Never, but never torch over shingle. Always remove at least 2 lines, bring the membrane up, then install new shingles over the membrane. I sometimes am able to pop the nails and slide the membrane under the shingles, but it is risky, shingles could break, and you might not have enough overlap

It might not pass code in some states here these days but I know this was the way roofing was done many years ago. My grandfather took part in roofing jobs like these in the 80’s & many of the houses he did some 30 odd years ago still have those same torched down roofs. I had even learned from one of my uncles some years ago when I was much younger. Now a days though it’s not as easy to still do this without someone reporting you :/

First of all the doctor says don’t ever remove the old asphalt roof! Never leave wet roofing components in place when you reroof a bldg. Wet insulation left in place will rot wood and steel deck.
    This guy is a hack.
One more scenario what if the existing roof did not meet. Wind uplift criteria as specified by local BOCA code.
This guy does not take into account any agency requirements including OSHA safety requirements.

Biggest shoemaker I've ever seen. If you worked for any company I've ever worked for in Canada and I've worked for the biggest company in North America Flynn Canada. You would only be allowed to torch once and you wouldn't even be allowed to finish you first roll. You would be lucky if they allowed you to cut cap sheet. I know you said in a previous video that there is a right way to do this but you would show us the way you do it and that tha manufacturer wants it done a certain way but you won't do it that way. I guess there are no standards in the US. Everything you do is over burned you never use gussets you make rabbit ears both ways on your flashing which is wrong. Rabbit ear only go on you first peace the second peace should be cut flush with the wall box parapet and patch on cap sheet is not a 6" by 6" peace you put over a hole it has to look natural the length of the cap sheet 39.50" wide and you cut off the 3" lap and 3' both ways of the hole making it 6 feet long. Putting down a diamond shaped piece over a roof pipe is when you add a roof pipe to an existing roof after the fact with a cone over the pipe. Any existing pipes already on the roof are supposed to look natural you pass the cone 6" cut the roll there and start another piece of roll touching the pipe with the 6" over lap. You have never done or been to the manufacturer torching course.
