I have zero plans to buy this game because of the simple fact that ubisoft still hasn't learned their lesson on making games that people want to play and not being a scummy company. They aren't the only AAA studio like this and I treat others the same way but the gamer community as a whole needs to stop preordering games and "its assassin's creed I was gonna buy it anyway" is also a part of the problem: you guys keep rewarding companies for shitty decisions without even giving the games a chance to release fully and get reviews out. I understand its a little different for content creators because your reviews help sway opinions a bit so you have to get in as early as possible but always buying games just because its the next one in a franchise annual or not regardless of quality is exactly why I'm happy there's so much controversy around games like COD and the annual sports games are under so much fire for their gacha but worse systems and rosters being the only changes between releases. Granted I make it a point to only get them to buy it or gift it when its on a massive sale and I mostly play it solo these days but I'm still having fun with it in 2025 and that says something. Being a pissed off Ghost Recon fan aside Game studios and publishers will not be better if people just keep buying the garbage on name alone regardless of quality and if they have no competition. You're supposed to have fun playing video games, that is the bottom line, and shitty practices is making that harder to do as time goes on.
What I heard was “why would I want to play an armoured unit in an AC game?” And that Yasuke might be too strong. But I also heard from someone else that two to three hits might be too punishing, so they preferred fighting big enemies and groups of enemies with Yasuke. Personally I’ll do combat with Yasuke because lately I’ve been getting into Elden ring and stellar blade. I want my attacks to feel heavy. But my majority will be with Noe
From some reviews I've seen, while the majority of the people prefer to spend most of the time with Naoe, the fact that the combat is actually somewhat fun and engaging, had people saying that Yasuke was pretty fun for fighting enemies, be it in a 1v1 or a group fight
14:28 It's not just the voice acting, but the writing. 'Do you remember that smell? When Lord Hideie was taken?' "Yes, I do remember that smell, I'm hoping it will lead us to Lord Hideie" Bro who wrote this? ChatGPT?
in Japanese culture it is normal for you to refer to those above you in power or position by name and title at all times. its a sign of respect just like we say Mr or Mrs
@peanutpuppyboiprayforukrai1072 oftentimes, in Japan, especially in political situations, people did speak in quite a monotone voice. However, I do agree that the delivery of the voice lines could've been better, the writing too. They don't seem human, they speak too perfectly. This wasn't an issue in the AC games before Odyssey.
I just want the parkour from Unity back. It oozed style (when it worked). It looks stylishly rigid here. Hard to get into a flow state when your trained assassin hesitates at every edge
“Because Yasuke is not a s.. neaky fella” made me laugh :’) glad to hear you reckon the future of the series is looking optimistic! Thanks for answering our questions! ✨
The shadow mechanic sounds really cool but i really wish it was convincingly dark in-game. I think of the original Splinter Cell trilogy where you could barely make out Sam if it wasnt for his goggless.

Imo they made a combat centered character and a stealth one to please both the og ac fans and the ones who liked the rpg era. Personally i think its a good decision
@Idk-kg8ec I like that perspective. Especially compared to the half-commitment they made with that same idea in Syndicate, with only a couple of perks distinguishing playstyles.
@@jingleballs9935 if they could deliver that would work but I guess they don't want to risk it especially since they're not doing too well as a company right now
We've had AC protagonists that were big, brutal monsters in direct combat yet also great at stealth action. I don't understand the need for splitting that up here...especially when each is objectively incapable of doing certain things, so you're ultimately forced to play both regardless, making any notion of "variety" moot. Could've just had one person with an actual skill tree or something?
@@natchu96 Or even simply tied it to armour. Heavy armour means less climbing and smashing through doors, light armour means parkour and dodging but is more glass cannon.
