The Scale Modelling Cafe with Jamie Haggo
United Kingdom
Приєднався 18 лют 2022
Hello, and thank you for taking the time to check out my channel. I have been making scale model for many years and have enjoyed watching UA-cam modelling content for a long time so I thought it may be fun to join in and create my own channel!
I prefer aeroplanes however I have done some military vehicles in the past and my aim is to do again here from time to time, maybe the odd ship too. However the focus will be on aeroplanes. What I enjoy most is weathering and therefore I choose subjects that allow me to indulge my passion. I do have a few favourites though, Cold War Soviet jets, WW2 fighters, derelict and abandoned subjects and even some Post Apocalyptic machines from my imagination.
Thank you again for the interest. It's a cliche but please Like and Subscribe and of course, don't forget to hit that notification bell to be notified when the new videos come out.
Standby for Patreon, maybe, possibly, in the future, maybe...

How I get my models home, transporting models by air in a suitcase
Welcome to a video some of you have been asking for for a while, hopefully you will find it interesting and if you travel with models, or even post them if you sell them, quite useful.

Welcome to this Sprue Tour. Owing to me working overseas in a place with a less than reliable postal system (we don't even have an address yet at the new place) I have to wait until I come home and bring stuff back with me, hence this somewhat delayed Sprue Tour, but I hope it's worth it!

I love your model display! Where did you get those glass shelves from?
Ha ha.. It seems that the guys at MulberrySK didn't want to pay you the "mordida" you charge for advertising. I have built this Ha1112 on the 1/48 Tamiya kit, and the two-seater Ha1110 on a Hasegawa G-2 and it has fit perfectly on both. 30% small wheels? But do you really know what 30% is?? The Eduard kit looks very nice because of its rivets and dark plastic but it is totally inaccurate in its general shapes. The fuselage is too high. And all these mistakes have been repeated in their new 1/72 scale version.
Brilliant. Enjoy your break.
Hi Jamie. Glad you and the models arrived safely back home! 🙏 Simple but obviously effective. They both look gorgeous by the way! So excited to see the rest of the LF Spitfire and the JP builds. Enjoy your time at home mate. See you on the channel soon I hope! 😁 👍
Had cases that didn't survive KKIA/OERK, never mind the contents. I wasn't sure why until I saw a video of the handlers a few years ago; cleared that one up for me. Glad yours seem to be surviving. Enjoy your leave and season's greetings.
Thanks for sharing. Great idea🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩
Hello Jamie. In a previous video you mentioned that you might like to build an Eduard Albatros D.III because you wanted to try out some lozenge pattern decals. I replied with information to the effect that I'd never seen a D-III with that pre-printed fabric on the wings since the introduction of that pattern roughly coincided with the early D.V production runs. Well, I was just looking through Bruno Schmälling's "Jasta Colors, Volume 1" from Aeronaut Books and (Eureka!) there's three pages describing an Albatros D.III with 5-color lozenge on the upper and lower wings! It had a white vertical fin/rudder, horizontal stabilizer black w/two white stripes, and the entire fuselage and spinner were light purple or violet. It was an OAW-built D.III serial number 5155/17, but there were no serials on the tail nor a rigging & weight table on the port fuselage. It was flown by Lt. Franz Ray of Jagdstaffel 49 in the late Spring/early Summer of 1918. If you're interested in that one, let me know and perhaps we can figure out a way to get the documents/artwork to you.
😅That’s a relief! Some good tips there whatever the transportation occasion . Good job you have a good supply of IKEA Deltof cabinets as they have stopped making them 🙄🤦🏻♂️
Hey Jamie - i think you could’ve got both kits in the one big box. What a relief to get them back undamaged, excellent, enjoy your time at home cheers Liam
Great stuff. I fly with my planes in similar way. Proper job. Just a quick one as far as I remember months ago you gave us ref no of the display cupboards. As far as I remember they are from IKEA. Please could you give us a bit of advise. Many thanks. A
If there were to be damage on any of the planes being transported by air in your luggage Jamie, who would you have to report it to? AAIB?!
What happens at Customs? Have you ever had to repack ?
