This was amazing!! So impressed with their reading skills! It is so helpful when you show the books, it helps me recognize them at book sales! Thank you for going to the trouble for us! I always use your kid’s recommendations for book purchases- great video, thank you!
Wow that is so many books! I’m going to be a new homeschooling mom this year and one of my goals is to have my daughter read more. And also a challenge for myself to read more books!
Thank you for the reviews. When you assign your kids books, do you choose them all over the summer and give them a stack or choose throughout the year. And how much say do your kids get in the books. Like do you help direct them towards a genre you think they will like or just a wide selection of age appropriate books. Thanks for all you do Ashlee. You make homeschooling so much easier for the rest of us moms!! 🥰
Ashley, I would love to know how you go about assigning readers. Are these all assigned via the various curriculums you’re using or do you select them separately? We’re planning to use TGTB LA 4 next year, for example, and wondering what was part of curriculum and what was separate. Also, would love to see how their independent reading fits in your day! A video on how you’ve gotten them to spend more time reading over the years would be amazing too. Thank you so much
I'm curious about this too! What qualifies and assigned reader versus independent reading? Do you pick these or do they? Is it a case like in our home we read at least 30 mons a day but they generally pick those books (with approval). So would those be the "assigned" and then anything else personal? Like last night after her normal 30 mins my daughter read a whole magic treehouse book.
Love this! The video of your kids review on their books was a favorite of mine when you did it before so I was excited to see you did it again! Thanks for trying to show the books too! So helpful!
Wow that’s amazing how many books your boys read!! So much!! I love it! Also I grew up reading the Mandie mystery books and looooove the series. I think your 4th grader would love them too. There are at least 30-40 books in the series.
Let's head to Amazon and Thiftbooks lol!! Awesome recommendations! My daughter enjoyed the Ashes, Chains and Forge books as well. She will read The Boy in Striped Pajamas this summer. She also enjoyed Fever 1793.
Thank you!!! I agree that it’s very helpful to see the book covers. Since so many others also seem to find it helpful to see the cover of the book, maybe you could pick the book up from the top of the stack and then find it on the sheet…seems like finding the title on the sheet would be faster than searching through the pile for a title.
Thank you for taking the time to show the books! It’s very helpful. My kids watched this with me and we’re amazed at how many books your kiddos read! We decided we’re definitely going to buy your reading logs! My kids said “we want to read as many books as her kids do!” I can definitely see how the reading logs would be helpful to show them (and me!) just how much they read in a year!
Thank you so much. My oldest is going into 3rd grade and would enjoy may of the books your youngest read. I am visual and seeing them make a huge difference!
I agree with your thoughts on the Wild Robot books. We read the first one aloud as a family this year and I was honestly underwhelmed given the hype about it. My kids thought a few parts were funny. My 4 boys are about the same ages as your kids. Our favorite family read-aloud this year was A Wish in the Dark.
In Grandma's Attic!! I have all mine from my childhood :) I love this! And showing the books is totally worth it ;) I'm a visual and recognized a lot of those based on the cover--not because of their title. So many great recommendations!!! Always enjoy your videos! Blessings.
Thank you for this wonderful video!! Wow- I am so impressed with how many books your kiddos read!! Very inspiring!! Do you have a video on how you plan out your daily schedule for each child? I remember seeing something like this in the past.
Would you consider doing for a video on how you decide which books to purchase vs. which to get at the library? I’m thinking about this now for next school year since we are doing U.S. history. Already have purchased a few books but might also get some from the library! I think it’s nice to have them available all year since I’m not sure exactly when we will be reading them but obviously more economical to go the library route. ☺️
It is helpful to see the book, thank you for taking the time to do that. My kiddos get excited to see their reading logs completed and compare how they liked/disliked a book and talk about it.
I have been wanting to read the giver, especially after everything that is going on in the current climate, this review pushed me to order it! I really love these book reviews I have found many books to read after watching so thank you!
Thanks so much for this video! One question for you: how do you have your kids read these books? On their own? Aloud to you? How much per day? My oldest is not a reader, but I am and long for her to love it like I always have. Thanks so much!
Sorry to comment on an older video. I was looking for book ideas for my daughter and I’ve always loved your homeschool recommendations. I feel like you had a video on your top picks for the YWAM missionary stories but I can’t seem to locate that video. Was that you? Sorry if not! My daughter will be turning 9 so I’m leaning towards the Lightkeepers series or the YWAM missionary stories. Would you suggest one over the other to get us started? Any specific ones? As always thank you for your continued videos. They are so encouraging and helpful.
Thank you for showing us these books! I'm impressed at how much they read! How do you incorporate independent reading in the day? I am an avid reader myself and hope my children become the same way 🙌
Alot of great books I hadn't heard about! When do you assign the readers? Do you have a video where you show what you will be assigning for the next years?