My biggest issue with Ubisoft games these days is how it feels like when youve played one, youve planed nearly all That and ive sworn them off ever since the whole Quartz fiasco but thats an entirely different issue altogether
This is why I don't tend to play them unless there's something interesting going on. I played the first AC and contrary literally everyone else apparently I found the Desmond story bits more interesting than Altair's (what can I say, abduction by a tech company for an unknown purpose was more interesting than "kill Templars because our order decrees it". I skipped Ezio completely (blasphemy, I know) because the Renaissance wasn't interesting to me (I'm British. I learnt about it several times over my compulsory education) and it didn't add anything that drew me back in. Came back for AC3 because for British person the American Revolution was novel and undertaught in schools compared the rest of the story of our empire, the ship stuff was cool, guns were a thing and the story (both ancestor and Desmond) was engaging, especially the hook of making you play as Kenway only to reveal you were playing as a Templar and the main villain. Played Black Flag because it's the best single player pirate game despite having Assassin's Creed stuff attached to it and the present day game dev stuff was an interesting way to deliver story, had the investigative stuff I liked Desmond's AC1 sections and was metacontextually as Abstergo Entertainment was obvious a self insert for Ubisoft itself. Ignored everything in the loot RPG era because live service looter shooter BS and floating health bars with enemy levels had no business in this franchise. Which is sad because Vahalla actually takes places near where I live meaning I get to miss out on the only time I get to explore a historical version of a place I live because Ubisoft decided to let corporate design the gameplay loop. Skipped Mirage or whatever the last one was because I cared little for the setting or the nostalgia pandering. Shadows looks interesting assuming there isn't any loot grind BS and Ubisoft slims down the open world activity padding. Seriously, you don't realise how padded out open world games are until you replay AC Black Flag or Far Cry 2 and the side activities are actually enjoyable and not there just so marketing can say it takes 80 hours to complete.
@@Lukanosos To be fair: Ubisoft automatically refunded everyone who preordered the game after things got bad. It’s still good advice, but one of the first cases where a company put consumer’s first in regards to that.
Don't bother trying to warn them. These r*tards just don't get it. They think we're telling them not to buy the game. That's not what we're saying. We're specifically saying not to pre-order because that is how we end up with so many unfinished games at launch. But they just don't see what the core of the message is. They just see it as another hater. And not someone that's hopefully one day wishing for a better games industry. But they don't understand that the preorder mentality is a big reason the AAA space is where it currently is. Don't waste your breath on them anymore. Let them be the beta testers.
I honestly think Yasuke shouldn't have been in this game. He's just not that fun for an Assassin's Creed game. Focusing on Naoe, an original character, would've been much better, since she can also fight, and has all the Assassin's Creed fun of a ninja. I enjoyed AC Valhalla, but only because I saw it as a Viking game, and not an Assassin's Creed game (aside from the story). But AC shadows feel much more like an AC game. So as fun as it is to be a samurai, Yasuke's gameplay feels almost too combat-focused.
Origins is still about Assassins. It’s the origin of the Brotherhood. IDK why people bring that game up as an example of not playing as an Assassin when there’s a very clear narrative reason for it.
The game LOOKS really cool, the problem with Ubisoft is that the games always LOOK cool until you realize it's just hours upon hours of the same repetitive mediocre tasks over and over again.
The Yauske Templar and Naoe Assassin relationship sounds super interesting and could be like Arno and Elise but good. Also thanks for answering my question about combat on twitter.
I was going to buy this either way now that it's on steam. Plus they took some ideas from Syndicate which is one of my Favorite AC Games then hell yeah I will buy this one.
Why do you think you're first to notice Yasuke starting as a bad guy? He's literally seen working for Oda Nobunaga and burning down Naoe's village in the trailers, and Nobunaga is a Templar, whether that be intentional or as a puppet.
I will not preorder this one. But I will definitely get it when it goes on a sale at some point. And will (at least from what I've seen so far) be playing almost exclusively as Naoe.
I'll be getting it on sale too, though even with the deep sales, it'll probably be at least $40 because of all the cut content they'll add as DLC. However, I am excited to play as both. The idea of being this huge samurai is just so appealing to me. I'm also not a fan of stealth stuff in general, but I would like to see how the stealth plays out, and the different experience of playing one over the other.
@@Simp_Supreme personally I don't think so. Hearing combat also being better for Naoe doesn't really help in Yasuke's case. It's clear that the team is having a hard time getting this game out. Development sounds like hell. Having another character with a vastly different play style is splitting the focus for the team and they can't concentrate on making a game for two very different characters. Making a mission that's fun for two different play styles is very tricky. And boy it's already showing that focus is split. Side ejects aren't in again and that front flip looks so bad. They are already taking out good things that were in mirage. If they take out the notoriety system, I ain't gonna play this game until it's like $20. And that's gonna be years from now
Should have had Yasuke focus more on social stealth, with his obvious different skin color being the tip off that something is amiss. Like have him infiltrate daimyo entourages and slowly work his way to a target, while purposefully staying in denser groups of people and in deeper shadows to conceal himself, while Naoe trails along the rooftops
@15:35 *POTENTIAL SPOILERS* - - - You might be on to something, i was looking up Alessandro Valignano (The Jesuit who was with Yasuke during Kuroda Kanbei scene) is a templar.
