District 9 4K HDR | Ending Scene 2160p 10bit HDR True HD 7.1 Atmos
Technically brilliant and emotionally wrenching, District 9 has action, imagination, and all the elements of a thoroughly entertaining science-fiction classic.
In 1982, a massive star ship bearing a bedraggled alien population, nicknamed "The Prawns," appeared over Johannesburg, South Africa. Twenty-eight years later, the initial welcome by the human population has faded. The refugee camp where the aliens were located has deteriorated into a militarized ghetto called District 9, where they are confined and exploited in squalor. In 2010, the munitions corporation, Multi-National United, is contracted to forcibly evict the population with operative Wikus van der Merwe in charge. In this operation, Wikus is exposed to a strange alien chemical and must rely on the help of his only two new 'Prawn' friends

I tear up every time I see him making that flower. So depressing. One of my favorite sci-fi films of all time.
Arguably the greatest sci-fi movie ever made!
This movie is one of the (if not the best) 4k remasters around. Most transfers seem to always change the color grading and tone of the film, like adding filters etc. while here they preserved the original movie and just improved the colors, contrast and detail. wish all transfers were like this!
A bit of technical trivia, media shot on actual film remasters to 4k much better than media shot in whatever the max resolution of digital was at the time. So a movie shot in early 2000s in digital will not look as good as remastered filmstock because the 720 or 1080 resolution is what the film was coded as and can't be upscaled to a higher resolution while the physical filmstock itself is digitally converted to 4k from scanning. Thats why 4k remaster of old movies and obscure tv shows look much better than some remastered digital masters of bigger name movies. District 9 was shot in 4k, thats why it looks so good now.
Tell me about it! I can't stand how so many old sci-fi movies are given the Matrix green cast with the 4k transfer. I don't get it. Why is the future green?

I hate that people are asking for a sequel. This was a movie about empathy and self-sacrifice. It's not meant to have a happy ending. Life requires sacrifice.
I think it comes down to "good deed has to be rewarded" mentality that we learn from young age from fairy tales- and people cannot live without this ending "definitively"- one way or the other. Either he gets healed, or dies, but his torment is finished. I'm not advocating it, or stand for it- just kinda think that is, what is behind all those people asking for "ending"
And they also cannot understand that this ending gives you ability to think whatever you might want. The "have a cake and eat it" kind of deal- Christopher is "a prawn of his word" as we could see- so those who wish for happy ending might have it- he is very likely to return for Vicus. Those who wish for bittersweet sacrifice, that will never be repaid may also see that as most likely.
I like this ending because it is about finally standing for something bigger than oneself, overcoming one's cowardice and limitations, and about sacrifice for somebody else- truly knightly values right there
I don't need anything else from this movie Sequels, prequels, whole universes made out of this will only cheapen and leave bad taste afterwards

@@flathead3233 It's an intresting one, the "Deservedness" of the durance as it's the praxis of the story.
Fundimentally D9 is the story of a Nazi turning into the minority he persicuted. The alienness of the prawn physiology and the grusome nature of the transfiguration into an athropod allow us to empathize more with wikus' viewpoint, such a shift poses a "Body horror" element atop the "personal horror" and "social horror" of what is happening to him this suffering is ultimately a positive character arc as wikus reassess's his empathy and embraces compassion he never had as a full human.
When you scrutinize it, it speaks to an extent our own personal prejudices. Is begin a prawn the worst thing ever?
It works so well because of it's allegorical nature and it allows us to freely entertain the idea of "yeah kinda I don't wanna be a bug", If we were to take away the allegory it becomes honestly abit painful to scrutinize, A white man turning into a black man, Or a man Turning into a woman.
Would either of those be the worst fate ever? I think if it were more on the nose it would induce a reactionary responce from indivduals who's cognitive dissonance would prevent them from seeing their own prejudices.

