      One thing for sure about this race is we have seen what Ben O'Connor's ceiling is. If there was any question if could be be a legit GC contender, well we've seen it, as he's been giving it all he's got. Tomorrow certainly is the day of days for Ben. Thanks Chris, the strategy of VLB to ride for WVA up the final climb to try and tire out Groves was reasonable but it was not a steep enough climb to blow the legs of Groves who went over the top along with his whole train and then it was a certainty of being a field sprint.
    By 'wasting' the energy of the team supporting WVA by pacing the whole peloton up the long climb (including a turn by Kuss) it seems that VLB have all but ruled out any attempt by the team and Kuss to try hard on tomorrow's hard mountain stage.
    Nope IMO Ben cannot hold on to the Red tomorrow

      Visma was never trying to drop Kaden on the final climb. They were only trying to go fast enough to bring the break back and hope to make it a field sprint. Visma is not afraid of the head to head battle of Kaden versus Wout and would (I bet) like to have Kaden there after the climb so that his team would help control the peloton into the sprint. 🤔🦋💪👊

    Hi I found this channel during Tour de France and it’s helping me to understand cycling but I don’t understand many things still… Can I get some insight / explanation on how come certain teams are able to have the breakaway on a close leash and other teams allow the breakaway to win the stage with such huge time gap

      It all depends on what threat is in the break.

    • @ChrisHornerCycling
      @ChrisHornerCycling  4 місяці тому +3

      Yes. I assume you’re talking about Ag2R and possibly the comparison to Visma today. If so, here you go.
      Ag2R: Care only about protecting the red leaders jersey. They would only chase the break if a rider in the break is high on GC (general classification) and a threat to take the GC lead from Ben O’Connor. Which was not the case today as no one the break was close in time to Ben’s lead.
      Visma: Today saw an opportunity at a chance to win today’s stage so they worked all day long to bring the break back and give Wout (their Sprinter) a chance to win another stage (he has three already).
      🤔👊🦋

    The classification of some of the climbs in the Vuelta is baffling. The last climb on Stage 13, which completely blew up the GC was classified as Cat 1, which seemed appropriate considering it was a double digit gradient for 5 km. But then, we find that the second (and main) climb on Stage 14 on which almost no one - including the sprinters - got dropped is also a Cat 1 despite not having any gradient more than 5%.

    I'm hoping Enric Mas can return to the form he had a couple days ago to keep things interesting. He doesn't seem to have great team support and he would need at least 30-45 sec on Roglic in Madrid to have a chance at beating him in the GC. Roglic wins if he can keep the rubber side down and doesn't blow up :-)

    On the thumbnail (in the circle) isn't Roglic - this guy doesn't have the Slovenian stripes. Just saying 😊

    It would been a long Vuelta for V-LAB if it's not because of WVA. Their GC leader consistently loose time since the start of the Vuelta. Their second GC backup was even worse, now he is sitting 1 hrs behind. Not even top 10 were reachable for him. If they still have Roglic, even if he is fragile and prone to crash, but the guy always "deliver." Roglic was their winning machine. Looks like GC Kuss is on his way to join Tao, Jai, as a one off GT winner who hasn't been able to repeat their success or reaching podium place. GC Kuss has never performed well when he was a leader. In the early season race, he was given a leadership position, he didn't deliver either.
    Also, Cian investement hasn't paid any divident yet after this high controversial transfer. From his comment about numb leg, I wonder if he has illiac arteri issue. That's gonna side line him. V-LAB jackpot was Jorgenson. I wonder if either Cian has some medical issue (leg numb), or V-LAB training doesn't suit him, or he has reached his ceiling. Btw Chapeau Kaden, to pip WVA.
