Another great update Don! Good to see the '55 will be getting some attention and repairs. It's always fun to drive them and help to keep you motivated! It's really nice of you to give the shout out to Randy! I kept a lot of my early memorabilia too, it's all stuff that kept us connected to the hobby! Keep up the great work Don!
Great video and update Don! I like to use the old school tools too! By the time you drag out the air tools and get everything set up, you can have them done without even having to crawl out from under the car! I do have a drill with a small wire wheel that I use to clean the rusty exposed threads and then pre soak them with Kroil penetrating oil. It has worked well for me and gets stuff off pretty quick! Funny, but I had a big spaghetti meal and did some work afterwards today and I know how that feels 😂😂😂 The shocks and shock plates came out nice and look great! I'm sure you'll feel the difference in the ride! I hope you guys had a great Thanksgiving and a great week! Take care Don!
55s Forever!
Great update man !
Thanks Don for the great videos.. I know that you have a job ,family ,and life, and its great that you can make time to post new content! Wish you and your Chevys and your family Happy Holidays!
Great video Big Don! That did not look like a good time! At least you got them on though! Thanks for sharing!👍🏽
Mint
Nice , I hate rusted bolts .
Thats's the way it's supposed to be done. Good job Big Don and you and your family have a great day.
Where you get the rubber seals around the windows?????
The rubber seals for the curved glass is available at any restoration parts place. Ebay has them as well.
@donshotrodgarage1717 nomads are us wants 500 a set for the rubber
Thats probably a full glass rubber set. They set the curved glass rubbers individually. Try ebay
@@donshotrodgarage1717 no that's just the two rear side windows I got wagon ones for $90 I'm gona try to make that work
Maybe I missed it but why not take the rear tires off ? To do the work
After all that work, that Nomad should ride like a dream............
good job big don happy thanksgiving to you and your family love those chevy,s.
Thanks Buddy Happy Thanksgiving

Enjoy your updates Don…happy Thanksgiving to you and your family 🙏
Thanks Man Happy Thanksgiving
Rachet tightening is the way to go. Impact rachet (or Hammering) is scary. Young mechanics impact is all they know. Speed = more money in the pocket, but over tightening, non-uniform alignment threads (stripped) and misalignment of bolts to the brackets can go unnoticed. But, a mechanic feels safe when another mechanic gets paid to re-do their work.
I prefer the old way of wrenching. Never been crazy about impact guns. Later Buddy
It's called wrenching for a reason. It's body building too. Have a Happy Thanksgiving with your family.
Thats right! Happy Thanksgiving
Hey Bud looks like you got a good workout for sure 👍 Yeah Don when I in 4x4 with lifted up, I would get a piece of black hose that was a little tight and put a little grease on the left over thread's and screw the hose on up tight and cut it off, saved the threads for next time, just a idea. Well Don Hope you and family a great Thanksgiving ✌️
Thanks Lonnie thats a good idea. Happy Thanksgiving
Happy Thanksgiving Big Don . Love yer vids And Merry Christmas
Happy Thanksgiving
Good little exercise for your arms,HA! there. That hood bird is mint. Hey maybe you just have to chip away the bondo, some sanding and reopen the holes to get the bird back on curious to see what you do. Funny thing Don I still have my rear shocks from the 1970S in my car they were like new in 2012 when I pulled the whole rear assembly out when I sandblasted and painted everything .They were Monroes when shocks were made good. I just repainted them after sandblasting Im cheap. We had a huge sandblaster at my job. I put my whole fenders in there. Boy I miss that privelege but I have a nice blast setup now anyhoo ...Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family ...
It sure is nice to have a big blast cabinet. Happy Thanksgiving
@@donshotrodgarage1717 Yeah Don I treated myself with a blast cabinet nothing too ritzy or big. I bought the Eastwood floor pedal kit and gun few years back. It has the 6mm nozzle original hand held gun is junk that the cabinet came with. If you got a decent compressor I recommend the HarborFreight cheap cabinet and then pickup the Eastwood floor and gun pedal kit works pretty fast & efficiently. Bought a Dewalt 60 gallon 220volt compressor to keep the air up. It works pretty good with my outboard parts! Maybe down the road youll pick one up its a good investment theres always used cabinets now & then on FMPlace..... Enjoy your weekend... Later
Nice work Don, even on a cold day like today you were lying on the floor in a tshirt! One bad buckeye!