Playing Ghost of Tsushima now as I didn't finish it before. I'm looking forward to this game next. Hopefully it can feel more like the older Assassin's Creeed games, and have missions that feel immersive.
I’ve noticed something that can kind of fix the clunky feel of combat. I think it comes from the drag of Yasukes as well as enemy attacks. Naoe is already pretty fast with everything she does so she is fine, but for Yasukes and every enemies attacks, they need to be sped up a-bit more. I’ve tried to simulate this by watching multiple combat videos at 1.25 speed and it looks more fluid. Except for Naoe, she’s too fast at that speed. I honestly think this can really help that clunky feel. Enemies feel/look so much better, even just their regular and especially their flurry attacks, actually feel fluid and will feel satisfying to continuously parry. UBI seemed to intentionally slow things down to make it really easy to perfect block/parry but that hurts the fluidity and satisfaction of it more. Add the slow mo effect when you do so and it all just seems off. All attacks and blocks for both Yasuke and every enemy needs to be sped up. Try and watch especially Yasukes combat and ignore the high speed of everything else except Yasukes and enemies attacks, blocks, parry’s and counters. It’s almost as though that should be the default speed.
Just don’t get why they made 2 protagonists. Feels like it wastes resources on making just 1 + less story depth. The ninja gameplay looks just so much better, more fun, and more assassins creed than the big warrior.
@@natchu96 Well maybe you should work at Ubisoft then, it can only get better. Seriously, look at the covers for Syndicate, Odyssey, Valhalla, which are all supposed to have equally important female and male characters and tell me what you see. Or I can just tell you: On the box art for Syndicate, Jacob sits front and center with Evie shunted off to the side with no indication that she's even a playable character. And on those for Odyssey and Valhalla, the female versions of the character (which are the canonical one in BOTH cases btw) aren't even there at all. There's no question why this is the case and it's absolutely pathetic. I suppose Shadows is a step up in that Naoe is actually on the box and even depicted in front of Yasuke. And just to be completely clear, I'm criticizing Ubisoft here, not you.
This is the first time since Origins that I've felt genuinely excited for an Assassin's Creed game instead of just cautiously optimistic. I don't expect Shadows to be exactly what I want out of AC, but to this day I still think only the first 3 games fully captured what I wanted out of them, and that doesn't diminish my love for many that came later - heck, AC4 is in my top 3 if not top 2, and that game was missing a lot of things that made me love the series to begin with. These stealth mechanics and some of the new systems with regards to seasons and weather impacting gameplay look like clear advancements for the series as opposed to new elements that would be better suited to a different IP, and I am sold on the aesthetic and tone that I've seen and heard about so far (seems more grounded, which I like). The only thing that remains to be seen is whether Shadows can stick the landing with a reasonably compelling, reasonably well-acted story that captures the themes of freedom vs. control and the elements of conspiracy that define the series, and from the little bits that have been made public I'm optimistic!
Glad to know that the modern day story is engaging. I lost interest in it when you don't really play in the modern world. Origins felt disconnected because we're just suddenly thrust into this character Layla.
I'm still just cautiously optimistic about this game, I really want it to be good, but I feel like Ubisoft is trying to please RPG fans and classic fans at the same time and leaving neither of them completely satisfied. The combat doesn't look great imo just based on how much health the enemies seem to have.
Dude u nailed it, i watched 15 reviews ftill now, and you hit it well in to the point! All major reviwers are so shallow compred to your presentation! Thumbs up for the chanell.
From what I've seen the previews "met the bar" of Tsushima in terms of a stunning/gorgeous world, and stealth. I don't believe they mastered the combat and I don't have a whole lotta faith they'll do better than Tsushima's narrative. That is based on the fact that instead of focusing on two characters, they divided their attention. Once again leaving fans to question why Yasuke is in the game to begin with. The same issues that plagued Odyssey and Valhalla. Openly saying the game's combat is more akin to Valhalla is just a huge turn-off.
Y'know, it's funny, the reasons you list why you like Yasuke less for combat are the reasons I feel I will like him a lot. I wamt him to feel like this unstoppable juggernaut. Like Connor.
omg... I've been hopefully optimistic from what they've shown off but Ubisoft Quebec has consistently been good at taking elements and mechanics made for previous entries and making them more engaging and rewarding to use. From what you're saying it's just about everything I've been hoping for.
Syndicate came first before GOT, and the grappling hook from tsushima is limited as fuck, in shadows you can use it as long as theres an object above naoe to hook on to
I think that for Assassin's Creed to truly improve from what it has been for the last 7 years, Ubisoft needs to create a completely new engine and make social stealth and parkour the primary gameplay focus. Also they need to cut the play time in half and have a more focused and concise narrative and also stop creative huge empty open worlds. Assassin's Creed needs to go back to being the "assassin fantasy" which was what made the series popular in the first place.
