I did this job this last weekend. A lot of the wiggling the first pipe out can be done easier from under the car. You can reach through the wheel well and through the space by the cat converter.
What size are the bolts on the cooler?
@@ThePullUpKing T30 on the earlier years
@koolfredsbimmertech5617 The one covering the oil filter housing. I figured it out tho. It's 3 E8 torx bolts. Thanks for the reply. Good video.
You a cool cat fred
Even if you have a warranty with these cars I wouldn't recommend, just had the same problem lucky I had a warranty, car dont have enough miles to be having that problem
I'm going well. Thank you for your hard work ^^!
I'm performing this exact job on my X3, any tips on removing the intake manifold? I removed the screws and everything but it wont come out. Also, how much did you torque the oil housing screws and the the screws of the upper radiator hose inlet? Thanks!
oil filter housing & coolant outlet bolts are 8Nm. there 5 bolts in intake and 2 support screws E10. there are some coolant hose and brakes to watch out for. May have to jiggle the intake a bit to get it to come out .
@koolfredsbimmertech5617 Was finally able to get it out. The back part towards driving compartment wouldn't come out. Unscrewed a hose in the back and used angled pry bar and pliers to help. The visual you provided in the video of the inderside of the manifold was enormous help, realized I need to disconnect some of the hoses underneath too. Thanks a ton!
@@koolfredsbimmertech5617 By the way, I found oil cooler and the upper radiator hose flange that you changed in these videos made out of aluminum and much cheaper on Amazon. Oil cooler was like $75 and the flange $20 when you include the Permatex RTV. They will never break, and if I ever have to replace something it is the gaskets which are only $20.
Oh my gosh, I wish the down arrow had a counter like the old days…. This video is a total waste
To much no need info just work

@koolfredsbimmertech5617 My bad but good job
True that some do want all info
How's the car doing? I am thinking of picking up an E70 with the N55. I have an E38 740i, did the timing chain guides, suspensio etc myself, so I am mechanically able to fix this car. I just don't want to have to dump thousands into the motor.
@@PlymitBoy The E70 X5 is still rolling. The N55 is the best engine option in the E70.
@@koolfredsbimmertech5617have you done the oil filter housing gasket? I’m seeing possible rod bearing failure after doing this if the engine is not primed correctly?
@@PlymitBoy I’ve seen maybe 2 of those at my shop. A N54 & N55. To prevent- best practice is to pour oil in the oil filter housing before housing the filter cap on. Around 1/2 qt
@@koolfredsbimmertech5617 got it, I always prime any oil filter. The BMW filters are especially easy to prime considering they follow the path of gravity. Thanks for the reply!

How many miles does this particular X3 have? I have a 19 X3 with 71k miles and I’ll be doing this at about 80k. Also did you have to move the transmission cooler out of the way or were you able to get to the lower bolts without removing it? Great video!

@@eduardocoello1909 I’m starting to believe the aftermarket ones have issues with the level sensor. It’s still an occasional problem on the car I worked on. We’re probably going back with a factory one from the dealer.
@koolfredsbimmertech5617 thank you, but is it plug and play? Or do i have to clear a code? I have a scanner and do not get any code because of low coolant, only on the dashboard of the bmw.. I changed mine today and still got the wrong reading :/
@@eduardocoello1909 it’s plug and play. The aftermarket and seam to have intermittent issues setting off the low coolant ck message falsely.

@@MrElect0 Yes it is! Just have to inspect it regularly and ck for leaks and fix them.
Wow 2022 with 31K and already leaking. Ever have the coolant level indicator pop off and float around in the reservoir? What causes that the pressure? Or a flimsy connection?.
@@OscarCastillo1 This one was leaking from the plastic plug on the bottom of the pump.

@@YUA-cam17 No Problem!
Had the same issue on my 19 X3 at 65k miles after a road trip. I was able to replace it without any issues in my garage. Now my water pump has the slightest leak from the plastic actuated component. Love this car but it is plagued with coolant leak issues!!
@@RKSAINT Wow I discovered mine at 66k miles. So true about the coolant leak issues, I had to replace my upper radiator hose a few months ago as well because it was leaking. I feel like I definitely need to check my water pump as well now because my AC has been acting up

I replaced mine and everything runs fine and doesn't say coolant level is low BUT now it threw code U019F - Lost communication w/ engine coolant pump control. Any thoughts on How to fix this?
@@shawnconnolly6572 never came across that problem. May be a temporary bus communication fault. You can try to disconnect the battery for a few min reconnect and see if it will clear.
I had the same exact issue on my F30, replaced the tank and connector but unfortunately I still have the coolant error, I noticed that the whole wire is corroded, what does that wire connect to? I think I need to replace the whole wiring for the sensor 😭
@@shadiomar4193 On this on I installed the aftermarket expansion tank. I think that’s the issue because the ck message comes up in the mornings then goes away. So we’re probably going to end up putting in a factory expansion tank from BMW.
What miles do these fail?
@@mchaudry9811 It depends it can be 35k or 80k for the water pump. Oil filter housing is hit or miss. From what I see the oil filter housing happens over time when there are other coolant leaks. Engine is slightly overheated then melts or deforms the plastic housing.
