That's how the Spurs fooled the NBA. They thought its always Tim and Tony. But down the wire, it has always been Manu. Also, most of the time, its the Spurs 2nd unit who makes the lead. Manu was able to make other players be efficient like Malik Rose. It was in 2014 where I saw Manu not being a scorer but merely a play maker because it was not his role anymore. His role at that time was to train the younger players. However, in the finals, it showed that they needed him to do what he has done in his entire stay in the Spurs, that is to make the right play down the wire.
I was born and raised a Lakers fan (California, Los Angeles native) but man …. I remember me and my dad, Rest In Peace, scrambling to watch the spurs to see Manu tee off. An amazing player , unique to himself , exciting and unpredictable, everything good basketball should be. I used to let my left hand float after a jumper just to feel a bit like Ginobili. Bballbreakdown said it best, if Manu didn't play in the Spurs team orientated offense and was given the minutes and touches of an NBA star he would have put up super star numbers no doubt. Its kinda sad to see the Spurs dynasty finally come to an end tbh
Mordecai’s Mopstick been going to forum since '75, saw Gail Goodrich and CAP before you were born! Was season tix holder for years, better check yourself!
He was a franchise player in disguise. He won at every level, in Europe, World Championship, Olympics and with the Spurs. He was a basketball genius and I am not using that word lightly. His motor skills and creativity added novel ways of scoring to the game. He played passes no one else saw and tried before. He had limitless self confidence and had this fearlessness that came with his high destiny gut. It shows in his titles not necessarily in his numbers. He was completely unique in a way few players are.
He is my favorite player of all time, over MJ and any other greats. It's not only about numbers and impact, it's also about the attitude and sacrifice to win games. Thank you Andy for making this video
Manu to me was an interesting player. He was a guy who spent time in Europe, so you would think that he'd be known for three point shooting and a solid passer, but his style was like a streetballer that just did such a good job of improvising...yet was enough of a team player that he didn't rely on street ball all the time. A Hall of Famer, but a paradox in describing his playing style.
If you've ever watched videos of the playoffs when Manu was in his prime, you know how good he is...and even late in his career when he'd lost a step he may not have been putting up the numbers he once did but he was still more valuable and contributed more to winning than a jamal crawford or lou williams
Manu was a glue guy, a player you needed that was willing to do all of the dirty work. The things no one else was willing to do. He will definitely be in the hall of fame.
Manu is my favorite NBA players of all time. He gave me a love of basketball. After watching him for 16 years, I am so sad that he retired. He'll make the Hall of Fame first ballot.
Could you look into Derek Ervin Smith’s NBA Career. His career was so motivational until he started dealing with injuries and died in 1994 as the assistant coach of the Bullets at the age of 34
I remember an interview from a certain player when asked who he thought was harder to guard: Kobe or Ginobili. To put it in perspective, Kobe was hard to guard because he always put up tough shots even on the greatest of defense. But Ginobili brought up unpredictable play styles which also made him difficult to guard every night. That is why Manu will also be a respectable SG in the history of the NBA.
Back then Manu was harder to guard. The passing ability of Manu is far superior than Kobe. Just ask Tayshaun Prince... He shut down Kobe and ended Miller's career in 2004 but got crushed by Manu in 2005.
passing a Basketball between the legs of players I could not believe. Blocked shot from behind a player getting ready to shoot I actually saw do the limb leaning backwards to keep from committing a foul. Unbelievable. And This NBA organization doesn’t respect and recognize a player of this caliber not to mention NO props for POP. Head Coach with five rings Olympian coach Manu with GOLD. BEAT USA TEAM and was not recognized. SHAME NBA. And that’s the way I see it and many others. 🏀🏀✅✅🌺🌺🌺🏆🏆🏆💕💕❤️
@Erik Lerström WB is not even worth it of that mvp bcoz there's a guy next to him averaging almost the same stats and has better record and stats. It is just the narrative of KD leaving that make him mvp.
I actually agreed with the Nash MVP selections, because he increased the Suns winning percentage substantially, and 2005-2006 he was an absolute monster of a PG, over everybody. But I DEFinitely agree Kobe should've got it many more times over. And Jamal Crawford over Manu a was trash decision. Also, Rookie of the year should've gone to Donovan Mitchell hands down.
@@stevengiron8781 kobe may have deserved more MVP, but during his prime which MVP was not well deserved? Because giving more MVP to kobe means that some MVP during the 00's Era did not deserve it which was not the case imo