Thanks for this! Have you talked about how reading works for your family? Is it mostly done in free time or scheduled and do you set expectations for how many books they read?
Do you have a video about how you choose your assigned readers? I always struggle to assign books. I appreciate when you hold up the book, and don't mind if it takes you a.minute to find it.
You may have already answered but how do you do there reading time? I have a 7&8 year old girls and trying to figure that out for them. Thank you for all your wonderful help! You definitely help this mama out!
Thank you for this video. I really enjoyed it. God put it on my way. I been looking for a book recommendation for my soon to be 7th grade boy and this video was so helpful. Thank you, God bless 🙏🏼
Added so many to our list! I like seeing the covers. Maybe putting them in order in the pile of their list would help you? If not no worries! Thanks again for sharing 🥰
I screen shot most of your youngest daughters choices!! My daughter is going into 4th grade next year, and these all look like ones she’ll love! Which book would Olivia recommend if she could choose 1 or 2 from TGTB pile??
So many books! How do you get your kids to read all of these books in a year? My 4th grader read what I thought was a lot of assigned readers plus library books, but I wish they would read as much as yours did!
Awesome suggestions!! My kids are voracious readers, and it's difficult to trust the library books. Also impossible to prescreen all their books. I'm trying to build our home library with wholesome books, and these are all great suggestions. I'll be sure to use your affiliate link for any I order through Amazon! :)
Man I have to say I'm jealous! My 12 yr old son hates to read, and in 2 years homeschooling he still hasn't read a book on his own, though I read out loud to them a lot. I wonder what you might do if you had a child like that? My 10 yr old son doesn't love to read either, but he will read a little. My 7 yr old daughter however loves to read! Crossing my fingers my 5 yr old will love it too. Any advice for my oldest book-hater?
I’d say try to find something they are interested in. It might just be finding their interest or certain genre they are in to. Have them try different types of books and see.
Love this! Thank you. How do you come up with their assigned readers? I have a hard time finding books for them to read that are appropriate. Now I have this amazing video but I would love to know how you find all these amazing books for your kids.
I can’t believe how many books your kids read! I guess we are really slacking. 😬 But all three of my kids dislike reading. How much time a day do yours usually read? When you say assigned, do you mean you assigned them or a curriculum you’re using assigned them? I wrote down several I think they will like, thanks for the ideas!
I am so impressed by how much your kids read! Is this all in the 20-30 minutes their LA curriculum requires? My kids loved hearing the books your kids read and asked if I would assign them stacks like that for next year!
Awesome video, thank you for sharing!! Maybe for next time just have your books in order from each child list before filming, I think it will help you. We don’t mind though 😉🙏🏼
For GI Joe and Lilly my husband read it to screen it for our 5th grader. It is focuses on their hardship and life, not the war. It is depressing and adult content with their love story. He said he recommends it to older audience 7th grade and up.
You’re videos are so helpful and inspiring! Thank you! How many chapters do you assign per day for each of your grade levels outside of their assigned reading in G and B? And do your kids read more than the amount of chapters you assign?
The lower stars on the books from TGTB HS 1 books makes me nervous 😂😂 My son really dislikes reading so I'm worried these won't fly with him next year! Hopefully I'm wrong 😬🥴😂
I promise I’m not trying to hate on TGATB because we ordered plenty of stuff from them, but it seems like more of their books are getting lower/average stars (3stars). Would you say that seems to be true as opposed to other books?
Great question. It’s because my kids have their favorite genres and interests and those are usually not published by tgatb. I am thankful for their library though because it causes my children to read outside what they gravitate towards naturally. So 3 stars to my kids probably means it wasn’t a thrilling tale.
Okay first off, wow! 😂😂GO Y’ALL🥳🥳 For the family read alouds how much time is spent daily on that? After about 30 mins my voice is like DONE ✅ Also, how do you make sure your kids are actually reading? Because my kids have tried to tell me they read something and I can tell they aren’t being truthful... Great vid! Thanks
Ashes, Chains and Forge are such good books! I read them myself this year as an adult and I thought they were great. If you ever have any extra time you should start one. They are addictive... you'll want to read the whole series! 🙂
It is incredibly helpful when you show the actual books. Thank you! I don’t mind if it takes you a few moments to locate the book.
Thanks for letting me know!
This was amazing!! So impressed with their reading skills! It is so helpful when you show the books, it helps me recognize them at book sales! Thank you for going to the trouble for us! I always use your kid’s recommendations for book purchases- great video, thank you!
