    I’m 23 and been playing the piano for about 10 years and I got the P255 when it first came out in 2013 and it still works PERFECTLY! It sounds and feels so authentic, it has wonderful sturdy quality, great sound quality, an unlimited amount of features and effects, it’s very customizable, and I have NO complaints about it! It’s the best digital piano I’ve ever owned, and I use it for all my piano covers that I upload on my UA-cam channel 😊

    These videos are the best I have ever seen, bar none! You do an excellent job of describing the features of these pianos. I live in the United States and I wish you had a store here I could visit because it seems so many times, that the salespeople don't know the products and aren't able to guide me to the correct unit. Great job!

    I bought a Yamaha P-255 a few months ago and I can honestly say it was the best thing I ever bought. For anyone deliberating on whether or not to get one, I cannot recommend them enough.

      I did briefly own the P115 before upgrading to the P255 after I'd tried it. Certainly I have no regrets - sooner or later I feel I'd outgrow the P115, whereas I simply don't feel I am good enough for my P255 yet and it makes me want to be a better pianist. I cannot see myself replacing the P255 for a long time. The key mechanism and response you get from the P255 is simply a different world to the P115. With its synthetic ivory keys it's a joy to play. The only piano in Yamaha's portable range I didn't really look at is the DGX range because honestly I wanted pretty much just piano - with a few bells and whistles like strings and organs for rare occasions. Also I don't like the idea of a piano telling me how to play it - I like to tell it who's boss :)

      I had a p115 and then upgraded to the p255 as well and the sound is really rich and great. The only thing that disappointed me was the app it never updated with the newer iPhones and eventually became unusable and would turn off and say software is outdated. So that feature is no longer available now no matter what iPhone I used.

    Thanks for the excellent reviews!!! I’m a beginner, but sound and performance is extremely important to me. Before watching your videos, I was going to buy the P115. Then the P255, for the performance and sound,,,, and then you introduced me to the DGX660. To get the better sound(since the speakers lack a bit compared to the P255 and yes the polyphony) and versatility, I bought the DGX with studio headphones. I love it.... It’s a total blast right out of the box.

    I'm about to buy a piano mainly for home use. I've been looking at the YDP-142/143 and the P-115 pro bundle. What's the best choice? I won't be carrying the piano around as far as I know, but it might be good to have the opportunity in the future. Still the YDP series attracts me more.
    How big a difference is there between the YDP-142/143 and the P-115?

    This is a great video detailing the depths for the determined to delve into the dilemma of deciphering which direction to take.
    If one is really interested in the *pure classical* entity, then the *P255* would be the better of these. If one is an *arranger* and likes the bells and whistles, go for the *DGX.*
    If one is a *hybrid musician* who enjoys playing different genres of music, then the *P115* will suffice. The weighted keys would not need to be overly precise, since, an organ, synth, harpsichord or Fender Rhodes, have their various touch sensations. He can also, midi or USB a program to enhance the sounds.

    Hello! Thank you very much for your video!
    I would like to ask you a question: while searching my first piano, I read comments of people in the internet, also in places like amazon, about these keyboards and they wrote that P45 and P115 (which are newer but mechanically identical to previous) tend to loose slowly their mechanical resistance after months or few years of use. Like you said, these are good piano and it depends on what you want to do... in few words, P45 and P115 are very good especially for people that put their hands on a keyboard for the first time, but if you want to continue seriously, they suggested to move directly to P255 because the mechanics seems much improved and more robust than previous models. From your experience, did you noticed this "degradation of resistance" in the cheaper models?
    Greetings from Italy!
    Sincerely.

    We have had an upright piano at home for 22 years. It was used when we got it. My wife plays piano and is not a beginner, but she knows how. She recognizes that our piano is really not all that good. It is always a little out of tune even a few months after having it tuned. But it's been good enough for her purposes. She mainly uses it as an aid to "pick-out" new music as an aid in learning new music or song writing. She is a singer. She mainly sings in barber shop groups. We will be moving to a smaller house when I retire later this year and we don't want to move the piano with us. So we will be in the market for another piano after we move. An electronic piano seems like the perfect solution. I anticipate connecting it to our stereo amplifier for which I have two different sets of high quality speakers. Do you think she would become dissatisfied with a P45? Would the P155 server her better?

  • @rodneylee4026
    @rodneylee4026 6 років тому +13

    The P-255 is great. A lot of serious players use these. Don't buy into the hype on some forums that Roland is better and Kawai is better because of some specs on paper, or because they have metallic chassis. Metallic casing looks nice but it's kind of ridiculous, unless you want to feel that the outsides will outlive the action and internal electronics by about a hundred years.
    I had my P-255 fall off it's stand onto a hardwood floor in the middle of the night (cats) and not a single problem with the P-255. Yamaha makes a workhorse and if you're not too vain about the casing and just want something that sounds and feels great, they can't be beat.

