Life is weird! But also makes perfect sense! Onto the next chapter! I seriously can’t say thank you enough, to every one of you reading this! I’m ending the fundraiser by the time I leave. Around the beginning of April. I’m not asking for anything, but people ask all the time, and there is still time if you would like to donate for the trip. www.GiveSendGo.com/RobTheNomad Thank you all again for helping through this winter, and for making this possible! I won’t be doing any fundraising like this from here on out. I’m considering a Patreon or something similar eventually. I have some ideas for it, but feel free to comment if you do too! Have a great weekend everyone, and seriously thank you so much again and again! Until next time.
Looking forward to continuing the journey with you Rob. Your humbleness is something to be admired. Maybe you could consider a PayPal account, so that people would still have a way to contribute.
I look up to you. You could quit but you keep going . Much respect to you. I wish you the 100% best man . My suggestion to you is to record your trip...it would make for amazing content.
Hay rob glad your going to keep the adventure going the trail is beautiful and pay pal will be a great help along the way to replace any gear that might fail or a room for the night to get refreshed happy trails
Rob, I am so glad the property owner is helping you get your VA benefits. That is a really awesome thing for him to do. I can't wait to see your journey on the Appalachian trail, I have always wanted to do that myself but I will never be able to make that kind of journey due to my own personal health reasons good luck I will be watching
It is comforting to know that my participation in something actually helped to better someones life. Brings me peace. I will be looking forward to sharing your dream/journey. You can do this!!
I spent two years homeless in New England. Most people are completely unprepared for a personal collapse and total loss of resources. All I had left was my wits, and a drive to live as comfortably as possible. It made me wiser, more humble, and very resourceful.
First of all I want to thank you for the vid Rob, I been checking everyday on you tube for u. it was a big relief to see u safe and doing good. Please take us with u on your journey to Florida, not sure why but I truely enjoy you, ur an amazing guy and u feel like a good friend, my thoughts will be with u on ur journey and looking forward to ur next vid my friend !
Yes! You did it. I just spent last 12 years in Florida panhandle, tons of commerce and jobs, endless sun and fishing and hope you share your adventure with us all. I'm 66 ,hope to do the trail one day myself with my kids or grandkids. Be careful, and enjoy every wonderful second!
Very impressive, Rob. I was literally thinking early in the video, “It would be cool if he used the Appalachian Trail on his route to Florida.” Excited for more content!
Read A Wallk in the Woods by Bill Bryson. The Appalachian Trail is climbing a Mountain one day and getting up the next doing the same thing. It is rugged and dangerous. People get killed and disappear. Read Bill Bryson's Book.
Praying you stay safe! Florida is a whole different animal. You will need good tarps and pallets to keep the tent off the ground down here. And battery operated fans if you are planning on staying in a tent down here. Summers are brutal here lol.
I was homeless for one year in Florida. You're right ,I had a battery operated fan, dome tent,tarp...just about everything I needed. I lived in a swamp near Orlando. In many ways it was one of the best years of my life. I didn't have any drug or alcohol issues. My issues were health related which I have under control now. I think my family thought they'd be stuck with me so that was that.At first I was concerned because I was always a responsible person and didn't have a clue about homelessness. I had heart issues and couldn't work at the time. The Lord somehow provided everything I needed and I never had to panhandle or ask anybody for anything except for washing my clothes a few times at a family members house.
