How to build a Bailey Chair (Megaesophagus)

- My friends dog was diagnosed with Megaesophagus which cause a loss of muscle control in the esophagus, which requires the dog to eat in an upright position so that they can swallow their food properly. The solution that people have found is called a Bailey chair. It is a seat for the dog that places them in an upright position so they can eat and drink. As far as I know they are custom built chairs only. I followed a plan from the Kreg Jig website, that I will link below.

That turned out beautiful and Mosley looks very happy sitting in it. Hope it helps him. (BTW, who are the 3 idiots that gave this video a thumbs down!)
My dog buddy has been diagnosed with mega E. We have been feeing him in a londry basket with pillows and have plans to make him a chair. It looks weird and uncomfortable but my dog has gained 8lb and loves to get in now. I would never do this to a dog that did not need this but it is the biggest life saver for dogs with this condition. You chair is beautiful mine will not look as nice but I do have plans for padding. Buddy is older and has arthritis. Thank u for your video!
My 3 months old puppy was just diagnosed with megaesophagus. I gotta find a chair for her here in Brazil or just build one myself. Thank you for the video 😊
Turned out beautifully! Mosley is adorable!
Aw! What a cutie!!! 😍 Hope he feels better!
This turned out so great. Thanks for sharing. Wish i was as talented as you to make this for our megaeso doggie
This video helps me so much!!! Thank you Justin
awesome job! You are a great friend!
Thank you so much for the video; I haven't got all your wonderful tools but I will try the same to build a Bailey chair for my dog, which is very sick (miastenia gravis).

this is so lovely
What a great build and stylish too, your friend is very lucky to have you build this for them. I wish we had a workshop set up like this it's great. Our Boxer has suspected Megaesophagus along with a heap of other problems. Looking to build one of these chairs this weekend, thank you for sharing your video it's going to be a big help for so many people including us.
Did you ever build this? My senior dog has been suffering for a a year going on 2 now. Wants to eat but can’t keep food down most of the time. She’s skin and bones. Vets keep running tests says she’s ok. Says her esophagus should close after she eats but it stays open. Vets suggests there could be something blocking her stomach and suggests seeing a specialist.. story short.. they want 3500 for a ct scan that might not find out what’s actually wrong with her. I’m trying to do this to see if it helps.
Thank you so much
Super, danke Dir für dieses tolle Video. 😘😘😘😘😘😘 Mein Hund hat auch das Problem....Danke, Danke, jetzt wird's hoffentlich dadurch besser.🐕🐕🐕🐕
My 3 month old German shepherd was just diagnosed with it and it’s heartbreaking can I pay you to build me one please don’t want to see my baby pass away
Hello I have a 9 year old schnauzer who has megaesophagus and just found out about bailey chairs. I was wondering if you'd be willing to make one for my dog. I would of course pay you for it. I'm not very handy so I'd have a hard time making on for her. Please let me know if you'd be willing.
Hi I’m in a rush to build this for dog whose extremely skinny and can’t keep food down. At 4:53. What is that? And where’d you get the foam and leather padding? I’d like to build it for my senior dog whose skin and bones at the moment. Anyone can help?
How much are you willing to ship one for because I’m not paying for those tools
i have a boxer with that just now found out please put messerments
I need this! But I can’t build!
Is there a list of materials and measurements or dimensions? Surely this was meant to be an educational video, but I don’t see any kind of explanation or teaching. Besides proving to the world that you’re a decent dog owner, it would be nice to hear an explanation behind the structure of the chair and the materials used.
I've heard good feedback about the Woodglut plans.
