Dude, make sure you grab that time with your dad before it’s too late. Mine died suddenly when he was 69, just after he retired. Don’t wait. You could do a great project video in Spain, take the family out there for a year. Life’s too short!

The steering wheel bolt was corroded on because the horn wiring has been shorting out inside the boss, electrically fusing the two metals together. The shorting is quite common since the insulation literally wears away as the wheel is turned. Congrats on getting it off without breaking anything.

When it comes to those style of sockets, there are some options. Were it me, I'd find a cheap socket with the correct OD, and mill the teeth onto it. Good call with opening the door.
You might look at jeweler's rouge or valve grinding compound for cleaning contacts. It's a little less aggressive than the steel wool. A set of connector disassembly tools might also be good. If you can pull the individual pins out of the connector, you can clean them too. Dielectric grease is your friend. I never go without it. I always sand grounds bare, then mount with dielectric grease on the surface. If it's not a part of the design, I generally fit a three point ground at the main cable. I find that makes things work better.

On my 308 the ventilation sliders just moved cables to control the air vents and the on-off water heater valve. The heated rear window switch was a rocker with an in-built warning light sited just to the side of the handbrake. I couldn't see from your video if it was present or not. If you don't have the hand book they are available on-line for free. I found a US spec one pretty quickly at www.manualslib.com/manual/467002/Ferrari-308-Gtb.html?page=26#manual. Hope that helps.

My next door neighbour, a garage owner, bought a Ferrari Testarossa in Italy, this was about 1988 or 1989. It was left hand drive and he changed it to right hand drive. One day he was driving it down narrow country lane and smashed the wing mirror off. Ferrari wanted £300 for a new wing mirror! GULP!
If you put £300 from 1989 through the Bank Of England online inflation calculator it comes out at £733 in 2018 money! GULP and double GULP! I gess running a Ferrari is not for those with shallow pockets!

Cleaning and redoing all the ground straps usually brightens up all the lights and reduces electric load on the alternator when you run defrost or air-conditioning. I've had a couple cars where the ac didn't work. I cleaned and replaced the engine ground straps for weak starting and incidentally discovered the ac trick and lights were much better.

    • @Ratarossa
      @Ratarossa  5 років тому +1

Tricky one, they are old but not cracked etc. The issue is they are TRX tyres and they are super expensive so i have a dilemma, yes they will be replaced before I actually start using the car BUT do I a)upgrade the wheels to the 16" version or b) Replace all 4 tyres ?
The cost for a set of 16' wheels + tyres cost the same roughly as a set of 4 TRX tyres.
So do I stick with originality or upgrade and also get much better modern tyres safety and traction ????

And if you aren't a complete purist, a guy in our local chapter (FCA) put 360 "starfish" wheels on his 308 and they, surprisingly, look *amazing*. Keeps the old school styling of the car lines, but gives it a modern twist that really fits since they are still 5-spokes. You know its kinda funny, a 308 Ferrari may not actually be the best sort of budget ferrari for a father son project, the 308 Dino might be, as I've heard they actually handle better than the 308 GTB/GTS series from Harry Metcalf, and also because their not the iconic type, people and prices dont go crazy for them, plus theirs the added bonus that Jeremy Clarkson didnt like it
as if he didnt like it, you know its a good car, I mean the list of cars he's bashed are all classics, and dont deserve to be forgotten, well outside of the morris marina, but even then.
also maybe a lambo urraco would be a good choice too, as out of the 3, 308 dino, GTB and GTS, while iconic in their bodywork, just arent that quick, while the urraco, I've never heard anyone say they were a minger.
but all that being said their is a guy in texas who can turn these things into supercars rather quickly, as I think the as seen under glass guy showed in one of his episodes earlier, so if he's got to have it, there is people who CAN make it fast, its just, sadly that caveat DOES exist with the 308 for a reason.
as the 308/328's were made with american market in mind, and were the ONLY ferrari's you could get for the longest time till the testarossa came around, hence why with all the emmisions and the fuel crunches the capability of the car is strangled because of that.
which is what you guys are suffering through right now thanks to that damn EU Sadly, like the sooner that gets broken up the better the worlds gonna be as a whole, as the last thing we need is another bunch of warsaw pact countries back up and running again
but regardless I must wonder what these things would do with some new larger webbers on them, as the early ones had 2 3 barrel webbers and a single 2, 1 per cylinder, fuel injection though, I dont know how you'd get more power out of that without scrapping the entire system.
so a carbed early car might be the best bet just from that standpoint, that way you can just find some new webbers or Holly carbs that are about 50 to a 100 CFM bigger, tune it up, and probably get an easy extra 40 HP out of it, which the car badly needs from what I know of them.
also try finecars dot cc, I used to browse that website all the time and they always have some of the craziest cars I've ever seen in my life on them, such as mel Blanc's Ferrari daytona spider, black with tan, absolutely stunning car (I kept the photos fyi lol) and that includes the occasional barn finds some of which I remember being at a decent price
hell I still remember coming across a series 1 lotus espirt for about 15/20 grand US, which is abit of a holly crap kinda deal, plus imagine that with a modern 4 banger in it from a latter lotus.
Also just one more thing, that car, did the euro specs have smog pumps, as if they didnt, and its a US spec car, it may still have it on there, and taking it off should help some of the pony's breath abit better.

You sound pretty English, so as you have used an irritating Americanism ie “What’s up, guys?” you might be able to tell me why you are asking if I (and “the guys”) have a problem? I can assure you from my end, that Nothing is Up, there is No Problem.
