You got it! It's the way I am and I've loved these cars since I was a kid! Just couldn't leave them behind. It actually took about 5 years to get them all. Later Buddy 👍
Merry Christmas Don! Thank you for sharing this video ! Its a real Christmas treat to see this red Nomad and I really appreciate your passion on these tri 5s ! I look forward to more of your channel in the New Year!
I'm sitting here new years eve watching this (I'm 70). Breaks my heart as a former Nomad owner, mine was a '56, to see Nomads so deteriorated. Please save as much as possible. Interior roof chrome ribs, tailgate, bumper, etc. A talented metal guy could replicate sheet metal panels from them. I know crazy, crazy like you are. I could not let them sit there like that. Wish I still had my '56.
That's a serious project for a die hard tri five fan ..... lots of time /bodywork involved .... can be done . Lots of patience ... you make something to weld to , the build it from that .....she deserves some love .... they're not out there . Save it ... plus , the trim looks pretty complete ...
There is always somebody out there that loves these old classics and has the time, patience and money to invest in bringing them back to life. The yellow one may wind up being a parts car to salvage the skin from but if one has to "die" so that the others can live, that's what the hobby is all about. SAVE 'EM, RESTORE 'EM, DON'T CRUSH 'EM!
It is a serious project to say the least. I hope there's someone just wanting a challenge like this. It's worth the time even if it never becomes a show car and ends up being a hot rod. That would be cool. Merry Christmas
Love your quote. "I don't know, but I guess when you're dealing with junk; junk is junk". Very nice of you to save theses Nomads. If you don't fix them, they certainly can serve as parts cars for someone else.
its very sad to see these once beautiful 1955 chevy nomads in such poor condition. the nomads were the elite station wagons of their times. those angled windows were unique to the nomads. just so happens to be my most favorite cars of all time. i have seen advertisements and photos of nomads in showrooms from the 50s AUTOMOTIVE JEWELRY. when these are restored they are just stunning especially the two tone colors. hope they get a second chance at life. thanks so much for showing us these 2 legends.
I'm 66 years old and I keep telling my son stop spending money on these new cars, get any tri 5, put money into it, restore it, and you'll be great full for my advice
Merry Christmas, Don to your family. Nice find, and you're one of a kind saving these cars. You are also a true Nomad lover like me. I'm glad we met and shared the same nutty passion.
Merry Christmas Harvey! Yup I've always thought I was one of a kind. And your right we are both True Nomad lovers indeed! I'll get with you on the side stainless and liftgate hinges. Later Buddy 👍
Merry Christmas to you and your family Big Don. Man i gota thank you for being such a stand up guy and going to the trouble of saving these Nomads brother!! No maybe they cant be saved but at least you went to the effort of getting them in a safe place and figure out later just what is the best route to take with them. Lots of good parts on them that i'm sure there is somebody out there looking for them...Thanks for making this video on Christmas day, nice present for us to see... Take care...
well im with ya, for what your doing with the Nomads. Loved them as a punk kid and love them when im old. of course hardtop and post cars are neat also. thank you for your help
THANK YOU Don for saving these cars! They didn't go to the crusher because of the first guy, and they didn't go to the crusher because of you! Now someone can save them, or at least have lots of Nomad only parts; to save another car! That's how it works, working together! 😀
Don,, I sure love watching your videos, I had a 55 for years, hit on some hard times and had to let her go. I have always thought like you do,, they are by far and away head and shoulders above any other car…. You talk about how you are different,,,,, thank god you are!! Keep up the great work !!
Took an Amtrak train to California last year. Saw a farm yard with 15+ cars. 1955-1957 Chevy's. Some in loafing sheds and some outside. It was along the tracks in Utah. Saw another full of Jeeps. Nice and dry there.
Amen Don, great video! I am glad you were able to get all 5 of them! This one needs a Nitro Garage or DD Speed Shop to get their hands on it and swap out all the rusty panels with fresh metal to save this one further! Gypsy Red and Shoreline Beige or India Ivory is my favorite paint combo too. Howie's Hardtop is an original Gypsy Red/Shorline Beige V8 Janesville car. Interesting to see the vent holes on the seat. With these cars being such a radical change in late '54, I could see where there would be mid year production changes and '55 had quite a few! I am also glad you posted all the pictures of the 5 Nomads too! The Cashmere Blue one was the most memorable to me with it being collapsed on the frame. I had never seen anything that bad before! It will be real interesting to see the fate of the gypsy red one. The harvest gold Nomad would be some interesting yard art or to use portions of it as a wall hangar. Thanks for rescuing these 5 rare cars! I hope you guys had a blessed Christmas! Take care!
