The perfect example of why my generation remains nostalgic.😊.
Perfect comment too 😊
The late 1900's were good times 😅
Yes!
It's Steve Perry. Everyone is kinda stunned when they hear his voice. It's overwhelming. I consider his voice to be the best rock voice ever.
Journey just isn't Journey without Perry. It's never been the same. His voice, talent and personality took them to the top. He will always be JOURNEY
Here is why they call him "THE VOICE!" No better vocalist comparable.
Steve Perry does this with such ease and it's just beyond belief. Best rock voice ever in my book.
Segers best Rock voice ever in my book! Have been a fan of his since LIVE BULLET, IM 69 YRS OLD!
And on the female side add in Ann Wilson...she and Perry are in the same category
For me it’s Steve Marriott and Steve Perry as a tie for best ever. But yes. Lol.
Agree wholeheartedly
I agree plus Freddie Mercury
That is the difference between then and now. No effects, no half dressed women, no twerking, Steve Perry is live, as is the entire band. This is how it was. Those effects did not exsist at this time. You made your way by pure talent. What you heard on a record, you heard in person. This was rock and roll.
Yes... you made your way by pure Talent...God Given 🙏✝️🙏Amen🙏
This is what happens when you mix a soul singer with rock. Steve Perry in his prime was a absolute beast. He can illicit emotions from the coldest of hearts. Steve Perry is top 5 ever to do it.
Journey was one of those bands that just OWNED the 80s.
Steve Perry is so underrated. His vocals are SO powerful.
That was 42 years ago... it was authentic, real raw talent, the joy of youth, a spirit of a generation loving life & looking forward to a future of possibilities & positivity.
A whole different world on those days.
Wonderful live performance. No pre-recorded background vocals, no auto-tune, just talent. No electronic tricks. They were not available then.
One of the best songs played live of all time...❤
Journey, “Open Arms, Live 1982”. “Lovin’ Touchin’ Squeezin’ live 1979”,. “Separate Ways”,. “Any Way You Want It”,. “Wheel in the Sky”, “Faithfully”,. “Who’s Crying Now”, and more.
Standing, singing, dancing. We all did it then. The band expected us to 'participate' to the event. That was what interactive should be
It still blows my mind that this band never won a Grammy. They should have at least 10, these new artist that receive Grammys like candy 🍭 don't realize how hard the competition was back then. So many bands, so much great music 🎶
you've answered your own question, back then we had a lot of great bands and singers 😢
There is just something about the purity of Steve's voice and his absolute control over that instrument that does something to everyone's souls.
I can understand you are from a different generation, but this is one of the greatest rock voices of ALL time! It always surprises me when there are people out there that never heard of Steve Perry!
One of the best rock voices ever. He’s amazing.
The goat 🐐
He was able to keep control of his voice and sound as if he was singing on an album while running around on stage. Love him and his voice.
No back up singers just pure talent. This is true talent!💯
I'm 60 years old now and the greatest concerts I've ever been to have been the four times that I witnessed Journey. By the end of every show Steve Perry was a complete sweat soaked hero. He NEVER missed a note. Not once! What you heard on the radio is what he delivered. You left each concert truly believing that he gave everything he had in the tank
Yep, I'm an old man now but I was so fortunate to see Journey Live and it was an astounding experience. Steve Perry's voice is as good or better if that's possible when he sings live. I have a lot of bands from that era that I really like but for me Journey will always be my favorite, the band along with Steve's vocals for me were second to none !!
That's how it was ..we were spoiled with great music back then !
Yes, live voice, no autotune, no lip syncing, just pure talent!
I saw Journey in concert in 1982 (Denver, CO).
My husband saw them in concert in 1981 (Pasadena, CA).
Phenomenal and unforgettable! ❤❤❤
Steve Perry's voice touches one's soul. ❤
You know a band are good when their live versions eclipse the studio tracks.
Singers from that era (I was in high school) just had incredible voices. No auto tune and no studio editing made singers have true talent. Steve Perry was one of the best.
Yes. If you grew up in the 70s and 80s you got spoiled because you also had the music of your parent's era where the quality was even better although the style was very different.
