    I've never seen anyone provide a better overview/demonstration/comparison of an instrument - guitar, piano, what have you, than in the videos of yours that I've watched. Thanks. I really appreciate this.

    Thanks you very much for your very good presentation Chris showing some of the main differences between these two very good models although I'd already made my decision last week for the P255 which arrived a couple of days ago and very pleased with my purchase even more so since watching your presentation. One thing you missed was some additional effects on the P255 and not fogetting the ease of access to all the functions on the P255 compared to the rest of the P Series. Although I am a beginner and not able to obtain its full potential just yet just watching you play it's a no brainer if you can justify and afford to extra cost

    I watched the P45 v P115 review and fell in love with the P115, immediately shopping for it online. Then I watched this and completely doubted my sanity. Thanks for putting the reviews out there to hear the sound comparisons. Context makes all the difference to judge a sound. Now shopping for a P255 :)

      just buy the P115 and use the Garritan CFX computer software piano... it blows them both away. So you just buy the software later, and even use the P115 or whatever as a controller for the software.

    You guys really need to direct line these pianos to a computer so we can really compare the sound. In this we are limited to hearing the difference in the speakers, and the P255 has almost double the speaker power. Please consider this. It will vastly increase the quality of these already great reviews.

    • @ePianoscouk
      @ePianoscouk  8 років тому +5

      +RevGrease Thanks, you make a very good point. In the future I want to have both a direct line and an external mic recording and alternate between the two. I've found that some people prefer a DL and some people prefer an external mic for hearing the performance of the speakers not just the samples. We'll keep trying to improve things for everyone, thanks for the suggestion.

    Thanks for this and for your P45 v P115 video also. Shopping around for a new all-in-one keyboard to replace my old Technics SX-P30 and even older Casio CT-770. I think for my purposes, the P115 offers a lot more over the P45 for a bit more money (around $530 CAD versus $700). However, the P255 offers a bit more over the P115 for a lot more money. As undoubtedly nice as the P255 is - I don't think it's worth the extra $800 CAD (over twice the price) over the P115. Also the weight is an issue for me - the P115 weights around 12 lbs less than the P255 which for regular gigging and taking to pubs and clubs is a big plus for the P115. But thanks for the great vids! I think I am going for the P115.

      @@log791 Hi - I made that comment 4 years ago :) I heard how different they sound but hadn't tried it. I bought the P115 initially, but having been in the store and then tried the P255 I paid the extra and swapped it out for a P255. I had that for 3 years, then I traded it in and I now own the P515. I love the P515 - particular the Bosendorfer sampling which is divine.

    I was foolhardy for being adamant on purchasing the P115. I gave myself a budget and I told myself to stick to it. But, heavens! This video opened my eyes. I want to buy a keyboard to improve. So, of course I wouldn't want to get something practically unplayable later on. Thank you for this! Will be saving more for the P255.

    Very informative...I was all set to purchase a P115 but now I am wondering if I am willing to spend the extra on the P225. Thanks for a great review, Chris. In regards to the sound quality, if you had plugged headphones in, or an external amp, would it be safe to say the difference heard in the beginning of the video goes away? Also, I'm confused about the resonant difference between them. They say the P115 sound is sampled from their concert piano. If that's true, all the real piano resonances must therefore be included. Otherwise they would've had to work to remove them. Is it just a difference in hardware capability once again? Thanks.

    Hey, just wanted to express my sincere appreciation for your presentation of the p255. I recently developed an interest in learning to play piano but had absolutely no idea what piano to purchase. Familiar with the Yamaha brand, I googled it and one thing led to another and I eventually found myself here.
    Your in depth analysis of the p105 vs p115 and p115 vs p255 helped me frame the right type of questions to carry out a further search. Satisfied, I purchased the p255b and absolutely love it. All thanks to your presentation and sample play here in this video-so thank you again. I would like to ask; What piano cover should I get for this as I've notice dust on it already?

    Sir you gave a beautiful presentation on the functionalities of these two digital pianos. Explaining so well their features. My Question is do you also deal in electronic Keyboards . I mean the ones with different rhythms styles and hundreds of sounds of different musical instruments coupled with accompaniment e.g Yamaha PSR series or for that matter Korg PA series . Would love to have a similar presentation about Korg PA600 & PA900 . Thanks a lot .

      +thomas grim CP40 and CP4 are very nice with the wooden keys, but remember they do not have built in speakers like the P255, so you'd always have to use external speakers or a PA system.

