I was in Dallas about 15 years ago and visited the Commemorative Air Force museum. I saw their B-24 come in to land and taxi to the hangar I was standing at, coolest sight ever. Nice build btw!
Great video. One point to make though. The leading edges of the wings are rubber deicing boots, they would not be weathered with chipped paint. They would stay black or rubber in colour. These rubber deicing boots appeared on the B-17, B-24, B-29 and C-47 and C-54
Thank you for the information, definitely a let down from me… obviously just being lazy and not doing my research. I’ll make sure to improve for next time😉
Many cammo B-17s in Europe also had these removed too. There's footage of an out of control B-17 in cammo, in a spin, and the bare metal L/E is reflecting.@@ultralowfat
@@machmodels Came here to say this too, FYI, de-icing boots are still in use today - the ATR-42 ATR-72 and Dash 8 are among some aircraft using this method.
@@MillwalltheCat You can see deice boots on the B-17, B-24, B-29 and C-47 and C-54. I imagine the twin engine B types could have them or not depending on how they were ordered. These were rubber pneumatic boots.
Real nice build on this American bomber. As an American myself the Liberator is my favorite bomber. “Hornby Hoddies Ltd” bought AirFix models in the early 2000’s and have been focused on making it a real competitor to the other high-end famous brands of model makers. This is why this B-24 model looks so good.
I've been in two of the still flying B-24's "Witchcraft" and "Diamond Lil" .... on the Ground! My Dad had 30 Round Trip Flights in the 445th Bomb Group B-24 "Bunnie" during WW II. The same Group as Jimmy Stewart!
Awesome job! I've always loved the liberator. She's an unsung hero of the war. The B-17s and Lancasters got all the glory(love them too), but the B-24 just chugged along, bombing away lol
I visited Hannants a few years ago and wondered around the front office pretty unimpressed until one of the staff mentioned the warehouse at the back. WOW...it was like going into Raider of the Last Ark model warehouse floor-to-ceiling boxes of kits!!!
Ahh the squiggle squiggle motion - best name for this technique I've heard so far. Great build Mach I love watching your builds and your talk throughs are on point and so helpful
Great video on a great subject. Nice to see simple yet well detailed kits like this being produced. While I wait for a new tool 1/32 F6F Hellcat to be produced, I’ll be adding this B-24H to my stash. Cheers
It's a splendid build and I'm thinking of buying that kit for myself. Hopefully the decals include an RAF colour scheme as scores of Liberators served in the RAF due to the Lend-Lease Agreement and I prefer them in RAF livery..
Terrific job on the B-24, really like the camo scheme and the method used to create shadows and fading. Well done Revell for including so much detail. I built a Revell B-24 kit back in the early 1970s (as a young teen) and recall that the details of the interior were basically non-existent, except for some bits and pieces in the cockpit. BTW...I enjoyed the Mosquito build :)
@@machmodels OOps....my mistake....I meant Airfix not Revell. I have Revell on the brain at the moment as I'm building the its 1/32 Ju 88 and it's driving me insane with so many issues. I did build the Airfix B-24 many moons ago and it was a very basic kit then so it's great that, in the intervening years, there have been major improvements in the quality of the new kits. Bravo Airfix!!
A 18:40 the 'metal reveal' chipping shouldn't be there. The black strips are pneumatic de-icing boots, which are cycled to make a 'creeping' surface to break off ice deposits and safeguard the aerodynamics. The aircraft wouldn't be signed off as fit to fly with the boots inoperative and puncture repair patches can sometimes be seen on boots at full scale. Hope this helps - otherwise an excellent model.
Excellent and instructional video. I love the scissors trick. Just a note, the leading edge de-icers on the wings are a rubber material and won't chip. I have my kit on order and can't wait to build it. Thanks.
This has to be the best 1/72 Liberator I’ve seen. I can’t believe it’s Airfix. When did they start using this new plastic? From what model? I’m used to excessively soft plastic and short shot parts but good over all shape. This is a quantum leap. Great job, by the way.
I have several Airfix kits in my stash, all relatively recent offerings. They have stepped up their game in the past few years. The amount and level of detail, even in 1/72 scale is impressive.
Hi Luke, that was a extremely outstanding build/painting and weathering finish, on the B-24, congratulations on a job very well done, bedt regsrds from a Kiwi living in Australia, Les
Great! Just one suggestion : I am pretty sure that the black on wings and horizontal tail leading edge was the classic anti ice Goodrich system made of inflatable rubber, so it was not subject to peel off like normal paints.
Like a match made in heaven! The best modeller, the best kit! I had my fingers crossed that I would see a larger bomber aircraft some time soon! Keep up such amazing work!!! 😁
The only problem I see with the execution of the kit, and it does detract, is the leading edge of the wings, tailplane, and rudders are deicing boots. There would not be the chipping of paint with these boots. If the boots were removed for combat, the base color was the color of the wing, in this case olive drab. Yes, that is picking of nits, but an important detail. Over all, I really liked this build
Excellent video! That's a really nice looking Liberator, de-icing boots notwithstanding 😉 No worries, nothing that can't be fixed by a bloke of your calibre, if you felt the urge 🤣😂 Great stuff 👌🏻👏🏻👍🏻

I might be mistaken but the leading edges of the wings and tail surfaces have a black rubber deicing boot . The boot allows any ice that forms on the wings to be kicked off when the boot inflates . Many modern aircraft still use this type of anti icing system . The Beechcraft King Air is an example .
Excellent job on the build. Looks AMAZING! The only little characteristic that I don’t like, and it’s not anything to do with your work at all, is the landing gear in the extended position. It looks like the plane sits too high off the ground, too much room between the belly and the ground. In reality, I don’t believe the ball turret could be fully extended on the ground. Years ago, I had a 72 scale Liberator and it did the same thing. I always thought it looked inaccurate. The 48 scale Libs were more accurate in this case. Congrats on the build either way!