Kevin McHale. McHale would have been a 30 ppg guy on almost any other team. The four years he started(85-86 to 88-89), he averaged 23 ppg as the Celtics' number 2 scoring option. The guy had an 8'0 wing span. The called the paint "The Torture Chamber" when he was in it, and his low post scoring is only rivaled by Olajuwon.
Santiago James bro find one reliable source in google and I'll believe you. The 8 feet wingspan is an exaggeration and nothing more. Just ask yourself how did McHale have an 8 feet wingspan when Mo bamba 7'10 wingspan is the most the NBA had recorded?
In my humble opinion, a lot of people do not realize the reason why Manu played the "Six-man". Manu is essentially the play maker in his rotation/line (in a Hockey sense). And folks should note that Spurs always finish the fight with the Big Three. Pop always want at least Manu or Tony to be on point whenever they play. Unless they destroyed their foe in that partiuclar game and anything goes afterward.
it's because being a 6th man means less salary, less incomes, less publicity. it's difficult to ask someone to give up his money for the sake of the rest of the team. do you accept less money for the sake of the company?
And because pop and RC Buford knew that Manu would embrace the "team concept and sacrifice" more than Tony (especially in his stint with the Argentinian basketball team), he was the one who was asked to come off the bench. As Pop has said, if Manu was not ok with it, then he would definitely start. But boy he did agree to come off the bench, allowing team culture and selflessness to be the norm for the spurs.
Tbh, Imma miss the old San Antonio. No more Tim, Parker, Ginobili, Robinson, hell even Kawhi lmao. But nothing last forever. Well their legacy. Legends!
@@vivanlosgatoslomejor I mean that isnt as much a flop as it is a finesse and taking advantage of the rules. harden basicly built his career on those pull up 3 foul calls lol
I was going to say, seeing Harden getting the wrong end of a flop is so satisfying to see knowing he'd become the king of bullshit calls going his way. 6:19 was pretty satisfying to watch too.
Being from Austin, 6’5 and a lifelong Spurs fan, I took the Eurostep from Manu and it changed my entire slashing career. The 2000s spurs were the last glimpse of a REAL BASKETBALL team and Manu made it chaotically beautiful. He was poetry in motion. There will never be another. Seve Ballesteros in golf and Manu in basketball!!
Manu was my favorite player after Kobe. He did everything out there, shoot threes, midrange, drive, dunk, pass, steal, block shots in big moments, great passes, clutch as hell, underrated. He could score 30 points if he wanted to every night but he was very team oriented. none of the spurs stats impress you like tony parker, duncan or ginobili but when you put them together and add a defensive team, those 19 points are more like 25. Manu was one of the most talented and entertaining players to watch. He definitely was one of the best guards in the nba and internationally but he didnt have to prove it with stats you could see the talent and winning plays he made to know this
Ginobili was the best basketball player I ever watched, he was the physical embodiment of the word basketball. Ginobili is at the level of Lebron Kobe Jordan in basketball history. He's an Olympic champion who beat the USA. His quality was at least as effective as Jordan, maybe even better than Jordan.
Finally, i was expecting this. I always watch your videos, and was wondering if you were going to make something about him. Thank you, i'm from Argentina. Manu was my childhood hero, i'll never forget my reaction when he made that crazy shot against Serbia, the team that robbed us two years prior in Indianapolis. Hard to top that feeling.
Thank you for this video, people always google stats to make their points, while never truly watching the guy and what he sacrificed for the betterment of the team, he was truly amazing.
A shame he didn't win more 6MOY (while contemporary folks like Jamal Crawford and Lou Williams have multiples), and yes he should have won that 2005 FMVP... I also believe that he was one of the more accomplished Euroleague players ever, too, accolades wise... Another great video 😃
Thanks for always hitting us with great videos, this channel is like watching a "classic sports" type channel. Much appreciated & please keep up the great content
He’s my favorite player , as a Latino jaja He represents the style and “los huevos” that we put into the game , just, he’s what a Latin plays like, passion passion and passion
Manu was so good that I hated him, haha! As a Mavs fan, he killed my buzz many times. People talk about Harden’s bogus step back 3-point shot, but Ginobili had such a quick, tight release, that he could practically get his shot off from anywhere on the court. I’ll always remember when he was drafted, I was so pissed! I knew how good this guy was going to be in the NBA and I couldn’t stand that the Spurs were the ones getting him, haha!
Como argentino, es un orgullo. Como deportista, un ejemplo. He´s unique, the real competitor and the basketball will miss him!! I miss him already. Muy buen resumen de su carrera, rendimientos y valoración, Andy Hoops!!
