  • MasterLock 175 - How it works and how to bypass with a thin pick.
    I've watched several videos of how to bypass and how to pick these lock. This video won't plow new ground but I tried to make it more detailed about how the lock mechanism, and in particular the "wheels", work so you'll have a better feel for what's going on inside the lock and the best way to work the pick.
    UPDATE: Since I made this video I've changed my opinion on which way to orient the "point" of the pick. In the video I show the "point" at the "top edge" of the pick. After playing around with these locks some more I've been having better success with the point on the bottom edge. So if it's not working for you one way try it the other way. But I was hitting something a lot more when I had it on top then when I had it on bottom so I'd say try it with the point on bottom edge of the pick first.
    Another tidbit, don't know if others have mentioned it but I was wondering why they bothered putting those notches on the side of the wheel since it's really the Flats that let it open at the combination. Turns out that the notches are how they prevent the programming key from being put in and disengaging the wheels from the axle. The wheels cannot be pushed sideways by the tit on the programing key except when those notches are lined up with internal stops. When the notches not lined up the wheels can't move sideways off the axle splines.

    Unreal. I watched the video, found some 0.09" shim stock I had laying around, shaped it to aproximate shape and size with a vice and some files. Within less than 20 seconds the lock was open. Great video. I've never picked a lock in my entire life.

    Thanks so much.Your video helped me to fabricate my "tool" and to pick my Master 175d. After I located the the indentions on the wheels, I added 2 to each number. I was fairly certain that I had located numbers on wheels 2,3 and 4 then I started rotating wheel #1 until to my surprise, my lock popped open! Thankks again!

    I tried this on my dinghy lock and it gave me the same combination numbers I thought it was. So I soaked it in vinegar for a few minutes and it opened right up. Now I'll rinse it off in fresh water and use some WD40 on it. Thanks for the help!

      Yep I agree 100%, I too have watched tons of 175 videos and none actually explained any of it in detail. Thanks so much for the great video!

    You can change the combination without the key if you keep pressing that hole with a tool and align the wheels where you want them.
    Just the combination needs to be set correctly before pushing.

      That's true. The "key" isn't really a key, it's just the equivalent of anything that will fit the hole so you can push the pin sideways. The advantage of the "key" is that because it's got that "flag" on the end you can turn it sideways, and it holds itself in .. otherwise you have to hold your "tool" in by hand.

    1:03 when flat is at that low angle, the notch is aligned so it can open, correct ? Because I kept trying to open it today, keeping my tool in that area and I opened it by MISTAKE (with correct combination aligned) :)))

      How thick is your shim? The one I use is 0.09 inch. Roughly the thickness of two post it notes.

    Fantastic visuals. But you are bypassing the hard way. You should get in shallow above the combs and push down, not in deep and push up. You also need to depress shackle.

      @EristiCat  3 роки тому

      Using my opened up lock so I could see what was going on I took a look at the angles I was using and as best I can tell I'm only going under the shackle, not the comb. I do agree with you, if you did go too deep it would be counter productive.

    I have to pick my Lock and have a key but it won’t turn 90° how can I change the combination

    • @EristiCat
      @EristiCat  3 роки тому +3

      You can't change the combo unless you know the existing combo. That's the reason for the notches. If you don't know the combo you will need to watch a video about how to use the pick to figure out where the flats are. When you have found the flats you can get the combo. The only help I can give is that in my experimenting I was able to find the flats for the 3 right dials but not the left dial. So I just tried all ten numbers for the left dial and got the final number. Same would be true for any single dial that you can't seem to find the flat. If you can find the flats for the other three you can just run thru the 10 positions for the last dial.