We were blessed with the best music! Pure talent! Ann Wilson is the female version of Steve. She's 72 and sounds like back in the day.
THE BEST!!!!!!!!!! GOAT!!!!!!!1
yeah i don’t get the appeal of auto tune at all
There really is something special about Steve Perry's energy onstage, and you can feel it within the first seconds of hearing his voice, but it's only really communicated when you SEE him sing. I don't know how to describe it other than that it feels like he's just... manifesting connection with everyone there. He's here to see everyone enjoy themselves, and he loves it, and knows how good he is at it, but it comes across as almost... humble, for lack of a better word. The man's voice is a gift, and every line he sings says "This is for you. This is for us."
"This is his... live voice? I don't know what to say..." I literally lol'd. 😆 That's the right reaction to Steve Perry/Journey. Got an instant sub outta me. 😁
His live voice is better than the studio I’ve seen them several times, the best live voice EVER,!
Even a recording of a live performance doesn't do it justice. Hearing him live sent shivers down your spine.
seriously you have seen them several times ? You dont look to be in your 60's or 70's...I am 74 and saw them live in 78..They broke up in 1987....
Ehhh I think David Draiman of Disturbed is right up there with Live being better than the studio
Morten Harket.
Steve's voice IS AN Instrument! Fricking awesome singer! DSB is one of the most classic rock tunes...
Maybe the greatest voice in rock history, tremendous range.
One of the greatest concert tours EVER! Steve Perry's voice was always amazing and effortless-he never made mistakes, Neal's guitar...wish you could have been to one of their live shows! Their shows were SO much fun and the band really drew the crowd in. Thanks for taking me back to that time❤
It makes me emotional not seeing people stare into a phone and just enjoy the moment!
Steve Perry is a singer who is often copied, but no one could ever come close. Eternally love him❤
Yes, this is his Live voice. Steve truly had a Golden voice and the knowledge to use it. Stone in Love is another great song from this concert. Hell pick any song off this concert and it's going to be a banger.
Yes! Stone In Love!
Yes!!! Stone in Love!!!!
Absolutely
so so glad to see the younger generation enjoy the wonderful music we had! Enjoy!!!
Hello Susanna,
how're you doing?
Your comments caught my attention
and that is why I am reaching out to you.
Your fan love for me warms my heart, Thank you!
It's nice meeting you here.
Back when you had to have actual talent! No auto tune, no tricks, just talent!
Amen man. Amen.
Technology has killed the singer.
@@angelagriffin9979 Depends on who you are listening to. PTX has singers whose voices will blow you out of the water.
@@angelagriffin9979 in many areas of life and society, use of technology has dulled human understanding and abilities. It's been happening to a great extent since WWII. No one knows how to grow food, slaughter, loosing the ability to get around without GPS, the arts are dying as well.
@@karehelene There are the exceptions. But so few and far between. Off the cuff, I can come up with at least 20 from the 70's and 18 from the 80's that are amazing singers, no auto tune.
come on .Journey is the most Awesome band ever if your in love man. they will live for ever and more.
Steve Perry was unmatched! One of the most iconic voices ever
The days of 60s, 70s, and 80s rock and Roll are gone and will never be repeated. Thank goodness we have some of these great performances recorded!
Will never be matched . I say this as having been a musician from those days playing 7 nights a week ...you will never see nothing like it again
Yep, no tricks, no autotune just pure talent. Clear as water. He was actually nicknamed Steve “ the voice” Perry because of how unbelievable people found his voice to be. This is officially my favorite reaction, one of the only Rock voices in history to both give me chills and tears when I heard him for the first time when I was 11. I’ve never been so proud that my parents raised me on stuff like this instead of all the crap on the radio these days. This is real music, real rock. Listening to Journey is more than just listening to good music, it’s an experience. It never fails to blow people’s minds. I get a surge of endorphins just seeing that face people make when he starts singing. 😄
IMO, he's one of the best vocalists EVER!! I don't believe that there ever was a song from Steve Perry that I don't love. Now, I have to listen to tons of his songs......
Now you know why we older people say our music is better.
Acts had to have real talent, or they didn't make it. There was no corporate backing, internet, computer aid (autotune, etc). They had talent and worked their asses off to make it.
