    “Large side flange” - now that’s a phrase you don’t expect to hear on a Sunday morning Steve!
    As for the bike itself - the frame, build and attention to detail is superb (possibly not to everyone’s taste). The heart of this package, MGU and drive system, takes emtb out of the dark ages into the 21st century where the technology needs to be. Personally, because of the price point, would wait a year or two and let the market place debug the system and the next evolutions come on stream when this gets months of trashing in the mud, wet and grime here in the UK. Using in manual or fully auto is a great option which depending on where you’re riding and how knackered you are, you set to suit (look at most performance cars and how they are used). As for the weight - well, it a bit of a current marketing obsession but with riders like ourselves at 95kg, the 85kg rider is better off immediately and the 100kg rider less so. I know it’s where that weight sits but a few KG extra, lower in a bike setup it no big deal. 😎

    Game changers have come and gone before. If the industry refuses to adopt (and pay for) pinion MGU’s it’ll get forgotten about which is highly likely. Just to add to the pressure whos got 10k to throw at a 27kg bike thats largely unproven IRL? If it survives 2 or 3 evolutions it’ll be good but right now its more like putting 10k on red or black

    • @BillyBob-ri9pm
      @BillyBob-ri9pm 7 годин тому +1

      Pinion is at least 10 years old and highly regarded for robust long lasting bike gear boxes. No worries there. Even if the wider derailleur based industry ignores the MGU there are enough niche companies onboard with it to survive. For instance both Moustache and Riese & Muller are jumping on board this year & next, so now you have medium sized companies & uptake is spreading. Decathlon now have their own brand MGU for commuter bikes and I think both commuter and trekking bikes like this version of the Nicolai will see the greatest take up first. Emtbs are a cutthroat world right now with new entries like DJI and ZF jostling for space with the established Brose, Bosch, Yamaha Bafang etc. so that world is a tougher sell with the niche high price of the Pinion. It's not in Sram or Shimano's interest to come out with a derailleur killer.

    Everything is funny until you find out it's 28 kg... it's extremely heavy. What's so heavy on this bike? Motor unit or frame?

      @1970madre weight is problem. Handling 28 kg thing could be problem for lot of people. Roof rack is designed for 20 kg (many ebikes without battery can do that)

      Weight is relative. Dirt bikes weigh 200 lbs and are still fun to ride on tight trails. Its all what you’re used to and your expectations.

    Glad you removed the rack. It just negates all the unsprung weight gains from removing the rear mech and cassette.
