Bob's catalog is so extensive; he just put out hit after hit. And they all sound so good, and bring back so much nostalgia from growing up during that time. Enjoy going down the rabbit hole.
This song is about the seasons of life. When you're born, up into your early teens, you are in the Spring of your life. From your late teens to your early 30's you are in your summer. Mid 30's to your late 50's you are in the autumn. 60's on you are in you winter. "Woke last night to the sound of thunder. How far off I sat and wondered." He realizes that he is old now and his days are numbered, just wondering how many he has left. Now that I am about to turn 61, this song hits me like a sledgehammer.
Righto, James .Great description ...Ya, it's the winding down toward the finality of things . Or, as Johnny Carson was wont to describe , the final glidepath to the home .
Its an older man lookin back on life as a young man , explorin sex, livin by the sword , runnin with a young girl with points of her own, standing high
Bob Seger was the consumate story teller. I'm sure he spoke of his memories. He switches the meanings up so it relates to young and old both. He represents the Detroit sound of hard driving rock and roll.
I recommend Roll Me Away…one of my favorite! You can’t go wrong with any Bob Seger song. He is iconic and an amazing songwriter. I saw him just before COVID and he is still amazing.
Bob doesn't just sing or writes "songs". He tells stories, stories we could all tell if we only had the means. He always has an offering that touches my heart to where I wonder " How does he know me"?
This is pure Rock, rock is born from rythum n blues 💙. This is one of greatest singer-song writers. As you get older your appreciation of his songs will grow ❤️✌️😎
Bob Seger is legendary. Seger is good music to listen to when driving on the highway. His music always takes me back to a better and simpler time. Seger had a multitude of hits, but my favorite of his is Mainstreet. Love that song.
I love Like a Rock, Roll Me Away, Shame on the Moon, and of course Old Time Rock and Roll. There are many more songs of his I like but I'm tired of typing😄
"Night Moves" is considered heartland rock. Most of Seger's songs fall into either that or the hard rock, rock and roll, soft rock and country rock genres. Seger is fabulous and is one of my favorites. You can't go wrong diving into his music. Other songs worth a listen include Turn the Page, Mainstreet, Still the Same, Hollywood Nights, Against the Wind, You'll Accompany Me, Shame on the Moon, Roll Me Away, Like a Rock, and Shakedown, but there are many more. Very glad you enjoyed this and hope to hear more reactions to Bob Seger.
The really great thing about this song, is that, now that you've heard it once, you're going to keep coming back to it throughout the rest of your life. And, it will be more intensely meaningful to you at every single age in which you revisit it. It's one of those rare songs that will continue to get better to you with every new stage of life, from now on and forever more within your lifetime. I was fortunate enough to be the exact right age for this song to literally have been central to my outlook on life since I was an 18 year old who was already struck with nostalgia-addiction.
Transcendental song. Older guy looking back on his youth and his dalliances with his young lady friends. Wistful and nostalgic. Bob is one of the best story tellers in rock and roll history. "Hollywood Nights," "Roll Me Away." You should do "Like a Rock" next. It's sort of Part 2 of this song.
Thanks, Salvo.. this is probably my favorite by Bob... I especially love the evocative end.. "woke last night to the sound of thunder.... with autumn closing in.."... when you get to that point in the song, you realize how is was a "remembrance" of HS .... always enjoy your reactions...
Love your reaction to the great Bob Seger! I was just a baby when this song came out, so I grew up with it playing in the background. Of course, I didn't understand what the heck he was "actually" singing about back then! lol!!😅I just loved the sound of the music and his vocals!!🤗 IMO... it's an epic and timeless song both sonically and lyrically!! Anyway, great reaction and definitely dive into Bob's catalogue!!! It's nothing but greatness. For whatever it's worth, here are some of my personal favs... 1.) "BEAUTIFUL LOSER" 2.) "YOU'LL ACCOMP'NY ME" (yes accompany is spelled like that in the songs title! lol!!) 3.) "TURN THE PAGE"... (Metalica does an epic rendition of this one!👊) 4.) "HER STRUT" 5.) "THE FIRE DOWN BELOW" Whether you choose from one of those or not... you can't go wrong with any Bob Seger song! Great reaction!! Peace and light...💞
I have a friend who's Mom went to High School with Bob in Detroit. She says he used to fall asleep in class all the time from being out with all the MoTown bands all night. She asked him on several occasions if he was worried about his grades. Bob replied every time, I don't need this shit, I'm gonna be a Rock Star. One of my favorite 70s early 80s artists. As you said, all his music comes from a genuine place. It's not fake or made up. Something you can REALLY identify with. Great reaction. Keep the Bob Seger rolling.