I love this build and the video and music are superb too. I’m going to try and shamelessly replicate this beauty soon. Thanks Jamie
Thanks so much Les
Awesome episode and thanks so much for sharing. Dropping a note, the music pairing with this build is a great match. I really enjoyed the time, nicely done on all levels! Doug
Thanks Douglas, much appreciated
Cracking video Jamie, and now so tempted to have a go at one. Can I please ask which Dspiae cordless drill you used please. Thanks Jason 🇬🇧
Thanks mate. The cordless drill is called the Wowstick, I got it from Amazon.
I’ve warmed up for tackling my Laminar Flow Design parts cage by getting into my Detail and Wonder GWH A10C landing gear set where you REALLY have to be careful what you cut with loads of beautiful hydraulic pipe work around the gear legs !😂 Great video with some useful hints , looking great 👍🏻
I used those on the Tamiya F-14, just astonishing!
Great build Jamie really enjoyed this and the mkvii conversion, sorry for ignorance, are there any differences between your later version of the early mki here and the Kotare Mid mki kit? Many thanks Steve
Thanks mate. I don't have the mid kit so I don't know I'm afraid.
Always nice when aftermarket or conversion sets aren’t beasts and fit. Like the 5-minute epoxy solution and will have add that to the bag o’tricks.
Cheers mate
I find that when I have to make cuts into the "meat" of the plastc I prefer to score with the back of the hobby blade. It takes out a swarf of material and tends to get stuck much less than when using the cutting edge. Same principle as a panel line engraver, but finer blade. I can't recommend grinding rare earth magnets down. They are nickel plated for a reason. They corrode extremely easily, which makes them swell at the surface, affecting the fit. so if you are not happy with the fit, better dry fit and deepen the recess the magnet goes in.
I find that this method takes too much material away so prefer the sharp edge. Tolerances are tight with these sets. I did deepen the recess and it felt ok on the dry fit but in the end I misjudged it ever so slightly, I think because of the glue, it was a fraction of a mm off but enough to annoy me so I have to fix it. Next time I'll over do it on purpose!
What brand of bits do you use with your Wowstick Jamie?
It came with drill bits but I just put Wowstick in the Amazon search and a compatible set came up.
It’s going to be a stunning project. I shudder to think the total investment but knowing you the end result will justify the cost.
Thanks mate. Luckily the review set was a review sample and the LFD cockpit set was an extra free set as it had a flaw (buggered if I could find it though...)!
72 scale really can't be as realistic as you need due to its size no reason to freak out and trying to reinvent the wheel trying to accurize this scale. 😊
I do prefer it though
From before your time- "I'm a tootie! WHY DIDN'T I THINK OF THAT BEFORE!!" FIREBALL XL 5 Steve Zodiac exclaiming his displeasure at remembering his earlier attempt as he gets the point of his predicament as he realizes he had that memory of how to get out of his situation :)😊
Gerry Andersons Fireball XL5 ITC TV 1962- later seen in USA on NBC 1963😊
I do remember watching it as a kid, clearly a repeat!
Hi Jamie - Love watching this kind of video - "How I fixed this or got around this" - This where us beginners / noobs learn the most from the masters. I have couple of conversions coming up Hobby Boss A-7 Nose / Intake and Hobby Boss A-6E to KA-6D - hope I am as neat as you were - The Laminar Flow items are serious works of art!. Paint next - cant wait for Sunday!
Thanks mate, they sound like interesting projects
@@thescalemodellingcafe All Nimitz Based birds from Portsmouth (Stokes Bay)1980 - when got on Board! Hi Viz - Everything bar the EA-6B and C-1 :(
There is model assemblers and then there is builders like you.
Thanks Fred, much appreciated
Outstanding work and a great advert for LFD so much so ive now bought two a Vc and a XII a Spit i never though i needed till your build. Awesome stuff. Lucky Tamiya Spitfires are only 50USD in Tokyo and Osaka now to bring home a few more for these!
Wow, that's cheap!
fantastic job, you make it look easy. i didn’t get the name of the polisher tool?
Thanks mate. The polisher tool is from DSPAIE
Not a good idea to snap parts off. They can break off into the meat of the actual part.
