I was recently trying to buy a digital camera and couldn't find any videos that weren't SELL SELL SELL, I thought people probably have the same problem buying digital pianos so I made these videos. I don't mind which one people end up buying I just want to help them decide which one is right for them.

Thanks for the excellent comparison. I'm in the US and recently bought a DGX650 bundle that included the optional pedals, bench and amp. I'm just a beginner learning to play so I don't know a lot, but find the keyboard and sound excellent. Digital pianos are so good these days and affordable, it'a hard to really go wrong.
BTW: You guys show a lot of skill in your demos. I have watched many of the comparisons, and they are some of the best on UA-cam.

+Mr. Lee Hi both the P115 and the DGX 660 have Yamaha's GHS (Graded Hammer Standard) and since you don't care for all the extra features I say go for the P115 since it's $200 less if you are buying it by itself and without the stand.

I love these reviews, not because I'm shopping for a keyboard (not anymore might I add, and thanks to the help of this gentleman I was able to decide what keyboard I should get), but because of this man's charisma and talent for presenting; especially in reference to his ability to give you the pros and cons/ specifications of each keyboard never leaves you in the dark. Nice review. I have both pianos. I don't use 1/10th of the features on the 650 but the 6 track recording feature is really nice and my daughter loves all the sounds. There are many good samples - even the horns sound good. The keyboard on the P115 seams to work better on the long run. The keys on the 650 has become noisy and a few of them starts to get stuck.
Now I am looking at the P125 vs DGX660. Based on the predecessors, I'm pretty sold for the DGX. Your video was very informative, thank you so much!
the p125 sounds way more realistic than the dgx660 in person

Great comparison. I have both DGX and P115 sitting in my room right now. And I have to say P115 sounds noticeably better. I bought both because I was confused to the core and wanted to test them side by side in person and eventually return one of them. Hence I will be returning DGX. As much as DGX offers, at this stage i dont need all that and for an enthusiastic keyboard player, I care most about the sound. And p115 is just a notch deeper and rich! I can make a video while playing both if that helps people.

What about built-in speakers sound? Does P-115 produce low frequencies well? What speakers sound better between them two?

Thank you for your videos I think they're great two instruments but are different benefits offered in addition to the cost of what gives you the DGX-650 but in my case I would go for the P-115 because only need pianos, strings and pianos Electric . I think the sound is best heard on the DGX-650 by the size of the speakers. thank you.

What is weird is that the P-115 doesn't need the polyphony that the DGX650 needs with the multi-track recording. They did things backwards.

Your review is great! Have a question for you. Can you compare DGX660 and P-255? This is for a beginner student (10 years old) but I do not want the fast learner student to outgrow the piano in a 2-3 years time frame. I understand P115 is a portable and simple but great sounding piano but I prefer to provide the student with recording options as well to provide creative options to the student if interested and learn the instrument and various features in the beginning itself rather not know about it later in the game starting to uncover the many features required to be proficient for at least a mini recording studio. Of course, not trying to say know it all but the point being is to provide and give exposure to the useful things out there to develop upon them through the journey. Possibly, P115 already is out of league from what I have stated as my requirement here based on your review and hence my ask to compare P-255 and DGX660. Portability is a must for me and top priority but please note the student has an adult help as well.
I have dgx660. I recommend dgx660 if you still confused compare to P115.
P115 win only weight.

I think a lot of people would like to hear the sound of each keyboard alone, like how would it sound if we were playing with headphones, because with the microphone it can sound good but I think we would appreciate better the differences if we got a headphones-like sample for each keyboard you compare.
Apart from the small Speakers which are noticed on the Console Edge on P 115,there are 2 comparatively bigger Speakers below the ones seen on the Top.
I wonder if the DGX Series has that kind of an arrangement with Speakers.