I'd go as far as to put him in my top 50 all-time. Fantastic player who had an unorthodox style of play that confused defenses. I think one thing that people don't mention very often is that Manu never really had any weaknesses. He could score from anywhere, was a decent rebounder and an amazing passer, played solid defense, and had as much heart as Kobe and Jordan. Dude was truly an insanely skilled player that frustrated me to no end in some Lakers-Spurs games in the past. It's a bittersweet retirement, as I want him to enjoy retired life, but I still want to see him tear it up on the court. Farewell, Manu.
Great video with very well explained true facts As a Spurs fan i loved to watch him and i think he is well underappreciated and underrated a true legend for the Spurs, Argentina and the european basketball Thx for the appreciation of a great player Andy keep up the good content mate
Most analysts (fox and espn) like stephen A. say he is a 1st ballot hof. so there you go andy. one thing you forgot to mention is one way to find out if someone is a hof, is that you cannot tell the history of basketball without him. well, manu changed the history with that big 3, let alone the eurostep, even wade said that he copied that from manu.
Jose he is a Hall of Famer and will get in. Not sure he be an automatic 1st ballot/1st year selection though. Being probably the best "6th man" in NBA History(even though Manu started alot especially at end of Duncan's career)will be the only thing holding him back among NBA HOF voters.
And Jose Stephen A is a NBA Centric (even though he also comments on the NFL and sometimes MLB Baseball)is not an "Analyst." He really a Commentator though. Analyst term is used too much by the media on both News and Sports Channels alike these days IMO.
@AmericanGiant100 he is widely regarded as the best sixth man of all time, coming from Nick wright and skip bayless. Most real nba analysts and voters like Zach Lowe assure he is going to be there although the numbers are not there. Well Stephen A is an analyst, he actually knows basketball, since he is a journalists and covered the nba for decades. unlike chris carter that is an ex nfl player trying to be an analyst making stupid points about a sport he doesn't know shit about.
@shawn kemp, jesus dude. tony kukoc? really? that guy is a joke compared to manu. Actually i disliked manu a lot but he was so valuable in the clutch that i could even make the argument that he is one of the top 10 clutch performers of all time in the playoffs. comparing tony kukoc to manu is like me saying that robert horry is better than charles barkley because he has 8 rings. gtfo out of here dude. go watch some pokemon or something lmao.
I been following the NBA since the early 1980's. You sound like a Ginobili fan. I am not disagreeing that he is a Hall of Famer. I only meant to say not sure he an automatic lock 1st ballot ie. Kobe or Duncan who played in his era of the early 2000's. Jose if you follow say the NFL or MLB some of their HOF voters do hold against a player who was a brilliant "specialist." In MLB for example, the voters have overlooked great careers for specialists such as the lack of DH players in MLB Hall of Fame i.e Edgar Martinez or the NFL with punters and kickers i.e Ray Guy. Spending much of his career as a 6th man aka "Specialist" on the Spurs Mini Dynasty and not having lights out numbers is what might cost him as a 1st ballot HOF. Yes I am fully aware of the Euro Step. Still stand by my point he will get in but maybe not the lock on the 1st time on the ballot as some commentators and analysts are saying. Geez calm down lol.
Thank you so much for this. Manu Ginobili is a personal hero and role model of mine. I was devastated when he retired, even if it was obviously coming soon. This video was a perfect send-off for me. I respect your opinion on all of your videos and I think this video was very honest. I really appreciate you taking time to make this video and I will support you in every way I can.
He is a first ballot for sure! He did the impossible, he won a gold for a third world country that spends the little money they get into soccer. Compared to the NBA or Europe, basketball is an amateur sport in Argentina. Put Manu in the Knicks instead of Melo and he would be putting 25 a night and the Knicks would have had a chance to win for real. He is a star and a winner! He did what he had to do to give his city multiple championships, he is a BEAST
Don´t think the fact that Argentina is a third world country matter, how many european countries have won basketball olympic gold? None. What makes it special is the raw talent that team and specialy Ginobili had without all the attention that basketball gets in the US.
guido rodriguez yes, but an European country will win it eventually (in 200 years) but never a South American one, more likely to be Nigeria before them (at least they have strong and fast people), Argentina will disappear from the basketball scene forever
zama I know, I said compared to the NBA. The average salary in the league is lower than the WNBA and it is not the second sport in popularity, Tennis and Rugby are more popular,