Awww man. I WISH I was more into this era! The game looks SO pretty, but like Read Dead before it, I just can't. I'll get sleepy. Welp, back to Black Flag for me.
I havent been this hyped for an AC game since origins. Ive been wanting a feudal japanese setting for a decade. The only thing that would make this perfect now is if theres a Japanese voice setting.
There is a Japanese voice setting called “immersion mode” where characters will all speak in their canon language. So I believe it means Yasuke still speaks English
im glad you immediately put your cards on the table with your bias about AC and open world games because it simply colors this preview that youll accept the flaws no matter .
That's really cool they made him not as nimble. Idk, idk why people are so upset at this game. I think it's gonna be fun. Yeah I'm gonna be getting this game.
You say the constant flips are a good thing but I cant help but notice how at 1:58 she does a front flip off that very small ledge and then does another one all within the elevation change of a couple feet. That's the kinda flips that breaks my immersion. I wish she would do it less and at areas where it would make sense realistically, as that would make these flips not wear out their welcome so quickly and add a small flair to the gameplay. Way too frequent in my mind, plus it gives the appearance of slowing down which exacerbates the stop and go feeling parkour.
At 10:30 i suppose you mean some other guards because those two were not facing each other at all. In fact they were facing the wall. Also that is barebones stealth mechanics present in games more than 20 years old. Are we forgetting all stealth games that came before this one?
Been waiting for Japan since I beat the first game in 2007! As always ubisoft delivers a beautiful world... even if they miss on some of the other aspects
I'll definitely be waiting for a BIG % off to buy this game. Ubisoft has fucked up way too many times for me to turn a blind eye now and pay full price for something that doesn't look very appealing
A very informative video, well-done too. But the music is obnoxious, irritating and inappropriate for the subject matter. I've been an audio/video editor for 28 years and wanted to point out that choosing music that fits the video is critically important - most people do not realize how much the wrong music can hurt - or help - the video.
As an Egyptian, I am admittedly biased towards Origins and believe that the Pharaoh's curse has already struck Ubisoft, hindering their ability to produce future installments of the series that could surpass Origins, despite a few features in Odyssey that were built on top of Origins. I suggest that Ubisoft should bring back Ashraf Ismail at any cost, as he is the best director to have worked on this series and the only one capable of saving this franchise and, consequently, the entire company from sinking, eventually leading to bankruptcy and being sold to Tencent.
I am really excited about Assassin's Creed Shadows! Why? It looks like a lot of fun. Ever since I played my first AC game, Assassin's Creed Black Flag, I’ve been hooked on the series since. This is the first Assassin's Creed game I’ve decided to pre-order, and I can't wait for its release!
Ty for your on the ground reporting on this game. I think the combat looks so clunky and the power scaling (hp bar go brrrr) makes me feel so turned off abt this game. The stealth and level design looks cool af tho.
This looks like something that might be good to play for 8 or 15 hours, but go for ~80. There's potential, but after Valhalla "fixed" Odyssey's gameplay I'm not sure the improvements are going to be fun for the entire game. Maybe Yasuke could be more fun to play if striking enemies in a specific rhythm created a specific set of attacks that are more useful against different enemies and strategies? I think the key would be to lean on the idea of Precision, asking the Player to get into the groove of fighting while Enemies are consistently trying to interrupt that groove, making a combat system that feels like walking along a thin wire but rewards managing to continue forward on that wire. In lieu of that, something like Sekiro with a rhythm of Attacks and Parries (maybe the Ninja lady can't break an enemy's defense like Yasuke, making the big Samurai inherently better at a dance of combat?)
@@4everhumbl36 wouldnt it make more sense in a game like this to represent health as how long they could block your attacks rather then them being able to take 15slashes? Would definitely look more visually pleasing
@@4everhumbl36 If that was a boss fight, sure. It looks like it's just one of the standard grunts, which should fall after 3-5 hits or even less. Add to it the fact that everything has a level and ridiculous damage numbers that go into thousands - not my cup of tea.
All they had to do was just make the damn ninja game. It’s literally Japan, the hot bed of ninja, y not make a ninja org with different ninjas that have different specializations? A range ninja. A super sneaky ninja. A close combat ninja. A deception ninja. A magic ? ninja.
ngl, just in terms of the town and cities. I already prefer this much more then Tsushima. This is what i've expected from the very beginning, since for me the only redeeming quality for Ubisoft atleast for their AC series have always been their top notch world building.

