    This video needed to happen!! I'm tired of the "guntuber" experts talkin smack about a wonderful firearm from one of the best 1911 manufactures to grace our planet. The prodigy is an amazing firearm. I own the 5" and have recommended it to everyone I know. I've taken the time, as a gunsmith, to work through minor items that every 1911 shares at some level and have had great success. If you need a box gun buy a non-1911. 1911s are in need of regular care and basic maintenance, regardless of the manufacturer. Thank you for doing this video and showing the truths.

      Not true. My Atlas hasn’t needed a single thing out of the bag.. sure if your comparison is cheap 1911s they all have problems but a perfected 2011 from Atlas, Nighthawk, TTI will run thousands of rounds with nothing but a little lube.

      Springfield makes some of the most sub par 1911s on the market Tisas literally makes better ones for half the price but you are correct if you buy a cheap 1911 they will eventually need some tuning and care if you buy a high quality 1911 it will need nothing more than oil and springs replaced at the required intervals

      Do you happen to know what shoukd be replaced on it. I also have the 5" model and habe heard that it has "non machined" parts that need replaced in less than 4000 rounds. Can I get your opinion?

    • @ronsauntman5927
      @ronsauntman5927 Рік тому

      @@devonjones4648 Hello sir, this ultimately boils down to personnel choice. I polished the feed lips on the magazines for more efficient feed and moved to a 10 lb guide rod spring. In addition, 10-8 Performance has some upgrade parts that have been made for the Prodigy, its a good source. If you are looking to replace other parts, check the Wilson Combat "bullet proof" parts. These are expensive but are truly the best manufactured. Ultimately, 1000 rnds are needed for the minimum break in period, polishing internals, and some minor upgrades to parts make all the difference.

    Great video. I only have about 300 rounds through mine so far and had the same failure to feed as you and I was cowboying a little with it so I am not blaiming the awesome prodigy. I love this pistol so far and the more you shoot it and / or manual cycle it and keep it lubed the smoother the slide gets. Along side my 300 rounds I have 400 cycles dry firing it with my Mantis Laser Academy and Mantis x10. Keep the great content coming.

    I bought the 4.25 version of this gun, went through 200 rounds with no issues but noticeable disconnector friction against the slide. I didn’t do much research before buying the gun but during the waiting period I started watching videos and was getting worried. I bought Staccato mags and used them from the first shot based on some of the advice from Guntubers. I’ve had the Ronin from SA previously and loved it so not a hater. I ultimately took the gun to a local high end custom 1911 builder to get their reliability tuning package, to have the MIM parts replaced and to get DLC applied. They told me they’d already had 5 other Prodigys in for work. So, take all that for what it’s worth. I didnt really NEED the work but I wanted to be sure I’ll be totally happy with the pistol long term.

    I'm glad to see a positive review of this gun that (I assume) wasn't bought and paid for, or (again I assume) the gun wasn't cherry picked by Springfield. (of course it's possible it was cherry picked, but benefit of the doubt is given) Hopefully, the sales of this gun will bring the prices down on such guns. The performance of the Prodigy in other reviews was lackluster at best. Lets hope it turns around.

    I noticed that the gun started with the standard green fiber optic front sight at the start of the video, but at the end of the video, it has red.
    Not claiming it to be a different gun, but I am suspecting it fell off at some point, cause when I put over a 1000 rounds through mine, it also came loose. As did the plate screws, which I never touched.
    What else was changed that wasn't mentioned in the video, if anything?

    A lot of the folks commenting clearly don't realize that Springfield literally owns and runs this channel, LOL. Armory Life is an unbranded channel. All the reviews are for Springfield products or accessories that work with SA products. So this is not some unbiased review like you guys think 😂.
    Having said the above, I own the 4.25. Had some kinks but I sent it in to Springfield and they worked them out. Gun is gtg. The Duramags are cheap ($35 at my LGS) and perform accordingly. They don't drop cleanly and contributed to some of my initial issues. Would not recommend.