no way. i'm from Argentina and tennis and rugby are high class exclusive sports. nobody go to see rugby. rugby? really? it's an amateur sport. tennis is just important on Davis Cup rounds, one weekend every three months, and the Buenos Aires ATP, a week every year. the basketball league got full courts every game every day the full year. the only competition in popularity against basket in Argentina is the Car Racing, Turismo Carretera, TC2000, that things, but it's difficult to call it "sport" on popularity, attendance, quantity of players, media coverage and trascendence, basket is by far the second sport of the country. and if you born at Bahía Blanca (like Ginobili) or Mar del Plata, basket is the first option
My Uncle played against him and he said"The Greatest SG ever" not just the greatest Argentinian the Greatest SG ever WOW not to mention beating the US in 2004 with Rookie Bron Wade and Melo
Manu should be in the HOF off of his selflessness alone. He could have easily had his own team and been a superstar. But he choose team basketball instead of individual accolades. 👍🏽
Ginobili was a beast he killed my Pistons in game 7 of the 05 finals i wanted to smash my TV. He couldve started for any team in the league easy but came off the bench to help the team win.
Manu. Whoever had the pleasure of watching you and your team play will miss MAGIC MANU as a Team Player and Players at the best there WAS. Great Basketball Ball. Missed Basketball 🏀 of Decades Passed ✅🏀💕💕🛑✅🌺🌺🌺💕💕💕💕
My favorite player since Day 1. I got almost all his Jerseys (except the Fiesta one) as well as his Argentina one. Wish i could play just as good as him even though i do play just like him.hahaha GSG and Gracias Manu for everything you've given to not only my hometown Team, but to the NBA Community as well. Cheers from Japan.🙌🏀🗾
Me too. There will always be that big 3 to remember, but parker will NEVER be in the company of timmy & manu as far as loyalty is concern. Many spurs fan dont know much that Duncan & Ginobili cut their salaries twice by more than 50%(almost a 50 by duncan on the 2nd cut), while parker soared up to his very last days as a spur, admitted now that it is he that he wants out & more playing time. He sucks.
By flopping he also made winning plays, like the game winning play against the Nuggets when Melo charged to the basket and collided with Manu, who got the offensive foul. If the refs didn't called that, Nuggets would've won the game because Anthony made the basket. He not only made game winning plays by flopping. But he also stopped a rivals momentum with those plays. He did things that no other player ever did. In the NBA, this spoken rule of thoughness existed in that time where players had to put their bodies on the line when playing offense, then Nash became an All Star and rules changed giving more freedom to the ball handler, and Manu had the presence of mind to challenge those rules and put his body through some rough contact in the deffensive end. In Argentina we call that 'viveza criolla', wich in some words means 'adapting to the moment and doing something no one could imagine by being clever, cold blooded and reading the game'. Yes, this was more a curse than a blessing. I mean, no one wants to watch the biggest, strongest men in the world fall to the ground because a 6'2 dude ran into them... IN THE HALF COURT. But i believe that it happens because other players feel like flopping, meaning they want to add things to their arsenal, yet they don't have the BB IQ to make the play when it matters. You don't have to lure the play into your hands. The play will happen or it won't, yet it is up to you to understand when the moment is right, so you can quickly adapt and take action.
1:44 - 2:04 defines the argentinian way of life. I´m very proud to be born in the same country than Manu Ginobili and to see all the support that the world gives to the great argentinian players. hank you :). Greetings from Mendoza.
Fede Lopez Hey! Hope you’re doing great. I upload great nba content! Can you hit me with a sub and stay active? I will appreciate it alot! Thanks! Wish you luck there
Underrated on D too. He was so chaotic and relentless the opposing team couldn't relax and made mistakes from sheer nervousness. No possession was safe. Spurs won 4 rings with him and he was the second best player on the team. And this was during Kobe, Shaq, Jackson era. Instant HoF inductee!
He could really be like james harden today if he was given a chance. I remember one of his game where he scores 52 or 50 against the suns with duncan and parker out and they only lost by 2 pts.
It does not matter he is come from bench, because at 4th quarter, at the clutch moment, he was on the court , more than that, he was taking the final shot or block opponent's final shot.
He was one of the best in the league play-to-play, just wasn't out there 40MPG. One of the best passers I've ever seen, could dunk on people, good from deep. He's in my top-20 all-time for 'most fun to watch'.
Main líne up guys are not those who start the game but those who are on court on the last minute. Manu was never a sixth man he was a first team man. LEGEND