    Thanks for your videos, they are very helpful and you answer all the right questions.
    I've been wanting to get my wife a piano to learn on, and at first I was thinking of getting her a Midi controller for her iPad, but realised that was silly.
    Then I started looking around, and thought I found a good piano with the Yamaha np12, but then realized it didn't have nearly enough keys to learn properly. Then I looked at the p45, and thought it was perfect, weighted keys, and full 88 of them.. Then I saw your comparison between the p45 and the p115.. then I saw your comparison between the p115 and the dgx660..
    So I think I've settled on the dgx660, it seems to tick all the boxes except for synthetic Ivory keys which I think is fine.
    My question is this: white or black? I was hoping to keep it a complete surprise, from what I can tell the white looks a little bit more classy, but my wife may want to use it in church where a black one would blend in with the stage better.
    Lastly, how does the sound quality between the p255 and dgx660 compare? In your other comparison, the dgx660 was better than the p115, so I'm guessing there dgx660 sits somewhere between the p115 and p255?

    If I am just beginning piano lessons and can afford it, should I buy the p255? I'm asking because many reviews I read mentioned that p255 is for intermediate to advance players and that the p125 is more suitable for beginners, I was wondering if there are any disadvantages for beginners to learn and practice on the p255 vs p125.

  • @BluesBuzzBass7935

    How would you compare the P255 to the CLP535 - sound and features?
    With a decent stand for the P255, there is only 145£ up to the CLP353 (Norwegian retail).
    I am a beginner to piano (I have been playing bass in a blues trio for 20+ years), and trying to deside on a first d-piano for me and my familie.

    • @ePianoscouk
      @ePianoscouk  7 років тому +1

      Remember P255 is designed to be portable so it's quite different to CLP535 which is designed to stay put like a traditional piano. The spec isn't too different but the downward facing speakers and lower cabinet on CLP535 certainly make the sound richer and fuller. Also the CLP535 uses a slightly improved key mechanism called GH3 which has an extra sensor and improves sensitivity. If you need to travel then there's nothing better than P255, but if it's staying in one place CLP535 would be better I'd say. Good luck!

      That news also I hope but I still do not know, maybe for another NAMM show, but apparently between P155 and P255 spent 5 years and it would be assumed that the P255 had to leave in 2019, although that is my guess. My very distant assumption is that it might change from CFIIIS sound to CFX sound, since the YDP S34 and YDP181, were launched with that sound, but as I say it is a distant assumption, sorry for my English

    To me, the only thing that would matter would be the key action. Regardless of which piano I end up buying, the first thing I will do is plug it into my computer, slap on a fabulous grand piano or Rhodes plugin, some reverb, eq, etc., and it will sound great.

    • @ePianoscouk
      @ePianoscouk  3 роки тому

      Totally agree that the key mechanicsm is most important. Not everyone wants to use computers to give them sounds though, and will find it much easier if everything is built 'into the box'. These pianos are very easy to use in this regard and that's why they're so popular.

    To add to what you said: The key weight on the 115 is different than the 660. The former is heavier, more like a "real" piano, which might make a difference to some people. The very low end of the 115 sounds more realistic than the 660 too in the piano sound. My two cents is to avoid the 660 if you are a classical pianist and only want piano.

    • @eddyvideostar
      @eddyvideostar 5 років тому

      Jon: I agree: I am surprised, as you had stated, that the 115 has a better piano feel than the 660. Probably, the 660 is going for the crossbreed element, luring people into the faux-synth thinking.

      If you can afford it, it's an excellent first piano because you won't need to upgrade it for a long time, and you'll be using a very real-feel piano key mechanism right off the bat. As for Yamaha being good it's down to personal preference. Yamaha is a different sound to the likes of Roland etc so if I were you I'd listen to a bunch of pianos from both manufacturers and see which you prefer. Casio also do some reasonable stuff but IMO Yamaha and Roland are the leaders. Good luck!

      Mike: The floppy keyed synth feature changing and bending the sounds when one presses harder on a key, but this is not really a pure piano function. This video comparison is mainly for e-pianists coming as close to the feel and sound of a piano, commensurate with the costs.

      samiebuka I've had my p45 for 2 years and the keys are weighted but it feels very unnatural compared to an acoustic

    • @nyambe
      @nyambe 6 років тому

      I might not ever play a an acoustic piano, which is ironic. I started off looking to buy a keynote 61 ii, then looked at the keynote 88 ii, then at the Casio CDP 130 and finally the Yamaha p45. Everyone recommended weighted keys which I am not all that sold on but...under 400€? sure. Yes, I bought one!! lol What sold me on it was the minimalistic design, very clean, love that. No screaming logos, buttons or speakers in sight. I will use mostly software instruments in a controller like setting, expect for piano practice I think.

