Your use of the word,'dull', to describe the movie sent me into fits of laughter- better and more resolute commentary than alot of arcs presented. A very thoughtful and concise review which is much appreciated.
Yeah Three Billboards has mainstream critical acceptance, but much like American Hustle (or any number of other examples) if you ask any normal person about that movie they reliably tell you it sucks.
I disagree. I appreciate your well delivered and thought out review. But, for me, and based on my experience, I think the way the film deals with isolation and depression is spot on. The bleak and unsatisfying ending is very much on par for a film about depression. I loved the movie, though it was well executed, and will watch again.
Seeing the movie ‘cold’, was surprised how flimsy it all was; stagey acting, cheap-looking sets, tourist-board cinematography, cliched Celtic whimsy (pubs, fiddles, witchcraft and a little donkey, ffs) … and even Farrell’s ludicrous dyed hair. There was an real story in there about mental breakdown in an uncaring culture, but trivialised by the obvious clickbait for critics.
I'm glad you said something because I wasn't terribly impressed with how it was setup either. McDonagh has been making films for a decade now but they still feel so stilted and contrived. I appreciate the comment! Thanks for watching.

McDonaghs work after in bruges has definetly not had mixed reception. Three billboards was a major oscar player as will most likely banshees.
