Excellent comparison video! I had an a6000; skipped the a6300, as I didn't see enough incremental improvement, and went for the a6500 as soon as it came out. The a6400 has some cool upgrades... but I'll stay where I am until the mythical a7000 makes an appearance :)

Thank you for another informative video. I bought a A6000 as well as a 1.8/35 prime lens last year after watching your videos, and I really enjoy the quality of the pictures.
I use a5100's for my content creation, the upgrade path for me would definitely be an a6400. I want the tilt screen and touch focus ...I've become used to those features on my a5100's. Enjoyed this video, its nice to see the range Sony offers compared.
'Better color science' is only a half truth about the A6400. Its JPEG processing renders better colors than the others here, but RAW performance is exactly the same.
Color science isn't an issue if you shoot RAW because post-processing. Also if you use Capture one instead of lightroom Capture one reproduces better results imo.
Yeah I don't really understand why you would bother with jpeg on these cameras when shooting RAW requires no extra effort and yeilds greater flexibility for edit. Even if you don't like doing a lot of editing you can just hit Auto in Lightroom and be done with it
@@artemisfowl9002 I feel its the same people saying Sony has bad color sc8ence but adobe just doesn't decode it better than capture one. It truly is a gem. Ever since started using it I have not had a single issue. Plus it performs much better than the laggy Lr on my PC.
Was planning to purchase my first camera and was torn between canon and nikon.. and then I came here and totally feĺl inlove with sony. But It's sooo out of my budget 😫. I would definitely buy one of these in the future. This is the best review I've seen on youtube 👌

Amazing guide! Thank you!! It helped a lot. An important information: the Sony A6000 doesn't have a mic jack! I'd like to learn filming in nature, also in low light. I don't know much about cameras but after a few weeks of research, I found the Sony A6000. It seems to be the perfect cam...or almost perfect. I want a camera that I can use for years. I'll might need 4k, the microphone jack and a somewhat weatherproof body in the future, so obvious, I have to pick the A6300. The problem is that I'm low on money, and the price difference between the A6000 and the A6300 is so huge! (... at least in the country where I live) Then it makes more sense to pick the A6500 or A6400. But they are all too expensive for me. So I'm stuck between the A6000 that I don't dare to buy due to the lack of features, and the A6300 that I wish, would be with a price closer to the A6000.
Regarding silent shooting it's also worth mentioning that the a6300 & a6500 shoots 3 FPS with silent shutter, but the a6400 shoots up to 11 FPS with silent shutter.
What lens do you recommend for a 1st time entry level, lookin to get HQ pics and vids of me and my family for memories.. or is the included lens for $1000 with the a6400 good enough?
Dead Pool I got my camera while I was in film school. I don’t believe they still make the fs100, but even used it is a great camera. I did a review of it on my channel if you want to check it out.

Great and very objective review! I ended up buying the a6500 because I used to have an NEX-5N which I used with many vintage lenses and the IBIS feature on the a6500 made it a no-brainer. I also do a lot of Formula 1 photography, so the buffer was a big plus. If Sony made a 6400 with a bigger buffer and IBIS I would have bought it in an instant, but I guess that may be an a6600 some time soon.. One last killer feature for me was getting a bundle on Amazon that included the excellent 18-135mm lens at a bargain price which was great for a recent trip of a lifetime to South America holiday ... I couldn't afford to carry all the vintage lenses on that trip, but that one lense proved pretty capable for all my needs.
Thank you for this review. I have been struggling to decide which camera to buy for my daughter who is studying to become a fashion MUA and needs a decent camera to take photos for her portfolio. I impulse purchased the A6400, though I had been watching the A6300 and A6500. It still doesn’t make much sense to me that the A6400 is the later release by 3 years over the A6300 and A6500. The 180 deg screen, the fast AF speed, the resolution and battery life swayed me towards the A6400 and your video has confirmed my research. You have certainly helped me to burst through the jargon, which I really don’t understand.
I was set on getting one of Canon's 6d's but my friend told me to check out the Sony A600 series. I can say without a doubt you've convinced me to get an A6400. Great breakdown of the pros and cons and why I would pick one over the other all while factoring in our budget. I was set on each one until you moved to the next step up lol
Love your videos but can you do some of these topics 1. Best budget lens for the a6400 2. Best editing software free and paid 3. Best lens for portrait and wide angle images.
Great breakdown and explanations. Thank you! Last November I bought a6000. At the time I ended up trying it out for a couple of months before returning it because I felt I didn’t have the time to truly learn & appreciate it. Your videos then were very helpful in guiding my selection. Fast forward to today & I am eager to get Sony A. Looks like I will be very seriously considering A6400 after this thorough break down & comparing it to my needs. Mahalo again Mark!🤙🏽