Dive in in to Journey live. That concert there, front to back, is a great start.
Happy Thanksgiving.
When he sings, every note reaches your soul. Not everyone can do that. He is so special. He makes a singer want to be better at their gift.
The greatest singer of all time Steve Perry ❤️
And this was will no auto tune just pure talent.
STEVE PERRY FOREVER!!!!!🙌🙌🙌🙌
You absolutely need to do "Mother, Father" from this same show. Possibly one of the best live vocals of any rock singer ever.
My absolute favorite Steve Perry vocal!!!❤️
Agreed. Steve has said many times that it was the most difficult Journey song to sing. And Steve Smith said it was his favorite drumming performance on the album.
2nd this suggestion/request.
Yes definitely!
@@joelhammond4162 I 3rd this suggestion!
He was the best rock male vocalist
Perfect response to an epic performance. Steve Perry is a generational talent. Love him and his electrifying, incomparable voice.
We had the best music during 70's & 80's. ❤
Boy can that man sing. What a voice
yes Steve Perry ...one of the greatest voices ever.
today’s youth have no idea what it was like to grow up in the 80’s… the ultimate era. No cell phones so the second u walked out of your house nobody knew where u were… the best music playing 24/7 on the radio and all we teens wanted to do was get high, get laid and get high again.
Back in those days you HAD to be able to sing live. They did not have autocorrect at all. This is pure talent and the reason they were so popular.
This is why the song was voted "Song of the Millennium" .... Best song of ALL TIME
Steve's voice is so powerful and recognisable, his songs are the best around
Steve tem seis linhas vocais impossiveis. O dom que Deus lhe deu, incrivel, fabuloso, uma voz de ouro.❤
It is all about being in the presence of something truly beautiful.
When it comes to groups and artists of the 70's-80's the feeling is the same and they were amazing live.
THAT'S WHY THEY CALL HIM THE VOICE DON'T STOP GOING DOWN THAT RABBIT HOLE WITH THE GROUP JOURNEY WITH STEVE PERRY I'LL JUST SAY THEY ARE AWESOME 💜
John Farnham is the voice ua-cam.com/video/dv54giOSRKs/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/6m2m_9Uijso/v-deo.html
Undoubtedly one of the best bands of the 80's and one of the best voices of all time. Old school my friend, old school. Marvelous!!
Mother Father live even more amazing!❤🔥🤘
this is one of THE ANTMEHS of the world...
Rock of ages moive makes this song shine just like this version does
His voice is unbelievable- Freddie, Steve and George Michael= perfection ❤
Whos crying now...same show!
Anyone that does NOT react this way to Steve Perry and Journey, has a screw loose. This man's vocals resonate so intensely within the body. And I agree with Frozen Rose: Mother, Father is A MUST from this show!
This performance is THE ONE I’ll always remember with his jeans and tennis shoes; so 80’s….MAN, I MISS THAT DECADE❤️❤️🥰
One of the best power anthems ever composed. It made you emotional because it was simply superb. And his voice is just sublime….untethered to the earth. It just SOARS. The beauty and power of his voice still gives me chills even after 40 years. One of the most perfect pop rock voices in history
He left the band in 1987 or so. The dream had turned sour…drugs and fame had taken a toll. He became a semi-recluse back in his hometown. Married the love of his life snd lost her to cancer. Released three solo albums. But never reunited with Journey nor sang with them again he walked away from it all. His decision, but DAMN I wished he’d made more music with them. His voice was a gift ….but the success it brought turned it into a burden for him. And that saddens me.
Helene, Steve never married Kellie Nash. She did die of cancer; he knew her situation when they started dating. He walked away from Journey because the band was pushing him to get hip replacement surgery. That was an individual decision to make, and not a band decision. Journey had already started interviewing new singers; the writing was on the wall.
I will listen to Steve and buy his records as a solo artist, but no way will I listen to Journey with Arnel as the front man.
@@SueK51 I get both sides of that issue As I understand it, Steve wanted to try a naturopathic approach which meant there was no way to tell how long the process would be snd how long the band would have to wait for him. The band….. because time is money, wanted him to try surgery so they could work with a schedule and set up touring dates etc. I understand that completely. It was Steve’s decision for sure, but major decisions like that which effect the livelihoods of so many people have consequences to them.
