This is How I Made My Honda Grom FASTER | Intake & ECU Flash

  • After 3 Years of owning my Honda Grom (MSX 125) it was time to finally squeeze a little more power out of the 125cc engine! To my surprise, it was noticeable fast(er) and louder after installing the intake and reflashed ECU!
I understand that using words like “power” and “faster” can raise a few eyebrows when referring to a Honda Grom. This is not a fast bike. However, there are a few things you can do to extract more power out of this mini bike engine. After having (only) and exhaust, I wanted to do it right by adding a Dinger Built Intake and a CJR ECU flash! The intake sound and throttle response is the best this bike has seen!
The Dinger Built Short Ram intake for the Honda Grom and z125 is Dyno proven to add a slight bump in horsepower and torque. Combined with a Cameron Jones Racing ECU reflash, the new ECU timing can make the intake & exhaust safer and and more powerful. The Grom now has a higher redline, a 91 Octane tune, and NO check engine lights! Truly a OEM style plug and play setup for the Grom. I give you guys a couple 0-60 pulls and some Grom top speed runs!
I also show you guys my new functional side vents for the Grom that show off the K&N intake and hopefully provide cooler air to the bike. Unfortunately the Dobek Performance EJK didn't work out for me and things like the Power Commander V and Aracer were a little out of my budget. If I didn't go with the CJR ECU flash, I would have most definitely went with the Finbro ECU and Injector setup.

100mph is high for that wheelbase but it's not too hard to reach

I just started watching grom videos like maybe 2-3 days ago. I’m planning on getting a new 2020 grom here in the next month. I was thinking about swapping the engine and throwing a Koso 170cc Big Block with 4V Head and doing the intake and ecu. This video showed up on my recommendations and I’m glad it did. Congrats on your upgrades! This just made me want to get it even more. 🤙🏻

Yup fantastic wee film Anthony. The thing is with the wee Honda Grom parts are cheap and don't cost a fortune. The up grade to your bike is very straightforward and I dare say most people can do themselves. It's an easy bike to work on with out must hassles. The brill thing was you noticed a big difference in performance as well. Which is even better news after your simple modes. Love the wee Honda grom and thinking about buying one myself. That's why I love watching these small films on how to boost things up abit.

They look pretty cool. I am currently on a Triumph Speed Triple. This would be an absolute shock to my system!! My wife on the other hand has never ridden. Tossing the idea of selling/trading my Speedy for 2 Groms. 9 hp makes my guts tighten. We just bought a camper a couple months ago. The idea is the ability to toss both in the back of our truck and tool around where we go camping or buzz around town. We also have tons of UTV trails around us. We are in the Midwest. Do you think I would have tremendous buyer’s remorse? Again, it’s to get my wife riding and another thing for us to do together. I ride solo now and don’t really like it. I like riding with someone. Great video!! Thoughts??

To get more speed on small bikes in my mind adding "better" exhaust and intake gives a little more top end power but no extra rpm so it will be a tad more powerful when your wrist is snapping itself wide open. The real benefit would come from increasing low down torque and changing sprockets so you can get there quicker and still have the same or better top speed. How often are you wide open vs accelerating🤔

    • @brotangyoust9252
      @brotangyoust9252 5 років тому +1

@Michael Davis that's what makes these kind of bikes the most fun is the acceleration. I mean they aren't really built for really high speed anyway. Popping wheelies and that's where the funs at I think.

14t sprocket. So presuming the speedo to be accurate you got 62.5 at an indicated 67 and 67.2 at an indicated 72.
Because of the way a grom engine dumps torque at higher rpm you probably only just about got it's stock top speed back. You will have a little better acceleration in gear but overall lowering gearing on a 4spd bike which can't rev isn't the best idea.

    • @pupkorn7111

The mpg would decrease slightly, when you install a full exhaust and an intake, the air to fuel ratio is lean. There is more airflow than the stock ecu outputs. So you would see maybe a 3-6 mpg decrease with the power? This my personal guess with the experience I have.

Im happy with it all stock. Guess I’m weird. But I do have a ZX14 if I want to go fast.

  • @ProDigit80

I doubt the air intake does a lot on top speed. The stock airbox is good enough for 20% above stock airflow.
I would swap out the sprockets to get higher top speed (on GPS).

in thailand we made it run 80 mph/ 130+ kmh
Grom has so much more potential
you can push it harder ;)

for the race it's ez 160+ for 125cc and 150cc
asians like us live with small bike to push it hard enough
but for the street use i'd say 130+ is the best number for fast and reliable
we TH don't have luxury of variety
like PH MA or IN kinda jealous that you have the hands on many bike that we dream of
      Y15R Ultraman edition as example
hope one day our market will be the same someday.

But yet I still like Honda XRM first gen with a 110cc though, Its reliable and has a high RPM rate simple change the Cam, Carburettor, front and rear sprocket and rear shock and you can dust moder 110cc,125cc and ever 150cc if your tuning is right.

How is oyur gas mileage looking after this? Like, can you ride for however long you need to from full to just barely empty, and then take the miles you went (Using a Trip meter on odometer) and divide that number by 1.45 (Gas tank on Grom) and let us know what that number is? The average mpg for a 2015 Honda Grom (Assuming that's what it is, video is 2019 and description says 3 years) is 101.45 according to Fuelly (website)
and just wondering if these mods brought the MPG down drastically or just a little bit.

for a 125cc here in PH, 67mph is like running a stock scooter in flats, we can do something about that, like running 120kph's(gps read) with just a little mods
port, camshaft, valve springs and injectors or carburetors with no bore up or stroke same as adding conrod pin Height

It needs a turbo to big for the bike. Next mod put a big ass turbo on it. The inners of the engine don't matter the loud bang and lack of rpm doesn't matter.

After adding the cold air intake, new flashed ECU, and running premium unleaded. What kind of MPG are you getting. Just got my 2018 grom abs Wednesday(brand new). 1st time rider, after getting way more experience I'm thinking about engine mods.
