I didnt even work in these conditions when I was 18 and had no money. Appreciate his enthusiasm but...a) why didnt you get a nice plate surround and use the existing holes b) is that plate even legal? c) warm the engine but go have lunch ie leave it fo an hour to drain down. If you are going to do lots of this stuff, get your self a car lift like this www.matthys.net/en/portable-scissor-car-lift-with-electric-release-capacity-2-7-ton-6793588 The main benefit is safety ie if your car slips, you are trapped and alone...you are fu**ed. And you will be able to use a socket at 90 deg to the plug with two hands....On a positive, my colleague thanks you for the service parts code for his 308 :-)
Before lockdown, I knew very little about Ferrari cars. 7 weeks in, and via links from one youtube channel to another, I've watched all 28 on the 308 today, and am fighting the urge to start accumulating tools. Thanks for the educational entertainment!
The old oil looked pretty clean! Also, a great tip I saw on another UA-cam channel was to use a hand pump to fill the transmission oil rather than long funnels etc. I got one called Lubrimatic fluid pump. Similar to a pump pack on a hand wash bottle. You just stick it in the oil bottle and pump away from below. So much easier.
Cool Spannering. I used to have an Escort Van 1.8D and the Fram Oil Filters I used listed Ferrari 308 on the applications - probably as close as I'll ever get :)
I sure hope more people hear about your channel. I’m amazed at how garbage channels for makeup or toy unboxing get legions of viewers and awesome channels with knowledgeable creators like this are still small. So, I’m sharing this as much as I can!
Both fluids draining were a lot cleaner than I expected. I would think those drain plugs should get changed to avoid thread damage from repeated removal.
There's a paradox about your channel that is puzzling, but delightful. Your accent and voice, though entertaining, is difficult to follow to a Texan in the US. However, the closed-caption on the videos you post is the best I have ever seen. Most channels use the automatic closed caption software, which is comically inaccurate most of the time, but yours is spot on. Thanks for that! 😁
I'm from Maine and I don't have any problem understanding him at all. It never even crossed my mind that an American would have any trouble with his accent.
I was a bit surprised that you didn't take it out for a spin before changing the gearbox and diff' oils as that would have made the process quicker, easier and more efficient!
Apart from a drive down the road before, the car hadn’t been driven. I had no idea how old most of the stuff was so didn’t want to risk. I just let it all warm up where I can keep a close eye on it
just an idea you could put some a sort of extension of your garage by putting some plexiglass over the rest of your driveway, and use the fence on the right for support.
I was happy to see you using MTL in the gearbox/diff. Seems to be a highly controversial topic as what to use. I put it in the box on my 87 Mondial, but found I had to add a couple of ounces of LSD additive to keep the diff quiet on hard cornering.
It seems to be the preferred fluid at the moment and after taking it for a drive I’m impressed with the feel on shifting. I’ve owned 4 308’s before and have to say this one after the service feels pretty good
@@Ratarossa I used it for the shifting qualities as well. Mine had NO second gear for about the first ten minutes of driving. MTL cured that. Four 308's? Most of us aspire to own one!, lol.
@@howardscott7521 Did you try the RedLine 75-90NS I"m in the process of deciding which oil to use in my 308 to solve the 2nd gear issue. Is the MTL preferred?
@@wjep767 I used the MTL after being advised by people who service these things for a living. I have never used the 75/90 so can't really comment on its effectiveness. God luck!
If there is a market for a company that sells aftermarket inspection kits for Ferraris, there must be quite a lot of Ferrari owners out there that do the service on their own. I really did not expect that. Thanks for the free shipping code, but my 1:18 scale Ferraris hardly ever get driven these days...
Amazing how you sound so cheerful when working outside on the ground in March in Berkshire rain! I am very spoiled working in my California garage with a vehicle lift :-)
Your hands on videos make me want to look for a Ferrari to work on. Have played with Mercedes and Porsche. Any suggestions on what model to start with?
Tricky one to answer chuck. Depends really on the type of era ferrari you prefer. The newer cars contain more and more computers that make it difficult. The older ones like this 308 are quite easy to work on or the cars of 15-20 years ago such as the 360-355-430 are all more useable and still good for doing diy jobs on
I HATE working in the rain like that. Most of the time, I didn't have a choice LOL. I keep thinking of things I would do if the car were mine...you will get some serious youtube mileage out of the 308 for sure!
You know I was trying to figure out why you left the drainplug off on the transmission and it just occurred to me, is it so theirs no air in the transmission after your done filling in addition to being able to see how much you've got in it given its not right at the bottom of the sump, but about 3 to 4 mm above it?
I use the same oil :) Love that stuff. How do you like the MDL? Does it really help with the cold second gear issue? That's what I've heard... You really hit all the important steps. Nice work ;) Really liked the over-tightened drain plug show and tell. Boy, that weather ;) Thanks for posting!
Great video? Do they ,- Superformance - ship to Sydney, Australia AS I have just purchased a Ferrari Fxxxk . . . RC model for my nephew. This Ferrari kit will come in handy as 4 year olds regularly smash and break things. ☺
When were the cam timing belts and tensioners last changed? Normally done about every 3-5 years. If one of those fail, your engine is ruined since it is an interference engine.
I'm livid that you only have roughly 40k subs... What is the internet's problem? It's like people hate great, educational, and original content. I don't know... I guess I'll just go weld something and look at the arc.
Probably not illegal. Remember the car is US Spec. There is a clause in U.K. law that says you can have smaller plates. If the bodywork would have to be modified. Which it does as it has US mounting points.
thanks for the discount shipping on the service parts.....now I just need a Ferrari to service!
Love the contradiction; working o a exotic car on the ground in the rain. Proper sidewalk mechanics! Godspeed!