BOB SEGER was born in Detroit, raised there till he was 5 years old, then they moved Ann ARBOR MICHIGAN! In Fact BOB SEGER went to and Graduated High school in Ann ARBOR not Detroit!
Growing up in 1970s Windsor/Detroit, Bob Seger's music was part of the atmosphere. Even today I hear his songs in regular rotation on the radio when I visit. He was a radio mainstay and local treasure long before he hit nationally, He looked and sang like a working man, and he sang working man songs - honest and relatable, without pretension. Bob Seger is the very definition of Heartland Rock. I'm so happy he ended up gaining the acclaim for which he laboured so many years.
I went to one too, and the crowd was a bunch of stiffs! Lol He started "Hollywood Nights" and I jump up, dancing & singing... only to realize I was alone in this lol well, me and the dude I went with.. still an awesome show by HIM, but boooo to that crowd! 😂😀
Love your reactions. This one is particularly near & dear. I'm a Michigan guy born & raised. My parents knew Bob from playing at the local bowling alley in Waterford, MI before he was famous. I don't remember the first time I heard Night Moves, or any Seger for that matter... He/his voice/these songs have been in my bones since I was born (1979). He was just "the sound" of when/where I grew up. When I was 32 I had some crazy panic attack thing - hard to explain. Long story short, while healing from that, I had this overwhelming nostalgia/gratefulness for my teenage years. I'm a musician, so, one night I was re-learning how to drive, went through a subdivision, past the girls house I used to sneak out with when I was 13/14 yrs old. Something magical happened & I had these pieces of a musical painting mysteriously begin arriving. I sewed them together to make my own "Night Moves" without knowing I was doing it. I heard the real Night Moves just recently & realized there are overlaps, example, the peak of my song I'm belting out "I remember". My relationship with this song is crazy & This week I've gone down the rabbit hole of getting emotional watching different ppl react/hear it for the first time. Yours is at or near the top. You really listen & really got it. Beautiful to watch, Man, thank you! Here's my own Night Moves, called "The Honeymoon Sweet". I found the girl on FB & mailed her the song with a letter explaining how it came to be. The rest she could remember lol. Hope you throw on some headphones & enjoy. soundcloud.com/dk18/alexis-2003
Great wake up song! Love this storyteller style he always has. The older I get the more I appreciate this ditty too, funny how that works! Thanks!!😉♥️✌
I'm thankful to have grown up with this music. In those days this music made me see how growing up through adolescents, teens and into a young man was highly adventurous, meaningful, and yet seemed like a continuum of time. Now much later I understand just how those playful and experimental days seem to fly away through the night. Though less feelings of being adventurous and and acceptance of greater limitations it's more a time to reflect and pass on hopefulness to another generation. So SalvoG you right. If one grew up listening to this song night moves may have been printed deeper in the heart and etched in memory and "night moves" may have a different meaning.
The atmosphere in that breakdown ("woke last night to the sound of thunder" etc.) has always gotten me. It reminds me of summers as a kid, waking up in the middle of the night to hear distant thunder, well before the time you could pick up a phone and find out "how far off" it was. The entire song is just nostalgic in so many ways. And as I am typing this you are talking about the nostalgia of the song, and you are spot on. I did grow up in the 70s and remember this song when it came out. When someone who didn't grow up in that time can get all that from the song, you know the songwriting is just that good. If you want more atmosphere, listen to the live version of Turn The Page. Along with Night Moves, it is tied for my all-time favorite Bob Seger song, and I think you will really love it.
@@jerryparks6123 glad music mellows your aggression. But seriously, thank God for perfect people like you to correct us poor souls just enjoying the music.
Hey Salvo.... I sent you a message the other day about checking Bob Seger out."SO glad you did" His catalog is top tier in the history of Rock. Go on the Seger journey he feels every word he sings, and you will too. Every reactor on you tube that hears Bob ends up absolutley hooked on this legend. Check out TURN THE PAGE next. A freaking classic. ENJOY
I was 15 years old when this song came out and just going through drivers education classes. This song brings me back to my time with my girlfriend or out in the woods with my buddies in a tree fort or on our dirt bikes. Hiding out under the canal bridge smoking a Doobie with my pals, cruising around in my 71 Thunderbird or my 65 Ford galaxy. Growing up south of Detroit Bob Seger was all over the radio.
