I went to do the bleeding procedure on bmw n20 motor with the coolant expansion tank top off like you did and the coolant started rapidly spraying out from the little hose, can you help me out with any ideas why this is happening thanks
That's normal operation of the electric water pump. when the heat is on or if u perform the coolant bleed procedure. the pump circulates coolant through the cooling system and it returns back to the expansion tank via the small coolant vent hose.
Do you think cleaning the dried up coolent on the tank and the sensor would fix the coolent and replacing the radiator cap would do the trick on this repair versus replacing the entire tank?
I had the same exact issue on my F30, replaced the tank and connector but unfortunately I still have the coolant error, I noticed that the whole wire is corroded, what does that wire connect to? I think I need to replace the whole wiring for the sensor 😭
@@shadiomar4193 On this on I installed the aftermarket expansion tank. I think that’s the issue because the ck message comes up in the mornings then goes away. So we’re probably going to end up putting in a factory expansion tank from BMW.
Hi, I bought an expansion tank to replace but the new one has plastic connectors on the bottom of the new float connection. Is this normal or should they be metal?
@@koolfredsbimmertech5617 Thanks for the reply & I verified its plastic prongs on bottom of float. Weird but didnt give me any light on the dash. Thanks again 👍
I replaced mine and everything runs fine and doesn't say coolant level is low BUT now it threw code U019F - Lost communication w/ engine coolant pump control. Any thoughts on How to fix this?
@@shawnconnolly6572 never came across that problem. May be a temporary bus communication fault. You can try to disconnect the battery for a few min reconnect and see if it will clear.
Hey I have the 428i 2014. I changed the cam shaft sensor harness. The first harness on the on the ecu and all my these code are on now that was not before I changed is and it will not start now. Do u have some advice.
@@eduardocoello1909 I’m starting to believe the aftermarket ones have issues with the level sensor. It’s still an occasional problem on the car I worked on. We’re probably going back with a factory one from the dealer.
@koolfredsbimmertech5617 thank you, but is it plug and play? Or do i have to clear a code? I have a scanner and do not get any code because of low coolant, only on the dashboard of the bmw.. I changed mine today and still got the wrong reading :/
Fred i have a 4 series i replaced ac expantion valve i replaced the condenssor because it had a hole in it i replaced the ac switch why in ur opinion is my ac not letting me fill to proper freon level..it shoots it out the compressor relief valve..i even put in brand new compressor still does same thing any idea
replaced the tank because the float in the tank was bad but when i put coolant the engine light came on now it’s saying the coolant temperature sensor is reading invalid data

In many cases the coolant is leaking from the sensor pin where the connector goes. The complete expansion tank has to be replaced in that case.

I have 5 series 2012 have coolant warning low but it’s full should I just change the level sensor or the whole coolant resviour?
It’s apart of the expansion tank. I have to change the whole thing.

Check all of the plug connections to make sure they’re locked in good at the engine computer. Make sure all off the ground wire are tight also.

coolant leaks right out of my 428i immediately when filling it up, it started as a slow leak now it doesnt hold, is this a radiator issue or pipes?
I would recommend having the system pressure tested to determine the leak.

Ck to see if it’s corrosion around the connector.

Yep! Same engine!
new tank came with a sensor and i also bought one before i bought the tank neither of them are reading right
