Darlene was my favorite by far. She was always the most gorgeous girl on the show. There were other beauties but Darlene was my favorite.

I was relieved to learn that she did not end up in adult films, as has happened with other child stars who fell on hard times.
Which ones? I’ve never heard of any who did adult films.
Disney tried to make her THE star of the show but the kids made Annette the star! Her distinctive beauty and warmth enchanted both boys and girls.
My crush back then was Karen Pendleton! She was only 2 years older than me!

I watched the "Mickey Mouse Club" from 'day 1' in 1955, as a 9 year old & loved it! I even met one of the
"Mouseketeers" .i.e. Lonnie, ca. 1993! These young performers, as well as all 'early t.v.' actors, deserved to
get "royalties" from their performances that were broadcast 'ad infinitum'! Some of these "kids" have already
'passed away', but people my age will always remember them as the first "baby boomers" to be the stars, on t.v.!
Being poor and first generation I never liked it I thought it was really hokey
I loved the show! Our neighborhood was always quiet when it came on. Singing & dancing talents, adventures shown from around the world that I never knew about; continuing stories (Corky & White Shadow, Spin & Marty, Harty Boys, to name a few). It showed respect for one another for us to follow. I don't see this in present day for my grandkids to watch Ok, I will stop there. 😊
Darlene was not a minor, petty criminal. At least two Federal charges. On a local shoplifting charge she got three years probation...that isn't minor either. She ran out of cute years ago.
Darlene was wonderful in her Western show "Corky & White Shadow."
I loved her in that role! Seemed perfect for it!😊
When Disney had class and decency

Darlene was always loved! Loved Annette too. This makes it sound like they were in competition. I suspect Darlene’s family life might have troubled Darlene more.
I worked atMidway,airport,in Chicago,often saw Cubby O Brien,he was the drummer,for the Carpenters!

Darlene was always my favourite! As a young boy I had a serious crush on her!
One of the important details not mentioned is how Darlene and her father sabotaged her career with Disney by being too pushy, which was partly behind the promotion of Annette Funicello. These details have been documented in Paul Peterson's book, OF WALT, MICKEY, AND ME. It's apparent that there were issues about Darlene's history since the other Mouseketeers avoided talking about her.

For me,it was annette s dimples that i fell for ,i was about 8yrs old.but yes darlene was a darling.

Back in 1963 I was 9 years old and was quite unfamiliar with television. We moved into a tenement hostel and by word of mouth learned that the family a couple of doors away had a (very small black and white) TV. Kids just invited themselves and sat in front of the TV; about 2 feet away.
On the screen came some program with kids about my age and there was a very pretty girl with the name "Darlene" on her chest (they would call out their names when they were introduced). But I became mesmerised by this girl who was named Annette. She had such a lovely face, hair and eyes and I thought maybe she was about 12 so I was in with a chance.
How was I to know that at that moment she was all kissey kissey with Frankie Avalon?
At 9 years old I was always in the here and now and had no idea about TV repeats. I was just a kid from the bundu.

I knew Sharon Baird years ago. Her parents and mine were great friends, our dads worked together. They lived a couple of blocks away. Sharon last worked, according to IMDB, in 2020.

I Sincerely believe that I was named after Darlene. One thing I know is that the peeps who were 20+ 60 years ago were just as attached to the Mickey Mouse Club then as the 20+ peeps are today attached to The Voice, Dancing With The Stars... Kind of as you said with "the Mickey Mouse Club having more adult fans..."
I never missed an episode. If my girlfriends were visiting we watched it together and sang allll the songs...

Jimmie Dodd and Roy Williams were over-animated hams - and all I knew was, no MAN in my family acted like they did. Talk about light in the loafers!
Jimmie Dodd had been around a while. He was in the movie "Flying Tigers" with John Wayne and other Hollywood notables in 1942. Disney's productions always inspired with high spirits and energy which I'm sure was part of their desire to cultivate a following. I watched many episodes of MMC and only became aware of the kind of conditioning many years later.

It's funny, I heard a lot of Italian--Americans wrote (using non-Italian names) to 'praise' AF. Personally, I never liked AF and preferred DG to her but she wasn't my favorite.

Annette Funicello's (RIP) instant fame was because she had little Hooters showing. Rumors also were whispered that she and Uncle Walt were more than what was considered less than an appropriate relationship between a young teen and an old man! Annettes' talents weren't anything greater than any other of the clubhouse members... it was just over-exposure of her Italian Face and her young curvy body caught the amorous attentions of young impressionable American Boys. Even though I was part of the generation that the Mickey Mouse Club Show was targeting - I found the whole premise idiotic and campy, therefore I never watched it.
Actually she had Personality to back up her Brains. She was a favorite.