I loved seeing the covers! It helped me recognize books we actually own that I didn’t remember just from hearing the title. Thank you! 💗
Wow that is so many books! I’m going to be a new homeschooling mom this year and one of my goals is to have my daughter read more. And also a challenge for myself to read more books!
Thank you so much for this video! I'm struggling so much this year with what books to read and assign, this was so helpful
Thank you for showing the actual books! This is one of my favorite videos from last year!
Thanks for this and yes I enjoy seeing the covers it helps give a little context to the title.
I’ve done both of the above ways. This past year I just let them choose off the shelf!
Where do you get your books and how do you decide what to make them read?
Ashley, I would love to know how you go about assigning readers. Are these all assigned via the various curriculums you’re using or do you select them separately? We’re planning to use TGTB LA 4 next year, for example, and wondering what was part of curriculum and what was separate. Also, would love to see how their independent reading fits in your day! I loved Chains, Forge, Ashes. Such great detail without being overly graphic.
Love this! The video of your kids review on their books was a favorite of mine when you did it before so I was excited to see you did it again! Thanks for trying to show the books too! So helpful!
Glad it was helpful!
This was super helpful to me in my homeschool last year so I’m thankful you did it again!
Wow that’s amazing how many books your boys read!! So much!! I love it!
Also I grew up reading the Mandie mystery books and looooove the series. I think your 4th grader would love them too. There are at least 30-40 books in the series.

How do you choose which books you will make assigned for the year? Also, what does your read aloud time look like?
Watch my morning basket times!
We are on Book 6 of the Hidden Scrolls series and my 7 and 5 year old boys LOVE them!
Thank you! I loved seeing the covers!
Thank you! This is so helpful for making book lists and purchases for my kids. Thanks to your kids for rating the books, too!
Love these book review videos. I already added some for my 4th grader to my Amazon cart. Thanks for sharing, Ashlee! 😊
Thank you!!! I agree that it’s very helpful to see the book covers. I loved this video! Please do every year!!!
Thank you! I just compiled a list for my soon to be fourth grader. I loved the Mandie series when I was a kid. ☺️
Thank you so much. My oldest is going into 3rd grade and would enjoy may of the books your youngest read. I am visual and seeing them make a huge difference!
Thanks for making this video. I got list of books to order now.

Loved seeing the books despite the troubles finding them. Thank you for showing them.
Thank you for this wonderful video!! Wow- I am so impressed with how many books your kiddos read!! Very inspiring!! Do you have a video on how you plan out your daily schedule for each child? I remember seeing something like this in the past.
Love book ideas!! Thank for the video!!
I do LOVE seeing the books!! 🙂
This is such a great idea! Thank you for making this video!! I loved seeing the covers. Books are my 13 yr old (and my) love language!
My kids enjoyed watching this with me.

This was awesome! You gave us so many great ideas. Thank you!
So many of these books I have never heard of. What a great list!
Love this book review.. love seeing the covers as well❤️
Thank you so much for going through all of these books for us! Even without caffeine! Your kids read really fast! That's a ton of books!
It is helpful to see the book, thank you for taking the time to do that. My kiddos get excited to see their reading logs completed and compare how they liked/disliked a book and talk about it.
I always enjoy these videos! It's hard finding wholesome books now so I appreciate it! Looking into those light keeper's books.
Thanks for the ideas!
I have been wanting to read the giver, especially after everything that is going on in the current climate, this review pushed me to order it! I really love these book reviews I have found many books to read after watching so thank you!
I recently discovered there were three other books in the Giver series ! Read them all! Just saying this in case I wasn’t the last to know ha-ha
Yay! I’ve been waiting for this video!
I love books too. Great reading lists... Well done kids.
Thank you! this is a gem for me😊
Love this ❤ Can you do a video about how you developed a love for reading in each of your children?
Thank you for this review!!
Thanks so much for going through all these! I added several to my Amazon cart as you were reading them off.
One of my fave videos!
Thanks so much for this video! One question for you: how do you have your kids read these books? On their own? Aloud to you? How much per day?
My oldest is not a reader, but I am and long for her to love it like I always have. Thanks so much!
I love to watch your book reviews!! We are always searching for good books to read. Thank you so much to you and your kids for sharing!!
Writing them all down :) Thanks for all the recommendations, they are so helpful!
This list is so helpful! Thanks so much for sharing! And wow your kids read a lot!!! I'm definitely slacking 🙈
This was so helpful thank you
Sorry to comment on an older video. I was looking for book ideas for my daughter and I’ve always loved your homeschool recommendations.

For this upcoming school year, I HIGHLY recommend reading the Wingfeather Saga as a read aloud. I cried. You will cry. Your kids may cry. So good!
Have your kids read the Chronicles of Narnia series? Anne of Green gables series? The little house series?