Rob you are doing something, your an inspiration to people, you should be very proud of yourself. Your determination is amazing, good luck on your journey,I look forward to your updates etc. Take care and stay safe xx ❤
I walked to Florida from North Georgia (scope the channel!) and I can say that if I do something similar I will be train hopping next time 😅. Good luck on all your endeavors! “Where God guides, God provides.”
Also, save a little money to rent a car in case you find yourself in a “water and establishment desert” if your path goes through Alabama in a dry season, and almost every establishment in Columbus, GA only gives water to paying customers.
Syracuse rescue mission SUUUUUUUUCKS! I just stumbled on your channel tonight while researching diy heating inspiration. I plan to head to the mountains to build a shelter so that I will be able to stickout the winter. I'm tired of fleeing south for the winters. I actually had a similar housing situation outside of Syracuse, otherwise, I never would have gone up there to begin with. I was brand new to the road and had no idea what I was doing when the housing situation didn't workout. I was told to walk to the mission. I tried that and it was just awful. I can't imagine how anyone can get their life together anywhere near an environment like that. I left the shelter and followed the tracks to the railyard. Camped out in the rain for like 4-5 nights and finally just had enough of Syracuse and the rain and I threw myself onto a slow rolling train. I think that was the happiest I had ever been in my entire life. The clouds parted and I was rolling through beautiful orchards. I knew then that I was going to be a nomad for life. But here I am 8 years later with injuries and poor diet, etc. I'm gesring up on bushcraft tools and gear right now so that I can build me a cabin in the Sierra Nevadas (heaven on earth). Do you have any tips on starting up a UA-cam channel? It would be cool to get one going and then actually meet up on the road one day and collaborate or something 🙂🤙 btw, you didn't fail. Your mind is made up. You are determined. And so it shall be. This is exactly how I feel about building myself a winter shack in the mountains this summer. It is as good as done. It's just a matter of time. Safe travels, brother. That trail will change your life. Please research proper footwear and pack. They are SO important. The 0 mile marker awaits you...
Hey Rob, that's a great decision! I'm happy and excited for you, and envious. So I'll vicariously hike with you. Looking forward to your next video. Peace ☮️
Great channel Rob. I am so proud of you and I know other people are too. Sometimes when I hike at night to keep the animals from ambushing me I'll let them know I'm there by just simply talking to myself. It helps with mental sanity and keeps them aware you're there so they're not scared of you
Congratulations!! You made it through winter!! I'm so excited to watch this adventure!! Get some bear spray! Love the way you tell stories. Your voice is calming. Let's Go!!
Be sure to carry pepper spray on the trail. Bear spray for bears and coyotes and get a small canister of pepper gel for humans, it sticks to the target and won't splash back on you and can squirt up to 30 feet. There are dangerous people on the AT.
Sounds like the trail, with the hostels/shelters and people youll meet along the way will be uplifting and adventurous- Your journey sounds hopeful! Way to go Rob
Dude, as a fellow Vet, made props and prayers to you. Been watching for the last month now, can't believe what you've been through. Tough living brother. Glad to know my fellow NYrs are helping out, if you make it out to Colorado, look me up! Continued prayers for your immediate and future plans. Stay safe.
Awesome news about the VA benefits ! The land owner seems to be a pretty nice guy. If anyone can make it to Florida on foo,t it is you :) You survived some of the hardest coldest temps all winter. I think it is great that you are going to be doing something you have wanted to do for years. Looking forward to your adventures !
The AT adventure is going to be great! I can't wait to see! I guess getting "busted" living there was an actual blessing for you. The land owner is awesome for lending a hand in getting you VA bennys too! 💪🏽