You could literally do a whole night devoted to just Bob Seger songs. The rabbit whole is deep and glorious. And I would watch ever single video. Next in the line up: Like A Rock We’ve Got Tonight Mainstreet Still the Same
I have been to around 30 concerts in my life . Bob Seager 1978. Best concert ever ! I had seen Aerosmith , REO , Fleetwood Mac, Teddy and a few more but Bob put his heart and soul in his concerts ! Good luck with this rabbit hole . He has so many great yes great songs and if you go down this hole , you will get it . Thanks for some Bob Seger
Can't pick a favorite Of his songs. Thinking back to 1972 and lots of memories of how the night does move....his songs really hit you different after 50 years. Always great songs
The song hits home because just about all of us can relate to some of the lyrcis right? Being a teenager going through first experiences, etc. Not quite an adult, but still old enough, and not a care in the world.
Bob Seger ….. ❤ In 1976 when this came out, I had met my future husband and we played this 8 track in his Ford Van while Working on the Night Moves. He passed away in 2012. But I have wonderful memories. ❤
This is my all time favorite Bob Seger song takes me back to Summer of '69 and first love and learning night moves. This song always brings a tear as well as Like a Rock, Hollywood Nights, Ramblin'Gamblin'Man, and more
Anyone who was a teenager in the late 50s-early 60s, feels this song to the core of their being. By the late 1960s, the whole attitude towards sex, I think, changed a lot. I don't think sex was experienced the same way. I'm old enough (73) to appreciate the sentiment in this song. I certainly understand the idea of sex in the back of a 1960 Chevy wherever it happened, outside of town or at the local drive-in--Night Moves with really no clue what you were doing. By the late 1960s-early 1970s that began to change and sex was more open and not so hidden. That was definitely true for most of the 1970s. I've always loved Bob Seger, and I'm glad you chose this track to react to.
Saw him live in a BIG venue a few years ago. He still draws the crowds. We had to hold our tickets a year because his back went out on him--and man, do I feel him on that. The back may be slippin',, but the talent ain't-- he sounded EXACTLY the same as he did 40 years ago, no drag, no laboring, just as fresh as the days they were first performed. Great show. With autumn closing in.
I got to see Bob in concert many times, from his very long hair to his grey hair, and I was never disappointed. Turn the Page is great, so is Beautiful Loser, Still the Same, Like a Rock, Roll Me Away, the Famous Final Scene, etc, etc
Blue collar soul with a depth of self reflection over time that was unparalleled (at the time). When you’re a grownup, it really speaks to ya. Of all the great songs I know and enjoy, this is my favorite.
Welcome to Bob Seger....This is one of my favorite singers and songs. He is an amazing singer. You have so many great songs to choose from....can not go wrong with Seger !!!!!
It's a song that I can personally say "you had to be there during that time when the song first hit the air waves on your car radio" in order to relate and fully appreciate the song. It's nostalgic...everything in life seemed so good ❤️
I saw Bob Seger at Mount Holly, in Michigan, in 1970. There were a few people, that are now famous, that came through that small venue. Had a great time dancing there.
Into the rabbit hole young man! Bob Seger is a master at painting a perfect picture with his amazing lyrics and soulful voice. An absolute legend with way too many good songs too list. Just follow the white rabbit and enjoy. I really enjoy watching you youngbloods discovering all the great music I grew up on.
The 70s had some of the best music in every genre. Top quality bands, breakout classic solo artists and amazing musicians wrote and performed incredible songs without a lot of technical interference. It was chaotic at times but as you are seeing, the results still hold up today. Another artist you may want to consider is Glenn Campbell singing Galveston. He has a guitar solo that is extraordinarily complex and beautiful.
Bob is one of the greatest performers ever I am proud he is from my home state there is so many hits you could be there all day listening to him, and he is one of the nicest people ever. Here is another great song of many Roll Me Away
Saw Bob on his farewell tour (which I guess is still ongoing). Just great song after great song. A deep well for you to explore, Turn the Page is a great one.
Bob Seger Musts...."Roll Me Away", "Like A Rock", "Come to Poppa " !! These are just a few from this incredibly talented Singer/Songwriter..Bob Seger has always been in my top ten!!
You nailed it, this song is nostalgic. I am born and raised in Detroit and Bob is our hometown hero. The heart and soul of Detroit for us Rockers. So many memories of my youth when I grew up in the 70s and 80s. His songs can bring out so many emotions. Request for you to do, Come To Poppa - Bob Seger
This is one of my late sister's favorite bands. This always makes me cry, because I miss her so much 😭 I have Always loved him and his band. He keeps her alive in each of his songs.