    Ok so time for me to eat my words! After owning the P115 for around 7 weeks the P255 has been nagging at me. Listened to Chris's excellent comparison video a few more times and a tonne of other videos so decided to go into the music store I got my P115 from and try out the P255 for myself. After 30 mins testing all the features - although it's an expensive keyboard - one gets to appreciate where all the extra expense goes! The sound is DIVINE from the on-board speakers compared to the P115 and the 3-band equalizer I think is going to be exceptionally handy for customizing the piano sound for each track I play with the band. The key action is noticeably better and you just get an all-round better response from playing. I actually got my P115 replaced a few weeks after buying it because of a vibration on the left speaker, so the music shop said they'd honor the 30 day return policy from that date so I can get a full refund against the P255 - so I think I am now going to swap it for the P255! My advice to anyone trying to decide between these 2 keyboards is really try them both extensively and get an appreciation for all the extra that the P255 offers before you decide whether the extra expense is worth it to you. The only downside is the extra weight (it's around 12lbs heavier than the P115) - but then that's only about the same weight as my cat ;)

    • @ePianoscouk
      @ePianoscouk  8 років тому +3

      +Wayne Joyce Thanks Wayne, P255 certainly is a nice bit of kit especially when playing live with a band, hope you enjoy it. Perhaps it's time to put your cat on a diet though? ;-)

I'm asking because there are reviews comparing the 2 pianos and they mentioned that the P-255 is for intermediate to advance players whereas P-125 is more suitable for beginners. I was wondering if there are any disadvantages for beginners to learn and practice on the P-255 vs P-125?

    When i tried both in the music store i noticed that the p115 sounded much lowder than the 255, is that ok? Or just a thing of the one the music had to try, both were at max level

    Your reviews are fantastic, thank you for making them! I do have a question though.
    The YDP-S52 seems to be nearly identical to the P-255 (similar price, GH w/ ivory). Could a comparison be done between these two? People interested in the P-255 may also want to also consider the YDP-S52. I'm having a hard time determining which is better and I'm looking to purchase one.

      +thisaintalex Yes, the specs are very similar, P225 probably just has the edge on quality of piano sample. However the S52 does have larger speakers which, if you're just playing at home, will make a difference. P255 is really designed as a stage piano, i.e. to be portable and taken out to gig with, S52 is more of a modern style of piano cabinet designed to stay in one place permanently. Hope this helps, I'll try and get a video up soon.

      +ePianos.co.uk Thank you for the swift response and for offering to put up a video. Mine would definitely be staying at home all the time. From your reply, the S52 seems to suit me better. The main aspect for me is the feel and action of the keys and both do great here for my price range.

    Would a Hanmond SK1 or a Nord 4D SW61 be viable for a beginner adult?
    Looking at these and hear amazing intense sound..will the P255 or 640B compare to those sound-wise?
    Trying to understand this better, would appreciate feedback!

    Can you turn off the internal speakers on the P-255 as you can on the P-115 or do they cut out when you plug into an external speaker or amplifier? Great presentation! Many thanks.

    Thankyou so much for this review! Just got one question, how is p255 in comparison to cp40? Whats the difference? And which one do you prefer?

    • @ePianoscouk
      @ePianoscouk  8 років тому

      +Esmee van Kampen P255 has a higher max polyphony (256) compared to CP40 (128) so P255 is better at being a piano. Also beware that CP40 does not have any speakers built in, you have to use external speakers or headphones, ok if you're gigging on stage with a band but not very convenient for home playing. Don't get me wrong, they're both great, but if it's just piano playing quality you're after then P255 has the edge in my opinion.

    Hi ! Thanks for your review, it was very helpful.
    Do you think a P255 is worth it if I already own a Clavinova CLP-430 (which I don't like much)?
    Or should I buy something better ? Thank you !

    • @ePianoscouk
      @ePianoscouk  9 років тому

      MathieuFerron Ooohh that's a good question! - If you were to try a P255 I think you'd notice it's more sensitive as the polyphony is double the CLP430, however the speakers are significantly smaller than CLP430 so it won't be such a big sound, if you use headphones or other speakers this won't be an issue. Also the key mechanism on CLP430 is the GH3 which is Yamaha's best feeling action, the one on P255 (GH) is still very good but not as refined. (P255 does have a nice synthetic ivory key though). If you don't mind the size of the CLP430 then why not look at the new CLP series which is the best Yamaha have made so far, the prices have come down too which is good news. I compared the first two in the range in this video: Yamaha CLP525 v CLP535 comparison - What piano should I buy? see what you think.

