Grom Mods - Chimera Intake - Power Commander V - Worth it?

  • Assuming you're already running an aftermarket exhaust and are considering purchasing the chimera air intake and Power Commander 5, I use a set of speed runs to determine whether or not these Mods are worth the money. See the results for yourself.
    Mods discussed in this video:
    Yoshimura Exhaust (I use this): amzn.to/32JqCxb
    Chimera Intake: Chimera Intake (I use this): amzn.to/3eRI5pJ
    Dynojet Power Commander 5: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07...

    *Thanks 'CT Gromer'. Great review! HONDA Grom ex Honda MSX. The first bike, flat-foot that I felt comfortable riding after my latest TKR (Total knee Replacement) Left Knee 2020. Than was the 5th TKR operation. Four on the Right Knee. Primary TKR failed in 2014 Stockholm, Sweden failed resulting in a almost chronic, deep infection around the implant. 2018-19, finally after a two-stage revision here in Bangkok, Thailand. Thai orthopaedic surgeons are world class. Maybe, because of the many motorcycle accidents! The orthopaedic residents perform a lot of "Nailing & Plating". Anyhow, I never thought that I would own/ride a bike in Bangkok (traffic) Later, I did test a scooter VESPA 300 GTS, automatic, of course. But "swing a leg" I thought that's impossible! Anyhow, the dinky HONDA Grom was the motorbike that changed my mind and I almost bought one. But, then finally I decided to buy a "flat-foot" cruiser, easy rider instead. But that's another story. Here my GROM video. I do like the name far better than MSX ('Mike, Sierra , X-Ray)* ua-cam.com/video/SH3hCvVxf5E/v-deo.html

      All those things are true, and definitely in the "pros" column when debating whether or not to change to an after market intake. Unfortunately it's also super restrictive! It sounds like you value reliability over performance, which is fine! Thanks for commenting!

    Very informative video! Earned my sub. Thanks for posting. I ride a 2015 Grom in Canada. I moded the air box only (removed the snorkel, restrictor plate and internal tube) I run 89 octane. I consistently get up to 124kph (77mph) and saw 129 once. I ride it pretty hard and would like to get a few better tuned parts such as you show in the video. I've heard of people reflashing the stock computer instead of a power commander or the like. Do you have any experience with that?

    • @CTGromer
      @CTGromer  4 роки тому +1

      Well I very much appreciate you watching and the sub! Thank you. Yes, I do have experience with running a reflashed ECU and recommend it better than PCV because it's much cheaper! I'm actually running one currently on my 2015. DHMotoring does a reflash package for $105, for someone like you that wants to go a little faster on the top end, i'd really recommend the DHM Reflash + CAM package. I did a video on it actually not too long ago, check it out if you want. Best bang for your buck I think, and install was not hard: ua-cam.com/video/t7xqQPafvF8/v-deo.html

    Wow seeing the results with the top and speed and 0-55 this convinces me the the intake mod only gets you the best bang for your bucks. Amazon has multiple air intakes from $33 to $149 for the Chimera and you can spend more but all are about 3" induction with filter.

      I really appreciate the compliments brother, thank you! I'll keep the content coming! Man, airbox MODS - anything keeping the airbox is a gray area, but you're probably ok with stock ECU. Once you go to a true performance intake such as a Chimera, dingerbuilt or DHmotoring, you'd definitely need some sort of fuel richening. By far the cheapest way to do it is to go to dhmotoring.com and pick up one of his re-flashed ECUs for just over $100.

    A powercommander, bazzaz or any fuel controller doesn't necessarily increase performance. You could even lose a few hp after a tune. They aim is solely to get the air/fuel ratio or mixture right. I'd also recommend getting a custom map for your specific bike. Each bike is different even with the same exact parts on. There's a lot of parameters generic maps doesn't take into account, so a custom map on a dyno is definitely a must.
