  • Meal preparation to aid Pluto takes a bit of time but is rather simple. This video is a simple step by step prep for both the meatballs and a soft lick-able meal.
For the first 6 years Pluto ate meatballs whole. This allowed him to gain weight fast and then maintain a healthy weight. When he was unable to swallow the meatballs we had to change up our methods and find a way that suited him. Getting food into his stomach via gravity sounds easy but its simply not.
I hope this video helps those that need some visual aids to preparing food for a megaesophagus dog.

Thankyou for sharing my dog has been diagnosed with this a month or so ago an I wasn’t given much advise from the vet which is very sad we pay them an expect them to give good advise
I’ve had to research an there isn’t much out there so appreciate you putting the advice an info out there anything helps I will try this
I have been teaching him to sit upright on the corner of our sofa (leather one luckily wipable ) an he’s taken to it very quickly
But the food has been a hit an miss
He used to eat kibble but now can’t chew or lick or swallow as he used to so teaching him to eat slower is an issue but he’s getting there he makes such a mess when it’s sloppy food an sometimes it just dribbles out of his mouth poor boy but he does eat the long paste food pate type
Also worried bout his fluid intake
I’ve tried making the gelatin blocks
They are so time consuming an I would appreciate if there was a dry powder type of bone broth that is dog friendly so I could try add it to his food ??
God bless you for having the time an patience it is hard work
    😅
Thankyou an keep on uploading new videos if you can please would be interested on how your dog is going because I stupidly looked on the internet how long they have to live an it says different stuff an basically want to make him love as long as he possibly can so long as he’s not in pain an is getting exercise
Also how much do you exercise your dog an how ?? Thanks x

Thank you for sharing this video. Our dog has the same issue. We’ve been struggling to help her. We will be trying your method. Finger crossed!

Thank you so much for your video. My little girl was diagnosed with ME yesterday, she is 14 years old. Will give this a go with her feeding. Hubby is going to make her a chair.

I have been feeding my retriever meatballs only and holding him upright, the trick has been keeping his chest and head slightly up when laying down and sleeping…this stops any regurgitation and coughing- walking during or after feeding makes a huge difference-washing food down with a gravy before sleep also stops any problems

We now make Pluto wear a doughnut after each meal for about an hour. Makes sure his head is raised slightly once he is out of the chair.

I thought u were supposed to get them to lift the chin up while feeding them to make a straight as pathway as possible? What an odd condition.

Each dog is different. Once you find something that works, stick to it.
