    Just wanted to post "thanks" to Chris Hammond for these fantastic videos. We're in the States -- but wish we could (economically) make our purchase from you and ePianos. These comparative videos are invaluable to parents who struggle with discerning the (sometimes minute) differences between like models. Through in derivative model numbers -- an "R" at the end of YDP162, for example -- and our heads are left spinning, forestalling our purchase as we don't want to confront "buyer's remorse". But regarding digital pianos, you've solved it, and your encyclopedic knowledge of the merchandise you represent, your passion for piano, and your gifted speaking and conversational style, while anticipating our questions, are indispensable. Thank you again.

    I have played 525 and it was nice however I couldn't find 535 for demo in India. Still I'm buying it.

I wish I could see a demo on using the headphones while practicing without disturbing anyone at night. Also how to do a recording of the piece of music on the Clavinova.

    If I could be a bit cheeky and use you as a resource of information since I don't have anything like your experience with digital pianos, I'd quite like to know what the general difference - the basics - is between the different classes of Pianos in the Yamaha family, mainly between the Arius series and the Clavinova series. You're not American, your videos are really informative but packed with nuggets of info I didn't know so I'd love to just have a 'what's the difference' video, you know? Because Yamaha wouldn't release anything that was 'bad' or naff, and it just seems the more money you have to spend, there will be a digital piano in that league, and at some point - for me it comes at around the £2000 mark - I start asking "Why do you need to spend more money than this on a digital piano. They're all brilliant, surely? Yamaha's a trusted brand. So, there we are, I just thought I'd ask. Kind of a 'beginners guide' would be useful.

    • @ePianoscouk
      @ePianoscouk  9 років тому +1

      gmfmusic85 Thanks for the request will try and work on something
      Essentially the Arius YDP are the budget series, the Clavinova are the middle range and the N1 upwards are the hybrid series. For a player who does exams or is of a reasonable standard the CLP will take you through all your grades- where a YDP might only get you to grade 3 or 4 without you aspiring to a better model

    I read on the website that CLP-535 have 6 touch sensitivities and CLP-525 have 4 touch sensitivities. Does that mean that CLP-535 is able to produce 6 different sounds when the key is pressed and CLP-525 is able to produce 4 different sounds when the key is pressed with different pressure?

    • @ePianoscouk
      @ePianoscouk  9 років тому +1

      Duncan Ng Hi, the touch sensitivity settings (I think) you're referring to are difficult to explain, I'd really like to make a video to explain them! perhaps we will. Essentially when you set it to SOFT it doesn't take such effort to hit a high volume, when I'm teaching a young beginner they tend to be very timid on the keys to I set it to SOFT and they can still produce a loud enough volume for me to hear. When they become more confident, and eventually really strike the keys, I set it back to MEDIUM or HARD so it almost absorbs their key strikes and the volume isn't so overpowering. Personally I like to set them to HARD because, as you see in the videos, I'm quite heavy handed and I find it's more forgiving to my style. It's a very useful option to have on a digital piano.

    Hi, Great video. I guess my budget suits clp 525, as i am more interested in playing piano, but i would love to know why clp525 is priced much higher than dgx 650?
    I understand dgx 650 has maybe dozens of more features and voices, then what makes it cheaper than clp 525?
    Looking forward to ur reply for a better understanding.
    Thanks

      @ePianoscouk  8 років тому

      +alpha 4375 CLP525 has Yamaha's premium key mechanism called the GH3, it's highly realistic in the way it replicates the real feel and touch of a grand piano. The DGX uses a 'budget' version of this called the GHS which is still considered 'weighted' but is nowhere near as good. For me this is where the difference in price can be found. One other thing is the max polyphony is double on the 525 than the DGX (256 and 128 respectively).

    Chris, Thanks for your video! You have made no mention of the fact that neither of these digital pianos feature the 88 keys "linear weight distribution" found in a normal piano. Is this a big deal ? I assume it is to be, and if so should I go for the next higher up model that does ? What do you think of the GH3X with or without NW, is it worth the additional cost ? Thank you.