Hey Jeff! It sure would be interesting to see what Dan could do or the Nitro garage! I had to save them all if only for the parts. It took me 5 years to get them all! Really cool to think Howies 55 is a original red and white car. From Wisconsin it made a nice trip to California! I'd love to know what reason for the holes along the bottom of the seat but there is not much out there. That cashmere blue nomad was mega ruff but somehow the roof stayed on till I got home. Merry Christmas Buddy 👍
Thanks for saving what you can. I myself have saved several like those & moved them on to a professional who could handle the work. I still have two 55 nomads
55 is my favorite, too. It's my dream car. Glad you are saving all the ones you can. Can't wait to see your convertible finished. Keep up the good work. Merry Christmas to you and your family Don.
Being what it is, to the right person, that could be saved. A pile of money, and a pile of welding wire, would get it done. I’m a pretty die hard Ford guy, but it’s hard for me to deny the beauty of a 55 Chevy, let alone a Nomad. The car of my childhood dreams,
Wow thank you for saving those 55 nomads . They are rare and awesome. The 55 chevy and 55 nomads are my all time favorites as well . If i had the money and time on my side i would have them rebuilt to perfection with superchargers sticking out the hood like a big daddy ed roth cartoon drawing. Thanks for saving them and merry christmas and happy new years..........
Just like what you said when I was in my teen's I lived by the biggest wrecking yards here in California bay area and I watched wagons like this get crushed in the early 80s made me sad to see all those classic car's and truck's go to the crushers. My friend's wonder why I cared about those old car's and truck's. I remember people with long bed hauler picking up 5-6 car's putting them on there trailers to haul those classic's out of State saving them from being crushed. A lot of those if all of them got shut down by environmentalists to clear out all the wrecking yards by the bay. And the dumps all had to be shut down covered up. Most of are great job's/careers got ship over seas.
Yeah man I've seen that alot even around here. We once had alot of cool old junkyards that got crushed out for not only greed but the environment. Merry Christmas
Good on you for at least staving off the crusher for the time being. Here in New Zealand we marvel at the amount of old classics that get sold for couple hundred bucks that are worth thousands over here . 57 chev has always been my fave Keep it up bro
Merry Christmas Don. Keep doing what your doing and you will find another person with your passion. I'm still shocked that there are still so many out there even in that condition.
Thanks Kyle! There is still alot of unrestored Nomads out there! I know of a bunch of them and working on getting them. It takes time to make a deal! Heck even all these took 5 years to get. Merry Christmas
Keep em around and EVENTUALLY no matter how rough they get they will become "WORTH" restoring!!!! I'm 33 and doing my part to keep the ol girls around i got a 29 ford roadster!!
a lot of people dont have the land or means if you do take full advantage of it! land is becoming SUPER scarce and no one wants "old junk" on the property .. :(
watching in land o' lakes,wi...great cars,no matter condition,,..very few left,....,,,parts ,at the least,...they WILL bring money,.so,,,tnx for this x-day vid,....
Man!! Just found your channel, but WOW!! So Glad to see someone else with the same passion for classic cars as me, I would have saved them also, like many that my Father and I have done over the years, even if it is only parts of those cars living on to restore other classics 👍 you are a great asset to the classic car community! Thanks for taking us along the journey.
Your integrity is rare in todays world Don, everyone is obsessed with making money... sometimes things just need to be done even if profit cant happen . Merry Christmas from Australia🎅🎅
Thanks Dean! I agree sometimes things just need to be done regardless of profit! I'm trying to pay it forward and keep these old classics alive! Merry Christmas
Merry Christmas!! I agree that money isn't the reason I do this crazy stuff!! My project 55 is very rough. My 62 C30 long panel is very very rough too. The 55 Belair 2 door sedan I saved from a private yard just to set it out into the woods on my land is like these two poor Stovebolts. The money guys just don't get it. Happy new year brother
Hi Don , Merry Christmas, I know the love that you have for 55's. I really appreciate what you are trying to do to save as many of them as you can. I hope that you can keep doing it for as long as possible. Hopefully you can find people that have the same feeling and give these cars a second chance 🏁
I am with you on the cars, instead of letting them die wear they are. Giving people a chance to build them with there family's. Have a good new years man
Merry Christmas Don, to you're family from our family here in Michigan...wow another nomad..no matter what...its a nomad...love these tri fives as well ..happy you were able to save them and help put together some nomads that need fixin..!!
I remember talking to the owner of a Harley dealership over 30 years ago ,(holey cheese ,Batman did I get old fast) , and he remarked that people building panheads , were building the bikes that were previously the parts bikes , I don't know where that puts the 55's but I'm happy to see you saving them , even if it's only for parts . I've wanted a 55 for many years , but life's bs , working and I know I gotta' have ADD , never had one .
