ZD30 Navara to Patrol Turbo Conversion Pt1 - Oil Lines

- Converting a D22 ZD30 Navara from a wastegated HT12/19 to a VGT/VVT GT2052 from a ZD30 Patrol using a Mamba oil hose kit.
This kit was purchased from eBay for $160 and is shown at the end of the video. The turbo used in this conversion is an oil cooled turbo from a ZD30 Patrol. The oil kit that I purchased is also designed for a Patrol, but the kit features flexible hoses which allow for enough movement to suit mounting on a Navara. I am also using a Mamba Boost Actuator that I scavenged from my Navara turbo, to maintain boost control over the turbo rather than vacuum.

Thank you! This video saves me the cost just to put back the low pressure oil host back to the engine....
Glad it helped!
Great video mate, amazing channel
Cheers mate glad you enjoyed it
You probably dont give a shit but does any of you know of a trick to get back into an instagram account??
I was dumb forgot my login password. I love any tips you can give me.
@Ariel Gerardo Instablaster ;)
@Nehemiah King I really appreciate your reply. I found the site thru google and I'm trying it out atm.
I see it takes quite some time so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
@Nehemiah King it did the trick and I actually got access to my account again. I'm so happy!
Thanks so much, you saved my account!
Got me looking for patrol turbo now what difference does it make from the stock turbo ?
Not a whole lot however they are a more efficient turbo compared to the d22. The difference is in the VNT or VGT style of the patrol turbo compared to the standard turbo of the D22 👍🏻
Is there anything you have to do to the vains as the vnt turbos run a vacuum actuator and by putting a boost actuator on it your reversing the movement of the vains. I’ve done everything the exact same to you and for some reason my nav goes into limp mode and says that it’s overboosting
Hey mate so from memory the vacuum actuator pulls closed on start up then once desired boost is reached the vacuum controller opens and pushed the rod down. If you fit a boost actuator it should function in the same way. I’d check that your actuator is opening by applying 15-20psi pressure to it if it won’t open your springs are likely too strong 👍🏻
Hi i'm a bit confused.
This is to put a Navara turbo in a patrol? If so what model year of Navara is best for this mod?
Pardon my English.
Cheers from Colombia South America.
Hey mate, this video shows how to put the turbo from the zd30 patrols onto a zd30 navara. This works for the d22s that have the 3L Diesel engine that came between the 3.2L and 2.5L diesel d22s here in Australia. I’m not sure what year these were released in other countries. This mod is good for people wanting a larger turbo as the stock turbos on the navaras are quite small and become unreliable with more boost/PSI.
The best part about this mod is that it means you can later swap the patrol turbo for a larger aftermarket patrol turbo which are very common in Australia, whereas there are not many aftermarket navara turbos.
I hope this helps feel free to ask more questions.
@@ReubsModifications thank you so much for the reply. I understand now.
Great information.
Very useful, thanks!
No coolant plumbing on yours? The one I'm looking at has coolant ports on it too.
Thanks mate, there’s two turbos that come on the patrol. The only difference is mine is oil cooled and yours is water cooled. It just means that you’ll need to route the water lines as well as your oil lines 👍🏻
Good day. May I know the outside diameter of the rubber return hose? Thanks.
Hey mate I ordered my hose through mamba as a kit so I don’t have hose specifications sorry
Hello, I find your videos very helpful. I have a Nissan ZD 30 and need the turbo and connection mamba kit. I'm in Zambia and can receive the items through DHL
That's great to hear that these videos are helping you 👍
Hey mate, would a d22 zd30 3 inch exhaust bolt up to zd30 patrol?
The turbos have a different exhaust outlet so the dump pipes are different. I used my d22 exhaust and made a custom dump pipe
Hey mate.. you got a social account I can DM you a few questions I got YD25 looking to do a turbo swap as the stock turbo is horrid.. loved the three videos keep up the good work.
Cheers mate, if you look up Reubs Modifications on instagram you can swing me a message there.
Don't waste your time with Vac actuation. Stick with Boost side, simple, easy and neat. The TurboSmart actuators only hold 7PSI but can be used with a EBC. The 16PSI Actuators found online seem best, the 20's are too high.
Ben TheGuru I saw you can get better control using vac actuator and a tillex/boost controller with a tune. I’m currently getting boost spike in 2nd/3rd to 20psi when taking off quick but otherwise holds around 15-18psi pretty steady. Is there a way to stop the spike with a boost actuator or is it just my driving😂
@@ReubsModifications Tillix/Dawes have their FanBoy's and do work in many cases however, a lot more plumbing and touchy little shits to get correct. Surging and variance still happen depending on application.
The boost actuators need to two things:
Boost reference as close to the turbo as possible and use decent size tubing.
Don't use the post-intercooler blocks or any other adapters that far along the system. Weld in a nipple to the first elbow just after the snail or if you have hte snail out, there is a bulge in the housing for drilling and tapping. If you take your signal too far down the line, you will get oscilations. As for the tubing, if your nipples support it, go for 5mm ID tube. The quicker the signal gets to the actuator, the quicker it acts to open the vanes and get control.
Ben TheGuru alright cheers I’ll have a go at getting a closer boost reference and increasing the hose size if I can and see how it goes
Hey dude
Did it make much difference??
And does it flutter now?
Hey mate boost comes on a bit sooner and much sooner, doing this conversion let’s you run bigger aftermarket turbos like gturbo or UFI whereas there aren’t really aftermarket turbos of the d22 style. It only flutters under specific conditions and did it with both turbos, I have another video explaining how to do it 👍🏻
Hey mate, are the DI and CRD turbos the same? Which did you use? Wanting to do the same to my ute, cheers
Hey mate I’m not sure if the turbos changed between the engines or series of patrol but I know that some are oil cooled and some are water cooled. I went with oil as it meant that there was less to install 👍🏻
@@ReubsModifications is the one you’ve used from a CRD or Di
Can i baypass the water line of turbo??
Yes you can, I bought an oil cooled turbo which means I don’t have the water ports. It would probably be more efficient if you did connect the water lines.
Ese turbo es de geometria variable?
Yes the new turbo is a variable geometry
Good day I was wondering where you took the vacuum source from because I'm working on running the vnt turbo but I was wondering where you took the vacuum source from
Hey mate the patrols actuate these turbos with vacuum but when you put them on a navara you can swap the vacuum actuator out for a boost actuator and use the factory navara boost lines 👍🏻
The minimal setting of the turbo vanes is too low, thats why comes this idiotic sound after releasing the throttle.
That turbo flutter isnt an edit right?
Nah mate not an edit, only happens when you rev and turn the key though