Great, great rock & roll from one of the Masters of Rock. Bob Seger generated and enhanced so many wonderful memories from my teenage years. Friends, girls I loved (or thought I loved), parties, heartbreaks, romantic and just life's disappointments. This also brings out raw nostalgia of nights filled with anticipation, unmet expectations, and the very rare perfect night where everything went better than I imagined and this song has the power to help me go back in time and have those sad, happy, and bittersweet memories of great times taken for granted then and the desire to return and relive now.
Bob has so much more great music to hear and just as good. He is a master story teller and musicians. Any of the songs recommended below are good. I think you'd love seeing Bob live as you may not get another chance to hear him!
That folksy genre you're looking for is roots or Americana... Seger was a little more mainstream but there is a ton of that stuff -- try Steve Earle's Copperhead Road
Its hard not to believe in magical things when you hear something like this. It seems so deep in the human spirit and heart that it can't be just earthly, just notes on paper somewhere. Nothing without real magic could sound this good, be so emotional, and touch so deep.
It's incredible, because it starts out very basic, just kids trying to find a private place to get their rocks off. And then he pushes the lyrics into a whole other place. Yes, it's a song about teenage fumblings, trying to figure it out, getting it where ever you could find a place to give it a try, but then he moves to reflecting on how really impactive those brief hours were. I remember, yeah, yeah yeah, I remember... I remember, even now. Who doesn't? Sweet Summertime. And then that ominous, bitter-sweet, "...with autumn closing in..."
You just keep adding more gems to your rotation - it must just be that your audience is fabulous and gives great recommendations ;-) Again, you're playing the soundtrack of my youth and it's awesome to revisit it with you "getting" it! Can't share my experiences with this song - not as good as Bob at being subtle and "just right", lol - but now that I'm older, I definitely have a better appreciation for the last section
I was tending to my babies when Bob Seger hit the scene, and they loved that old time rock-n-roll! I loved your heartfelt reaction! Yes, please do more Bob Seger, try "Against the Wind" or "Like a Rock"!
I saw Bob Segar and The Silver Bullet Bad at the Richmond Mosque in the city of Richmond va in 77 or 78. Best concert EVER. Richmond Virginia was my hometown until last year
"He's got a very good voice" is my favorite understatement of the decade.
He realizes that he is old now and his days are numbered, just wondering how many he has left. Now that I am about to turn 61, this song hits me like a sledgehammer.
I’m also 61 & relate to the sledgehammer scenario so well!
Great analysis
Righto, James .Great description ...Ya, it's the winding down toward the finality of things . Or, as Johnny Carson was wont to describe , the final glidepath to the home .

Bob is a GOAT, please give a listen to “Turn the page” or “Like a rock”. The two songs are my personal favorites. Great reaction guy 🎶💕🦋
Exactly the two songs I was going to recommend!
The Famous Final Scene is an underrated masterpiece as well. Hard to go wrong with Seger!
The “Live Bullet” album is on of the greatest live albums of all time. Highly recommended.
amen to that.
Absolutely one of the "greatest" of all time!
Couldn't agree more Travelin' Man/Beautiful Loser is required listening.
💯% it’s absolute 🔥
I recommend Roll Me Away…one of my favorite! You can’t go wrong with any Bob Seger song. He is iconic and an amazing songwriter. I saw him just before COVID and he is still amazing.
Bob doesn't just sing or writes "songs". He tells stories, stories we could all tell if we only had the means. He always has an offering that touches my heart to where I wonder " How does he know me"?
I remember listening to this whole album in 1976, I was 14. It's funny HOW the night moves .✌
nice!!!!
Bob has one of those voices…..full of experience and life lived…both the good and the bad. So much character in that voice.
One of the great story tellers of all time! 😎👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Against The Wind is my absolute favourite Bob Seger song . I hope you react to it sometime.

Against the Wind... my all time favorite with many close seconds...
Bob is a vibe all his own.
Seconding this list. All of these are excellent suggestions and a perfect intro to Seger's work. 👍
This is one of my all-time favorites. This song takes me back to those awkward teenage days!

How I wish I had seen Bob live. I don't know if he is still touring but would love to see him.
Great reaction. Maybe try Segers song “ Hollywood nights”.
This song makes me remember, dance and weep.I still remember the night moves. At 73 yhe y are awesome memories.
