Evening Jamie. I did make it to Telford and the Airfix Lysander is a thing of beauty. The pilot has to be one of the best representations in this scale. Sadly didn’t take a picture of the whole sprue, so can’t answer the ladder question.
Excellent, considered review of the releases. Airfix will never please everyone all of the time, but having stuck their plastic together for over 50 years I am more than happy with their releases even if some don't 'float my boat'. There was a good interview with Dale Luckhurst yesterday in which he addressed the QC issues, his frustration was obvious and they are making efforts to resolve the problem. In the same vein, Airfix Customer Services have been excellent and in my experience do their utmost to help us consumers. Lysander pre-ordered!
I think its fair to say, That when Airfix ask what would you like to see. The Lysander, in any scale is a very common choice. Its certainly up there on my list, along with a Scout/Wasp.
Nice brief mate. I’m absolutely staggered that they’ve not upscaled their 1/72 Spey Phantom. Ur as you said; there’s a spreadsheet somewhere l; would we all live a peek at that!
fantastic releases. Really didn't see the Lysander coming it came straight out of left field and is a fantastic subject. Really pleased to see Airfix do it. Well done Airfix :)
What about a 1/48 Lockheed Hudson, no company doing it now. Hasn’t been around for a long time. A major WWII player. Been totally forgotten about. A good looking and interesting Bomber and patrol aircraft. Served with RAF, RAAF, RNZAF, USAAF, USN and many others. This aircraft needs to be recognised. Plenty examples on display in the world in museums including a flying one in Australia. Played a roll in most theatre’s of WWII. Don’t forget the Hudson. We need this aircraft. Cheers mate 🍻
Wot No 1/24 TSR.2 - I'm writing to my MP - Seriously some people need to get a life - I'll make do with the Heller 1/48 Jaguar for the time being! Going to get the HC.4 Junglie sadly not the Lysander, not my bag, but it looks lovely - well done Airfix Be patient Jamie I am sure you shall return to Telford one year.
Nice video Jamie thank you. I really like you informed, experienced, humourous and concise approach. I also like what Airfix does in terms of these announcements as it gets everybody talking about them. I am excited by the Lizzie. My only thought is what do with the Eduard re-boxed one that I bought that I bought a while back. Hey ho, it is only money 😊.
I think there are a few with the Eduard rebox in their stash. I pulled mine out and looked at the decal options - what do you know - SEAC markings as well as a spy taxi option. Now if the ladder and long range tank are on the sprues...hmmm
Brilliant surprise this, great to see. For me the biggest missed opportunity Airfix have right now that I don’t really see mentioned is a 1/48 Hawker Typhoon. They’ve done it in 1/72, and unlike the other RAF fighter types from WW2 they wouldn’t really have a competitor. Eduard have smashed the Tempest out of the park, Arma have done the same with the Hurricane, and it’s hard to see past Tamiya/Eduard for most marks of Spitfire- but the only competition out there for the Typhoon would be the Hasegawa kit, which is a quarter century old now. Anyway, ramble over- nice update, can’t wait to see your Gulf Sea King!
The main thing that struck me with the Lysander is the flaps and slats option. Most images I have of the Lysander show them down, but the Eduard/Gavia doesn`t have this option. I have two Eduard and an SBS engine, but I still might get the Airfix.
Lysander is overdue! I built the Eduard-Gavia kit, very nice😊 Now, I'm a Yank & see this as a desirable addition BUT... Airfix I think needs to add some foundational 48th kits like bombers. I know HK is doing that but do any of us really think tariffs etc aren't coming for Chinese manufacturing?...
1/48 Lysander was pleasant surprise. This one has been missing from the WWII aircraft range and will complement the Tamiya Strock nicely. I did built a Eduard Redbox version many years ago but I am sure that the Airfix kit will be far superior.
Hey Jamie nice video - great releases from Airfix - I’m flying over to Telford in the morning, really looking forward to it, shame you can’t make it buddy, cheers Liam.
Best reaction video on the Lysander that I have watched so far, Jamie. Canadian Spitfire pilot, Dave Hadfield has three videos of Lysander, '416' that are worth a watch. We should not mind the wait for new kit subjects as it gives time for improvements in design/manufacturing and the excitement in the anticipation. The only subject that I find a little odd in waiting this long for is a updated or a new tool; 1/32 Tamiya F-4E, EJ. Despite having two E nose spare sprue parts to convert J kits, I have made a silicone mold for casting noses, 4 to date. It appears that Tamiya are focused on 1/48.
I love surprises and I love the new Lysander model. I like the new Sea King variants. Yes, Airfix needs to go on doing these out-of-the-blue releases around Telford time, it adds to the fun and creates more excitement. Now if Airfix has a Lysander landing in Telford as an opening gambit, wouldn’t that be ultra cool? 😊
Hi Jamie, hope you're well. Airfix have had a fantastic week, with the Bristol Superfreighter Vintage classic earlier and now today's news! I'm more inclined to but this Sea King version than the first release, and I think this one looks incredible with 4 fantastic versions! The Lysander however is absolutely wonderful news! Looks a beautifully detailed model, which will hopefully go together well (the new tooled stuff generally does) and it opens up more versions as you said. I really hope people will give Airfix bashing a rest for a while now! Getting a bit fed up with all the negativity surrounding them lately. We want this, why don't they do that?! Give me a break!! Get a grip! You're never going to like everything, every manufacturer does. I think Airfix do really well considering the restraints they have to operate under or within, etc. I'm really looking forward to next year's releases and the future too. Look forward to your vid later mate! 👍 Hope the 12 (or is it 14!) conversion is going well. Take care 👍👊
Hi jamie, that's fantastic news on both kits. I, for one, will definitely preorder the Lysander. Yes, it's a pity they didn't do a new tool, hampden, but I'm sure it will come in time. Plus, I've preordered the sea king as I really do like the helicopter. cheers, Gary uk 🇬🇧
Pinger, Junglies and I've also heard I think Baggy, what are those nicknames about? 🤨🤔 Definitely need a Sea King! I'm ever so slightly (😉) excited about the Lysander! 😳😲😎
“Pinger” = Anti Submarine Warfare (ASW) as fitted with a sonar which went “Ping”. “Jungly” = Commando which stems from the Malaysian/Borneo days where the helicopters operated in the jungle. “Bagger” = Air Early Warning (AEW) where some older ASW helicopters were stripped and fitted with AEW radar that was mounted externally in a bag. Hope that helps.
@@captainmagenta899 Sure we would prefer 1/72 or 1/35 for diorama potential, but Airfix have some 1/76 (OO) and Revell have 1/87 (HO), and that is also great because you can then get track, buildings, accessories etc easily. Great for youngsters. If Airfix made the engines with a screw on chassis, Hornby could supply screw on replacements with motors. Joined up thinking.
Zero intrest in either to be honest....i dont build bigger than 1/72 nor do i build ww2.....and i have 1/72 sea kings already so even a 1/72 version of the sea king is out for me

