Sony A6000 vs Sony A7IV NIGHT PHOTO SHOOTOUT
The question is, can you pick the difference and why? Please comment below. Be completely objective if you can tell the difference. I want to know if the Sony a6000 can hold up against the latest and greatest hybrid Sony camera the A7IV.
The Sony Alpha 6000 is a 24MP APS-C sized sensor and the Sony Alpha 7IV is a 33MP Full Frame sized sensor. These can be major factors in the image quality. But did it make a difference is actual real world usage?

I've own the a6000 since it first came out, and started to do professional film and photography works with it four years ago. Then upgraded to the ZV-E10 and now looking forward to own the FX-30. I still love the a6000 for its form factor and amazing capabilities, at the time it was simply a beast and it's great to see that it can produce amazing results even in today's standards. Thank you for your awesome videos!

I love that you still make videos with the a6000, now in 2022 it’s still the most popular beginner camera for photography, so it’s good to see someone make the best out of it. My main concern was the full frame difference but you seem to have made that almost irrelevant!
How is the autofocus in real life terms ? Does it compare to a DSLR at all ?

Great video! I’ve always said that it’s not the camera, but the skills of the person behind it that makes the magic! Nowadays everyone is obsessed with gear and camera specs, but in the end you can get amazing results if you know what you are doing. Instead of researching so much about gear, most people should spend their time instead in honing their skills about composition, lighting, exposure triangle, editing, and learning how to use all the settings on their camera. Also, having quality glass tends to be more important than the camera body.

Great video Jason, on your recommendation I purchased Viltrox 33mm 1.4 for my sony A6000, and its an amazing lens. Apart from low light video performance of a6000, I have no other major complaints. Will most likely upgrade to FX30 as I have invested too much in APSC lenses already. I hope you make more video on FX30.

Proof that hobbyists are wasting their money on incremental improvements. People really ought to stick with their hardware for longer than they think, maybe till it dies (in some cases). The main reason to drop the a6000 is the poor autofocus subject detection. Otherwise, it is a great camera.

Had to pixel peep a bit in the first set of photos, but it's quite clear that Camera A is the a7IV. In the very first set if you notice the right hand corner of all the close ups, there's a lot of artifacting and colour noise in the Camera B (a6000) shots, which isn't there at all in the Camera A shots. In the second set of photos, the depth of field was a giveaway as to what was what. Third set it was easily the skin tones and noise performance difference that made it evident. All in all, amazing video as always... Thank you for the great content. Currently filming with the a6400 (primarily videos), been thinking of upgrading to the FX-30 instead of the a7IV cause of the price difference.

Good comparison video! I love my a6400 but I've always been annoyed by its lack of IBIS when shooting in low light, and most of my lenses don't have OSS either. Therefore I'm still waiting for a new higher-end stabilized APS-C photo / video cam, hopefully Q1 next year. Please, Sony! a6600 doesn't cut it and FX30 is too cinema-oriented for my use case (and no EVF!). Keep up the good work, Jason.

I bought used A6300 as my first real camera at the beginning of 2021 and made dream come true by buying A7IV this month. I don't make money from photos or movies (at least not yet), it's one of my few hobbies. I did not really liked how it handled ISO above 800. Especially that I like making photos of birds and I crop often. It quickly lost detail and colors and contrast, picture were becoming bluish. However, it could still do for "normal" photos, like photographing people. However, even at YT you can see, that ISO 6400 is very, very grainy. At low ISO it's hard to notice the difference at YT video, especially if photos are not placed side by side (maybe we could have that in the future videos?).
Can't wait for video comparison, I suspect that AF and lack of image stabilization will be a huge factor, so it would be nice if we could see it also in conditions where you eliminate both of them.

  • @trekkeruss
    @trekkeruss Рік тому

I own neither camera, but I use the A7III, which I love enough that I recently got another, just to make my work a bit more efficient. I didn't compare the images, partly because I need cataract surgery, but also because I think image quality is largely oversold. Also, maybe I was too distracted by Joanna. LOL.
For me, camera choice is less about image quality, and more about the other things a camera also has to do. I also think lenses, lighting, and processing has a much bigger effect on image quality than the bodies themselves.

Interestingly, I find low light capabilities of my 6500 really really subpar. The noise at ISO 6400 makes the photos unusable unless you don’t need to crop at all (or maybe just a tiny bit).
And this is kinda important, because people would watch that video and see no diff, while in real life they won’t be able to get decent photos without a flash and flash is not that people want at a party, it annoys people, makes taking photos very obtrusive.
An interesting topic, but the video hasn’t covered much of it. While not pixel pip? Why not compare jpegs? Etc etc etc

I started my photography career 1.5 years ago with the Sony a6000... The great thing is that the amount of money you have to invest to get into photography is so low compared with the high-end gear, and the results are comparable. There are some quality of life advantages from getting the newest gear... But money usually is the most important factor. I've done photography and video for sport events, clubs, portraits... And I only invested less than 2k, the body being the cheapest part almost.