They're not going anywhere. Its going to stay Ubisoft or become Ubisoft thats owned by Tencent. This publisher's name isnt going anywhere. @grumblingdev
Ubisoft should finally bury the Assassins Creed franchise. They should just pick an unexlored period in history, make a beautiful world to explore out of it and write a fitting story. Just stop with this hamfisted assassins vs. templars theme and especially the modern story. It's just absolute cringe at this point and seriously holds back the narrative potential for their games.
Naoe's running speed reminds me of Aveline's from AC Liberation, whose running animation looks/seems faster compared to Connor / Edward despite sharing a lot of animations with them
Update after watching all the way 9:44 yes this is exactly what I’m meaning btw. I don’t play an ac game to play as a hulking samurai. I play to be an ASSASSIN…… EVERYONE that got to do this preview says playing as naoe is so much better then yasuke…. Ubisoft couldn’t just let us only play as an actual assassin so they forced this yasuke guy into this narrative to appeal to the market that wants to play a non ac character. I don’t understand why they are doing this though instead of just refining and improving gameplay for naoe. They try to please and appeal to every market possible and in the end they don’t get naoe as good as she could feel to play and yasuke is a big dumb brute character that doesn’t feel good to play either. I HATE EVERYTHING THAT UBISOFT CHOOSES TO BE.
They did it because they're afraid of making a game with just a female protagonist. And it's because their fan base is made up of angry little virgins that have a hard time playing as the opposite sex. Don't believe me? Read the comments on some of these preview videos that have been uploaded over the last couple days.
To be fair. While ubi sucks in general, and the controversy is entirely on them... The game interests me more than the rpg trilogy. Because of the parkour and stealth, mainly. So maybe I'll give it a try at some point. Definitely won't buy it, I've already lost one account to ubi anticonsumer policies. Maybe a subscription.
first of all GoT isn't the first game ever to use a grappling hook secondly GoT took Niohs stances gameplay where is the crying about that? let me guess you probably didn't know what I'm trying to say is developers constantly take elements from other games So we shouldn't complain about one thing yet ignore a similar case in another game completely
Yasuke might be a templer, but something he 100% is, is a christian because the monks who owned him obviously converted him. That is a lot more logical and likely more correct reason hey he has a cross on his armor.
From what i've seen so far, i think the game would separate itself from Ghost of Tsushima really well if it doesnt have any playable samurai. Naoe seems to play very differently from jin (at least in term of weapon and animation). But i get that they wanted to apeal to everyone
Thank you for sharing your thoughts, Aqua. Regardless of how one feels about certain topics surrounding this game, the game is releasing, and it's nice to hear just what the game offers.
when watching the trailer i though you could play both characters simultaneously like you could fight some guards with yasuke and make a distraction while you stealth your way through the level with the asasin character.
Thanks for review. I personally loved the older games and only find the newer ones okay. I wanted to know what someone with a similar opinion thought of it, instead of purists who only like one or the other. There's a lot I'd like to say about modern ubisoft, the game industry and this game but I try to avoid discussion about this game online cos it tends to draw in the klanners

We've had AC protagonists that were big, brutal monsters in direct combat yet also great at stealth action. My biggest issue with Ubisoft games these days is how it feels like when youve played one, youve planed nearly all
That and ive sworn them off ever since the whole Quartz fiasco but thats an entirely different issue altogether
Hahhahahha… same for Call of Duty , once you have played one you have played them all
This is why I don't tend to play them unless there's something interesting going on.

My favorite part so far is Naoe's face during cutscenes.
She got that Ozempic stare.
Origins is still about Assassins.
It’s the origin of the Brotherhood.
IDK why people bring that game up as an example of not playing as an Assassin when there’s a very clear narrative reason for it.

Why do you think you're first to notice Yasuke starting as a bad guy? He's literally seen working for Oda Nobunaga and burning down Naoe's village in the trailers, and Nobunaga is a Templar, whether that be intentional or as a puppet.

Na, I prefer to play as a big black man, so much hot and powerful❤

And on those for Odyssey and Valhalla, the female versions of the character (which are the canonical one in BOTH cases btw) aren't even there at all.

There's a lot I'd like to say about modern ubisoft, the game industry and this game but I try to avoid discussion about this game online cos it tends to draw in the klanners
Only way I'm playing this is via piracy or buying via grey market.
Of course. But that's because you're broke, not because of the quality of the game. You would have pirated it regardless, don't kid yourself.