Bballbreakdown said it best, if Manu didn't play in the Spurs team orientated offense and was given the minutes and touches of an NBA star he would have put up super star numbers no doubt. Its kinda sad to see the Spurs dynasty finally come to an end tbh

Manu was so good even in his older years.
His last season, he made 2 really clutch game winning shots, like within a week. It was crazy!

Manu is my favorite NBA player all time... I fell in love with the game after watching him... True legend
been his fan since 2003.. hes just too fun to watch
You forgot to mention when he smacked a bat during a game
Shawn Kemp hell naw he learned after those shots
He was silver medal whit the national team in the FMB in 2002.
🤣🤣🤣🤣
He is my favorite player of all time, over MJ and any other greats. It's not only about numbers and impact, it's also about the attitude and sacrifice to win games. Thank you Andy for making this video
Manu to me was an interesting player. He was a guy who spent time in Europe, so you would think that he'd be known for three point shooting and a solid passer, but his style was like a streetballer that just did such a good job of improvising...yet was enough of a team player that he didn't rely on street ball all the time. A Hall of Famer, but a paradox in describing his playing style.
Look for some of his highlights from when he played in Europe.
I have a saying maybe others too BullyBall. He bullied the best with plays that are unbelievable. Are. Still remembered 🏀🏀🤩🤩🤩💕💕
he is more of the Latin America basketball school
If you've ever watched videos of the playoffs when Manu was in his prime, you know how good he is...and even late in his career when he'd lost a step he may not have been putting up the numbers he once did but he was still more valuable and contributed more to winning than a jamal crawford or lou williams
Lol I got the privilege of watching him kick my teams ass live too many times to remember! He was a stone cold killer...
Yooooo I’m early af. And manu was an amazing player and he is a hall of famer

