to be honest, id choose a totally different brand from canyon with all the issues they are having with various models recently, a lot have been recalled. most the canyons on website that say 'coming soon' or 'out of stock' are on hold due to mechanical issues and factory faults.
Rich a few months ago the "is this the best EMTB" episode yall had on was a good seller for the spectral ON, which i ended up buying 2 of them giving canyon 11k usd. now im here watching you pushing another canyon. Its good to see youre able to ride your bike bro. For me, Ill have to wait 6 months (hopefully) before I can use my bike, most likely with a smaller battery than the one I paid for. So what would you choose, 300 dollars cash or 450 in canyon voucher for the inconvenience?
For me the underdog bike is more than enough. I have tried new bikes costing 3 times more but I still prefer the feel of my 2018 bike. I barely noticed an improvement from a set of Kashima coated Fox forks compared to my Suntour Aion ones. The only things I'd like to change right now are a bigger rear rotor and a bigger battery as 500wh is a little limiting. Maybe the latest Bosch motor would be nice too, but there is still plenty of power in a Yamaha PW-X. It's just a little short on overrun. I'd need to find a really good deal to justify an upgrade though. The performance difference is so small in a non competitive environment.
I have the Torque ON...great bike until Canyon told thousands of us to stop riding them and throw away the battery before it explodes...that was in November, they said we will have a solution in February...4 months off the bike is too long and I doubt we will even be riding in February.
Haha, my main bike is now a 2021 Orbea Wild with custom upgrades from the previous owner. He made a killer Enduro out of it, new shocks, more travel, better brakes, better wheels, better tires, new carbon handlebar... The geo might not be "recent" but that bike rides like a dream and gives confidence. I don't care that the frame and motor is from '21. Best bike I've ever had!
I don't get it - why is Canyon-sponsored EMBN making a video featuring the Canyon Strive:ON and saying "the bikes are available with either a 625 or 750Wh battery" when none are on sale, and haven't been for several weeks. Website says "coming soon" and presumably when they reappear, it will be a 2025 model with Bosch Gen5, and no Race edition motor. 🤷♂
My same thinking….Probably because they realized than being blocked in the sale of all the EP801 equipped bikes of their line ( battery problem) they need to try to sell again this old version…
1. This video was probably filmed a good number of weeks ago... 2. Canyon are still a channel sponsor - and EMBN have two bikes on their feet suitable for this kind of comparison... ie. it doesn't really matter which bikes they are riding, just that they are two of the same model in different specifications/price points.
The one thing I agree with is the derailuer set up. I switched from mechanical to wireless and back to mechanical! I can buy 2 sram xo derailuers for the price of 1 sram wireless. And that’s not the x type!! It’s good to see a dedicated XC guy doing e bike content! Especially on real world situations!
Smashing laps around FoD on my Rail 5, I have to say that I didn't notice much of a difference swapping out the Zeb Ultimate to Domain (had to move the zebs onto my giga build). Likewise, with drivetrain components, dropping down to a Shimano 10x with Ali Express 11-51T cassettes from an Eagle 12x just saved me a shedload of money in the end. When it gets launched into the scenery, budget builds typically have less remorse
@@davinci69 but neither bike had the tyres they are supplied with, maybe that's the answer, factory tyres. The tyres were too big of a factor in this comparison
Once you get over the speed thing you realise the distance to effort ratio is more beneficial. 1250w bike and yeah its 35 mph but I would rather go 60 miles at 15 mph than 20 miles at 30 mph...
I ride a std giant stance e+ and was thinking of upgrading but then got my bike serviced and now it feels great and does what I need of it and most of all have a lot of run and want to go riding.
I recently bought a premium build emtb.... xtr, fox factory, etc, ....I can't tell the difference from my previous bike which was considerably less expensive
I'm surely an Underdog. Despite the fact, that I changed the Code R Brakes for Formula Cura 4 with longer "Curalover" leavers. But when it comes to the fork, I decided even to step down the ladder and changed my 38" ZEB select for a 36" Marzocchi Z1 just because it is driven by a Coil. 😊 Same play at the rear: Coil Fox shock.
So the real question is are manufacturers putting the money where it’s really wanted? For me NO! I’d much rather manufactures put an affordable drivetrain on with a basic dropper with a medium to higher spec suspension and GOOD brakes!!! Rather than manufactures putting very very expensive consumable parts on that’s just going to cost me 1000s to replace! And for the love of god please will manufactures putting very tyres on that’s have decent side walls!!! This weight saving bs for e-bikes is pathetic! Lol
I owned a StriveON underdog for just less than 18 months, and was disappointed with the quality. It rode incredibly and was a brilliant bike, but not without its issues… New rear triangle, new front triangle, new battery clip… I was scared to ride it because I was constantly worried it was going to fall to pieces
@@cheeeeeeeef because it doesnt matter. In enduro weight wont make the big difference. A better fork or a sturdier frame is more important than saving 500g
I got lured into buying a canyon with a dodgy battery thanks to your reviews, funny how you have nothing to say about that but I’m guessing you don’t want to bite the hand that feeds you
my thoughts exactly. more to come yet as well with the torque:on when everyone realises their rear break cable rubs through the chainstay and creates a hole 👀
Update today, they will have a solution in February... they are leaving it wide open to turn around in February and say the solution is we will send you a new battery...will we get that in Feb....doubt it.
@@markjordan7412 i had the email 3 days ago, you forgot to mention the partial refund of bike price. my torque:on cf9 was £6999 and refund is £270 😅 its gonna cost me more in therapists with not being able to ride over holiday period. i think most people are on their 2nd/3rd replacement battery already as well.
@dodgymtbknee I've the very same 😭 I'm gonna try for a full refund, this violates our consumer rights apparently.. just looking for a similar spec alternative.
The lower spec bike will do pretty much everything and more the mere mortal needs and saving a ton of cash in the process.....let face it most of us are not pro rides or anywhere near.
" just as FAST" ? Going fast is not always a main criteria for buying a bike . it will be, to young adrenaline junkies but after a certain age you will become more focused on which bike has the best brakes .😂

Underdog all the way for me! I've had one for 7 months and it's been an amazing bike!

For the average punter, just put the quality tyres on the underdog bike and you're all set. Most people don't set up their suspension properly anyway!
Sounds like upgrade the underdog with better brakes and tyres to give a near equal ride at far less mulla?

Aren't the Canyon brand e-bikes currently not useable due to their battery issues (cracked cases)???
90% of them, anything with the EP801 motor are not rideable...these have the Bosch
Tbf tho that's a battery issue not a brand issue
