking to the Pete’s and promising them some free vinyl to support them. It could be a crazy 2024. As a 70s guy you know the power of BTO in rural. America. We didn’t hear all this other stuff. Grand Funk was big also. I love doing tag, it is a time to just have fun and not take any of it seriously.

Good point on Redding, I never do see him shown but 60s soul as a whole is very much missing at least on channels I watch. It’s a shame. The dinner party question was my favorite as it allowed me to use a lot of humor lol. I have to check out your tag yet, saw it in the feed

Hi Steve a fun video to watch. Lots of stuff I've not seen before. The naked bike ride cover reminds me a little of the 'naked girl bicycle race' picture insert with Queen's "Jazz" LP. Your Buzzcocks 12" looks like it might be Australian as I think I spied a 'Wizard' record label, which was an Aussie record company. Crazy Elephant's "Gimme Gimme Good Loving" and Spencer Davis Group's "Gimme Some Lovin'" are 2 completely different songs. I remember my older brother buying the Crazy Elephant 45 back in the late 60's. Cheers 👍
Peter, that is some great information. Two Gimme Good Lovin songs. I do love the Crazy Elephant song. It was on the first album I ever bought as I mentioned, it had lots of hooks. This year I was finally able to get the Queen album with the naked bicycle racers. That was a popular poster in college lol. Thanks for watching and commenting Peter.

I think a couple of people have already showed artists releasing 3 in a year ( Monkees- 1967).
Tough to ignore the 70s for classic Rock, punk, new wave and beginnings of synth pop.
Interesting 7" singles ( I don't collect them) so curious to see what people have.

I really must get some Zamrock in the collection this year.

Steve Bales has a jaw dropping collection Mark. He had 100s of extras and let me have my pick of anything I wanted. It was a lot of albums and many were wonderful looking OGs. Te dinner party question is always a favorite to have fun with. I do enjoy Vinyl tag.

Nice selections, Steve. On your recommendation I had to get that Waves Of Distortion shoegaze comp in case my Still In A Dream shoegaze comp gets lonely. The Mikes are a house of cards so the Steves should topple them handily. But word on the street is that the Daves are consolidating their power as we speak, so watch your back!
Lmao , damn Dave’s are staging a coup. Son of a gun, never trust a Dave Russell ! Too funny. Can you ever have too many comps? It is like a group putting out another greatest hits album, all the same songs except maybe two new hits. And we still buy it!
Nice responses Steve...I have so far only heard the first Luna album but I'll be checking out the rest of their catalogue this year. Betty Davis is someone I need to check out also.
The next two albums from Penthouse too me are the best. Definitely a mix of Tom Verlaine and Velvet Undergound I have never tired of them. I do enjoy doing vinyl tag as I can just have some fun with the questions James

Last year as well I was glad to add it to the collection. I think a fair amount of us had to go searching for 7” some interesting ones there for you. The dinner party would be interesting! And very Funky! Actually I think Ozzy is a Zombie. Also I feel your pain on putting away as well:-) Boston was going to be mine also. Went with Steve.
I love doing the tag and just having fun with the questions. It’s a great way to show your collection also and get your channel noticed. It also becomes a well watched video though there were a million of them this year. I’m almost caught up. Ozzy walks among us haha. Dinner party was my favorite question. Great Steve! I just finally received my Luna live albums from Bandbox. Sound great! I also have the Strum & Thrum compilation on CD but still need to really listen to it. Miles & Betty together at the party! Ask George to come in a diaper. Damn, that’s some party!

The VC will be jealous of us Pete have you noticed how easy an album is pulled out, it’s quick and easy and fast but putting them back in takes forever especially since it is alphabetized. Lots of cool albums and funny stories! Your party with Miles was quite interesting! Trying to bring back him and his wife huh? You should of threw Hendrix into the mix. Miles was jealous of him, thought his wife slept with Hendrix. Getting snow up in Midland? It’s just cold and raining a bit down here.
I had to come down to Detroit to enjoy some ice Michael. I wanted that Hendrix album with all the naked ladies to be my cover to go into!
@@stevecarlsonvinylcommunity9147 yeah that’s a great cover. Though Hendrix didn’t like it, it was nice. My dad found a German original pressing of that at RPM Records in Traverse City. He saw it behind the counter, left the store, drove a couple of miles, and then returned and bought it for me. To my surprise, the records were NM and sounds better than the reissue pressed at QRP.

I pulled that Boston album and immediately figured you wouldn’t have this! Dave the Vinyl Anabassasor showed the album I use to have, the Hendrix with all the naked women. That was my first thought.