Manu is my favorite NBA players of all time. He gave me a love of basketball. After watching him for 16 years, I am so sad that he retired. He'll make the Hall of Fame first ballot.
One of my favorites.
Could you look into Derek Ervin Smith’s NBA Career. His career was so motivational until he started dealing with injuries and died in 1994 as the assistant coach of the Bullets at the age of 34
I've actually never heard of him tbh
1996
@@AndyHoops just looking him up his son Nolan was apart of 2010 Duke and he died from an Heart attack
Dude he even dunked on MJ🔥
I remember an interview from a certain player when asked who he thought was harder to guard: Kobe or Ginobili. To put it in perspective, Kobe was hard to guard because he always put up tough shots even on the greatest of defense. But Ginobili brought up unpredictable play styles which also made him difficult to guard every night. That is why Manu will also be a respectable SG in the history of the NBA.
That certain player...You mean Raja Bell?
Back then Manu was harder to guard. The passing ability of Manu is far superior than Kobe.
Just ask Tayshaun Prince...
He shut down Kobe and ended Miller's career in 2004 but got crushed by Manu in 2005.

LMAO how did Manu Ginobli only win one sixth man of the year award once.
Ikr.....how kobe only got 1 mvp.....Steve Nash over Kobe? Jamal Crawford over Manu? The greats at that time got no love.
@Erik Lerström WB is not even worth it of that mvp bcoz there's a guy next to him averaging almost the same stats and has better record and stats. It is just the narrative of KD leaving that make him mvp.
@@lne9070 Steve Nash is a great bruh
This guy was great. I loved watching him play. He was so talented and fearless
Best 6th man of all time.
Santiago James Mchale doesn't have an 8foot wingspan. No nba player drafted had recorded an 8.
@@josejoaquinvalerio6670 Just Google Kevin McHale wingspan and get back to me.
Santiago James bro find one reliable source in google and I'll believe you. The 8 feet wingspan is an exaggeration and nothing more. Just ask yourself how did McHale have an 8 feet wingspan when Mo bamba 7'10 wingspan is the most the NBA had recorded?
4 rings.
Against Pistons, he was the mvp.
The perfect example of why stats are only PART of the story
Manu's role in the Spurs is similar to the role of Iggy in the current warriors super team.
And that’s what “MANU DO” As its what he’s known to say to POP 🤩🤩✅🏀

One of my all time favorite players next to Jordan, Pippen, Duncan, David Robinson, Nowitzki, Bryant and Lebron
Manu is a living legend. The ultimate TEAM player.
Manu may arguably the best player of his time, but he is definitely one of the SMARTEST player ever in this game! Love Manu!
Ginobili is a master at his craft, given that he didn't play as many minutes but opposing players knew they had their hands full going against him.
Finally a video about Manu! Respect
Dude was 2nd or third fiddle but he led the bench when the starters were out. He also would take over games while on the court with starters.
Honestly, I've just discovered how great Manu is. He's so exciting to watch!
Manu ginosebleed was favorite Spurs player besides kiwi Leonard
If Leonard comes back to his level you won't be calling him kiwi no more
Fuck that soft bastard...
What do you call Tim Duncan?

Manu Ginohillbilly legend !! Kiwi Leonard traitor

Manu was so good that I hated him, haha! As a Mavs fan, he killed my buzz many times. People talk about Harden’s bogus step back 3-point shot, but Ginobili had such a quick, tight release, that he could practically get his shot off from anywhere on the court. I’ll always remember when he was drafted, I was so pissed! I knew how good this guy was going to be in the NBA and I couldn’t stand that the Spurs were the ones getting him, haha!
guess you were ahead of your time in recognizing greatness..
@@jendoi for once, haha!

Great video with very well explained true facts
As a Spurs fan i loved to watch him and i think he is well underappreciated and underrated a true legend for the Spurs, Argentina and the european basketball
Thx for the appreciation of a great player Andy keep up the good content mate
Geez calm down lol.
manu is a prime example of “stats dont show everythng” unless you’ve watch him play, his numbers only tell half the story...
His Stats needs to include Top players including Kobe Bron Shaq Melo and on and on. Each of those players gave him Big Time Props.

None. What makes it special is the raw talent that team and specialy Ginobili had without all the attention that basketball gets in the US.
guido rodriguez yes, but an European country will win it eventually (in 200 years) but never a South American one, more likely to be Nigeria before them (at least they have strong and fast people), Argentina will disappear from the basketball scene forever
basket is the second sport in Argentina, and it's a professional sport, with a league of 50 years of history
zama I know, I said compared to the NBA. The average salary in the league is lower than the WNBA and it is not the second sport in popularity, Tennis and Rugby are more popular,
no way. i'm from Argentina and tennis and rugby are high class exclusive sports. nobody go to see rugby. rugby? really? it's an amateur sport. tennis is just important on Davis Cup rounds, one weekend every three months, and the Buenos Aires ATP, a week every year. the basketball league got full courts every game every day the full year. the only competition in popularity against basket in Argentina is the Car Racing, Turismo Carretera, TC2000, that things, but it's difficult to call it "sport"
on popularity, attendance, quantity of players, media coverage and trascendence, basket is by far the second sport of the country. and if you born at Bahía Blanca (like Ginobili) or Mar del Plata, basket is the first option
Been waiting for you to make a video of Ginobili!! Great video. Vamos Ginobili!! My favorite player of all time!

Manu you embody what the team player is supposed to be G.O.A.T
Man I’m going to miss Ginobili
Weird knowing that non of the big 3 members will be wearing a spurs uniform anymore