should i get the dgx 660 compared to the p45 or arius ydp 143 ? tbh i rather get the p115 due to the portability, but it doesn't sell in my country, but can dgx 660 be moved around just like any portable pianos ? if it can't, i might as well buy ydp 143 because it looks better for interior in the house
Please just off the topic a bit. I am torn for choice between the Yamaha P-45 and the DP-6. I have heard that the Yamaha P-45 inbuilt speakers are not so good. I dont know how true that is.
Instead of all these options, wouldn't it be cheaper and more versatile just to use a computer or iPad to do the recording, etc? Save the money on the quality keyboard, and use the power of the computer that you probably already own?
Note worthy the p 115 has dedicated left and right outputs connect to some monitors and the sound difference is huge
also a much more serious keyboard with better 'less' sounds
Guys, played a Yamaha Mox 8 and Korg Triton. Both synthesizers and Yamaha feels and sounds great though the Korg has some large touch display. Have also played the DGX 660/650 and neither the sound nor the feel is appealing at all. The keys are hard and the sound quality is disgusting(for lack of a better word).I even feel the DGX shouldn't be weighted. I have a small budget and my playing is also basic. All I want is some nice quality sound and a soft great feel across the octaves. Something that feels and sounds like Mox8 or Motif or Montage. Does the P125 or even 115 feel the same? Anyone who've played either of them please.....
Sir, what the different ydp 143 with P series.. if just the output sound, if i put in to dolby or dts even high end stereo speaker.. it wilk be same sound? Cz i would like to boy ydp 143 but i saw p45 with 1/2 price less.. i dont care about the cover but i buy for the feel of the tuts and output sound..
Do either of them support half-pedaling?
I got the Yamaha FC3A pedal and it wouldn't work with my Casio CDP-120, so I'm planning to upgrade.
(Edit: I checked, and apparently the DGX650 doesn't supoort the FC3A, only the DGX660)

Is there anyway to save a DSP setting so that when you turn off the piano and turn it back on the setting is saved? I like to change DSP sound to a larger hall but every time I turn off the piano and turn it back on its always back to default. (DGX650)

Hi, i have a technical question about DGX-650.
I bought a DGX-650 few years ago, and i stared it on his keyboard stand.
However, how can i move it elsewhere without dismounting it? Is there a keyboard stand that is able to support it when i play in a concert for example?

This was the video I was looking for. A real opinion of the demonstrator. I want to buy the DGX-650, although I have to see where in my house it'd fit. All the voices sound clear on video. I'll have to try it myself in a store one time. Does the DGX-650 have a sort of choir-voice(s)? I couldn't find it anywhere on youtube. so maybe you guys know that! And if it's there: be honest with the quality of the sound of it :D

Hi. Thank you for the very informative videos. I have narrowed my decision on my piano purchase down to the P115 or the DGX650. I played a bit of piano when I was a kid, and still dabble, but would like to spend the time re-learning. My young son is interested in learning as well. We don't have the money for a traditional upright or baby grand piano at this point. I like the simplicity of the 115, and especially like the ease of fusing 2 sounds together (ie piano with strings). How easy it is it to accomplish this task with the 650?
With the 650, I like the tutorials on the LCD, as well as all the fun band sounds and the 500 voices. I don't think I need to be too concerned with the difference in polyphony. It appears from your video that the speakers sound better on this unit as well.
Is there any good reason I wouldn't go with the 650?

+Erik Meitzner Hi, sounds like DGX650 is the best one for you, especially as you have a young son too. The DGX650 is so much more fun for youngsters. The only reason you might go for P115 is if you think you and your son would benefit from having a simple instrument which makes the process of learning more focussed. Some parents of my students say their children learn better by focussing on one task at a time, rather than having lot's of options to play with, it just depends on the student.

What is better to play on gigs, concerts andrestaurants? From one side p115 doesn't weight a lot and it is easier to take with. From other side it has much less functions than DXG650

I'm a bit late to the party! I just started watching your videos and love how in depth they are. I want to buy the P-115, as it is what I can afford and I've been playing piano for about 1 year. Is it a good investment? It totally sounds great on your videos and I think I will get it. The P-255 is way too much but beautiful nonetheless haha
I've just ordered p125 today. I've been plaing piano in keyboard since 2 years. P125 has a great deal to consider piano sound and action.
As far as p.255 is concerned, that is a huge upgrade with real piano keys of wooden texture. Would be best for experienced players.