I own an a6000, a6500 and now the a6600. I use them for product photography 99% of the time. Finally, Sony got the colors right with the a6600. Trust me, people know what the colors of their products are supposed to look like and now I can duplicate them, accurately. Now, at about $1200, the price is right and I couldn't be happier with it. As always, I relied on your videos to make my selection.
After watching all your Sony videos l decided to go for the a6400, I choose the sigma 16mm , im a little afraid to take move shots, is my first camera in my life, thanks
nice combination, I would usually do 1080p 60fps for handheld video then slow it down for smoothness, f1.4 will help increase shutter speed in photography
I already bought the a6300 in Jan 2019(bad timing !) . The a6400 was released next month. However, most of the advantages of a6400 over a6300 are in video , for which a Gopro 8 or something similar would also provide , l guess !! Let me know your opinion .
No on the gopro 8 substitute. Gopro has a fixed fish eye wide angle lens which is only nice in certain situations and it performs badly in low light. Not sure about the battery life and storage capacity on the 8 but previous versions weren't good.
I carry two a6000s for landscape photography for the last 3 years. What I'm wondering is if I would see a substantial improvement in image quality with the a6400. Auto focus is always an issue when shooting events on the water. Had considered A7ii, but didn't really see that much of a gain and the price in FE lenses. A7iii is way out of the budget. Thanks, Love your inputs
Hi, I own the A6100. Autofocus is amazing for animals. Black eyes on black fur - no issues. The A6400 should have the same AF performance. And the weather sealing of the A6400, unnecessary for most, great to have outdoors
I've had the A6000 for 4 to 5 years and it's a great camera. Just thinking about getting another body and this video has been great explaining the variations. I would like the 6500 with IBIS as the 30mm macro lens doesn't have in-built stabilisation and I sometimes use my old Nikon lenses with an adapter but the eye A/F of the 6400 would be useful for grandchildren. I think I need an A 6450!! Great video, thank you very much.
I got the a6500 two weeks ago and wasn't disappointed at all. Trust me, the Ibis really helps, specially if you use a zoom lens like the 18-135. Also, I don't miss the flippy screen as i don't really plan on using this camera for vlogging. Here is a short clip I made the first time I used it: ua-cam.com/video/XvfzMV55jzg/v-deo.html
Thank you for the detailed comparison. I was about to buy A6400 but one thing disappointed me that Sony has stopped Playmemories App support for the new 6400 and 6600. That's bad because you cannot add features like focus stacking, multi exposure, etc. anymore which other brands like Panasonic, Olympus and Fujifilm has built-in.
@@TomRipley7350 Actually, I've learned how to set up the shots correctly in the camera. You have to be shooting w/ Picture Profile settings turned on otherwise in Post it won't be as optimal. Shooting in Auto and SCN can be good under certain situations but all other situations really require say Manual mode!! The thing is, if you are shooting auto and SCN an A6000 eq. would be suffice w/ the right lens but when you start stretching the field into Super wide capabilities, the A6000 eqs. can't do it!!
@@antdx316 I appreciate what you say. My reason for returning it was as purely financial. I now use my old A5100 as my B camera, the A6400 as my A camera and I have three lenses to vary my shots. I loved the A73 but only having the kit lens was restrictive, plus the size was a little cumbersome. Also, I don't know if you had the same problem, but I could never get the skin tones right on it.
UA-cam University is awesome. Thanks for all your breakdown videos. And thanks for changing your name. Technology Mafia didn't fit you AT ALL. Keep up the great work
Will get the A6400 and return my A6000 for two reasons only: 1) No overheating. 2) No recording limit. I will use an external audio recorder along with the A6400 on a stand to film our gigs (roughtly 2*50 minutes), and then this becomes the only viable option. I did however consider the point of IBIS in 6500, but seeing your comparisons between 6400/6500 using OSS and IBIS (or both together) I am convinced that 6400 fit the bill since I mostly will be doing still video regardless. The lense stabilization should be just fine. And by the way, this will be my first "real" camera ...
You earned a subscriber with this one. Really great work there brother. You really took your time to go through it all. The UA-cam beginners association extends their regards. cheers!!
