    They also did sloppy flashing. Unbelievable..... Thank you for sharing.

    The slit should be placed on the downward slope of the roof as rain will flow down the slope . You have the slit perpendicular to the slope of the roof which over time will allow water to leak into and under the slit .

    The valley should have an underlayment with a sticky backing laid in the valley lengthwise . You then put a 36 inch wide section of metal roof from the edge to the hip of the roof . Make sure you buy the metal roofing section that has a ridge on it so that water will hit that ridge and flow down to the roof edge and not flow over flat flashing and get under the shingles . Do not use flat flashing on the roof valley . Only use a roof flashing 36 inch wide with a hip on it . ( the metal roof section I am speaking about has baked
    enamel paint on it ) .
    When the roofers or you put the perpendicular sticky backing underlayment to cover the flashing 1
    to 3 inches from the hip of the valley flashing .
    Since the underlayment is 36 inches wide , nail the flashing 1 inch in from the edge of the flashing as the roof valley section is also 36 inches wide . Then lay your perpendicular sticky back underlayment that covers the whole roof over the nails in the flashing . Remember to not cover the hip of the flashing with the underlayment .

    Please, you make me nervous walking around so close to the edge. There are such things as micro blackouts. Please, tell your wife to at least wrap you in ten layers of bubble wrap. BEST videos!

    Instead of mastic under membrane use asphalt primer spray around your pipe, and for faster bound heat up your pipe with torch just prior to spraying it this way no need time to wait for drying then torch your membrane around pipe.

    You finally said something right. When you said the proper way do this and then changed you're mind and said you're way to do this. So you admit there is a right way to do it but you won't or don't know how. A real roofer knows that to torch on metal you need to put primer first and a real roofer know that you always start your base with a half sheet cut down the middle so you don't end up with base and cap hitting lap on lap anything less than 12 inches is not expected. If the roof has drains you start at the drain with your base half and half in the middle of the drain so when you start with your cap the cap is full over the drain. You said the other guys patches didn't stick to the roof but instead of removing it you put your base right over it. So every time you pass over it you base isn't stuck either. What a hack job. If you're putting down a new roof over the old one do it right or let someone that knows what they're doing do it instead. Trying to blame other roofer saying they did a bad job no they were payed to a temporary patch job because they probably gave the real price to do the proper job and the owners of the place thought it was to high. So you said you would do it cheaper but didn't tell them it was just price that way cheap but you're work to who the hell puts down plastic cement under torch down.

      @Peter Alexander Mielke I do teach a torching course out here in Canada and if the roof Dr. Was to take it he would never pass with all the short cut he does and the mess he makes. He would never be licensed in this country.

      The funny thing is I am in Canada to ah, and I make my money repairing what you call actual roofers' work. These are Licensed flat roof installers; one thing you can not fight is his history or even mine after 40 years. I have done the same type of repairs with tremendous success, which is hard to do in the roofing business.

    2 questions: 1. Doesn't the Karnak eventually harden & become detached from the metal, same as the membrane? 2. It's been a year....is this still waterproof? Thanks for the great video!

    Very interesting! Do you know what kind of shingles were on the rest of the roof? It was a very unusual mix of profiles (square edge and dog ear) and it looked like some were loose, sort of curling at their edges. I'm wondering if it was a synthetic/composite product.

    I would have cleaned the roof off thoroughly and applied a 5 gallon bucket of asphalt primer to the entire roof area before any base sheet was applied to the existing roof.

    • @ericbstudios9807
      @ericbstudios9807 Рік тому

      Continue a full roll of membrane into and up the wall about 4-6"
      Cut a separate piece of membrane to cover the parapet and extend down the wall and back onto the flat roof.
      Heat the membrane enough to get a bleedout of spooge no less than 1/4" and no more than 1"
      Take measurements and order 10' lengths of metal "coping" of a very thick gauge to cap the parapit

    • @ericbstudios9807
      @ericbstudios9807 Рік тому

      Also, it is highly recommended to cover any masonry surfaces with an asphalt primer prior to adhering the torch membrane to the block parapet

    Why don't you use peel and stick cap sheet?

    • @FlatRoofDoctor
      @FlatRoofDoctor  2 роки тому

      It is to flat. You need more pitch for Peel and Stick Cap Sheet. Peel and Stick Cap Sheet will only work when you have positive water flow to one direction. And then you still have to torch weld the end laps.

    • @FlatRoofDoctor

      I normally would use John Mansfield's Dynagrip base. But I could not find any other than that of Liberty made by GAF. This base is meant for the Liberty System. It still worked for me in this case.

      self stick doesnt mean its self stick. it has to be glued and them pressure rolled. that will fail in time

    • @notimportant3686
      @notimportant3686 Рік тому

      @@xxdrloveleyxx5185 because he torched over it, probably not... he got the temp of the peel and stick so hot, it probably relaxed and sank all the way down down the roof everywhere.... if this was a cold roof, then you're right, it would fail miserably as the bottom layer...
      dude is doing his own thing... clearly

    Do not listen to a single thing this man tells you in his videos. I have over 40 years in the commercial roofing industry. I have been hired as an expert witness on lawsuit failures. I currently work for a highly respected engineering/consulting firm that writes specifications for replacement. We perform forensic investigations on failures. This person is so far from showing you industry construction standards that I am compelled to express my knowledge.
    Please you can email me and I will tell you how to repair/replace your roof system.
