How to give your Megaesophagus Dog, Antepsin. Prescribed drug to help soothe the esophagus.
Pluto demonstrates how to enthusiastically receive Antepsin. He is the ultimate in good dog technology.
Antepsin, sometimes known by other names (sucralfate) is a liquid drug prescribed by a vet. The medication works by creating a coating or barrier over an ulcer, protecting it from stomach acids and allowing it to heal.
As with all drugs, food, and water getting them into the Megaesophagus dog can be a pain. This is how we do it. Hope this helps.

Pluto the Megaesophagus Dog sleeps!
Переглядів 1392 роки тому
Pluto was snoring and twitching in a dream until I put the camera on... Typical but it's still very cute. Sleeping Megaesophagus dogs is a great sign. If the dog is comfy and can sleep I am happy. It normally means he won't be awake at 3am throwing up!! plutomedog

Pluto has a late meal treat. We don't do this often as it has a high probability of me cleaning this up at 3am! If however, Pluto is seemingly doing well with his food and lack of re-gurging, then a 3rd meal is a great treat. Not only does he really enjoy this but it can add that little extra weight we are always trying to get him to gain. plutomedog

Meal preparation to aid Pluto takes a bit of time but is rather simple. This video is a simple step by step prep for both the meatballs and a soft lick-able meal. For the first 6 years Pluto ate meatballs whole. This allowed him to gain weight fast and then maintain a healthy weight. When he was unable to swallow the meatballs we had to change up our methods and find a way that suited him. Gett...
Feeding meatballs to Pluto, the megaesophagus dog!

Gaining weight for your megaesophagus dog is no easy task. They need to be fed in an upright position to allow gravity to take on the chore of the useless esophagus. For 6 years the meatball method worked for Pluto. Swallowing soft whole meatballs allowed him to gain and maintain a good healthy weight. I hope this video helps anyone struggling to find a method that works for their ME dog. Each ...

Is Pluto still kicking ? My dog just got diagnosed and this disease sucks ,she’s had it since a puppy but it’s worse now I’ve been doing the upright feeding and giving her her prescribed Viagra to help open her esophagus more and it seems to be working but it’s only been 1 day since the real diagnosis do u have any other tips that work for Pluto I don’t wanna lose my puppy

Pluto is doing great!! He also had this disease from a puppy and has had a few ups and downs along the way. Patience is needed. It takes trial and error to find what works for each dog. The best advice I can give is to get a Bailey chair asap. Feeding Pluto upright in a chair saved his life. We also leave him in the chair for 15 minutes after eating so the food has time to slide down into the stomach. Again, trial and error. Some dogs need more than others. Also, join a Facebook group or community where there are many different success stories and ways of helping the dog. facebook.com/groups/uprightcaninebrigade Also prescribed Antepsin has worked great for Pluto. It coats the esophagus and helps heal and soothe. I shall upload some more videos soon. Instagram is mainly where I update silly Pluto pics. instagram.com/plutomedog/

Thankyou for sharing my dog has been diagnosed with this a month or so ago an I wasn’t given much advise from the vet which is very sad we pay them an expect them to give good advise I’ve had to research an there isn’t much out there so appreciate you putting the advice an info out there anything helps I will try this I have been teaching him to sit upright on the corner of our sofa (leather one luckily wipable ) an he’s taken to it very quickly But the food has been a hit an miss He used to eat kibble but now can’t chew or lick or swallow as he used to so teaching him to eat slower is an issue but he’s getting there he makes such a mess when it’s sloppy food an sometimes it just dribbles out of his mouth poor boy but he does eat the long paste food pate type Also worried bout his fluid intake I’ve tried making the gelatin blocks They are so time consuming an I would appreciate if there was a dry powder type of bone broth that is dog friendly so I could try add it to his food ?? God bless you for having the time an patience it is hard work 😅 Thankyou an keep on uploading new videos if you can please would be interested on how your dog is going because I stupidly looked on the internet how long they have to live an it says different stuff an basically want to make him love as long as he possibly can so long as he’s not in pain an is getting exercise Also how much do you exercise your dog an how ?? Thanks x

I have been feeding my retriever meatballs only and holding him upright, the trick has been keeping his chest and head slightly up when laying down and sleeping…this stops any regurgitation and coughing- walking during or after feeding makes a huge difference-washing food down with a gravy before sleep also stops any problems

We now make Pluto wear a doughnut after each meal for about an hour. Makes sure his head is raised slightly once he is out of the chair. instagram.com/p/CYqvZ_0IMYz/ Picture of him wearing it.

How did you decide on the size of the bolus?

    • @plutomedog
      @plutomedog 2 роки тому

Size of the meatball? It was trial and error. If it was too large he would eat half of it and spit the other half out. Too small and he wouldn't swallow it correctly and we would more often than not be seeing it again. I guess it depends on the size of the dog. Slightly bigger than a golf ball but smaller than a tennis ball.

Love this! Well done Pluto, flying the flag for Megaesophagus awareness. Your appearance on POGDOG’s is what saved my girls life and finally got us the diagnosis of Megaesophagus. Didn’t know you’d had a bad spell....that’s what makes Mega-E so frustrating, that all of a sudden something that worked well, no longer works! Glad to hear you are back on tip top form again ❤️🐶