"Your hair's gonna fall out if you keep doing that..." 🤣🎸🤘💇♂ I have a soft spot for certain groups of that genre (I was a teenager then) and a burning hatred for others. I think the Hysteria album completed my conversion into college rock and bands of the Our Band Could Be Your Life variety.
I still can not get into hair bands Chris but like you College Rock was a whole new incredible world. I am still chasing down new bands from that era

Eighties is a good choice for favourite decade. I nearly went for that one myself - garage revival and paisley underground, oh yes!
There need to be more Luna reissues. I saw an original copy of Penthouse in a record shop the other day selling for £120.
I have never seen an OG of any Luna album. By that time there was very little vinyl coming out in the US unlike the UK who kept vinyl going. Quite sad John

I think you would really enjoy a comp this year called ‘In The Light Of Time’ on Ace Records. It’s U.K. Post-Rock and Leftfield Pop 1992-1998. It’s was the next step for shoe gaze, adding some electronics and more ambient textures. Bands like Bark Psychosis, Flying Saucer Attack, Mogwai, Laika etc. The U.K. music press were setting it up as the next ‘scene’, but then Oasis & Britpop came along and ran all over it. A fascinating, almost hidden chapter in U.K. music.
Well Harris you did it. I went on Discogs and bought In The Light of Time. I felt I’m might as well blow my record budget the first week of January and then spend the rest of the year justifying buying more since I already blew the budget. Makes sense to me Harris

I am pretty sure that Punk Vinyl Tag 2024 was 1st to be out this year. Even if Rob released his on 00:00 in UK time, then Punk Vinyl Tag was out two hours earlier. Minor details. But it seems that Punks are dead in the VC... But hey you did great with answers to Rob's questions.
I have to check out the punk tag as I bought a lot of great punk classics last year. I have seen a few people do it. I have now counted 6 different vinyl tags. Maybe I should do a Zamrock Vinyl Tag?

I don’t listen to The Buzzcocks - or rather I just haven’t - but that looks like a great record to look at and read.
I have a beginning interest in shoegaze. I’ve watched a couple of videos discussing shoegaze and I’ve heard some music that could draw me in. I think I just need the right landing point. I used to have a My Bloody Valentine album but it was the production or recording quality that put me off eventually. Interesting music though.
There is a lot of new shoegaze coming out lately. Two classic group would be the first albums from Ride and Slowdive. It didn’t last long as Brit pop took over so the music suddenly changed. I have really gotten into it along with dream pop and keep looking for new bands to explore It can be noisy but there is something happening under all that noise. A new group would be Blush, give them a listen on YT

I am a Steve in Mikes clothes Mike. It’s all about the eventually take over. I have been getting done Brian’s committed to joining the cause. They feel the Mikes don’t give them enough respect. The Jared’s asked about joining but that is kind of a wanker name so I said no. So many moving chess pieces Mike. To see Luna live would be a dream. I know they are touring the coasts this year. Primal Scream is fun band name for me because I always think metal music when I hear name. BECAUSE there is metal band called Primal fear.

I think they got the transparency qualification wrong. If it was transparent I should have seen your face through the vinyl. To me that would count as translucent. Transparent you can see clearly through it regardless of color. If light passes through it but you can’t see clearly through it, it’s translucent. Sorry to be that guy, but “the more you know…” Being a dork about this kinda stuff doesn’t help me either.
Great showing of records. I’m surprised Zambia wasn’t your top nation to go with. It should have been, “What’s your favorite country (besides the one you live in) to listen to music from.” I’m predicting almost everyone chooses their own nation in which they currently reside. It’s too easy to fall into the comfort zone on that entry.

Eric it is so funny you mentioned the country question, that was my exact thought , pick an obscure country and make up some goofy reason for it. Hello I listen to Neil Young most time of the year (Im an old man) and I bought Led Zeppelin Brussels 1980 bootleg yesterday abd my question is your opinion on bootlegs?
Hasse, some of the new Pink Floyd bootlegs I have bought have been excellent. Older bootlegs can be questionable, not all of them but some were made off cassette and they just can sound muddled. The Television boot I showed sounded good but there was issues. It is more about the power of the performance when it comes to a boot and to hear the band unedited in my opinion

Vinyl Richie did not have Boston. I think I showed it before in my favorite albums of 76 and he said he did not have it. But you!!! Shame shame shame. How have you survived without that album Brian. I think I have shown the Cramps album on every vinyl tag lol.
