I really appreciate u taken ur time to make these videos. It has really helped me with repair my metal roof thank u. I went from wondering what to do about the leaks to knowing exactly how to stop it. Awesome.
Great content. Very educational. I now know enough, I think, to tackle my own roof leaks. Thank you so much for the education. Flat roofs a no longer a mystery. God bless you and your wife.
Great video; thanks for sharing. May I ask what kind of cloth you used as the intermediate layer? I have rolls of cheesecloth, but the weave looks coarser than what you are using. Thanks!
Your work looks very good. What is the white sheet that you put in between the layers of the silicone? Is it kitchen paper towel? Pls advise. Thank you.
I see a trough was created next to the skylight which causes the water to sit there and rot out the silicone and rubber cement...that should be torn out and done properly
I repaired my garage roof with similar tactics 2 years ago. And its not leaking. I have ZERO years of roof repair experience. You have 40 years of ripping people off. If not post some helpful videos we will wait…………………. You dont like these vids because you would have ripped this home owner off!
@maxcannon3002 Exactly! Roofers are SCUM pieces of $hǐț. Straight up scammers; I despise roofers. Never met an honest roofer. If that guy has been roofing for 40 years then he has definitely scammed MANY old ladies.
Thank you for the video But the product is quite expensive The silicone based products are nice to work with as they are liquidy compared to the rubberized patch cement, which is very thick and hard to spread without making a mess. What will be the drying time for that work? I’m curious how long it takes for that silicone product to dry
It all comes down to how much you are prepared to pay or invest your time. I have a galvanized tile roof, the tiles sprayed with bitumix and coated with chip. But around the edges where the water drains off the underside of the tiles (which were not painted have rusted heavily in some places and only in a few instances has the rust broken through. The cheapest and easiest way is to patch the holes as this roofer is doing. They might last a few years until the rust underneath creep through. To lift all the roof tiles around the perimeter is a time-consuming task and expensive if paying someone else. It is quite a job removing the nails and individual tiles, cleaning them up treating the rust, priming and painting before putting them back . Even repacing with new tiles is still quite a job. What is frustrating is the inconsideration of the roofers who laid my roof. My father, an excellent builder, always said If you put something in, think about those who may have to remove it some years later. I have had a terrible job removing some tiles that were nailed in a way very difficult to reach the nails. This was not necessary and only laziness. But it has taken much time and energy. I notice this roofer rarely lifts the iron roofing sheets to check for rust on the underside, something I believe should be done where possible.
Its really a great technique cloth bandage reinforce to repair roof cracks. With a variety of materials you can also repair the roof yourself with same cloth bandage techniques. Anyway a nice vidwo
That stuff looks great, is it used in the UK as I'm looking to add flat roof maintenance to my exterior cleaning business? I've already used Bostik instant flat roof repair which has fiberglass in the solution
The problem with silicone based products for leaks has always been that the ultraviolet light from the sun utterly destroys silcone in about two years. What has been done to prevent that problem with this product?
You’re absolutely right. Everyone swore by flexseal. I used a gallon of it on my roof and that stuff crumbled apart like old thin rubberbands after two years
How about silicon product underneath a traditional EPDM tape patch? Silicon would be protected from the sun by EPDM. (I've been battling a leaking skylight for a year)
@@mule666 no it doesn't lmao. I haven't seen a EPDM roof that's lasted longer than 10 years or so. The sun dries it out and all patches start lifting over time. That's why it's the cheapest roofer. A mod bit or bur roof is the best, and only those last 20ish years at most
I am trying to repair my flat roof. I have applied the adhesive to the roof. When I lay felt onto the adhesive do I have to peel off the thin plastic sheet from the felt first? Absolute beginner here😮😮.
The problem is the person didn’t clean the curb good enough, or didn’t roll the form flashing good enough. I come across you silicone guys all the time. Usually just like you have done it with it all over the place. Makes it a pain in the ass for the guy who knows what he is doing.
@@gerardhoran Thanks for the compliments but I'm just another person here and learning from the roof doctor. I'll now probably do a roof job next spring and carefully watched several of the roof doctor's videos. When he showed the package on a product, I freeze frame and record the info for later. I just figured to give you the info in case your question wasn't noticed. All the best.
My biggest problem is that this video should be marked as an ad. Considering this is just another channel the "flat roof doctor" uses to advertise the product he manufacturers but pretends to be a non-biased contractor. Im all fine with you selling your snake oil if youre being honest.
I've just seen this as I'm thinking about options for repairing a flat roof in the UK. I'm afraid I wouldn't employ this guy if he lived next door. The roof wasn't cleaned or dried properly anyway, and this repair will probably last for a season at best. Given the high price of this stuff he was chucking it around like he was trying to sell it.😝
I use silicone rubber in the mould making industry and we always have to mix it with a catalyst liquid so that it cures. Where's the catalyst mixing in the video?
Hmm, someone doesn't get it. The fleece is what gives it its strength. Anytime you repair something, you don't only use the liquid over a crack and hope it will be ok. That liquid will dry and crack on the same line where the original crack was. Concrete without rebar is worthless. So is most liquids that are sold to make repairs
This is nothing but a patch on top of the other patches you mentioned. Unfortunately, in two to four years, you'll be putting another patch on top of that patch. It's a never ending battle with the sun and rain.

If it was me doing the repair, I'd have let the area dry longer or used a heat gun to drive out ALL moisture. Imo this was done too quickly for using a silicone type sealant. Moisture is the enemy of bonding with silicone. You use it to surface CURE silicone!!
What's needed here is some "politive slope" to remove the water away from the skylight that acts like a dam. Poor construction details. This roof is so flat that a cricket would not be possible. Silicone based products will not stick to EPDM roofs. Google it. Temporary patch at best. And the only way to clean EPDM is with EPDM membrane cleaner/splice wash and Scotch-brite fiber pad.
when there is water penetrating, the first thing to do is to first tear off the old layer, because you have to treat the rot underneath, BEFORE repairing!!
Bad sky light installation! Roof is only as good as the guys that put it on. If there any wet insulation around that sky light your fix is temporary at best.
That's why I'm watching videos...my roof keeps leaking...I spend 5 to 10 thousand dollars having a "professional" do my entire roof that is supposed to last for 10 years but never does so I'm watching videos to do it myself hopefully 😬🤣
@@sarahnichols4253 I did my roof by learning from this man, you don't need the $800 dollar component. Just be very careful using the torch down GAF TriPly modified Bitumen. If you rip off the old roof make sure you don't leave any holes or seams between wood where the flame can enter or you will burn down your house. Remove old roof cover with self stick base sheet and then with modified bitumen making sure you don't over heat or under heat the roll. I watch for an even orange flame going across both side then I roll and repeat. Takes time to learn and you'll do fine.

What happens to the water under those repair flap edges you pulled up? Won't that get trapped and cause bubbling later on?
Ya I would use a hair dryer to dry up the water under the rubber otherwise you'll have a problem.