    • @ePianoscouk
      @ePianoscouk  8 років тому

      +Jason55 44 Hi, to be frank the 'linear weight distribution' or 'Linear Graded Hammer action' is not something I personally notice when swapping between 545/575. (to anyone reading this wondering what we're on about, on CLP575 every single key has a slightly different weight, just like a traditional piano, but on CLP545 the weight grading only changes every few keys). But some people say I am not a sensitive enough player to notice these things anyway! - The much more noticable difference when you move to CLP575 is the Virtual Resonance Modeling, which is a very clever effect which mimics the natural swelling sound that real strings make in a piano's cabinet (hopefully a video coming soon on this) for me this is the CLP575s strongest feature, along with the 2-way speaker which enhances everything. There's far too much to say in writing, I'll get working on the video for you. And on your other question; wooden keys are absolutely wonderful.

    • @Jason-hj3if
      @Jason-hj3if 8 років тому

      +ePianos.co.uk I did not know that the 535/545, even though did not include the linear grading, still DO include grading every few keys, (just not at every key) if i understand you correctly. Thanks, i will watch out for the next video.

      +Ирина Казадаева
      Ирина! Только что смотрела видео, чтобы перевести для папы. Здесь отмечены несколько основных моментов:
      - по качеству звука (насколько схож с настоящим инструментом) следующие отличия
      *у 535 больше колонки, соответственно качество звучания лучше, чем у 525
      *у 535 есть такой момент, что он передает не только вибрацию от соприкосновения молоточка и струны (как 525), но и отдачу на клавишу. Грубо говоря, если вы сильнее нажмете на клавишу, молоточек ударит по струне сильнее и отдача по клавише будет жестче. Вы это почувствуете. Если мягче, то соответственно будет мягче.
      *у 535 есть еще такой эффект. Когда молоточек бьет по струне, она на реальном инструменте еще еле задевает соседние струны, создавая объем звука. Это учтено в модели 535, а в 525 не учтено
      - остальные отличия, о которых он говорит в основном по расширенному набору технических характеристик, которые вы можете прочитать в инструкции, не по звучанию.
      В конце автор этого видео говорит, что он, как учитель музыки был бы очень рад узнать, что кто-то из его учеников играет на 525, так как это очень хороший инструмент. Но 535 действительно стоит тех денег, которые за него просят, потому что звучит по-другому.

    @Shaovus 8 років тому

    How would these CLP models compare against the Yamaha p255?

    • @ePianoscouk
      @ePianoscouk  8 років тому +1

      +Kyle Williston P255 is desgined to be portable so it's quite slim and only has small-ish speakers built in, the max polyphony is the same (256) as the whole clavinova range which makes it pretty impressive. If you've got to take it out and play a gig then P255 is clearly better as it'll fit in the back of a car, however the CLP models are desgined to be more of a permanant fixture, like a piece of furniture, they look nice and can house larger speakers which produces a more impressive sounds. So there is no winner, it just depends on how you want to use your piano.

    • @Shaovus
      @Shaovus 8 років тому

      Thank you very much for the response. If I was using headphones can I expect similar sound quality from the p255 and the CLP models?

    • @ePianoscouk
      @ePianoscouk  8 років тому +4

      +Kyle Williston Yes with the CLP535 I'd say yes, but several other factors will come into play, eg the CLP545 has a special mode for using headphones called 'stereophonic optimisation' which makes using headphones a more 'live' experience, the CLP545 also has wooden keys which are much more authentic to play than the standard plastic ones. The CLP575 not only has both of these but also a technology called Virtual Resonance Modelling, which transforms the sound completely and allows you to 'swell' the sound of the piano by letting all the strings play off eachother's harmonies just like you can on a real grand piano. Sorry to babble on, it's quite difficult to explain these things in writing! Hope this helps anyway.