Glad you have decided to go hopefully you will get there safely. May God watch over you on your trip. Enjoy the AT I hear it's beautiful. Love from Texas.
Hey Rob, glad to see you made it through the winter and that you were able to figure out your next moves. I've done a good amount of hiking on the Appalachian trail myself so you're going to get an experience. Bring us along on your journey and show people what the Appalachian is about, it's going to be exciting. I think you're going to love Florida. Good luck Rob we're praying for you and looking forward to hearing how your doing along the way!

A candle lantern would produce some heat inside your tent also, as long as you have a little air flow so as not to burn up your air supply. Good luck and stay safe brother. YHS, campdog
Hi ,Rob. I have to say listening to you talking about wat it's like living outside was amazing, I take my hat of to you my friend, life is so not fair I really do believe there should be more help and support for people like you. I hope you find what you're looking for. Good luck Rob.
Ya should take your walk. Taking my bicycle ride across the country was the best thing I ever done. I found day jobs every day . Money wasn't a problem. Life seem to slow down , the best part was the people I met along the way. And walking or bicycling you see more then if one is driving 60+ mph. . I hope you go for your walk. Peace ✌️
I am glad you made it through winter. Thanks for taking us on your journey. Please keep us posted on your upcoming adventures. Hope you find what your looking for and it makes you happy. Try to stick with it. Their are good people out there. Just protect yourself from the bad ones. Florida offers many opportunities and great weather. Keep safe and God Bless.
Rob, I just found found your videos and can relate to you a lot. I know exactly how you feel and I agree it’s really hard to explain. I am gonna be 30 this year and still live with my mom (I struggle with cptsd, depression, and anxiety). Thankfully she is everything a mom should be and is loving, gentle, kind and understanding. I have 3 brothers who have all went on to succeed in life and have degrees, good jobs, houses, married etc etc and I’m still stuck in a never ending rut to nowhere. I know without my mom I would be in the position your in now and I actually have supplies ready to go if the day should ever happen. So thankful for her and I hope one of these days I can take care and provide for her. I’m in therapy now and I’ve been getting better. I recommend you do seek help because it does help. You can get a library card too and checkout some self help books. I have actually found those to help better. Gives you another mindset and different ways of thinking. I don’t think I will ever be able to live a normal life though but I’m hoping to get myself together enough just to buy a little land and build a off grid homestead. Sometimes I just feel like I want the whole damn world just to leave me alone and I would just love to be able to live the rest of my life out that way. If you need anyone to talk to let me know. I can send you the books list I’ve been reading and some other resources if you would like? Can’t wait to see your adventures and am here to offer you encouragement along the way.
I'm from Syracuse and I don't blame you for wanting to leave lol. I live in southern alabama now and I'm about a 45 min drive to the Florida line. Let me know if you need anything.
but what a journey so far and it has barely begun I can only support your decision freedom is something that belongs to us good luck and a big hug from Portugal
Up here, all you have are the coyotes. But in Florida you have the alligators and whatever else. It would be good to put those wooden crates under your tent and flattened cardboard boxes over the crates. And your tent over that. And cardboard underneath your sleeping bag. That will help save you from the cold and the rain. And also long johns and at least 2 pair if everything.
Well, good luck to you Rob on your journey to Florida. I’ll be waiting for your videos. And when you get halfway down there you need to start watching out for them poisonous snakes. ✌️
I be coming by you tomorrow in the big rig, let me know if you need anything. I wasn't even thinking about going by Syracuse until I seen this video, haven't been upstate since November, I would've brought you my light weight wood stove but hell winter about played out with it being 2nd day of spring.
Im with you bro, been right where you are without the benefit of you tube. But im sure it cant have made much so near to the beginings as you are. Much love and keep the faith !
best of luck wishes on your journey. keep an eye to current events & watch what to do in the event.. also prices are way up. weather has gone from dry to hot humid with suddon rain. but so far things are still ok. pray for peace. plan ahead.
I was homeless years ago in jersey and built a pack out of some school backpacks and half of a walker frame, got a ride to the Delaware water gap part of the trail and started walking south. was out there for several months just walking a day or so and camping for a few days to a week or so at a time, just moving and living and moving. peaceful. beautiful. spiritual. free. best experience of my life man, i'm really happy for you.
Hey Rob, you've got me hooked and watching from Nova Scotia! For a while now I've wanted to hike the Appalachian trail. Good on you brother! You follow your 10 year dream. Florida will be awesome (I've never been but it would be awesome lol). Keep making the vids you inspire people✌
Your going to miss the freezing temperatures and the peace and quiet of the woods. Taking the apt trail from ny to fla would be awesome dont know if i would ever leave the mountains once there. Enjoy it
Ironically, I lived in NY 17 years, moved to Virginia for 3, moved to South Carolina for 3 months, shipped off to Lackland AFB for 6 months, then off to Nellis/Creech AFB for a while and now in Alabama. And between Texas and Alabama now, Ive had NY winter chills come and follow me ha ha ha ha ha! Hopefully the VA works out for you. I'm fighting to get my last 10% and try my best to keep my body from hurting every day.

onward to Florida😊
Just being you on a journey sounds interesting. One day at a time, stay safe👍
Nice one Rob.
Cheers.
Mick.
I be coming by you tomorrow in the big rig, let me know if you need anything. I wasn't even thinking about going by Syracuse until I seen this video, haven't been upstate since November, I would've brought you my light weight wood stove but hell winter about played out with it being 2nd day of spring.

Rob, kudos! You have the nomad life down! For me, this would be the pits! 👍🏾
Good luck to you Rob, you'll be in Harper's Ferry in WV on the AT. We live in a beautiful state. Be safe !
You're too modest. People are finding themselves in your situation and are shocked they're no help for them. You give great advice about surviving.
👍🏻😎Best of luck moving forward, Rob. Looking forward to the trip!
Glad things are looking better for you. This is gonna be a awesome hike! Be safe ✌️2

Excellent video/recap! Congratulations on your decision. Decisions are usually half the battle. I will continue to watch every episode. 🙂🙂🙂
great to know that you have an immediate plan. It's a long hike to FL, should have plenty of time to think of something.
Enjoy it
It's great to see you! Looking forward to following your journey!
Where you at now bro.