Turn the Page, Like A Rock, Fire Lake, Her Strut....the list is is endless.
Hello how are you doing, it's nice meeting you on here.
I love how you said the song is extraordinary and how much soul it has before the revival at the end kicks in.
Thanks, Salvo.. this is probably my favorite by Bob... I especially love the evocative end.. "woke last night to the sound of thunder.... with autumn closing in.."... when you get to that point in the song, you realize how is was a "remembrance" of HS .... always enjoy your reactions...
I encourage you to watch the original video for "Like a Rock". Emotional experience. I was lucky to see Bob Seger in the late 70's

The great Bob Seger. The obvious hits among a large number are Hollywood Nights and We've got Tonight I guess.

A nice companion piece is Seger's "Against The Wind." A bit more introspective look into the seasons of life.

Night Moves is my favorite by Bob Seger. This was the first of ten hit singles released in a row.
All the people of that generation remember.... It was the best of times. The best music. The best cars.. the best memories...
Great reaction!!! Love Bob Segar!!!Try :

Hello how are you doing. Have you ever been to our concert ?
I was 15 years old when this song came out and just going through drivers education classes. This song brings me back to my time with my girlfriend or out in the woods with my buddies in a tree fort or on our dirt bikes. Hiding out under the canal bridge smoking a Doobie with my pals, cruising around in my 71 Thunderbird or my 65 Ford galaxy. Growing up south of Detroit Bob Seger was all over the radio.
You could literally do a whole night devoted to just Bob Seger songs. The rabbit whole is deep and glorious. And I would watch ever single video.
Next in the line up:
Like A Rock
We’ve Got Tonight
Mainstreet
Still the Same
I have been to around 30 concerts in my life .
I saw him , them , 3 times in one weekend in 1983 - best weekend of my life !
In 78, my first concert, Cobo Hall.
Pink Floyd was my fav concert
Can't pick a favorite Of his songs. Thinking back to 1972 and lots of memories of how the night does move....his songs really hit you different after 50 years. Always great songs
Summer of 75 for me. A girl, a car and enjoying each other and exploring everything. I think of that time and her every time I hear this song.
This song always brings a tear as well as Like a Rock, Hollywood Nights,
Ramblin'Gamblin'Man, and more
Roll Me Away
Saw him when it was the Seger and the Herd, through to Silver Bullet Band and it's ALL great. His songs bring back so many memories and emotions
Definitely more Seger!! Turn the page, Hollywood Nights, Still the same and Against the wind are my other faves!
Welcome to Bob Seger....This is one of my favorite singers and songs. He is an amazing singer. You have so many great songs to choose from....can not go wrong with Seger !!!!!
The song is exactly what it sounds like. There's no double meanings he's recalling his best memory.
❤❤❤❤
I’m a little jealous that you are hearing Bob for the FIRST time 😅
It's a song that I can personally say "you had to be there during that time when the song first hit the air waves on your car radio" in order to relate and fully appreciate the song. It's nostalgic...everything in life seemed so good ❤️
He sings a great story!!! To perfection!!! The instrumentals flow beautifully along with that story as well!!
"Autumn closing in" hits different when you think the first time you hear this song was 40-50 years ago...... Memories
He is such a great song writer and has one hell of s great voice. Definitely worth diving deeper into.
I love "with autumn closing in," middle age, on the back side of the hill. I grew up on this and now it's autumn. I'll be 59 this year.
Bob Seger Musts...."Roll Me Away", "Like A Rock", "Come to Poppa " !! These are just a few from this incredibly talented Singer/Songwriter..Bob Seger has always been in my top ten!!
I was 15 when this song came out and I enjoy it now as much as I did back then. Keep exploring Bob’s music. He has a long list of great songs. Enjoy!
One of my favorites from his. I used to play this in a band when I was 15. On drums. Great drum line!! Back in the 80’s.
I lived it. Drive Inn movie theatres
Love your honest and intelligent reactions to the best musical talent of this decade...
Hello how are you doing. have you ever been to our concert ?
I ran karaoke for four 35 years and have sand this song many times.... Always a fun one that always brings back good memories.
Bob Seger's best track......and he has many good tracks.
This one and against the wind are my two favorite by Bob Seger. This song Night Moves brings a tear to my eyes every time I hear it.
I saw Bob Segar and The Silver Bullet Bad at the Richmond Mosque in the city of Richmond va in 77 or 78. Best concert EVER. Richmond Virginia was my hometown until last year