I have the a6000 and recently got the a6400 because of your video recommendation. I actually wanted the Leica Q2 because of the weatherizing with a fixed lens. But, $5000 was a bit much. So, I got the 6400 with lens I wanted, and will never take it off to prevent dust from getting into unwanted places. Thanks! you saved me 4 grand. I also went from Canon to Sony. BUT I LOVE CANON! Perhaps the most well made videos I've ever seen on UA-cam. Well organized, structured and informative comparison video. Obviously you put a lot of thought and preparation into this, all for your viewer's benefit!
Thank you for helping me with this decision. It's so tough to know where is the best place to put your money with a camera. I thought the 6400 would be very good and this video just swayed it for me :) thanks
also congrats on 100k subs!
The content presentation here was top quality. I really enjoyed watching/listening. You made some fantastic points that buyers should consider. Very concise. Thank you for doing this!
One of the best reviews I have ever seen, not just for cameras but for anything
Excellent comparison video! I had an a6000; skipped the a6300, as I didn't see enough incremental improvement, and went for the a6500 as soon as it came out. The a6400 has some cool upgrades... but I'll stay where I am until the mythical a7000 makes an appearance :)
I have the a6000 too and considering getting the 6400. Wondering if you've noticed any low-light improvements going from the 6000 to the 6500. Also any slight picture quality differences?
I got an a6300 and a gimbal for the same price as the a6500 and I'm set. Now my friends want a gimbal because IBIS isn't the best in-camera.
@@StarOasis26 No particular improvements in either of those categories for a6500 over a6000. If I was choosing now, I'm honestly not sure which I'd go for!
@@scottyzepplinphotography1188 Cool - whatever suits. I love the in-camera IBIS on the a6500 for use with my manual focus lenses - I don't shoot video at all, so a gimbal would be overkill for me.
This was probably the best comparison video ever!!! Thank you so much!!! Please make moreeee
Great buyers guide! Best Sony alpha channel out there buddy!
finally someone helped me make a decision for my future camera for youtube content and my business. Thank you so much. We'll look at your other content right away. liked and sub. love from France
Thank you for another informative video. I bought a A6000 as well as a 1.8/35 prime lens last year after watching your videos, and I really enjoy the quality of the pictures.
YEAH I EVE SAW THAT VIDEO TO BUY BUY a6300 BUT HAVENT BUYED... NOW IM GONNA BUY a6400 THANK U TECHMAFIA FOR THE INFO
I literally did the same thing. Very happy with that decision :)
Yes, but half too. Video has no raw.
Even if you don't like doing a lot of editing you can just hit Auto in Lightroom and be done with it
@@scottyzepplinphotography1188 capture one pro truly is a hidden gem, feel sorry for those still using lightroom
I'm gonna buy A6400 because of this buying guide. Thanks
Excellent video, extremely well explained, thank you so much. I actually thought the a6500 was the latest product and the pricing was confusing the hell out of me. Thanks again for this excellent video!
Been shootings weddings for 4 years with my a6000. Never an issue!
Did u use other lens than the lens kit?
@@khyimful shot with the 50mm 1.8, the 16mm pancake, and a 90mm macro. The kit lens stayed in the bag!
Perfect review as always. I bought my a6k in 2014. Recently I have a problem with my on/off button. My camera just could not be shutdown. Whenever I put in the battery it will start the camera automatically without even using the on/off button. The only way to shut it down is by removing the battery. Any suggestion ?
TechMafia, your rocks. Always been a plessure to watch your reviews and videos. Clear presentation for a non english speaking like myself.
Absolutely phenomenal video. Answered all of my questions. Great content.
I arrived here from Grace Torres channel. I am a website developer webdesigner for photographers, so it's nice to see your channel :)
One of the best video I have seen. Many people out there are still confused of sony apsc choice. You just nailed it.
This is probably the most informative comparison video I’ve seen so far 🔥
Thank you, I’ve had my eye on the A6000 for a while, so it’s helps having a review on the other ones in that line.
I've owned a Sony FS100 for over 5 years now. Just purchased an a6300 for $540 to pair with my FS100 and add 4K resolution. I appreciate this video.
GHMEFilms do you get your cameras from amazon?. I don’t want to get a used camera
Dead Pool I got my camera while I was in film school. I don’t believe they still make the fs100, but even used it is a great camera. I did a review of it on my channel if you want to check it out.