@@TrenchMan93 Oh I know he wasn't terrible. Sorry if my comment made that really convoluted, I more meant that the interviews portrayed him as a terrible person. A majority of his coworkers had already written him off as guilty and vilified him as a result.
It was indeed a very good and realistic film. The aliens that humanity has always looked for can be something undesirable and quite dangerous. I'd rather none of them make it this far.
This movie is just amazing. It manages to make you feel remorse for both parties, as you see him turn into one of the aliens. When I saw the aliens right at the start of the movie, they really freaked me out and they were seen as the villains then, but the movie just turned them into the protagonists as you saw what the humans were doing to them. This changes you from thinking the aliens are disgusting, weird creatures to viewing them as living things with real emotion. Amazing!
Humans being humans
When are they going to make a sequel?!?!?!? This movie was awesome!
The classic villain talking to much giving time for the hero to be saved.
He wanted to take him into custody I think
@@HITBnn I would have been extremely careful not to be infected by a pathogen after seeing how it can transform you into one of them.
this movie has something special about it.
i need to rewatch it
One of the best films in cinema history. Citizen Kane, The Tree of Life, WALL-E, and District 9. The value of this film will be recognized in years to come.
i cried alot watching this movie
i expect this is how reality would be
i VOTE FOR THE PRONS \\\O/
IM SO GLAD THEY ESCAPED ♥
My headcanon is that the assistant went on to eventually spread the word on what really happened and what was going on, thus clearing Wikus's name. Even as little as it means anymore.
This movie made me so nervous and nauseous when i was kid. Lol. This part of him becoming the alien.
Seeing as in interviews its said the majority of prawns were worker drones without a queen, they may have seen Wickis as a queen and went to his protection
This movie is so horribly underrated. One of my favorite movies of all time.
Wish they would make district 10 ...they already mentioned it had 2.5 million aliens and growing
I need closure 🤣
Seriously still one of the best movies ever made. District 10 is in the works, and it will be so much fun to see how the story continues. I'm thinking a 2025 or 2026 release since the writers strike is still ongoing.
masterpiece movie
Im curious how District 10 would play out. Maybe at one point the Prawn gains "human rights" due to a certain prawn who knows english
I just watched it today literally one of the best sci fic I've seen this year. The ending made me tear up I hope Chris will do his promise to Wikus. I still want him to go back to human he deserves better.
I thought this was way better then avatar. This movie hit me like a ton of bricks.
The flower part always sticks with me because without even thinking I made a flower out of a Ferrero Roche wrapper and gave it to my mom and she kept it and said it reminded her when the District 9 alien made the flower
Most underated movie ever...
I remember watching this when I was a kid
The ending reveals how advanced the prawns were when he plotted the ships course before take off
what I would give to have a district 10 movie 😭
Mercenary Leader : “You can’t beat me, Vikus! I’m wearing a Plot Armor!”
Vikus : “For this reason I’ve called the other aliens at 0:58 who kills whoever wears a Plot Armor!”
- Toy Story reference
I don’t think Christopher would if anything it would be like a lone survivor coming back and warning others not to go that there’s nothing out there to protect the still growing humanity especially after his encounter with wickus.
Did you not even watch the movie? He was going to fix Wikus and then go home until he saw the dead prawn in the lab, then it changed to him wanting to come back and rescue his people on earth and turn Wikus back in the process. Wikus CHOSE to stay behind to hold the mercs back so Christopher and his son could escape, and Christopher promised to come back in 3 years. 1 1/2 years to the home world, and 1 1/2 years for the return trip to earth.
Man the actor who played Coobas was so underrated, he did a great job making you utterly hate him and its a shame he really hasnt appeared in much outside of this film.
The fact the aliens (Prawns) were starving themselves to death and already many had die instead of invading this new planet they landed showed they didnt come in harm or to even invade. It showed there character as a specie.
Saw this movie years ago
And the image of him making the flower at the end has haunted me ever since
can't wait for district 10!!
Wikus was genuily a good man with a kind heart, he didn't do anything wrong to deserve that kind of fate.
That one unforeseen error that changed his life forever, luckily hasn't erased his humanity as he is still there inside, just in a different outer shell.
My parents rented this movie when it came out and I was 10 years old. They thought it was very stupid and turned it off. I still haven’t watched it fully yet and I’m going to tomorrow. The acting in this looks so natural, I’ve never seen something like
Did u ever watch thr while thing yet??? What did u think?!
How did Blomkamp create this perfection and then go on to produce utter tripe like Chappie and Elysium?
This still gives me chills
Bro is definitely invited to every prawns cookout 😭
I had to watch this for film studies this week. Today I got overwhelmed at school so I couldn’t watch the rest of it. Thank you 👍
The humans don't know the prawns will come back with a vengeance
Funny how the bag guy says everyone wants a piece of you and are gonna cut you up then moments later he gets ripped to pieces by the prawns for food lol.
It's called "Foreshadowing" my guy
@@JPogi690 thanks, I would of never had known if you hadn't come along. Oh wait, I did, so thanks for nothing.
Yes we have eyes and we can see the scene, thanks
@@jon2067 and what about the people for whom it wasn't so obvious? Thank Odin's omniscient hairy balls you came along and showed everyone the way.