    Thank you for all of your comparisons of the P115. I would love a P255 but it is out of my budget right now. I was wrestling with getting the dgx 650 based on your comparison of it vs the p115, but I only want to play piano and nothing more so I ended up getting a used p115 for about 300£ (I am stateside otherwise I'd have bought from you!).
    Do you give piano lessons to visitors?

    • @ePianoscouk
      @ePianoscouk  8 років тому

      +Miss JenniferMarguerite Sounds like you made the right choice, glad to help. Above our store just outside Oxford we have teaching studios where people learn all sorts of instruments, piano, saxophone, drums etc, so yes we give lessons and also rent instruments. Many musical visitors to this area like to rent a keyboard to keep their practice up while they're on holiday too.

    Thanks for the comparison! How would you say this compares to the older CP33?

    • @ePianoscouk
      @ePianoscouk  9 років тому

      Justin Lin The P255 is a much better keyboard. The CP33 (which I have used for many gigs) was a handy little keyboard for gigging at the time (2008/9 from memory) but the specification is nothing compared to the P255, e.g the Polyphony was 64 and the P255 is 256, the same as the latest Clavinova range.P255 has taken all the good features from the CP33 like the 'live control' and made it better. CP33 is discontinued meaning it's no longer made, but you can probably buy a used one. Altogether the CP33 is old technology compared with P255.

    Are the wooden stands that make the piano look more substantial, expensive and easily transportable . We do comedy revue and used to use baby grands on stage but cost has become prohibitive and need a good portable electric piano that can also look the part on stage .

    • @ePianoscouk
      @ePianoscouk  7 років тому

      Yes they are easily transportable, it's just a case of unscrewing rather than folding them down. I have used them many times myself at gigs. You can see them here; www.epianos.co.uk/stands-27-c.asp

  • @DoubleGauss
    @DoubleGauss 6 років тому

    255 has a larger enclosure so naturally the sound is deeper. Longer wavelength standing waves. It's physics 101. Hook both to an external speaker. *Then* can you tell the difference ? That's the question.

    Hi, I live in the USA but in the end of this year I will be back to my country(Brazil) and I want to buy a keyboard here and take with me to Brazil. Because of the other things I will have to buy,(Case,Extra checked luggage,etc) I can't pay $1300 in a Keyboard, which is the price of the p255. I would like to know, in your opinion, what would be a good keyboard for me. I really liked the p255 but unfortunately I can't get it right now.

    • @ePianoscouk
      @ePianoscouk  9 років тому

      Vitor Lins If P255 is too much then P115 is half the price and a brilliant keyboard as you see in the video. Defiantly the best keyboard for under £500 I've seen. Good luck!

    I own an Motif XS8 with 2 Yamaha HS80, but it´s a large equipament, I need a most compact piano system and would like to sell my Motif and buy a P255. The use is not professional, just learning for me and my kids, do you think P255 is a good exchange for Motif?

    I have been enjoying your reviews/demos; they are a great help in researching a purchase. I noticed something (again) that I wanted to ask you about. I noticed on the P-115, when you first demonstrated the stings, there were some clunking, clacking key sounds. I should not I was listening in headphones, but I had noticed it without the headphones in some other demos as well. Now it sounds to my broadcaster's ear that you go from mic on to mic off (or at least the mic track muted) when you play and the piano is being recorded direct by aux input or other digital input to the camera or editing software. So I'm curious, are these key clunk sounds actually part of some of the samples on the 115 or is there something else happening to explain it. You did demonstrate the key sounds without volume, but the sounds I'm referring to are not the same. Just wondering..

    • @ePianoscouk
      @ePianoscouk  6 років тому

      Thanks Don, glad the videos have helped. From memory I used a single Zoom Q3HD mic positioned just out of shot for my voice and the piano, this didn't give the best mix during editing so I often had to turn the volume up for voice and down for piano, this probably accounts for the difference you hear when switching between them. I haven't heard of any problems, or noticed any with clacking keys on either of these models, but as you've guess from the video I reckon P255 is superior in almost every regard.

    • @VOmaker
      @VOmaker 6 років тому

      Ah! The live mic suggests that it might finger/fingernail noise that I'm hearing. If you were using a direct aux out to the camera, we wouldn't hear fingering noises. You can hear what I'm referring to at 1:15 when you first play the 115. (Interesting coincidence!) Either way, I think the two are darn close from what I hear on your "live mic" recordings. I like them both. Decisions decisions.