you need to build a carport to cover that bit of driveway save getting wet

Those pumps are great. Used one on my DMC transaxle service. Means you can just buy one large can of oil as well.👍
Cheers Max for the tip. I will check it out, not heard of that before 👍🏻
I love the way that there isn't any attempt to hide a sponsorship or ad - a lot of 'tubers could learn from this

@7:45 can you clarify, is that a metric smidgeon or imperial? In the old days it used to equate to 17 1/3rd snifters, or 4/5ths of a tad.
Cambelt? Wouldn't want to drive it with a 20 year old cambelt. But great to see DIY servicing on a Ferrari 👍👍
Watch his previous vids he's done that

Great video Scott as this Ferrari needs a good Italian tune up now - loving seeing this project coming to fruition

Good work, but why no new sump gaskets before adding new fluids? Looks pretty moist under there!
20W50 is a mighty thick oil. Is that what is recommended in the service manual?

now you can help me !!
Ratarossa dude, I’d love to!
Is the free shipping only for the UK or does it cover All of Europe? Keep up the great work,
It covers everywhere
I don't bother with new crush washers. I use a dowty washer, never had a proble with one.
That car has more oil leaks than the Exxon Valdez and almost as much rust.!! Great to see it still going though.
Bit of rain in the transmission helps traction in the UK :p

What’s the story on the grey Ferrari in the garage??
It was also a non runner. Still need to start some real work on that
zerohecks. Which one, there’s rather a lot? Lol
Now give it to AmmoNYC and let him wash it !!
wow, so 8 spark plugs and a pollen filter cost an extra £140 on top of the standard service kit?
man get ur self an headholder for your cam, than u have 2 free hands.

I take it that the polished diamond plate wasn't stock.
That plate looks illegal. Do the police not care?
Depends if you get caught!!
Willem de Leeuw probably not that much right now! Being too small it doesn’t actually look that great where it mounts. Perhaps it’s only a temporary?

With the US spec rear panel an standard size plate is to wide and won’t fit. The plate lettering is correct size and generally that’s accepted
Yes I was surprised with the oil to.
You need a pop up tent.
Think you need a car port !!!!
Need a litre of Round Up on that drive too

where are the torque specs ? l

Love that 308! Touch of TLC and rust converter and it will be good for another 20.
That old engine oil was actually quite clean for 20 year old oil!
and the air filter was very clean too.
oil itself does not get old if not used much. The villain is water and oxidation. After that its the carbon products that turn the oil acidic.
Interesting video but these Ferraris are certainly not designed for ease of maintenance.
No views...Suely not first?