Early war? A 1/48 Fairey Battle would be nice.

It does mean i can stop looking at my Eduard special edition Lysander quite so hungrily. Thankyou Airfix

Would really like to see the dirty pink Sea King! Put that on your list for this year!
Fantastic that they, ve done the Lysander Jamie, can't wait

Two releases with local interest for us here in Somerset!
The main thing that struck me with the Lysander is the flaps and slats option. Most images I have of the Lysander show them down, but the Eduard/Gavia doesn`t have this option. I have two Eduard and an SBS engine, but I still might get the Airfix.
There has always been something about the Lysander for me,so yeah I’ll be getting one for sure.
Thanks for the information ! One question: which version is it that you call 'crab yellow version' ?
Lysander is overdue!
I built the Eduard-Gavia kit, very nice😊

Delighted with the Lysander, great subject

Yeah, and unlike "Galaxy Quest", it could land in the car park safely!
@ 😜😁
Just wish someone would do these early British aircraft in 1/32 scale.
Hi Jamie, hope you're well.

Love that Lysander..
I'd have loved to have seen the SEAC markings in the box
Great choices by Airfix, both good subjects, both would make for a good diorama in varied situations if desired. Nice!

1/32 scale Phantom II?
In 1/24th scale the Lysander would be awesome. 1/48th, not so much for me.
That IS a big plane, got up close to the Lysander at Shuttleworth.
Can we have the Lysander in 24th scale to go with the latest Spitfire please ?
Great release, I will be getting one…. However, I hope Airfix don’t punch themselves in testes and ruin the new kit with QC issues
Sea King "rivets" - Is weathering more important than realism?

Thank you kindly, very much appreciated! 🤜🏻🤛🏻🍻
I wish someone would do a swordfish, long, long overdue, hint icm airfix eduard cheers Jamie.....
Why isn't there a cross-over between Hornby and Airfix? They're missing a trick there. No AIrfix Mallard? No AIrfix Flying Scotsman? Mystifying.
That would be chuffing great, though I'd be praying they did them in a proper scale and not the abomination that is OO.