Yeah man I've been on the cold ground hot ground and everything between. Got to get the job done. Happy Thanksgiving
My ‘55 Nomad came with traction bars, so original lower shock brackets were long gone. These bars just used a nut/bolt combination for the lower shock mounting and if reuse them I might just weld a bolt to the hole like the way yours were repaired. Your ‘55 should ride like a Cadillac with new shocks!
I'd like to find some of those old Traction Bars. Cool stuff Man
I got tired just watching you do it! Job well done Don.
Happy Thanksgiving Buddy
Happy Thanksgiving, Don
Happy Thanksgiving to you too!
Thanks man! Have a Blessed Thanksgiving!
Happy Thanksgiving
Old school rule of thumb, little bit of engine oil on the threads makes it easier to remove, down the road. When these cars were built, everything had a coat of oil on it. Oil doesn't interfere with torque specs like anti-sieze or grease. The bird is the word 😁 Happy Thanksgiving
Thanks for the info Buddy Happy Thanksgiving
Nice job Don u and your family have a great Thanksgiving c u next video 👍
Thanks Mark Happy Thanksgiving
Great update Don. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family. 👍😎✌️
Thanks Buddy Happy Thanksgiving
Leaf springs are 6 leaf those were from a nine passenger wagon. Looks like to me anyway.
I was thinking the same thing. It sure don't set up that high for having heavy springs it it. Later Buddy
@ they’re old ones so they set nice.
Nice video Big Don! The bird is beautiful! It will look really nice on the convertible. That will give it a finishing touch! Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!
Thanks Buddy Happy Thanksgiving
I haven't followed u much but u sure got some bad azz cars happy turkey day I'll be watching more👍
Thanks Mike Happy Thanksgiving
I can’t be leave you don’t have an impact wrench .Save your hands friend and HAPPY THANKSGIVING.I LOVE YOUR CARS❤
😊q😊😅
I have impact guns and impact rachets. Just like doing it the old way. Happy Thanksgiving
when you pull wrenches, you know things are straight and all the same torque tight. nice job. and have a happy thanksgiving.
Thanks Buddy Happy Thanksgiving
Happy Thanksgiving to all God 🙌
Thanks Don Happy Thanksgiving
Nice job should ride much better.Happy Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving
Thanks for the update!
Love the way the doors close mint big Don
They have a sweet sound to them. Later Buddy
Door won't latch on a '55 Nomad --> parts car. What a clown. The wrong people stumbling across these cars....
Watch the entire video on the car Bud! The body was totally shot. Only clowns make comments like yours without knowing the facts!
@@donshotrodgarage1717 Sister -- You'll find that it takes more than being able to get a car onto your trailer than to restore it. #LeaveRestorableCarsAlone
@@donshotrodgarage1717 Look for our replies, sis.
@lt.frankdrebin3317 How many cars have you even bought or fixed up?
@@donshotrodgarage1717 I took a '56 4 door wagon off the frame to replace all of the floors because they were rotted. This car also hit a pole, causing the firewall to be pushed forward and therefore the front doors didn't latch. By your standards, this car would have been a "parts car", but with some work, cutting, and welding in new panels, the car was restored.
Hey Big D, it’s great you took the 56 for a drive, it’s a turn key driver, the louvered hood would be nice to see what it looks like on the 55, but I can’t imagine it looking any better than the stock one, but you never know, good video, have a fantastic Thanksgiving and catch you soon 😀😀
Hey Mike! I'm not real sure how the hood will look on the ragtop. The main reason i like the old cars is because my pops and how i remember them looking when I was a kid. The old-school look is something you don't see much anymore in a "LS" world. Happy Thanksgiving Buddy
You are right there👍
Don are those Nomad eyebrows on the Convertible? Where is the 57 Nomad? Love your cars, man.
@RMcDuffee55 Hey Man. Them are 55 Chevy eyebrows sold through J.C Whitney's in the 50s. There almost impossible to find anymore. The 57 Nomad went back home to my brother. I got it from him and he wanted it back. Talk to you later 👍
Just going to work on the 55 hardtop for the winter take care
Cool video
