  • This DIM DIY How To video is part 1 of 3 part series. It covers disassembly of a 2001 Dakota 2x2 46RE. We go things to check during tear down and what we need to beef up for towing and the power of the 408. As part of the series we will convert it from 2 wheel to 4 wheel drive and build an adapter for a Dana 300. We will then put it in a SCOUT II. This video applies to any 727 and its descendants including this 518/46RE-RH, 618's, etc.
In part 2 we go over the internal upgrades to make the 46re Heavy Duty and
we attach the 4X extension housing to the 518/46R*.
In part 3 we show how we modified a CJ Dana 300 to mate up with the 46Re 4X housing including how we made our own aluminum adapter plate (less than $40).
Please leave questions or suggestions in comments. Give us a thumbs up or subscribe to get a heads up on our other DIM DIY How To's. Thanks.