Such a helpful video. I wish i had seen it about a month ago. It would have saved me hours of research, watching videos and reading articles. It’s going to be a6400, my first ever camera to learn photography on!!! Thanks a ton.
Yesterday I went to bed when you had 99k, congratulations! Now you have over 100k!!!

@@mirrorlessny 115F in the summer.
@@cartherapywithharperpeters7013 I'm assuming slow motion is a priority as well? Sounds like a demanding environment, a6600 is the least I would pick, but in this heat A7S3 is probably the most reliable option as it has good thermal design & great video recording options like 4k120fps, maybe in future I should make a test video on hot summer day with A7S3
thank you fot reviewing sony camera ... compering between them what to buy, what not to buy. it was amazing to listen and i hv clearly know about all sony camera that u hv explained it...
This is one of the best UA-cam channels I have subscribed too. Not less not more..just perfectly balanced. Most important feels that I am really getting an authentic advice from a Pro and that's the most important thing for me. Keep it up 💜 India
I was set on each one until you moved to the next step up lol
great guide as usual Arthur and congrats on 1 million views!
Love your videos but can you do some of these topics
1. Best budget lens for the a6400
2. Best editing software free and paid
3. Best lens for portrait and wide angle images.
@@jimidgaffigan8731 you totally destroyed this man's career 😂
Great breakdown and explanations. Thank you! Last November I bought a6000. At the time I ended up trying it out for a couple of months before returning it because I felt I didn’t have the time to truly learn & appreciate it. Your videos then were very helpful in guiding my selection.
Fast forward to today & I am eager to get Sony A. Looks like I will be very seriously considering A6400 after this thorough break down & comparing it to my needs. Mahalo again Mark!🤙🏽
Hey , i am going to buy a new dslr and i am confused between nikon d5600 or sonya6000. I am buying dslr for my hobby purposes. My hobby is photography and travel vlogs plzzzz help me which one should i go for
Romit Raut the sony alpha series isnt dslr, those are all milc (mirrorless interchangeable lens camera)
If its only for hobby purposes i would get the a6000 or a6300, no need to go above that!
I bought an a6300 just a day before the a6400 was launched 🤗
Of all the videos out there, yours was the absolute most helpful! Super detailed and you didn't run on and on about nonsense. Love it!
Don’t worry about your videos being too long they’re totally watchable. Some people make six minute videoed that feel like they’re being drug out but this one does not feel extended a single bit
One of the best reviews so far!!! Awesome Man!! Great Work!!
Best review out there on this series. Thanks a lot!
You can use a color checker as a control in studio. Shoot a test shot under your lighting conditions. Then use the color checker correction tool
I just bought the a6400. This video was very helpful in my decision. Thanks!
How are you liking it so far?? Im gonna try to pick one up on cyber Monday, hoping the price goes down a bit
GoPro got them mad overheat ☹️

One of the best reviews I have ever seen. Keep it up!
Thanks,
Love your inputs
Hi, I own the A6100. Autofocus is amazing for animals. Black eyes on black fur - no issues. The A6400 should have the same AF performance. And the weather sealing of the A6400, unnecessary for most, great to have outdoors
Finally I found a comprehensive guide comparing these cameras. Great work!
You can do eye tracking with the a6000. It's a bit complicated but possible. Search UA-cam for tuto
Thank you for taking the time to provide great information on why you would pick a camera the good and the bad bits. Help many of us...
I got the a6500 two weeks ago and wasn't disappointed at all. Trust me, the Ibis really helps, specially if you use a zoom lens like the 18-135. Also, I don't miss the flippy screen as i don't really plan on using this camera for vlogging. Here is a short clip I made the first time I used it:

Thank you for the detailed comparison. I was about to buy A6400 but one thing disappointed me that Sony has stopped Playmemories App support for the new 6400 and 6600. That's bad because you cannot add features like focus stacking, multi exposure, etc. anymore which other brands like Panasonic, Olympus and Fujifilm has built-in.

I got an A7 III but to be honest.. I probably would have been better off getting an A6000 used. It's really all down to the lens not the body.
@@antdx316 I learned that lesson and sent my A73 back.