I love these videos to get good reading ideas! Thanks. :)
Thanks for this! Have you talked about how reading works for your family? Is it mostly done in free time or scheduled and do you set expectations for how many books they read?
This is a great video!
Do you have a video about how you choose your assigned readers? I always struggle to assign books.
I appreciate when you hold up the book, and don't mind if it takes you a.minute to find it.
This was great! I got a good list going now. We read books like crazy.
Thanks Ashley!
Hope your heart is settling down
Been doing much better thank you!
I tried lol but they overlap kids sometimes!
Super helpful!
How do you handle them not liking a book they’ve started? Do they finish or do they pick up another book instead?
I screen shot most of your youngest daughters choices!! My daughter is going into 4th grade next year, and these all look like ones she’ll love! Which book would Olivia recommend if she could choose 1 or 2 from TGTB pile??
The daschund ones she says
So many books! How do you get your kids to read all of these books in a year? My 4th grader read what I thought was a lot of assigned readers plus library books, but I wish they would read as much as yours did!
Oh my I had a lot of TGTB that ranked low in my cart
Do you do any type of book review quizzes?
Awesome suggestions!! My kids are voracious readers, and it's difficult to trust the library books. Also impossible to prescreen all their books. I'm trying to build our home library with wholesome books, and these are all great suggestions. I'll be sure to use your affiliate link for any I order through Amazon! :)

I'm right there with you. My son doesn't like reading 😕
Try eye tracking exercises
I’d say try to find something they are interested in. It might just be finding their interest or certain genre they are in to. Have them try different types of books and see.
No, we love seeing the books. Don't stress searching for them. It's ok :)
I love these end of year recaps! Not sure if I missed it but do you have them write a summary for each assigned reading?
No I do not. Occasional book reports for my youngers and olders we discuss
Love this! Thank you. How do you come up with their assigned readers? I have a hard time finding books for them to read that are appropriate. Now I have this amazing video but I would love to know how you find all these amazing books for your kids.
I just have saved from my olders and take notes when one catches my eye or is mentioned. Sonlight has great lists!
Thank you for sharing these!! The older the girls get, the harder it is to find good books!
Mine do a chapter a day required. They read more on their own!
This is why I want to homeschool my son. I never read this many books in school, especially 5 star books.
I am so impressed by how much your kids read! Is this all in the 20-30 minutes their LA curriculum requires? My kids loved hearing the books your kids read and asked if I would assign them stacks like that for next year!
Yes that’s what La says, but the exceed it on their own accord
Awesome video, thank you for sharing!! Maybe for next time just have your books in order from each child list before filming, I think it will help you. We don’t mind though 😉🙏🏼
Where do you like to buy your books?
For GI Joe and Lilly my husband read it to screen it for our 5th grader. It is focuses on their hardship and life, not the war. It is depressing and adult content with their love story. He said he recommends it to older audience 7th grade and up.
My son was in 6th and said it was sad and had some graphic war information but he enjoyed it.
You’re videos are so helpful and inspiring! Thank you! How many chapters do you assign per day for each of your grade levels outside of their assigned reading in G and B? And do your kids read more than the amount of chapters you assign?
I require a chapter a day. The read more often on their own!
The lower stars on the books from TGTB HS 1 books makes me nervous 😂😂 My son really dislikes reading so I'm worried these won't fly with him next year! Hopefully I'm wrong 😬🥴😂

Love mandie books
Great, off to buy more books 🤣🤣🤣💰💰💰
Hahah sorry
Okay first off, wow! 😂😂GO Y’ALL🥳🥳
For the family read alouds how much time is spent daily on that? After about 30 mins my voice is like DONE ✅
Also, how do you make sure your kids are actually reading? Because my kids have tried to tell me they read something and I can tell they aren’t being truthful...
Great vid! Thanks
Do you Buy all of them? Thrift stores or half price books perhaps?
I buy them all. Often full price, but we use them through 4 kids before I pass them on as gift or sell them to other homeschool moms
Oh my goodness that’s so many books! Do your kids sleep? 🤣 I’m really impressed!!
Haha they do, but a book goes everywhere and that’s their own choice!
Thinking you and your kids may like our current read aloud, Summer of the Monkeys if you haven't read it yet. 🐒📚💕💕
Do you assign chapters or a certain amount of time?
Depends. Usually chapters. 1 per day
Is it just me or did your husband maybe encourage those warrior books because the cover looks like a cartoon version of him 😂😂
Ashes, Chains and Forge are such good books! I read them myself this year as an adult and I thought they were great. If you ever have any extra time you should start one. They are addictive... you'll want to read the whole series! 🙂
I also enjoyed seeing all the book covers! 👍🏼