What Joseph said is right on. That's what makes music from the 70's and 80's so AMAZINGLY untouchable today.....UNFILTERED PURE RAW TALENT..... Check out all of their music.............but only with Steve Perry........AND ONLY LIVE!!! Journey was never the same, IMO, after Steve left. ENJOY
Totally agree on the best rock voice ever!!! Could sing anything!
Steve Perry was known as "The Voice". He had amazing energy didn't he! Don't Stop Believing along with Bohemian Rhapsody were inducted into the Library of Congress this year. Well deserved honor for both!
It makes you emotional because He could draw that out of people like no one else. He's a phenomenon the likes of we may never see or hear again.
The singer who is with “Journey” now is very good indeed, but just doesn’t have the soul of Perry.
"Mother Father" live from same show. Mind blowing. Best vocalist.
You look stunned!! 🤣. Yes..... that's his REAL voice!
This performance hits exactly where it needs to...In the Heart! This is real...especially when everything comes together so beautifully...Yes this is very specially...Ty brother!
Steve Perry had the best voice in rock and roll, ever.
Steve Perry is The Voice for a reason. One of the best voices of all time. Hes up there with Freddie Mercury for me. (And person ally I like him better. )
We had it good back then. We had so many artist with raw talent back then. So glad that I grew up in that era.
There's something moving about watching the performance of a true master. I hope the people in the audience appreciated it. I would have loved to see the original lineup of this group perform live.
Recorded or live, Steve Perry has the most unbelievable vocal talent. and powerful too. And...he makes it look easy. No strain...ever!
Absolutely Mother Father
Steve perry is royalty.
No explanation needed...many feel that way listening to Steve. Open Arms from this concert is fabulous! Steve Perry - "The Voice"!
And this is why Steve Perry is known as 'The Voice.' Superb.
I was lucky enough to see Journey in concert back in the 70's. GREAT show!!!
Steve Perry is THE VOICE. Any video from this 1981 live Houston Escape Tour is just as outstanding. Love your reaction 😊
Journey was one of the few bands that sounded absolutely amazing live!!
Saw them live in 79 and 82 and Steve is renowned for his countertenor vocal range and the same live as recorded, just phenomenal...Dubbed "The Voice". In the Top “100 Greatest Singers of All Time”. The whole concert is amazing...U really need to hear their song "Mother Father"...U do get those emotions specially when u see them live...Thanx for the memories, Great reaction
Looking back, we loved our artists. Not idolize because many families still believed in God, but truly loved them for the music they created for us. No matter your childhood, alot of songs inspired, encouraged and just took us put of our problems for the moment.
this was my first concert in high school. It was a few days in front or back of that show. On the floor with a girl on my shoulders for a while. Welcome to REAL music. REAL musicians with NO AUTOTUNE computer crap. MOTHER FATHER shows Steve's HIGH range at the end. Any Way You Want It. The guitarist played with Santana when he was 15-16.
this is simply the most uplifting good feeling HOPE FOR THE FUTURE song EVER!!!!
I just read that Steve Perry and Dolly Parton will sing, "Open Arms" on her upcoming album. That should be amazing!
Enjoy. Steve’s notes are perfectly on pitch whether high or low. Just stunning.
Yea. Imagine a time when you had to play, sing, and perform everything live. No computers, no help. Bands like this shame most of what we get that called music today. And Steve Perry's voice, dear lord...
“Wow” is about the only way to describe this performance. I saw them on this tour when they came through Chicago. Best Concert Ever ♥️ and Yes Everyone was on their feet screaming. It seems he captured the Souls of His Audience. Very Powerful Singer. Has it really been over 20 years ?
Seems like just yesterday for me and what we all wouldn’t Pay to Roll those Dice Just One ☝️ More Time 🥰
This is a reaction video! "That is his live voice" yes it is, Crazy!
In an Era of phenomenal vocalist, Steve Perry was known as THE VOICE.
One of the best voices ever
Mother Father-1981- definitely agree that’s must watch vocals. ❤️🎶❤️
I believe at one time he held the world record for being able to sing the most octaves.