    A lot of buying decisions you make depends on your budget. For someone who hasn't got a lot of spare cash may buy a cheap keyboard but going to keep it for a while until there is a problem. Unless you are starting with a 61 keyboard you can't play complicated arrangements every one of these has 88 keys. Not everybody will upgrade from 1 generation of smartphone to the next. Other people may feel they have the cash but even as beginners they are willing to spend a bit more for a decent sounding instrument they don't have to upgrade when they get to playing Chopin nocturnes.

    I disagree that the Yamaha P115 is a simple piano, when working in conjunction to the Yamaha there are countless sounds available, built in recording and due play with multiple sounds.

      Eso si, pero yo puedo resumir el video
      El P45 es un piano digital con 88 teclas pesadas que usas sistema GHS, tiene 64 de polifonia, 10 sonidos, reverb, conector para pedal sustain y para USB host. Es el piano digital mas economico de Yamaha.
      El P115 es un piano digital de 88 teclas y al igual que el P45 usa un sistema GHS, tiene 192 de polifonia, tiene 14 sonidos, y algunas opciones como Sound Boost, reberb, y opcion para ponerle uno, o hasta tres pedales y tambien se le puede añadir una base de un mueble. Tiene salidas profesionales de audio, y tambien USB host, ademas tiene mejor sonido que el P45 porque usa un motor de sonido llamado Pure CFIIIS, actualmente esta descontinuado y el reemplazo es el P125.
      El P255 es un piano digital de 88 teclas con sistema GH con tacto de marfil sintetico, es mas profesional por tener 256 de polifonia, 24, sonidos, entrada para pedal de sustain y triple pedal, opciones como un equalizador de 3 bandas, sound, boost, efectos, como reverb, phaser, chorus, ademas tiene un motor de sonido CF Pure mejor que el P115, posiblemente con hastas 4 capas de sonido. sus altavoces son mejor que los otros dos, ya que son de 15W cada uno, tiene todo lo anterior ademas de terminales tradicionales MIDI, actualmente esta descontinuado y reemplazado por el P515

    Hi there. I am a professional pianist singer (always use real piano sounds) and also need a mother board for home (and no space for a real piano). You say P255 is 'closer' to professional level. Where does the standard start for what would be actually 'professional'. Thank you.

    • @ePianoscouk
      @ePianoscouk  7 років тому

      I guess by professional level I mean a professional pianist would be satisfied with the performance of the piano, it can give a sufficient range of light and dark for them to be able to express themselves. Hope that helps a bit.

    • @TyJeffriesComposerLyricist
      @TyJeffriesComposerLyricist 7 років тому

      Thanks very much. It was more a query of would there be a Yamaha Digital Piano that would be the go to instrument for professional working musicians who record/practise at home and also gig . Is the P255 the starting point for that sort of pro level...and what might be the next one up. I mistakenly bought the P45 in a rush (having had a P90 - which I'd had for years - suddenly die on me...which was a sturdy no frills workhorse). The key action on the P45 is terribly noisy it goes clackity-clack all the time.
      By the way I think you do a great job on these demo videos. Thanks a lot.

    • @ePianoscouk
      @ePianoscouk  7 років тому +1

      Thank you :-) If you can stretch to a P255 you're not likely to need to upgrade any time soon and most people would consider it pro level. P115 is very attractive because it's so reasonably priced but it does have it's limitations in terms of dynamic range and how much you can express yourself. Good luck!

      I've had a P-155 for five years and play mostly classical (Chopin is a fav). The old P-155 had a sticky key and rather than get it fixed, I upgraded to a P-255. What the guy in the video says about the 255 is absolutely true - it is a far more nuanced instrument than the 155. I can get a lot more out of any piece of music on the 255 than I ever could on the 155. I'm still getting used to the new amazing feel and rich resonance of the 255 compared to the 155. And for what it's worth, the cost of the 255 was about the same as when I bought the 155 five years ago.

      Davin Carrillo - Davin. Did you ever find an answer to the weighted issue of the p155 vs p255?. I'm in the market to buy one. I do not need bells & whistles other than "layered effects." I just play piano, but I definitely want the "weighted" feel. Have been looking to compare a Roland PF30 also. Any advice on your research between the 155 & 255 would be appreciated.
