    nice work. does it handle well for you? good weight balance with the 1.8t? I know people do v8 swaps but this seems way more reasonable when it comes to not upsetting the original balance of the car.

      Handles very well! The car needs a proper corner balance but the limits are very high and the car is very tossable.

    Hi Andrew,
    What did you use for Axle stubs, CV joints and the transaxle drive shafts? With all that torque gain what did you use to handle it? I have the original Passat longitudinal transaxles and CV's with the 28 spline count. The right side(s) are plenty long but I need to know how to modify and machine the axle hub side. I am planning for a 5 lug system. Do 944 axle hubs work in the 914 trailing arms?

    I want to do build a dune buggy but with a 5.3 Chevy motor, but I don’t know what transaxle that would fit with it and affordable, I want it to be mid engine, can you help me

      Sounds awesome!!!!
      I have just the video for you.
      Best option is Boxster 6 speed. But check out all the other options you have that might fit your budget.

    Would the transverse 1.8t not have fit? Or would the engine have been too far back into the trunk?

    • @budgetoutlaws9978
      @budgetoutlaws9978  4 роки тому +1

      It would have possibly fit, but it would have moved the engine back another foot, it would have taken up the entire trunk vs just a little of it, and it would have prevented me from being able to put the targa top in the trunk.
      This is near identical to the original 914 transmission mounting so it's a bit more "correct".. That being said I've been tossing around the idea of putting a DSG in the car..

      @@budgetoutlaws9978Yeah I wondered if it's just make what little practicality the boot has completely unusable. DSG would be interesting, I was mostly looking for how you were going to run the shift linkage to the rear :) Haven't tackled that one yet

    • @budgetoutlaws9978
      @budgetoutlaws9978  4 роки тому +1

      My last video I went over shifting. I just made a cable shift setup and ran it with cables. You could easily do the same with your transverse setup and not deal with linkage. Run a MR2 shifter and custom cables.

      The original 914 motor and transmission are mounted longitudinally. So it made sense to use the longitudinal 1.8t to minimize the amount of modifications converting the longitudinal factory orientation to transverse.

    When flipping engine bakwards like that, wont it maken The gear box spin opposite direktion, getting 5 gears reverse and 1 forward? Like on The older bug trannies you could flip The diff to reverse output if you were to build mid engine with those

    • @budgetoutlaws9978
      @budgetoutlaws9978  2 роки тому +1

      The engine And transmission is facing the same direction as it did in the Audi.
      But yes you are correct If I did flip the engine around the transmission would have to be flipped over or the ring and Pinion would have to be flipped

      @@budgetoutlaws9978 great answer 👏 been planing a vw mid engine , first thought of the old passats and Audis since o used to own one,should be easier IRS convert The floor pan and use a longitidual engine and trans combo ,than welding in a Golf mk3 subframe and Mount a transverse engine 🤔😁