Cool Comment Ted and I agree! Parts cars years ago and know being built! No sure where this car will end up but it's not setting in the Mudd no longer. Merry Christmas
Ya know Don with all of the fantastic metal workers nowadays, and there are a few here on you tube namely Carter auto restyling and Rhode alliance customs RAC and many more..... these two could definitely be brought back to life. Thanks for doing your part to rescue these classics no matter what shape they are in. You are a bit jaded in that you have some really nice ones. But think about the guy who just loves these and cant wait to sink his teeth into rebuilding them. They aint making no more, so this is what we have to work with. Thanks for all of your vids BIG DON!
Lotsa work but a good body man could do a great job with this one. Lotsa steel and a lot of welding. Could be a great candidate for a technical school project. Like the one with no top. It’s cool and a lot of kids would love to work on this. We need good body people to learn how cut and bend plate and learn welding and such. I love it.
I hear ya on trying to save these. The only reason I have so many Nomad specific parts is because someone back in 1974 saved the whole roof and the rest of the parts when the car was being junked. And then a friend of mine got the pieces in the late 70's and saved them in a barn and passed them on to me last year.
That's pretty cool to have them parts. I'm sure there in pretty good shape being stored inside for so long. Do you remember what year the parts come off? Good luck with your build.
I'm doing a 57 air port limousine from the factory it was just as bad I hand made a floor and I'm on to body work I been doing body work for 25 plus years I love it and couldn't find myself doing anything else right on brother
Hi Big Don, I know there will be some parts saved off these cars that will go to some of our friends, that alone makes it worth bringing these old classics home, have a great New Years Eve my buddy😀😀
55 is my most favorite car too, if I had it to do all over again,,I would of made some kind of deal with my mom , and kept the 4 door bel -air 6 cylinder powerglide, , she sold it for 300 or 500 dollars in the 80 s , but I did have the means to buy it from her way back then,, thanks buddy, merry Christmas merry new year, praise Jesus Christ 55grace amen 🙏 thanks BigAl California
Thanks Don that baby is rough But if you are ambitious it could be Saved Take a lot of time Would have loved to see all five about 30/40 years ago Merry Christmas 🎅🏻
I agree, nothing comes close to a 55 chevy. I get it 100% not leaving any of those cars behind. Heart! Cool video, it's pretty rough but it could be saved. Take care brother, merry Christmas
Merry Christmas Don you are the nomad king I just love all your cars even though I love 55s I think your 56 NOMAD is my favorite and your 55 convertible I hope you had a great 2023 and hope 2024 is even better. BTW did you see that sweet 56 Nomad Dan from DDs speed shop just bought that is a really nice car. Your friend from Louisiana Rick 427
Looks like most of the Nomad exclusive parts are still present, since so many tri-Chevy parts are getting remade now hopefully at least one good car can be made from the two.
Man I would if I could, I'd come and save off of you and I'd definitely take on the challenge of restoring it but unfortunately I just can't afford something like that and I never would have dreamed how expensive this would get when I was a kid growing up with the dream of owning one, congratulations on you saving what you can on them though
There are plenty of parts out there to fix them so don't give up there they can be fixed just depends how smart you are give them who will build them had 2
Thank you thank you for saving these beauties...they need to be loved again....lots of parts to be able to save at least one....
Man that's a cryin shame. Those cars were so beautiful in the day. It's gonna take a ton of work to get it done! Wow!
Love that you saved them. Some good stuff to salvage. Merry Christmas to you and family!
Thanks Lee! Merry Christmas Buddy 👍
Merry Christmas Don! A heartfelt video. Thank you for what you do!

Yeah man I hear what your saying. I have a few guys wanting the red nomad. I'll save what I can off the yellow one. Happy New Year

Thanks Man I guess it just hit me like that. These cars will help other nomads live on. The red one might have a chance at life still. Later Buddy 👍
I feel the same as you because they are classic cars, and will never be reproduced. Happy New Year and fun with the Nomads!
With a lot of love sweat and tears she could be on the road again one day. Great save Don!
Merry Christmas 🧑🎄⛄🌲👍🏻
Thanks Chris! I sure couldn't leave it behind even in its shape! Merry Christmas Buddy 👍
its very sad to see these once beautiful 1955 chevy nomads in such poor condition. the nomads were the elite station wagons of their times. those angled windows were unique to the nomads. just so happens to be my most favorite cars of all time. i have seen advertisements and photos of nomads in showrooms from the 50s AUTOMOTIVE JEWELRY. when these are restored they are just stunning especially the two tone colors. hope they get a second chance at life. thanks so much for showing us these 2 legends.
I agree These are some of the sharpest cars ever built. When new or restored to new there stunning! Later Buddy 👍
I respect and appreciate your passion and efforts to save ‘em! I feel and act the same way for Squarebody.
Thanks Man! I like the square body's as well
I'm 66 years old and I keep telling my son stop spending money on these new cars, get any tri 5, put money into it, restore it, and you'll be great full for my advice
Anything can be built! Bring it on Don. I want to see a pressure wash clean up on that one. Happy holidays!