Yes mate, most of the supports had been cut away before the snap but you are exactly right
Which Tamiya kit was used? Supurb build!😊
Thanks mate, this was the Mk.IX
The detail painting in the cockpit is ammo right, is that straight acrylic paint ?
I think the sprayed paints were MRP and the brush painted bits Ammo
Which applicator brush is that Jamie, is it the standard one that comes with ammo glue ? If so which glue 😂
Yes, it's in the bottle. Any of their glues have the same brush.
Brilliant Jamie, can't wait for the Mk XIV's Have a question, do you work on 1 model at a time or several.. I need to get my mojo back on track and think I should just concentrate on 1 at a time Regards Howard
Only 1 at a time, I don't want to run out of mojo!
@@thescalemodellingcafe thanks Jamie, I, ll take yr advice on that, we, re both pilots and loved meeting you at the first Scale modelling session a few years ago Regards Howard
I've been eagerly awaiting your build, Jamie. It didn't disappoint. Brilliant work on the cockpit and conversion details!
Thanks Ken
Are the ModelsRgo clamps still available?
No idea mate, probably best ping them a message
I just found them at Rebell Hobby. Been looking for those things for a while.
@dougeby3996 is that in the UK?
Sweden
Hi Jamie. Looks absolutely fantastic mate! Beautiful work, can't wait to see a bit of paint on it! Will see you back in blighty! Safe trip back mate. 👊
Thanks mate
Fantastic. I think I can also do this conversation based on my skill set.
Go for it mate
Jocelyn Weisenstein levels of surgery... a considerably better outcome...
Hello Jamie, wow that’s a fantastic fit, bring on the paint.
Thanks mate
Hi, jamie. jp is looking really good. I'm looking forward to part 2, the painting phase. also have a safe flight home and enjoy your 2 weeks off with the family. Cheers Gary 🇬🇧
Thanks Gary
What kit does get the piece of fw 190??
The Royal Class Fw 190A-8
Have a great time off. JP is looking cool. Looking forward to the painting the JP video.
Thanks mate
Ordered my Battle from Hannants this very morning, Jamie. Happy days! The long wait is over.
Mine is now inbound!
@ I guess what I saw at Telford were test shots because the box contents are even nicer!
I got an email from Hannants - the Fairey Battles are in stock with them.
Mine is on it's way mate
Hey Jamie. Thanks for the weekly chat! 👍 Can't wait for Sunday! 😮😂 The JP is looking pretty cool too and I'm quite interested in seeing how you tackle the paint scheme. As ever, really enjoying your vids mate, very much appreciated. Safe journey home mate and see you next week from the man cave. 👍😁👊
Thanks mate
Looking forward to the paint on the Jet-Provo Jamie. BTW, no rivets? Too small a scale or just not appropriate 🤨
No rivets on this one, too small but also the JP is actually fairly clean looking
Hi Jamie, great wee video as usual, safe flight and have a wonderful time at home - looking forward to seeing you opening your goodies in the Mancave 🤣
Thanks Liam
Hope you have a great festive season.
Thanks Joe
I wouldnt bother putting the photo etc into the J.P.......just buy another one.....not exactly a bank breaking price
I don't think it made much of a difference, however if using the kit seats I think it's worth the entry fee!
@thescalemodellingcafe true but its not worth trying to pry it apart..
This video has inspired me to blow the dust off of my 1/32 Tamiya Spitfire MKXVI which had sat in the stash for 8 years and I considered getting rid of it at one point . Then along came Laminar Flow and I’ll experiment on the Eduard 1/48 Spitfire VIII to high back XIV first then convert the Tamiya ! Superb work Jamie , thanks for the inspiration and for bringing Laminar Flow to our attention.
The pleasure was all mine mate, glad you caught the LFD bug
A 1/48 Rafale, Typhoon and Gripen would be good from the likes of Tamiya or Hasegawa (I know you didn’t include them). I haven’t seen a good Rafale from anyone yet.
Hasegawa have all but stopped new tool aeroplanes compared to their 90's hey day
@ Oh, that’s sad.🙁 I know you’re not a big fan of the company but it have built some great Hasegawa model kits. I’d still like to see a good Rafale.🙂