You guys r doing great... which made me clear to decide between the 2... and i am in india and and i think P115 is not yet launched here... but as i already have a Yamaha i455 its and awesome keyboard with high quality indian instruments voices packet together in the single keyboad... and as its 61keys keyboard. now i m looking forward to buy an 88 key one... And i just wanted a straightforward high quality Grand piano auido in the digital piano.. and as P115 has got pure cf sound engine (sampled from CFIIIS) and 192 note polyphony, narrow shaped, matte black key tops, i think to go with it as its even more portable than the dgx650 and i just wanted to play it as acoustic piaon.
BTW does dgx also got pure cf sound???

Just purchased a P115 B @ Musee Musicals,Chennai a few days back.If a Beautiful Piano Sound is your only concern ,this P115 fits the bill.The others features and voices which are a few in number comparatively ,are reasonably good enough.In fact , was aiming for DGX 650 initially.

Does the 128 polyphony on the DGX count for all the voices in a 5 voice recording? Or does each voice have its 128.

+Climbers Of Ice Each voice does have its own 128 max polyphony, but if you are playing a multi track recorded (or live) song then the entire song has a max of 128, this means that there will be 'drop out' if you exceed 128.
I'm curious, do you think a Yamaha P255 would be a better piano than a DGX660? Those are my two choices right now :) Love your vids btw!
Thanks. They are totally different keyboards to be honest. P255 is very simple and DGX is more versatile. There is no right one, just what suits you best. In terms of just playing piano then P255 is superior certainly. DGX is more fun if you like multi-track recording and playing with backing music.

Yes! It typically keeps the keys from clunking loudly when you release them. It provides much quieter operation of the keys while playing. Believe me it's not just on there for decoration. I happen to think the red lining looks pretty as well. But it is actually on there for a reason, not just for decoration

Hello! Unfortunately, this is not possible on the DGX.
If I play with the drumkit in the DGX650 can I use my own drum samples or do I have to use the factory presets? and I take it you can use an SD card to import and export wav/midi files? Thanks. p.s I want to by the DGX asap.
+Mixdown Technology You can use USB to transfer wav from the DGX to a computer, you can also use it to trigger your own drum sounds on a computer via MIDI connection.
ePianos.co.uk Excellent, thanks for the info. Basically this keyboard can act as a drum sampler by using your own chopped up WAV files. I will be buying two of them now, one for sampling the other for composing both linked up to my PC/laptop into my DAW. Thanks again.
I heard in another video that the DGX has weighed keys in the lower notes and gets lighter as you go up. Is that the same with the p115??? Secondly, how is that a good thing? I prefer full weighted keys on the whole keyboard.
Hi Harold, all of the keys on both the DGX and P115 are 'weighted' so they do feel like a real piano. The weight on the keys is graded from bass to treble end because that's precisely what you get on a real piano, the effect is quite subtle but vital to achieve authenticity. Hope that helps.
is the dgx650 still worth it?
i tested both and dgx is really quality with sound, speakers and mostly the keybed. it is 10 times better than p115. if u dont need being portable, go for dgx definitly

hi, i didnt try them. if you can afford, definitely you should buy a real piano, any digital piano feels like a real piano in my opinion. for digital ones, it depends on your taste. you always want to upgrade the digital piano with an expensive one but it will never satisfy you. so dont think too much, just buy when you feel comfortable. greetings

dgx 650 nin 10 kat daha iyi oldugunu belirtmişsin ama sanırım daha ağır bi enstrüman taşınabilirlik açısından daha sıkıntılı gözüküyo dediğin gibi napsam bilemedim :) sorabilecek fazla kimsem de yok o yüzden hope to see your reply soon :)

Asking for a little help. I am having problems with audio recording on the DGX 650. the usb drive says "its busy" and recording quits. any solution? i still have 15 days to return it. Did you ever face this problem?
Check that the USB is formatted first. It could be that it's already too full.
Does both keyboards run on batteries.
I'm looking into getting piano. I use to play the trumpet back in 3rd - 10th grade and unfortunately stopped. And I've wanting to learn to play for the longest, I have to teach myself to read music again!