Merry Christmas Buddy Maybe I will wash it up. It's ruff but to someone with time and fabricating skills it could be built. Later 👍
So why isn’t it Christmas every day instead of one time a year?
I appreciate that there are folks that want to restore history. Kudos.
I agree Christmas should be every day.
Yes Don,, you are different,, your love is overwhelming.. thanks for the show. Cheers & merry Christmas.

That sure would be cool to find some nice dry old builders. Around here there pretty ruff of they've been outside! Later 👍
Thanks Don. Happy holidays. I appreciate your passion, these cars make me happy and sad at the same time. Glad you are saving them.
Thanks Buddy
You do an awesome job don. I'm seventy this year myself and love all the fifty cars
Thanks Buddy
Amen Don, great video! I am glad you were able to get all 5 of them! 55 is my favorite, too. It's my dream car. Glad you are saving all the ones you can. Can't wait to see your convertible finished. Keep up the good work. Merry Christmas to you and your family Don.
Thanks George! I'm hoping to have the convertible running and driving by spring! I'll find a good home for these cars and parts! Merry Christmas

Hi Don , Merry Christmas, I know the love that you have for 55's. I really appreciate what you are trying to do to save as many of them as you can. I hope that you can keep doing it for as long as possible. Hopefully you can find people that have the same feeling and give these cars a second chance 🏁

Suggestion: Replacement body and floor pans for the trim five nomad.
Merry Christmas Don, to you're family from our family here in Michigan...wow another nomad..no matter what...its a nomad...love these tri fives as well ..happy you were able to save them and help put together some nomads that need fixin..!!
Thanks Tom! This was the last of the Nomads there. He still has a few more Tri5s! Ill keep pushing a try to find homes for all these. Merry Christmas
Yeah there is some really killer shops out there nowadays! Merry Christmas 👍
Thanks Don. Just what I needed.
Thanks Man!
I love it.
I totally agree John! If there's a school out there that is teaching metal fabrication and bodywork I would donate this car to them. Merry Christmas
The parts came from a 57
Great video. Looks like a job for Dan from DD speed shop in Canada.
That would be awesome
Merry Christmas Don to you and your family! Thanks for sharing, Nice find for sure, Happy New Years to y'all too from Plano Texas.
Thanks Buddy! Merry Christmas
I'm doing a 57 air port limousine from the factory it was just as bad I hand made a floor and I'm on to body work I been doing body work for 25 plus years I love it and couldn't find myself doing anything else right on brother
That's sounds really cool man. Keep up the good work👍
Those seat vents are neat makes me want a nomad 😂😂
There cool! Only the early Nomads had them. Later Buddy 👍
I had a 69 volkswagon that had something similar
Wowwwww mr the alis a beautiful car naver see one it looks like a 56 57 beair
Hi Big Don, I know there will be some parts saved off these cars that will go to some of our friends, that alone makes it worth bringing these old classics home, have a great New Years Eve my buddy😀😀
Hey Mike! Yeah they will help out other cars out there. I just couldn't leave them behind. Happy New Year
@@donshotrodgarage1717 👍👍

Thanks Don that baby is rough But if you are ambitious it could be Saved Take a lot of time Would have loved to see all five about 30/40 years ago Merry Christmas 🎅🏻
Thanks John! That's a great point I bet it was really decent 40 years ago. Merry Christmas
I agree, nothing comes close to a 55 chevy. I get it 100% not leaving any of those cars behind. Heart! Cool video, it's pretty rough but it could be saved. Take care brother, merry Christmas
Yeah BW 55 chevy is the top dog for sure. Any body style has my attention! Merry Christmas Buddy 👍
You need to make a Desk out of one of the front Clips n they sell for $1,000s n maybe a couch out of the rear or make Wall Hangers
Thanks Richard! I seen that Turquoise 55 nomad Dan got but if he has a 56 Nomad I'm going to check it out. Merry Christmas
Looks like most of the Nomad exclusive parts are still present, since so many tri-Chevy parts are getting remade now hopefully at least one good car can be made from the two.
The red one is almost complete minus front fender chrome. I'll find a good home for them. Later 👍
At least you do what you can, and that's good man... Merry Christmas to you and yours.👍🇺🇲
Thanks Man! Merry Christmas Buddy 👍
Please continue to speak your truth.
Keep up the good work.
Thanks Buddy
Man I would if I could, I'd come and save off of you and I'd definitely take on the challenge of restoring it but unfortunately I just can't afford something like that and I never would have dreamed how expensive this would get when I was a kid growing up with the dream of owning one, congratulations on you saving what you can on them though
I understand that! The parts for these cars have went insane and it will ruin the hobby one day! Later Buddy 👍
There are plenty of parts out there to fix them so don't give up there they can be fixed just depends how smart you are give them who will build them had 2
